inspiring. They pay attention to their ever changing business climate, adapting as needed—which is exactly what it takes to run a successful business. It is a blessing to work in a community full of support, activity and excitement! … And fashion, of course. Lincoln Center is full of fashion. Speaking of fashion, I recently read a magazine where the editor listed 20 of her top favorite things, which encouraged me to make a list of my own. It’s filled with things like reading a great book while overlooking Lake Tahoe, a delicious thin crust pizza, waterskiing on Lake Shasta, watching my dogs run off-leash, and the feeling of wearing a brand new outfit. (Most women can relate to the last one!)

There’s just something about dressing your best that makes you feel ready to take on the day! Fashion is more than what you wear. It’s about the feeling you have when you’re wearing it. With a new season quickly approaching, imagine my excitement for fall fashion. Walk through Lincoln Center—there are mannequins dressed in tank tops and sundresses being replaced with sweaters, scarves and boots. I’m already assessing my current wardrobe to see what new fall items I just can’t live without. Read about the 2013 fall fashion trends on page 16. You can see these trends in person at our 3rd Annual Caring for Me event on September 26th. Lincoln Center has partnered with St. Joseph’s Medical Center for an evening of wine tasting, special shopping hours and discounts, health information and a fashion show featuring fall clothing from our shops. Read more about the event on page 12. Hope to see you at Caring for Me. Happy Fall Shopping!

t takes much more than a degree to make an impact in people’s lives. Though Dr. Edward Graham not only owns his own private dental practice but also holds several positions on prestigious dental boards and societies, it’s something else that makes him such a great dentist. What truly sets him apart is his passion for people, his commitment to his patients’ comfort, and his dedication to his family. His care and concern for his patients is obvious to any who know him. “I just love interacting with people,” Dr. Graham said. “I grew up on a farm, and after driving a tractor every day in 100 degree weather in a cloud of dust, I wanted to be somewhere working with people— talking to people instead of an engine.” This desire to help others led him to dentistry. After graduating from University of the Pacific in 1978 he attended Pacific School of Dentistry and earned his DDS degree in 1981. Just a few months after graduating from dentistry school Dr. Graham started his private practice in Lincoln Center and has been here ever since. Dr. Graham makes sure his office is comfortable and modern. One of the most fascinating aspects he offers is the Clinically Advanced Education System, or CAESY. “CAESY does a great job of detailing information for patients and provides visuals,” Dr. Graham said. CAESY has countless programs, for anything and everything about which a patient might need information in a dentist’s office. Patients simply watch the video that goes along with their service. “It can tell you about anything from the importance of fluoride rinsing for young kids to giving post-operation instructions for patients after surgery.” Giving back to the community is extremely important to Dr. Graham. He was a part-time instructor to University of the Pacific dental students from 1982 to 1984 and has served on numerous dental committees and boards in San Joaquin County.
Dr. Edward Graham
He runs a successful and modern practice and gives back to the community, yet Dr. Graham’s biggest priority is his family. He calls his six years of marriage with his wife Sali “wonderful”, and loves spending time with his three kids—his stepson Christopher and his two kids Thomas and Theodora. n

Thank you to our sponsors!
Last month wrapped up the 2013 LIVE! season, and what a wonderful season it was! We would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to our sponsors, Berberian European Motors, Big Valley Ford Lincoln, Mataga of Stockton and St. Joseph’s Medical Center. It is because of these local businesses that we are able to offer the community these wonderful events! The June YMCA Wine Stroll was a blast, with over 20 local wineries participating. The event raised almost $4,000 for the YMCA of San Joaquin County. The funds are being put towards programs in our community. The July Family Bike Night LIVE! offered all kinds of family fun. Attendees rode their bikes to the event and enjoyed free rides on the Jumbo Slide, face painting and a party hopper. Congrats to the three winners of brand new bicycles from Performance Bikes! The Classic Car Show in August took attendees back in time with classic cars, a military tribute and live music. The event featured over 200 classic cars and raised $3,000 for student scholarships. Thank you to the community for coming out to celebrate summer with us!

Brand New: Lincoln Center Blog L
incoln Center has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, whether I was a toddler modeling for Stage Two, with my family taking pictures with Santa, shopping for back to school clothes in Campbell’s, or in high school buying Podesto’s sandwiches on our off-campus lunch breaks. I was born and raised in the Stockton community, and after graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 2010 I decided to venture off to the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Becoming a teacher had always been my goal in life but after interning for Lincoln Center-based company SASS! Public Relations, Inc., I found a new love for the high paced field of public relations and event planning. After my freshman year I switched my major to Communications with a minor in Italian.

During my junior year, I had the amazing experience of studying in Florence, Italy—an experience that brought me new passions for travel, culture, and blogging! I kept my family and friends back home up to date with most of my travels by sharing them in my personal travel blog. Creating a blog opened so many new ideas and opportunities to advance myself in the social media world. Returning back home this summer was a flood of emotions and reverse culture shock! My mind was so full of new things and my body so full of Italian food, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Then I decided the best thing to do would be to give some of my newfound knowledge back to our community by sharing my passion for blogging. So, this next year I will be writing a Lincoln Center blog that will highlight the greatness in our community. I am excited to share my passions of fashion, health and fitness, and food while showing everything Lincoln Center has to offer the Stockton community! n

ym with a Y Organic Spa and Waxing Studio is known for its incredible spa services, including massages, facials, and skincare. Now, this award-winning spa has added a new service to its already impressive lineup—pedicures. But not ordinary pedicures. Kym Thompson, owner of Kym with a Y, is satisfied with nothing less than the best out there. With dim lighting and soothing music creating a tranquil, quiet ambience, these are more spa treatments than regular pedicures. As Kym describes them, they’re “the way of the future.”

“We’re one of the first places in Stockton to start doing them,” she said, “but this is what’s big in the Bay Area right now.” A great atmosphere and a quiet setting aren’t all that sets these pedicures apart, though. Just as she does for massages and facials, Kym uses Eminence Organics Skincare, ensuring that the products will be safe, natural, and organic. She also uses SpaRitual nail products. SpaRitual is the first spa treatment line to offer nail polish free of what’s called the “toxic trio”—three nasty chemicals present in many brands of nail polish. These chemicals have been found to trigger asthma attacks, cause dizziness, or even contribute to cancer risk. Even the lotions and scrubs used are out of the norm. Eminence supplies an incredible range of products, which allows Kym to offer interesting “flavors”, like the Tuscan Wine Therapy Pedicure, which incorporates a grape seed crush scrub and a Mediterranean wine and honey masque. The Chocolate Refresher Pedi is another notable option customers would have a hard time finding anywhere else, with chocolate cherry foot scrub and chocolate cake massage crème. “We love it when people get those,” said Kym. “Chocolate aromas just fill the whole place.” In case the unique pedicures offered now aren’t enough, Kym hopes to offer seasonal pedicures as well. “Maybe at Christmastime I’ll do something warm, like cranberry,” she said. “Or maybe in the spring something light.” Quality products, cleanliness, and a peaceful atmosphere make pedicures great, but Kym’s passion for spa treatments and her love of making her customers happy makes them amazing. “I love new, wonderful treatments,” Kym said. “I just love it when people leave feeling really good.” n

What are the fall footwear trends? Dennis Shea Shoes DennisShea
A:
Women’s: “Men’s inspired, everything from penny loafers to wingtips. There will be a slowdown on wedges, and more pointed toe pumps and probably some stilettos. Definitely lots of booties for fall—short shafted and open toe. We’ll also see lots of plays on the booty look, and boots will stay popular. Prints will be popular—leopard and snake and even pastels for fall, which is kind of unusual. Studs for texture. Sperry top-siders will still be very popular.” Men’s: “Classics are in, especially wing-tips, and some that can even be worn with jeans. Lots of desert boots, also known as chukka boots. Sperry top-siders will be very popular for men as well. Lots of classics that were popular are coming back into style.”
Q:
What’s your favorite fall trend? Draper’s and Damon’s LindaHalligan
A:

“Our favorite fall trend, though it is hard to pick just one, would be our new Boucle. Charming, colorful and cozy, our new Boucle jackets shine a light on trendsetting style. Decorative details such as metallic threading and gold chain accents bring this fall favorite to the forefront once again.”

have never looked soGREEN
here’s a hidden gem right here in Lincoln Center for premium and brand name denim that’s both ecological and economical. Whether you’ve outgrown your favorite jeans or want to score a fabulous new pair for a great price, the “eco” denim section located in REVO Casual Apparel (near ShoMi) is a win-win for everyone. The idea started as an added service for REVO’s customers to have an ecological and progressive way to part with their previously loved denim (denim they no longer wear or that no longer fits) for store credit (a REVO gift card) that can be used any time throughout the store. The denim is prepped and placed for sale in REVO’s “eco” section, which has quickly become one of their most popular attractions according to Cathy Macalutas-Fernandes, who owns the store. Many check back frequently to see what arrives, or follow REVO’s “ecoPATROL” board on their Pinterest page that showcases all incoming brands and sizes as they hit the floor.

Brands like True Religion, Hudson, Miss Me, Citizens of Humanity, Joe’s and 7 For All Mankind are just some of what you’ll find. On average, their “eco” denim retails from $22 – $60 so you can see why it’s a hidden gem, indeed. A full list of brands they carry can be found on their website along with details for anyone interested in selling their denim. Just go to RevoCasual.com. n

New Location. A
New Look.
s Carats knows, change can be good—really good. They’ve moved just a short way down from their old store location to the Atrium (near Bud’s Seafood Grille), and are finding the new store a perfect fit.
“We fit in well with the other businesses down here,” said Patricia Lee, who owns Carats along with her husband, Curtis Chong. “We’re very happy with the move.” But the location isn’t the only thing new about the store. “We’ve changed the mix of jewelry we offer,” said Patricia. “It’s more trendy, more fashion forward.” “A little more edgy,” Curtis added.

Countless necklaces and bracelets create a dazzling array of colors, amidst displays of fun, brightly colored sunglasses and sparkling rings. And of course, the vibrant Pandora charms lie waiting for that lucky someone to take a look.
An exciting new mix of jewelry awaits in Carats’ new location. Whether it’s fashion-forward accessories, a chic gift, or an elegant Pandora charm bracelet, Carats won’t disappoint. n

With fall fashion around the corner, stylish accessories are a must. From classics to statement pieces, Carats has that perfect accent to make a great outfit spectacular. “There’s really something for everyone,” Patricia said. “Lots of great gifts, too.” “And all very affordable,” Curtis said.
Pandora, a Denmark-based jewelry company, makes beautiful charm bracelets and offers over 600 different charms to choose from. All these charms can form hundreds of different combinations, making lovely, unique bracelets. Carats is proud to be the only carrier of Pandora jewelry in Stockton. “Pandora is very popular here,” Patricia said. “Probably our best seller.” Though sales and discounts from Pandora are rare, customers who spend over $100 in Pandora at Carats from September 19th through the 21st receive a Pandora bracelet free. From there, they can begin building their bracelet by choosing each charm individually.

We asked our cover girls,
“I’ve always loved fashion! I started working in the retail industry at the age of 16, obtained my degree in Fashion Merchandising, and continued to gain experience as a manager, buyer and visual merchandiser. Owning my own store seems like I’ve come full circle! It has allowed me to meet and work with some of the most amazing people, donate and get involved with local charities, and continue to buy and sell clothing and accessories at a variety of price points.”
“What motivated you to open your own clothing boutique and what do you like most about it?” “Opening a clothing boutique has always been a dream of mine. It was always my answer to those questions where do you see yourself in 5 years…10 years. I have been working in retail since I was 17 and also majored in Apparel Marketing and Design at Sacramento State University. Fashion and retail is just in my blood. It’s something that is just part of my life. The thing I love most about owning my own boutique is that everyday is different. Your customer’s interactions on a day-to-day basis are always different. You really get to meet so many great people. The fashion and trends are always changing too so its fun to get excited about the new color or trend of the season.”

“Since growing up in a family business, we know exactly what being your own boss entails (a lot of hard work, dedication and passion), so when the opportunity arose, we couldn’t pass it up. We love the interaction with customers and friends on a daily basis and love buying for all types of styles and ages. It’s really fun to buy for not only women like ourselves, but men, teens and kids too!” Shaina’s clothing, accessories and shoes are from Zuesters.
