Creating The Perfect

Garden
‘Bringing the outside in’ has become a rather over-used phrase amongst interior designers and enthusiasts for several years. It was probably Grand Designs that inspired the trend. Wall to wall bi-fold doors and continuous flooring have enabled us to merge our interior living space with our outdoor space to create a wonderful harmonious flow. In this issue, Your Lifestyle Magazine’s Interiors Expert, Victoria Stanton, turns the cliché on its head as we bring the inside out!
Indoor/Outdoor fabrics from Calypso Collection by Thibaut, www.thibautdesign.com I wonder if you’ve noticed the growing trend for creating an interior feel to gardens these days! A decade ago, it was virtually impossible to find garden sofas, outdoor rugs, double day beds, cushions and firepits but now these things are becoming commonplace. It may be a over a decade since Ground Force was aired, but Alan and Tommy’s gazebos may have inspired us to create outdoor rooms. Our summers in the UK maybe short and unpredictable, but we certainly seem determined to make the most of them. Everyone enjoys a moment of quality time in the garden, starting your morning outside with a coffee, inviting friends over for a casual dinner, or enjoying a sunny lunch, so we thought it would be a good time to share a few tips for how to create the perfect back garden get away.

<RXU Home +RPH Your In exactly the same way as you would plan a room in your home, start by thinking about how you would like to use the space and what will make the space feel most comfortable for you. For some, that means a screen for privacy. Maybe it means adding a shade to protect you from the hot summer sun. Pergolas give outdoor spaces the perfect amount of shade and add architectural detail to a garden. Add vines and other climbing plants to the structure for a little privacy and even more shade. Alternatively, with out constructing anything permanent, a little outdoor oasis can still be defined by created by bordering the area with a collection of planters. It is nice to have something you can walk ‘in’ to in the same way as you would enter a room through a door, so giving the area a proper entrance will make it feel separate from the rest of the garden. Using elements of nature in your outdoor space will give it life. Whether you love flowers or prefer low maintenance plants, use them! It keeps a space fresh and happy. A water feature nearby would be lovely too. It’s all about the appealing to the senses.
The next thing to consider is a floor plan. Arrange benches, chairs or outdoor furniture in a way that encourages interaction, ideally around a central coffee table. When I am designing a layout for an indoor sitting room, I always use an area rug to identify the seating area and create cohesion between the items of furniture. In your outdoor room, an outdoor rug will work in exactly the same way, as well as adding a layer of colour and comfort to the space. Well-designed indoor rooms typically build off one element, a sofa or piece of artwork, which gives the eye something to land on; the rest of the furnishings and accents support that piece. That same principle applies to outdoor living spaces. Try to find a piece of furniture or an accessory that will work as a focal point and build the room around it. Also take a moment to consider what sort of style appeals to you most. Are you looking for something cool and contemporary, exotic and enticing or a cosy vintage style. There is so much choice available, we can be really creative. Bear your theme in mind when you are choosing lighting, heating and accessories.
We aim to give you a feeling of everlasting warmth in your home 43 Bridgnorth Road, Compton, Wolverhampton WV6 8AF

Moroccan Pillar Lantern, boutiquecamping.com
Aged Garden Lanterns, from £18, www.miafleur. com In the height of summer, you may find yourself wanting to save your patio time for the evenings when you can avoid the heat. Lighting will transform your space in the later hours of the day. Whether that means candles, lanterns, or string lights, be sure to add a little light to your space for those perfect summer nights. There’s a real trend for string lights right now – I love the vintage style ones with large globe bulbs. These would work with any style of garden and will create a really magical atmosphere. (I’ve just purchased a set for myself and I can’t wait to hang them around our gazebo). If you don’t have a structure to hang lights on, the smaller outdoor fairy lights look great nestled in shrubs or strung around your planted tubs. When choosing a set, I would suggest going for a warm light - I think the cool white or coloured LED strings of lights are only suitable for very contemporary areas. If you don’t have a source of electricity, then solar equivalents are available, or consider hurricane lamps or Moroccan lanterns, as candles will create a lovely dancing light. Tealights in jam jars will have a lovely homespun vintage look and if they are scented too, this will create a lovely atmosphere.

Your Home Don’t forget colour. Farrow and Ball’s website is full of inspiration for using colour in your outdoor oasis. There’s no need to stick to safe neutrals and dusty greens, a dash of magenta or sunny yellow would look beautiful against your foliage, especially on a dull day. You may have noticed that chalk paint is everywhere right now - this can be used outside too to revamp old garden furniture. It’s great stuff as it doesn’t need much preparation and you can get straight to the fun bit! Perfect for impatient people like me! Once you have the bug for painting up furniture and accessories, you’ll be amazed where it takes you. Car boot sales and sites like Ebay are full of vintage wooden sofas and chairs, which normally sell for next to nothing. A lick of paint and some new cushion pads will get you an amazing and unique focal point for you outdoor space. And this brings me on to my favourite bit – fabrics! Unless you are going to diligently bring your seat pads and cushions inside every time you go inside yourself, you should use outdoor fabrics for these. They are not meant to be left out 24/7, but an outdoor fabric will have been specially developed to be light-fast, water repellent (note, not waterproof ), stain and mildew resistant. Of course, it’s the final layer of small personal touches you add to a space that make it special. Cushions, blankets on the bench and an outdoor rug will add colour, texture and a feeling of warmth and cosiness. Colourful planting in nontraditional planters, like watering cans or even teapots will add individuality and quirkiness. A decadent candelabra and an outdoor mirror will make the space feel just as homely as your interior. Garden getaway complete, canapés and a cool mojito are now all you need!

The Great British Deckchair
Deckchairs are an iconic image of the British Summertime, many of us will remember struggling to fold the frames down on a windy beach. They have a fascinating history, did you know that similar folding X-frame chairs were used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans? There is even evidence of folding chairs being used in Northern Europe in the Bronze Age. In 1886 John Thomas Moore took registed the patent for adjustable folding chairs and manufactured them in Macclesfield. His ‘Waverley’ chair was recommended for lawn tennis or for use on board passenger ships. His other model, the ‘Hygenic’, was a rocking deckchair, recommended for those with sluggish bowels! Who’d have thought it!
Art Print Deckchair Ultraviolet Jellyfish, by Smart Deco, £95, www.notonthehighstreet.com
Folding deckchairs became popular during the golden age of the ocean liner in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. From the early 20th Century deckchairs were hired out on an hourly or daily basis in British seaside resorts. They were also often used in large public parks and for spectators at cricket matches. Sadly, the availability of lighter, more portable plastic and tubular metal framed garden furniture saw the demise of the wooden deckchair. In the early 2000’s Blackpool tourist office was keen to phase them out as they were seen as old-fashioned – synonymous of the knotted hankerchief wearing holiday makers of the 1950’s and 60’s.
Southsea Edwardian Deckchair with Stool, £252, www.deckchairs.co.uk This vintage style sun lounger is modelled on the deckchair made popular in Edwardian times. Supremely comfortable and practical, it comes complete with matching detachable footstool and fringed sun shade. Southsea deckchairs are available in a great range of stripes and plains. Southsea Deckchairs are now the number one deckchair producer in the UK, founded by Steven Davies, who developed a passion for deckchairs whilst working as a deckchair attendant in the early 80’s.
Now, it seems that the trend for all things vintage has won us over and the classic British deckchair is back. Stylish, retro, re-invented and quirky. Here are Your Lifestyle Magazine’s top ten. Art Print Deckchairs by Smart Deco are part contemporary art, part must-have piece of outdoor furniture. This striking abstract design has a stylish, contemporary look. A simple design classic but with a modern twist.

Projects from PAINT IT by Peta Green of Paint It Staged Kitchen Makeover The Brief Paint it were asked to advise on a Kitchen makeover. The Kitchen was well over 25 years old, and needed a complete refresh to bring it up to date, and much needed light into the room. The kitchen layout was going to change with addition of further fitted cupboards purchased from IKEA. The worktops, cooker hood, wall and floor tiles had to be changed, which had to be considered when putting together the project.
AFTER If you would like speak to Peta about your painting requirements contact her on 01952 670805 to arrange a FREE of CHARGE home consultation or visit www.paintitfurniture.com
BEFORE The Solution A 2nd visit a few months later was made by Peta with colour swatches and painted samples in hand and a new eye. Stage 1: new additional Shaker Style cupboards, and floor and wall tiles had been fitted. Stage 2: The existing cupboards had to be painted, Pale Ivory which was the match for the scheme. Using their 7 coat paint system Paint It removed all doors and drawer fronts and taken back to their workshop in Lilleshall to carry out the work. Returning 3 weeks later to paint the fixed joinery, carcase frames and kickboard etc. Stage 3: The doors and drawer fronts refitted compete with new handles which transformed the kitchen, matching the newly fitted cupboards perfectly. The result, a total transformation, a very happy customer, within budget and a fraction of the cost of a total refit. Job Done!!

something that deviates from the norm and will give your home a quirky edge a potential option available to view in our showroom is the Notary wall light by DAR.
THE IMPORTANCE OF OUTDOOR LIGHTING When choosing outdoor lights it is important that they are made from highly durable materials able to withstand varying weather conditions for long periods of time. It is also advisable that any lights you fit on your home’s exterior are IP Rated. IP ratings guarantee that your light fitting is sealed well enough to protect against water, heat, or any other weather damages. Investing in high quality outdoor lighting will not only improve your homes visual appeal, it will also give you added peace of mind in knowing that your home is secure. Many of the outdoor fittings we sell come with fitted motion (PIR) sensors. These sensors are available in all manner of outdoor fittings and can act as an effective way of deterring intruders.
The next thing to think about when it comes to outdoor lighting is post lights. These are ideal to have in a garden or driveway as they give off great light while making a statement. Like the wall and ceiling lights you can commonly find these in a traditional lantern style. However many lighting suppliers have begun to experiment, creating a number of interesting fittings. Searchlight lighting in particular have a wide selection of futuristic style post lights. Many of these come equipped with built in LED’s which give you long lasting excellent quality light. Lastly, to give your home’s exterior extra illumination you might want to invest in decking and spotlights. These lights tend to be more understated in design; however their portability gives you room to really make your garden and driveway stand out. Place them around dinning or shrubbery areas so that once the sun sets your gardens best features will be lit to perfection.
STYLE A good place to begin when it comes to choosing outdoor light fittings is with your wall and ceiling lights. These can adorn the interior and exterior of porches, garages, and outdoor seating areas. The classic look for outdoor wall and ceiling fittings tends to be the Victorian style ‘lantern’ design. These are available in a number of finish options, from a basic black to matte creams and rustic bronzes. If you’d like to keep with tradition and choose the lantern style but with a modern twist, Oaks Lightings collection of pendants, ideal for porches and patio areas, might be for you. Fusing together tradition and modernity. If you’d like to go for

Over 35,000 feet of choice Comfortably nestled behind ASDA on New road in Kidderminster, Carters Furniture Store will breeze into this summer proudly celebrating its 40th anniversary. Opened in 1975, by John and June Carter on Comberton Hill, it quickly became apparent that the appetite for quality affordable furniture in and around the area greatly surpassed their initial expectations and it wasn’t long before the decision was made to search for much larger premises.
able to supply bespoke and made to measure furniture, the choice available is truly staggering and definitely one of the reasons the business has continued to be a success over such a long period of time. Another reason would be the ethos instilled in the staff by John and June, whereby they are encouraged to promote a comfortable and friendly shopping experience where you won’t be hassled, pushed or forced into a sale. Instead, you will find yourself able to peruse the shop at your convenience with knowledgeable and experienced sales assistants on hand to aid your decisions and alleviate your dilemmas.
The business was relocated to its current canal side location in 1982, but due to overwhelming demand this still wasn’t enough space to cope and in 1988 the beds were separated from the furniture and displayed in a brand new showroom just around the corner on New Road.
Where to next? Never standing still, Carters will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with the launch of a brand new Ecommerce website. Showcasing as much of their furniture as possible whilst making it all available to purchase 24/7 from the discomfort of your current sofa!
The remainder of the company specialising in Sofas and Suites , Dining sets , Bedroom Furniture and giftware continued to grow in size throughout the 90’s and into the new millennium, resulting in renovations to the building and effectively doubling the warehouse capacity , extending the showroom and stock areas as well as updating the interior of the store, to maintain a grasp on the latest fashions and trends.
The new age of the internet and social media have seen the Carters brand splashed far and wide, resulting in the customer base expanding further and further from its origin in Kidderminster , spreading throughout the UK. Recently customers have come from as far afield as Wales, Devon and Liverpool to buy from the store.
It will come as no surprise to hear that after the continual extensions and expansions the combined coverage of showroom floor between the two stores is now well over 35,000 sq Feet !! With plans to make it even bigger in the future!
In the past 40 years a lot has changed, competitors have come and gone, recessions have waxed and waned, styles have been forgotten and returned, but the core belief at Carters has always remained the same. We will offer you a huge choice of great quality furniture and with our Price Promise , WE WILL NOT BE BEATEN ON ANY LIKE FOR LIKE QUOTE !! Come in to celebrate our 40th anniversary with us, and see for yourself why the counties largest independent furniture store is also one of the longest established family run businesses in the area.
Where does the success come from? Big name brands have always been associated with Carters, from GPLAN to SHERBOURNE, Willis & Gambier to ALSTONS, LAZYBOY to SUTCLIFFE, dealing with some of the best suppliers of furniture in the world will always mean Carters is at the forefront of quality and design, but that isn’t all, as we maintain close relationships with many smaller local manufacturers, who are

Mouth-watering Marinades It’s time to abandon burgers and bangers as Your lifestyle Magazine’s food fanatic, Scott Ford inspires us with marinade ideas from around the world. It’s official. Barbeque season has arrived. There’s nothing quite like the smell of meats grilling over hot charcoal – and ladies, this may be the only time of year when the man of the house is enthused about cooking dinner – so we should make the most of it. Rather than the barbeque staples of sausages and burgers, let’s consider something a little more adventurous. Aromatic, spicy, sticky marinades can transform a barbeque from mundane to mouth-watering. The spices and aromatics will enhance the flavour, the oil content will help prevent your food sticking to the grill and the acid content will tenderise the meat. Here is a selection of my favourite barbeque marinade recipes from around the world. Lip-tingling Jamaican Jerk Chicken, aromatic Greek Lamb Souvlaki, sweet and sticky Japanese Teriyaki Salmon and Mediterranean marinated vegetable skewers.
Ingredients • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Jamaican Jerk Chicken
1 medium free-range chicken, spatchcocked 6 spring onions 1 small onion 2 large garlic cloves 2” piece of ginger, finely chopped 2 scotch bonnet chillies, deseeded Freshly squeezed juice of one lime 3 tablespoons of Demerara sugar 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil 2 tablespoons of soy sauce 1 teaspoons of dried thyme 1 tablespoon of allspice ½ teaspoon of salt – or more to taste
Method
If you’ve never tried Jerk Chicken, now’s the time. It’s traditionally served with the classic Jamaican rice and peas (which are actually beans), but for a summer barbeque, grilled pineapple is a wonderful juicy side to compliment the spicy meat. One word of caution though, please be careful when preparing the scotch bonnet peppers. I recommend cutting the chilli with a knife and fork, to avoid the sting on your skin. Some people even wear latex gloves! Regular chillies would work equally well in the recipe, but the Scotch Bonnet will really give this marinade a true Jamaican flavour. Turn up the Bob Marley and enjoy!
Blitz all the ingredients in a food processor and blend to a thick(ish) paste. It’s a good idea to taste at this point. It will be salty, you can add a little more sugar for balance if necessary, and another scotch bonnet chilli, if you’d prefer a little more kick. Slash the skin of the chicken to allow the flavour to penetrate the meat and rub the mixture all over. Leave to marinade in a ziplock bag in the fridge, or a covered non-reactive bowl for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Cook on the barbeque until the juices run clear. Adding woodchips to the coals will really help you achieve an authentic, smoky taste.

Lamb Souvlaki
Method
I love Greek food and this is one of my favourite dishes. This marinade is simple, but the flavours are so vibrant. A must try. Within seconds of smelling this sizzling on the hot coals, you’ll feel like you have been transported to a whitewashed Greek island.
Mix all the marinade ingredients together (not the salt) in a large bowl and add the lamb. Make sure that all the pieces of lamb are well coated, cover and marinate in the fridge for 2-4 hours. Push the pieces of lamb onto metal skewers and season well with the salt on both sides before transferring onto the hot barbeque grill. Cook to your liking. I normally serve this with juicy tomatoes, chopped flat leaf parsley, sliced red onion, wholemeal pittas and yoghurt mixed with chopped mint and grated cucumber.
Ingredients • • • • • • • •
2kg cubed lamb shoulder or leg, visible fat removed as well as possible 150ml olive oil 150ml red wine 3 garlic cloves zest and juice of 2 lemon 3 teaspoons of oregano A few good grinds of black pepper Salt – but don’t add it to the marinade
Teriyake Salmon This really is a lovely recipe, the sweet sticky marinade totally transforms a simple fillet of salmon. The flavour is complemented really well by Japanese style ribbons of cucumber,

Your Food & Drink marinated in a tablespoon of rice wine vinegar, a tablespoon of soy sauce, a little sugar and toasted sesame seeds.
Ingredients • • • • • • •
6 chunky salmon fillets (avoid using the thin tail fillets) 1 ½ tablespoons of vegetable oil, I prefer rapeseed 6 tablespoons of soy sauce 6 tablespoons of mirin (sweet Japanese rice wine) 1 tablespoon sugar 3 garlic cloves, crushed
Mediterranean Veggie Skewers
Method
I never forget the vegetarians when I host a barbeque, but these marinated veggie skewers are so tasty, they will be a popular side dish for everyone. Courgettes, peppers, mushrooms and onions take on the herby flavour of this marinade really well. I sometimes use cubes of Quorn for protein and texture.
Mix the marinade ingredients in a large bowl and add the salmon, making sure it is well coated. Pour any surplus marinade into a pan and bring up to a simmer. This will be used as a sauce to serve over the salmon at the end. Barbequing something as delicate as salmon can be tricky, so I prefer to sit it on strong foil so there’s no risk of losing it between the griddle bars! When the salmon is cooked through pour the hot sauce over to glaze.
Ingredients • • • • • • • • • •
4 tablespoons of olive oil Juice of one lemon A large sprig of fresh basil, chopped A large sprig of flat leaf parsley, chopped 2 cloves of garlic, crushed A red, green and yellow pepper cut into large chunks – or 8 baby peppers, halved 3 courgettes, cut into chunks 10 mushrooms Sea salt to taste
Method Mix together the marinade ingredients in a bowl and add the vegetables. Leave to marinate for 1.5 hours. Cook over a high heat until the pepper skin starts to blister and the courgettes are tender. This is great served with a classic rocket and parmesan salad, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and a chunk of warm ciabatta. Happy grilling!

New Summer menus
Nowhere captures the beauty of summertime like the English countryside, with its vibrant fields of green and gold, grazing livestock, and historic farmhouses dressed in clematis vines. The Cowshed is a family-run restaurant on the outskirts of Pattingham. Set amidst the stunning South Staffordshire countryside, nestled away within the rustic courtyard of an old farmhouse, it really is Pattingham’s hidden gem.
complimented by a rich white wine and wholegrain mustard sauce; mouth-watering slow-roasted lamb shank, served with creamed mash, baby carrots and red wine and shallot gravy; and wild mushroom and spinach risotto, finished with parmesan shavings and a drizzle of truffle oil. True to tradition, favourites include premium cuts of beef, served with hand-cut chunky chips, oven-roasted vine tomatoes, crispy onion rings and a choice of rich sauces.
Summer brings with it a range of delightful new dishes. Appetisers include freshly steamed mussels infused with a delicious white wine and garlic cream sauce, served with warm and crispy ciabatta. Your Jobs
Why I Love My Job WARREN EVANS OF BASE STUDIOS – “It’s the immense variety that makes my job so enjoyable - one day I can be interviewing some of the biggest musicians in the world and the next, seeing young people’s confidence grow as they discover the power of music.”
Base Studios, is in its tenth year of being run by husband and wife team, Sarah and Warren Evans. The studios started out as a rehearsal room for Warren’s band “Life in a Tin”: a name which reflected the fact that their music sounded better once the band members had a ‘tinnie’ or two! The rehearsal facilities were made available to other bands and so the studios grew to the point whereby there is now a ‘rabbit warren’ of 14 studios in the old glove factory in Rufford Road, Stourbridge.
Fund, children from a range of schools and backgrounds can gain experience in song writing, managing performances, using sound equipment and attending video shoots. It is valuable for children to understand that careers in the music industry are not purely for performance protégés. For every recording of an artist, there will be 50 people behind the scenes who have “put them there” – Base Studios provides opportunities to explore these multiple roles. Many of the children who have experienced music via Base Studios, have been inspired to go on to further education specializing in subjects such as music technology and performance arts.
Warren states that one of the most rewarding aspects of managing Base Studios is orchestrating educational programmes. With support from the Arts Council and Lottery
52
Your Jobs Warren is well aware of the power of music to bring people together and facilitate social skills. He cited the case of one particular 16 year old boy who came to Base Studios low in mood and self-esteem. He had barely left his house in the previous 6 months. Within the rehearsal studios though, he played the drums, formed a band and performed. The young lad whose smiles had been rare, visibly grew in confidence and found a way forward.
passed the doors of Base Studios during the auditions, Warren answered that he had witnessed “true talent and no talent in equal measure!” Looking to the future, Warren is excited to be involved in the making of television programmes next year with ITV – following the journeys of people ‘trying to make it’ in the music industry. In addition, Base Studios is once again providing the music for Hag Fest on 2nd July in Hagley. With 500 musicians passing through the studios per week, it is a natural thing for Warren to be involved in producing bands to play at the local event. Hence we can look forward to hearing ‘The Regulars’, ‘From Scotland’ and ‘Hostile’ on stage in the Hagley playing fields – all rounded off by ‘The Space Hoppers’; the finale at last year’s festival whereby hundreds of people found their dancing feet as the sun went down.
The early days of Base Studios coincided with the recession. This was a significant hurdle as they were competing against big organisations for funding. However, it is testimony to their vision that out of eight bids, Base Studios were successful in six. Since then, they have gone from strength to strength. Base Studios has received a “Rock the House” award from the Houses of Parliament and last year Warren was surprised and delighted to be invited to Downing Street in recognition of his role in the community.
This is not the job that Warren, originally in the construction industry, envisaged when rehearsing with his band all those years ago – but it’s one that he feels lucky to have built his life upon.
Warren particularly enjoys the video production side of his job. He has succeeded in getting exclusive interviews with big names such as Farrell Williams, Led Zeppelin and Tom Jones (who apparently looks just the same face to face as he does on the panel of “The Voice!”) Then there is the role that Base Studios plays in hosting early auditions of Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor. Ninety thousand ‘wannabees’ have got in touch and from these, a handful of performers from the local community are likely to go through to the first rounds on television. When asked if a future star had

Royston and Nick’s Diary The summer months have brought a new chapter for Nick and Royston. After eight very happy years at Wightwick House and many, many parties, they said goodbye to their beautiful home. So now time to put their interior talents and a sprinkle of magic into a new property.
1000 turned out and the day was an incredible success. When best friend Yvette Bretnall has a party, the guys are always there in the thick of the festivities. After moving to Cheltenham, Yvette regularly is in Wolverhampton visiting her mom June Barnett, close friends and the salon for Nick`s miraculous touch! Yvette hosted her birthday bash at the finest cocktail establishment in Cheltenham Lily Gins, where there was plenty of merrymaking. The evening was a blast, with great company and loads of fun!!
The last few months has been incredibly busy with the parties. The first was` The Real Housewives of Cheshire` star Dawn Ward`s eldest daughter Taylor. Nick and Royston helped celebrate her 18th Birthday Party at a VIP event at Manchester`s Urban Cookhouse. The party was a fabulous event including family and celebrity friends, all captured on film and has featured on an episode of the show.
Always one to appreciate the fine figures of both men and women!! Nick and Royston relished in accompanying Judge Dawn Ward to the finals of Mr and Miss Manchester 2016. The glittering awards were held at Manchester`s Palace Hotel where the finalists had to wow a panel of famous judges. Gabrielle Taylor and Jeavon Stretton were crowned this year`s Miss and Mr Manchester and after congratulating the winners, the celebrations continued at the after party at the exclusive Suburbia club. Good Luck guys for the next round, Miss and Mr England 2016.
Another close friend Danielle Lloyd and her boyfriend Michael O` Neill having recently got engaged, decided to through their party at Birmingham`s latest hot spot Geisha. Nick and Royston joined a host of friends including TOWIE`s Amy Childs, Lauren Pope and model Zara Holland to revel the night away to headline act Artful Dodger. Having known Danielle for many years, it was a magical night and now they can`t wait for the wedding!!!
Born and bred Wolverhampton guys, Nick and Royston are always ready to commend and support the cities growing rejuvenation. So, they were thrilled to be asked to the opening of the new £5 million Porsche showroom. Enjoying a glass of champagne, the evening was a great chance to admire the stunning cars and catch up with friends and clients.
The same weekend, was another local extravaganza. Not regular footballer fans, Nick and Royston joined Dawn and Ashley Ward at Shrewsbury Town`s Greenhous Meadow to support a celebrity football match. Shayne Ward, Towie`s Dan Osborne, EastEnders’s Jake wood and James Hill were just a few stars who turned out in support of a great local charity for disabled and disadvantaged children. Over
We look forward to the next edition……..

Your Wedding
Bridal Headwear The length of veil you choose obviously depends on the style of your dress. Fuller skirts tend to swamp a long veil so wear a waist length veil that will accentuate your figure and show off the fullness of the skirt. Column dresses work well with long sheer veils that float down and gather in gentle folds just beyond the hem of the skirt. For a different look, team up a ballerina length fuller skirt with a shoulder length bobbed veil. This length of veil also really shows of the neck line of your dress and will frame your face nicely. The beauty of a short veil is that there is no need to remove it as the day unfolds as it will not stepped on or get tangled up on the dance floor. Pretty and low maintenance all rolled into one. As a bride you will have fallen in love with and bought your wedding dress and will be busy, finding the necessary accompanying items to complete your bridal outfit. Shoes, jewellery and floral bouquets are all important to finish your look on your big day. You obviously need to think about what to wear on your head and luckily these days the styles and choices of headwear are limitless. Brides can choose to wear veils, hair bands or even hats to enhance their dresses and complement the overall theme.
Veils can come in many types of fabric and can be sheer or lacey to suit your gown. Netting or sheer fabrics such as tulle are very light and will glide gently over your dress. They are particularly suited to a dress with an interesting or dramatic back that you want to show off as the detail will be clearly visible. These diaphanous adornments are available with the narrowest of edgings which give a very soft finish. Of course veils can be edged with a number of boarders such as lace or ribbon which are perfect when matched with the simpler style of dress as it frames the gown and adds interest and detail.
Draw a Veil Over It Veils are very much back in fashion, particularly if you’re have vintage style wedding. They are wonderfully romantic and soften the whole outfit while adding a sense of tradition. Veils come in a number of fabrics and lengths. You can choose to have a veil that covers your face or indeed more of a trail that simply falls down your back allowing your hair to be admired.
Chiffon or voile materials are still sheer but are slightly stiffer so will give a more voluminous look especially if gathered more at the fixture point. Lace is highly decorative and looks truly romantic covering the head and back but is heavier and therefore needs to be worn with hairstyle that won’t be crushed.
61
Your Wedding Turn Heads with a Headdress If you think a veil is all too fussy then there are plenty of other adornments that you can wear. A headdress of any kind not only adds style to your look but it also focuses attention on your face. Fascinators are growing in trend and can be worn on a band or comb which can be positioned exactly where you want it to suit your hairstyle; however they are usually worn on the side of the head. You can have all type of decorations such as feathers, silk flowers, beading or crystals. You can also incorporate netting or tulle to suggest a veil or attach a shoulder-length veil with a couple of layers. For a very feminine look attach a birdcage veil to a pillbox or headband. You can get small or large holed birdcage veils and they look stunning coupled with a swept-up hairdo or with shorter hairstyles.
For the best result, wear your hair off your face with the lengths tied into a back knot or a collection of curls. The band sits comfortable on your forehead or just beneath your hairline and is tied beneath the hairline at the back of the head. Work with you hairdresser to hide the fastening or make a feature of it by tying the band with bowed ribbon.
Headbands are a very ’20s and coupled with an elegant shift dress can make a real statement.

Crowning Glory If you are looking for something a little more subtle then choose decorative hair pins or a hair combs. Lots of sparkle may be too much with a very accessorized dress but if you incorporate pearls, ribbon and lace you will achieve a more delicate look. These are most suited to more elaborate hairstyles with the pins placed amongst curls or pleats to add classic style. For a very sophisticated look choose a French Pleat hairstyle with a satin and pearl beaded comb tucked in.

And of course there is the tiara. If you want to feel like a princess for the day then this is surely the route to take. Avoid too much ‘bling’ and choose crystal, pearls and beads on a band or comb that will sit just comfortable on your head. Loosely fold and pin your hair around the tiara so that the wire work is hidden with all the sparkle on show.

Your Rising Stars
Rising Star - Nick Forrester Nick Forrester tells Jayne Howarth about his hopes of kickstarting a career in furniture design after winning prestigious competition.
It’s not hard to imagine yourself beside the pool at a deluxe five-star hotel, relaxing on the teardrop-shaped chair that Nick Forrester has designed. Of course, a refreshing cocktail would nestle beside you on the matching table.
“It felt surreal when I was told I’d won,” admits 27-year-old Nick, who lives in Penkridge. “I liked the design and thought it was good but I know it’s a popular competition because many universities integrate this competition into their curriculum and didn’t think I’d actually win.”
Neither, would it seem, would the judges of the esteemed Alexander Rose student design competition.
But win he did – a cheque for £1,000 and an invitation to SOLEX (Summer Outdoor Living Exhibition) at the NEC in July, where his winning work will be exhibited.
For Nick was crowned the winner of the luxury outdoor furniture company’s 2016 UK student competition for his design of a matching chair and table.
His Amalfi range, which he designed specifically for the competition, is deliberately luxurious and designed to appeal to stylish hotels and exclusive beach resorts. Made from stainless steel and all-weather rattan and topped with either a toughened glass top or steely grey cushion, it exudes simple glamour.
And it’s an accolade that could easily be a stepping stone for the BDes (Hons) Product Design graduate of the University of Wolverhampton.

Your Rising Stars Nick, a former pupil of Wolgarston High School, hopes that his design will catch the eye of outdoor furniture manufacturers at the show, which could mean that a prototype of his range could be built with a view to being sold.
contribute to your knowledge, which you can abstract and apply to your designs,” adds Nick, who has also entered the international Rookies competition, having designed a deluxe watch for men.
“I have a passion for design in general, from watches and jewellery, to toys and furniture, but I’d really like to get into the outdoor and indoor furniture industry and will use my time at SOLEX speaking to as many people as I can to see what opportunities there are,” he said. “It would be amazing to see my design being made into a prototype and being sold.
What makes his winning Amalfi design stand out is that it has functionality as well as beauty. By creating a matching chair and table with tops that can be alternated, it means they have double the use. “If someone needed extra tables, they could remove the cushions and replace them with table tops, or vice versa if they needed more chairs,” explains Nick.
“I have a real passion for the visualisation process and think about everything in life with a logical approach, so I apply meaning to everything I do and design.
With ideas a-plenty, a passion for design, and a determination to succeed, it surely won’t be long before we are all sitting pretty on one of Nick’s beautifully designed chairs. For more details about Nick and his projects, visit www. forr.co.uk

Stylish Summer Beachwear by Emma Russell –Stylissimo, Image Consultancy, www.stylissimo.co.uk The beach beckons. The summer sun is nearly in sight. The cases are down from the loft. Now comes the time to take a look through your swimwear and cover ups ready to hit the pool. But are you ready? How does the swimwear look and feel? Do you feel confident or wish that you can wrap yourself in a towel and still get a tan! Swimwear is daunting for most women, but I believe that we all have the right to look and feel great in our clothes…even swimwear. The trick is to buy pieces which flatter and compliment your shape and draw attention to areas of your body that you like and away from areas that you don’t like. I’ve selected some of my top pieces from the High Street including hints and tips on what body shapes they would suit and how to avoid the dreaded swimwear fear.
Next Bikini Top £16
Style any one of these pieces with this chic maxi from New Look, teamed with the Accessorize swimsuit you can carry through the detail on the back of the suit. Wear it on an evening first as a fabulous ‘out to dinner’ look then relegate it to the beach, one piece, two purposes, saves suitcase space! New Look Striped Maxi £17.99
Debenhams Ben De Lisi Chevron Bikini £24 Next Bikini Briefs £12 Both of these bikini options are great for those with a small to medium bust as the detail in the twist or the chevron print create the illusion of volume and therefore make the bust appear bigger. Next also do great options in bikini bottoms, these are higher on the tummy and wider on the hip thus giving more coverage.
Accessorize Coral Swimsuit I love the detail on this crochet Accessorize one piece, the back of this suit will be a great focal point and will draw attention to your back rather than your front and the plunging neckline is great for those with wide shoulders or a small bust.
70
Your Fashion Debenhams Matthew Williamson Kaftan £38
Another cover up worthy of the bar is this Navy and Lace piece from Debenhams Janet Reger collection. Best suited to ladies with curves and an ample bust, the v neck minimises the bust and the draw string brings the fabric in at your waist complimenting and enhancing the narrowest part of your body. Janet Reger Kaftan £38
M&S Jungle Swimsuit £35 The large tropical print trend is a great option should you wish to look slimmer. Big bold prints give the illusion that those wearing it are smaller than they actually are. The one piece has a high cut leg which is great at minimising the hip and thigh area and creates the illusion of longer legs. Style with a big straw beach bag and you’re good to go.
Janet Reger Shorts £25 If you’re a fan of your legs and want to ensure they get lovely and golden then this lace playsuit is right up your street, and when you can style it with a bikini which gives you two looks and all for £28 it’s an utter bargain! The boho detail on the bikini creates volume, the balconette style will give support and boost your assets and the triangle halter neck style is great for minimising broad shoulders.
Boux Avenue Bikini Top £28
Primark Bikini Tops £8
Bottoms £18
Bottoms £5
Briefs £15
Graphic stripes are a big summer trend, I love the option of choosing different style briefs Boux Avenue offer this option and their size range is all encompassing from an 8-18. If you prefer a higher waist to flatten your tummy these bottoms are great as the vertical stripe will also slim down the hips, otherwise maximise your tan with the cute tie side bottoms.
Primark Playsuit £7

Your Diary of a Country Lady
Summer Sojourns
When the children were in nursery, our son Joe returned one day announcing that his teacher had shown him Sri Lanka on a world map. Given the fact that Joe’s paternal grandparents hail from there, we felt guilty that it had never dawned on us to do the same.
I’m pretty certain that every visitor to Sri Lanka takes in Pinnawahla, the elephant orphanage. Could 2 more emotive words ever be juxtaposed? Of course, we wanted to adopt one of the wee, wrinkly bairns and take him home! In the end, we took home a wooden one instead, placing him in sturdy packaging and writing “this way up” all over the box in the hope that he would survive the journey home unscathed. When we did finally open the box on British shores, it turned out we’d written “this way up” the wrong way up – our elephant was on his head and his tusks were not where they should be.
Consciences pricked, a few years and a few injections later, we set off to the mango-shaped isle at the foot of India. Being similar in size to Ireland, one can land in the capital, Columbo, in the South West, traverse the mountainous interior and bask on the white beaches of the north east within a two week trip. On our first visit in 2011, the civil war had recently ended and the police presence was imposing. The boys were impressed by the tanks and armed police. However, by 2015, with years of calm, this feature had diminished – slightly less entertaining for our sons but good to see the country settling and regenerating. Even Jaffna in the north where much of the fighting had occurred and where my husband’s family had lived, is finding its feet and opening hotels.
There is very little more surprising than contemplating trinkets in a shop when a herd of elephants trot past on their way to the river for a bath. Cue jokes re: clod-hopping sons sounding just the same. The maternal images are touching – the youngest elephants are jostled by flanking mother and aunties, kept safe within the heart of the troop as they process down the open road. Once at the river-side, one can hand
78
Your Diary of a Country Lady bananas to eager trunks and pat gorgeously furrowed brows – concluding that they would be significantly less appealing if not so wrinkly. I hope the same might be applied to me.
an instinctive arm whilst taking our photo. Then he politely asked if I could move towards the centre of the seat as I was making the elephant limp! If ever I need a motivation to sign up for Weight-Watchers, causing an elephant to limp must be it!
The content and quantity of the elephants’ diet has led to an imaginative enterprise: elephant poo paper. We visited a museum following the journey of squeezing, pressing and drying the poo until swathes of beautiful, somewhat fibrous paper emerges. Naturally we were enamoured with the novelty: many notebooks and postcards were purchased for ‘lucky’ family members with a similar taste for the unusual.
Of course, another mode of transport associated with Sri Lanka is the tuc tuc. On our most recent trip, we fitted 6 people plus the driver into this tiny washing machine on wheels. No seat belts, no doors, no room! With children growing, it is a sobering thought that never again will we share a tuc tuc or hear the driver call: “Hold on ladies, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!” Yes, he really did say this and it really was as hair-raising as it sounds! But we did reach our destination with remarkable promptness in the rush hour and I no longer feel the need to prove my mettle in Alton Towers. Wildlife abounds in Sri Lanka. One can visit one of the national parks - bouncing along the tracks in an open-top jeep. Here is where my hat blew off a second time; “Catch it!” we shouted to the jeep behind us just in time to see it disappear under the wheels and pop out in its new guise as a beret. Spotting peacocks, in their native landscape is joyous as is seeing towering termite mounds , elephants at the water’s edge and jungle foul strutting as proudly as their relatives do in our garden at home.
The obligatory elephant rides took place in the jungle and on the plains. The former involved straddling the elephant’s back, enjoying the closeness and the hairiness of its form whilst plodding through trees and into the river. At this point the ‘pahan’ uttered words which I can only imagine meant ‘ give the tourists a good dousing, especially the freckly one’ because that is what happened next. The elephant upon which my daughter and I sat, dipped its trunk and squirted gallons of water over its back – surprising, cooling and somewhat warranting of a wet tee-shirt competition (luckily, none was nigh).
Then there’s the wildlife one spots when just out and about - mongooses, chameleons, chipmunks, monitor lizards and a host of birdlife- bee-eaters, babblers, king fishers, kites and great white pelicans. One night during a fraught game of Uno in the bar of our hotel (suffice to say a particular child was being particularly obstreperous over having to pick up 12 cards), our son Joe calmly said “ there’s a mantis on me”. Initially no one paid any attention to him but when he repeated his statement a little louder, we eventually did. Sure enough, a praying mantis was there, filling the length of his shin, vividly green and in pious repose. Thank you dear creature for landing from above and presenting the most perfect
The elephant ride on the open plain was no more dignified. We perched on a scaffolded seat and first off, my hat blew away. The pahan caught it in one seamless move - outstretching
79
Your Diary of a Country Lady distraction when tempers were frayed – and I’m sorry I shrieked and threw my cards at you. (No animals were hurt in the making of this ….)
me for quite some time – it turns out that ‘shoo’ is not a universally understood word and that my husband is not as initimidating a figure as he’d like to believe (not amongst primates anyway.)
On another occasion, we returned to our chalet on the beach in Trincomalee to find a snake curled in the doorway. Now, I always thought that I would throw myself into danger to protect the children. But it turned out not to be so! I leapt onto the highest ledge and left them to fend for themselves at close quarters with the snake. Something I am yet to live down.
The children’s compliance for history and culture is bought by the promise of rounding off the holiday with a week on the coast swimming and body-boarding in turquoise seas. A favourite haunt is Pigeon Island - perched in the Indian Ocean with no inhabitants or buildings and very much more appealing than its name suggests. Here we snorkelled amongst the coral and flamboyant fish, and adhered to the conservation motto: “Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints.” (Or so we thought until, days later, Barnaby aged 7, was frisked at the airport and a stash of rocks tumbled out of his pockets.) Before we embarked on our holiday last summer a friend made me promise that I’d post photos on Facebook, saying that this was its entire raison d’etre. So dutifully and hurriedly, towards the end of our trip, I posted a few snapshots. Rather concerned that they might appear boastful, I prefaced the photos with these words: “Any feelings of jealousy that these pictures might incur should be mitigated by the fact that I have my mother-in-law in tow.” Here lies two grave errors. Firstly, my mother-in-law is actually very nice and secondly, most of her family had befriended me on Facebook before we set off. I’m pleased to report that diplomatic relations have now been restored!
Monkeys are plentiful, especially in ancient citadels and temples – in a ‘King Louis from the Jungle Book’ kind of way. It was in Sigirya Palace that the children spotted monkeys eating stolen custard creams in the same manner as they do – by prizing off the biscuit lid and scraping the buttercream with their teeth. On the ascent to the ancient Dambulla Cave Temples, a monkey leapt onto my bum-bag and made off with wet wipes and butterscotch. Alarmingly, it clung on

Best UK Vet Close to home Hello and welcome to the first in a series of articles from Blacks Vets, the award winning veterinary group. My name is Girish Thakral and I’m one of the partners here at Blacks, where I specialise in animal Cardiology. My colleagues and I offer a broad range of routine services together with additional expertise, including Surgery and Dermatology, regularly accepting referrals from other veterinary practices. We are extremely proud that we have been voted the Best UK Vet both in 2016 and 2015, an accolade that is awarded purely on client reviews. We also have some award winning staff on our team with our Dudley Practice Manager, Val Marsh, being voted as Practice Manager of the Year.
• Is there a vet available in the night from your own practice? • Is this on a premises you are familiar with and with the same veterinary team backed by an Accredited Veterinary Hospital in case you need it? • Are your pet’s veterinary records fully accessible? • Will my pet be forced to travel between vets when critically ill if continual care is not offered when changing from night to day? • Is there intensive care and a night nurse present to assist in the care of your pet when they may need it most? • Is the overnight service provided by an Accredited Veterinary Hospital? This is NOT the same as an animal hospital and has to adhere to a strict set of standards for the benefit of patients in their care. Sadly, many pet owners do not ask these questions until they face a worrying time in the night with accident or illness, so it is better to be prepared and do your homework. And remember, you can choose your out-of-hours service and still stay with the same daytime vet if you need to, just check that your pet does not have to be moved if seriously ill.
Girish Thakral MRCVS BVSc AH Cert VC Over the coming months, we’ll be introducing you to other members of our dedicated team, providing some really useful pet health information and sharing lots of tips, help and advice to make sure that your pets stay happy and healthy.
3. Diagnostic equipment - at the most critical time this can mean the difference between life and death where fast diagnosis is needed. It can mean better care for your pet in finding the problem quickly or sometimes lower cost if it reduces the need for a process of elimination during diagnosis. We recently invested around £500k in extending our veterinary hospital to provide state of the art equipment that has already benefited thousands of pets.
But first, lets start by helping you take a fresh look at veterinary care with a few helpful pointers to consider when searching for the right vet to take the best care of your pet and watch your pocket too: Vet Health Check List 1. Check that they are RCVS registered - A vet must be registered with The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in order to practice in the UK.
4. Operative expertise - all vets will offer basic surgery but what if additional expertise is needed with operating theatres designed
2. 24/7 care 356 days a year - check this thoroughly
82
Your Pets & Garden for bone surgery for example? Or if surgery can be avoided altogether by using a wide range of endoscopes with different sizes for different pets, meaning no incision is needed, which is better for your pet?
means you will need to see us less in the long term. 8. Additional expertise when you need it most – if your pet develops a condition that requires treatment outside of your usual vet such as an MRI scan, or if a second opinion is needed, is this available? Vets can refer their clients to Blacks as we offer expertise in cardiology (heart), dermatology (skin) and surgery carried out onsite at our state-of the art accredited Veterinary Hospital in Dudley. Our Certificate Holders who have additional training and qualifications are available whether or not you are a client of Blacks Vets.
5. Independent Ratings - check out independent client ratings such as Vet Help Direct to see what clients think of vets in their area. 6. Can they provide direct claims insurance support? - the last thing you will want to do when worrying about your poorly pet is to do battle with the paperwork of insurance claims. Ask if your vet can do this for you. Sometimes it is not possible, many times it is.
We hope that your pets live healthy, happy long lives and only ever need to see the vet for a health check. There are some great vets out there so please, do your research. Remember that you have the right to choose and it is very easy to change vets and transfer records at any point in your pet’s life if you feel that you are not getting the best care or you need a second opinion.
7. Preventative care - does your vet offer good cost effective packages for preventative care such as flea and worm treatments, vaccinations and health checks? Make sure as a dog owner that you are covered for Lungworm – it’s in the Midlands, it can be fatal and it can be prevented. This hopefully

Keep your garden blooming There’s still time to fill in any gaps in the garden with some instant colour. You can buy established plants of geraniums, cosmos, New Guinea impatiens and other flowering plants throughout the summer months. Dead head your baskets, tubs and herbaceous borders regularly to keep plants producing new flowers all summer.
Bacter for moss. Here’s a tip for keeping indoor plants moist while away on holiday. Simply stand them on capillary matting – the other end is put into a container full of water and the plants will take up the water as they need it. Remember to soak it first. Tomatoes and cucumbers will need water regularly during hot weather – preferably in the morning – this keeps the atmosphere humid and stops the plants being damp overnight which can cause problems with gray mold or botrytis.
Tubs and baskets need watering daily if the weather is dry, do it first thing in the morning or in the evening to avoid scorching leaves. Remember to liquid feed weekly. Once bedding plants in the garden become established, they should only need watering occasionally. There’s no need to water a lawn during dry weather – it’ll soon colour up again once we have some rain. If we do get a damp spell and you’ve still got moss or weeds in the lawn, then use Evergreen Complete or MO
Cut out the old fruited stems from blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries once the fruit is picked. It seems only 5 minutes since the spring bulbs were in flower, but they’ll be appearing in Garden Centre’s from the end of August!

Bring your lawn to Life
take a lot of effort to keep your lawn looking good throughout the summer.
GreenThumb Bridgnorth is a family run business with a dedicated team of professionally qualified Lawn Operatives, visiting over 2,000 lawns each year. Husband and wife, Jason & Vicki Bell took over the branch in 2015. Their experienced team have been caring for lawns in the Oswestry area for 8 years, with much of their custom coming from recommendations who are satisfied with their high quality customer care and the way they take care in caring for their lawns. GreenThumb Bridgnorth currently services Bridgnorth, Tettenhall, Codsall, Perton, Pattingham, Bewdley and the surrounding areas.
Millions of homeowners cut their lawns too short, which leaves the grass stressed and at risk of disease. For a healthy lawn you need to cut your grass no lower than one and a quarter inches long. This means you will probably need to increase the regularity with which you need to mow your lawn. Our summer treatments will feed and nourish your lawn, encouraging a thick sward and giving it a rich green colour. Hopefully we can look forward to long periods of good sunny weather over the next few months, giving us the opportunity to sit out in the evenings, perhaps with a glass of something cool, and enjoy the benefits of a beautiful lawn.
Your garden is the perfect place to host parties, barbeques and to enjoy garden games during the summer months. Although summer time is the best time to enjoy the lawn, continual use combined with warm dry weather can have an adverse effect on your lawn. But don’t worry, with the right tools and treatments it doesn’t

The fall and decline of
buy-to-let? Anita Gatehouse Your Lifestyle’s Financial Expert
The British continue their love affair with being buy-to-let landlords. After all, with bank deposit and mortgage rates so low, and a rapidly rising property market, it all seems so simple: take your cash and make a 20% down payment and borrow the rest at a low rate of interest; then find a tenant and sit back. In 20 years’ time – assuming you take out a repayment mortgage – you will own most, or all, of the property, which will hopefully have gone up in value. What could go wrong? In short, a lot.
New measures include: • A supplemental 3% duty has been applied to all bands of stamp duty (SDLT). As an example, a £350,000 property purchased before 6th April 2016 would have incurred an SDLT of £7,500. Today it is £18,000. • Previously, landlords could automatically offset 10% of their rental income as costs. Going forwards, they will only be able to offset actual costs incurred. • While landlords were previously able to offset all mortgage interest payments against rental income, from 2020/21, they will only be granted tax credit worth 20% of the interest cost to offset against income tax, irrespective of their marginal rate of tax. A transitional, hybrid regime exits in the interim. • In the latest budget, the Chancellor reduced capital gains tax from 28% to 20% on most assets apart from property, which remains at 28%.
Unfortunately for buy-to-let landlords, the Bank of England has a keen eye on the buy-to-let market. In its recent Financial Stability Report1, it cites a buy-to-let bubble bursting as a major risk to the UK economy. The Bank is concerned about the level and affordability of loans made by banks and other lenders, which, at the end of last year, was creeping towards the pre-crisis peak. In its report, it noted that buy-to-let borrowers are more susceptible to rate rises than owner-occupiers; if mortgage rates rise by 3%, nearly 60% of buy-to-let mortgages taken out recently would be in breach of the 125% interest cover (rent/interest payments) used in ‘affordability’ tests.
Buy-to-let is likely to look far less appealing to new investors, particularly those with high loan-to-value mortgages, as what used to be profitable, may now, in some instances, become loss making. Success requires ever rising house prices. The Bank of England’s Financial Stability Report refers to recent research that suggests that 15% of buy-to-let investors would sell their properties if the mortgage payments were no longer covered by the rental income and 45% would be ‘inclined to sell’ if house prices fall by 10%.
The Chancellor too has a particular interest in the buy-to-let market for social, economic and fiscal reasons. He is conscious of the political impact of the young not being able to get on the housing ladder; he is concerned about the rise in buy-to-let lending; and he sees an opportunity to raise some tax revenue. As a result of recent budgets, turnover, not profit, becomes the main focus of the buy-to-let tax regime.

Please Give Generously.... But Beware, Are You A Taxpayer?
On the other hand where your dividend income is in excess of £5,000 and your other income is in excess of your personal allowance it maybe worth meeting with your accountant now to assess the basic, higher and additional rates of income tax payable as your net income will, almost certainly, be lower than in previous years so you may not have as much to give away as in previous years.
We are now in the regime where, from April 2016, the dividend tax credit has been replaced by the tax-free dividend allowance. When deciding whether or not to tick the box to gift aid your donation it is worth taking into account the effect the new regime has on your tax status, your overall tax liability and your cash flow. This is because when donating the tax credits previously attached to dividend income could be used to discharge your requirement to account for basic rate tax deducted from gift aid payments.
Planning point…….Expert advice may be needed One year offer….. All is not lost. There is an entitlement to carry back gift aid payments made. Basically, with the right planning, you have the right to use 2015/16 dividend tax credits against gifts made in this current tax year.
Under the new regime if your personal allowance covers your state pension and other non-dividend income such as an occupational pension, plus you only receive up to £5,000 of dividend income a year, you will not have a tax liability.
If this applies to you then you may want to delay filing your 2015/16 tax return as, due to technical tax legislation, prompt filing may, in this instance, deny you some, or all, of this transitional benefit which is applicable until 31 January 2017.
In this situation, if you gift aid donations, you are exposed to assessment on the basic rate tax withheld from gift aid payments, i.e., you have to pay extra to settle the tax on your gift! Once made Gift aid declarations endure, it is up to the donor to withdraw a gift aid declaration. An affected donor who neither notifies HM Revenue & Customs of their tax liability, nor withdraws a declaration, will be involved in tax evasion.
One final point to consider is the effect the new regime will have on your future cash flow when personal tax bills are due to be settled. As well as extra tax to pay on your 2016/17 dividends future tax payments on account may show an increase which will need to be budgeted for well in advance.
If appropriate you need to review your tax status and your gift aid declarations now.

The dark tunnel that you may have been experiencing and languishing in for a while, is beginning to fade into the past. So it is important to concentrate upon everything connected with money, profession and business.
This is not a time to dive in with both feet, strategy might well be required in the days and weeks to come, especially in terms of emotional and personal decisions. Keep those cards close to your chest, and you can’t go too far wrong.
Leo 22/07 - 21/08 You could find yourself too-ing and froing over the next short period of time. Others should not expect you to be a performing seal. Your talent is valuable, your advice worthwhile and it is worth every penny of what anyone would want to pay for it, so don’t give it away.
Aquarius 20/01 - 18/02 With the position of the planet Venus in your chart it should be easy to make new friends and associates. Maybe it is a good time to leave old habits and routines behind and to look at life differently, expand your circle of friends and therefore get a lot more from your existence.
Virgo 22/08 - 22/09
Pisces 19/02 - 20/03
During what seems to be an incredibly busy period of time, try to indulge yourself in a well earned break. In order to recharge the old batteries and put you back in pole position.

Libra 23/09 - 22/10 Though you may not feel it necessary, the planets suggest that it is important for you to get a proper little modus operandi, and to plan the important things that you wish to do in meticulous detail. You will succeed, but it is going to take all tenacity and concentration that you have.
Aries 21/03 - 20/04 With a major constellation affecting your sign, it looks as if the days ahead could be best summed up as party time. Revelry, frivolousness and plenty of fun and frolics could leave you feeling in the pink.
Scorpio 23/10 - 22/11
Taurus 21/04 - 20/05
That sting in the Scorpion tail seems to be very much required at the moment. As there are those that would like to jump upon your ever improving bandwagon. Everything to do with re-organisation and rethinking important projects may raise it’s head now.
Life’s eternal chess game, looks as if it is coming to check mate, causing you to think about what you really want to do. Identify future goals and decide how you can extract more happiness from this funny old dream called life.
Sagittarius 23/11 - 20/12
Gemini 21/05 - 20/06
What a fabulous adventure lies ahead, those deep seated ambitions that you may have been holding within for a long time, are about to be fulfilled. Optimism and positivity will drive you forward into looking at life in a different way.
Where paperwork is concerned, be sure to check every last detail, it may be frustrating to have to scrutinise the small print, but it could save a lot of unnecessary problems in the future.
