2019 NATIONAL GOLD MEDALLION CEREMONY MARCH 20, 2020

Team Lincoln,

I

t was great to see everyone at our Regional Award Ceremonies, I appreciated the opportunity to be there to recognize the work you all put in as a team in what was one of our most challenging years at Lincoln Military Housing. There is a story about Abraham Lincoln that I shared with some of you, he was walking with his son’s Nurse, Nurse Pomroy, and as she was sharing her passion for caring for the soldiers, they came across a flooded area, as Lincoln helped her across, he said: Put your feet in the right place and stand firm. Then he repeated it to her, adding, “In Life, Nurse Pomroy, Put your feet in the right place and stand firm!” Just as Lincoln and Nurse Pomroy, we need to Stand Firm, then help those who come behind so they do not fall. We are all connected, a bad experience in San Diego can impact occupancy in Hampton Roads, with news traveling at the speed of FB, in the same way, a great experience at Quantico has the power to lift all of LMH. Our collective role is to recognize

Philip Rizzo

that while we have made great strides, we now have a responsibility, because we are here, to continue to shore up our foundation for those who will join us as we continue to grow. For the first time, the National Gold Medallion Awards have been established to recognize, at a National Level, the ones who have found solid ground on which to stand, those who are showing all of us where to step by their example. You do Belong Here, you have found yourself in the right place and, together, we will do what is needed to ensure you can stand firm. Thank You Again, Christy and I are both immensely proud to be part of such a dedicated group of professionals who are striving passionately each day to deliver on our mission! “Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.” - Abraham Lincoln

As a Nation, we have military members deployed in harms way all over the world. If it weren’t for the selfless sacrifice that our military members and their families make each and every day, we wouldn’t enjoy the freedoms we have. Our mission is defined to support them in doing theirs, with every mission beginning at home. At Lincoln Military Housing, we are blessed to have many of our veterans and spouses as part of our team. Thank you for all you have done, all you do, and the sacrifices you have made. We are proud to have you as part of our Lincoln family.

THE HISTORY OF THE GOLD MEDALLION

I

n 1974, the first Gold Medallion Awards Ceremony was held in Dallas, Texas.

The emblem of the Willow Tree was chosen to symbolize the swift growth and strength of Lincoln Property Company. Although many years have passed since, the Willow Tree continues to symbolize the growth and strength of not just LPC, but more importantly the individuals that make up our leadership. The Willow Tree now takes on another role as it signifies not only

traditional strength and growth but also qualities that can be found in our executive leaders, the people that have established Lincoln Property Company. Lincoln Military Housing hosted its 1st Gold Medallion in 2002 after starting as a company on August 1, 2001. In 2020, LMH created the National Gold Medallion awards ceremony where winners from each region will come together as nominees and a National winner will be awarded in each category.

SAM MERRICK

S

am originally began his career with Lincoln in 1973 and is likely one of the last active employees that attended the first ever Gold Medallion Award ceremony in 1974. He rejoined Lincoln in 2000 and, as I shared in January, he was the first employee of Lincoln Military Housing. With so much history with Lincoln Property Company and LMH, it is fitting that he will kick-off our first-ever Lincoln Military Housing National Gold Medallion award ceremony next month.
