Summer Sun Shine. Bringing the garden indoors. By - Jane de Weijer, Make Space Interiors Hi and welcome to the Summer season Home Interiors column, keeping you bang up to date with current 2017 ideas and trends. As an Interior Designer I will be looking at how, with a bit of tweaking, you can breathe fresh ideas into your home using the current trends. I will be creating that mood board for this season’s wish list and passing on trend watch tips for the season.

that summer shine inside with those metallic wallpapers currently on offer.

Well it is an English summer but, fingers crossed, the sun is out and hopefully we will get the hot and sunny summer that we all deserve after these winter months, getting outside into the fresh air, in the back garden or local park and admiring all that is out there. This month I am bringing the outside inside with a look at the new Florabundant trend and reflecting

Floral Trends 2017 Each year new trends are recognised and created that will dictate the colours and styles out there on the net and on the High street.

Blast from the past

English country gardens have inspired our Interior trends and spaces throughout the decades. Think back to those 70’s tiny floral prints to those large retro 60’s prints. Or the traditional 80’s chintz florals, we Brits love our flowers in our homes.

Looking back into the past. Looking back at these retro styles, www.vintage papers .com, is a great way to see how styles have changed.

Get FLORAL ‘Florabundant’ Is the 2017 interpretation of the floral trend. Gone are the pastel shades and tones and in come dramatic deep shades including fuchsia, yellow, deep orange and rich purples, combined with those spring greens all these colours sit side by side in the garden and this year they have been plucked out and are appearing in the latest Interiors, creating an exciting and dramatic palate for the summer room. Interior trends have, over the past year, incorporated tropical themes including palm trees and tropical birds in prints, textures and wall coverings and now Designers have started to look at our own home grown exotics for inspiration.

A combination of deep colours and strong vibrant shades are this seasons inspiration. 10

Where to start

When pulling together ideas and interpreting the Florabundant trend take inspiration from nature. It’s all about colour combinations. Looking at the flower board ,nature is the best source with vibrant colours and contrasts. It is time to be bold, the florals are large scale and make a strong statement but combine with soft neutrals in dark greys, grey-greens or stone to enhance those colours. Florabundant trend textures include heavy linens, velvets and silks.

I like to combine and balance with neutrals so that the colours ‘pop’. 1. Artwork : This is a 17th century Still life print. Go looking in antique shops, on-line and use the colours to create your colour scheme. I love the grey-green neutral base. The Heritage paint colours are the best go-to ranges to recreate this muted shade. 2. This large pendant light fitting adds that drama, and drama is what we are aiming for. Summer trend Watch: Your Statement chair Never has there been a better time to invest in that new chair. On its own it can breathe life into your room and make a real impact. Bold is the byword for 2017 and designers are specifying the ‘statement’ chair in order to compliment the themes in their schemes. Personal style is paramount, Whether you love your English Vintage or Far East minimalism, I have put together a collection of chairs, sourced both on-line and in the high street, that can ‘work’ in any room.

Currently we are refurbishing a beautiful Georgian House. Keeping colours neutral and concentrating on textures and the restoration of original period features.

LUXE AND PANELLED WALLPAPER FINISHES Summer Shine

With the quality of digital wallpapers being vastly improved and coming both into the retail market and onto the High Street you can also transform those plain walls and create that panelled room overnight.

I don't think that shimmer and shine is just for the winter months. Loving reflection and glamour in interiors throughout the summer months too.

I have combined both on my board. Now is the time that you can be adventurous and transform your rooms.

The Luxe trend which has been on the High street in the shape of high shine metallics in wall-coverings, textiles and accessories is still going to be a dominate theme over 2017 and 2018.

1: La Pointe / Gilt G P & J Baker www.gpjbaker. com 2: Vintage style Black and white plates from a selection by Zazzle, www.zazzle.com

All the brands are delivering exciting new collections including shine and texture. Used as a feature wall, combined with rich shades, you can make a real statement.

2: Colour Pop.

8: Statement chair: Fitz by Swoon Editions, www. swoon.com. Add contrast to those metallics with deep jewel colours for an instant 2017 vibe.

Want to add some colour but not keen to redecorate Just yet ? Try adding a ‘pop’ of rich colour to an alcove or behind some shelves. This can serve to provide a great backdrop to those metallic accessories, highlight artwork and photos and just provide that contrast to your decor.

Instant Summer Updates Changing your room is not like changing your shoes obviously. It can be a costly exercise so I am always keen to highlight the instant updates that you can make to bring the current trends into your living room. The big High Street retailers are offering some great accessories. Check out H&M Homes, my current favourite for accessories, cushions and Duvet covers. http:// www2.hm.com/en_gb

This real-time project refurbishment of a traditional Edwardian terraced house in Birmingham includes a rich blue alcove and shelf that works beautifully and also compliments the original pine storage cupboard. This is a lowcost solution that can make a real impact for the cost of a Tester pot or two.

1 : Lampshades. Breathe new life into that light fitting with a new Lampshade. Heavy florals will compliment the Florabundant trend. Either buy new or make your own with kits and on-line tutorials on You Tube, www.youtube.com , if you are feeling creative, or find a local supplier. On-line www.thelampshadecompany.co.uk or www.shadylady.co.uk. will provide you with that unique shade either bespoke or off-the -shelf. I really recommend the copper or gold interior in the shade to work with current trends. 2 important ways to prevent eye strain in the office/study with lighting. With many jobs involving sitting in front of a computer screen all day, eye strain is becoming a frequent problem in the workplace, affecting 50-90% of employees daily. We all know the obvious ways to prevent eyestrain, such as changing the monitor’s brightness to the same level as your surroundings, taking regular breaks, positioning your monitor correctly, changing text size and so on. However, many people don't realise that it is most likely, always, down to insufficient lighting in the office or your study at home. While most people can't change how long they sit in front of the computer for, they can reduce strain by using the following techniques:

1. Natural Light Excessive sunlight coming through windows is a big factor of eye strain. If possible, situate your computer next to a window, rather than in front or behind it to minimise glare. If the light is coming to the side of your screen, your eyes will not be exposed to the dazzling light reflection. If changing the position of your desk/computer is not an option, then try curtains or blinds to eliminate exterior lighting. Also, walls and furniture with a matte finish as opposed to a gloss finish, reflect light poorly, meaning there is less light to bounce around your screen.

2. Adequate artificial light. When you use your computer, your ambient lighting should be about half as bright as what you would typically find in an office. Use fewer lights, or use incandescent/low-intensity lamps to reduce glare and shadows. Fluorescent lighting can be harsh and working directly underneath overhead lights can cause strain, turn them off and use lamps to provide indirect incandescent or halogen lighting. If you don't want to turn them off, purchase a diffuser to filter the light. Light should never be directed in front or behind of your screen as it will cast a lot of light reflection, causing glare and strain. Place a lamp or dim light on either side of your workstation to create indirect, but equal lighting.

At Lighting R Us we have a wide range of suitable lights, that will fit right at home in the office or study. Come see us in store or visit our website to preview everything else we have to offer.

Projects from PAINT IT by Peta Green of Paint It Dated to Painted ....... The Brief Peta received an enquiry to paint a 25 year old bespoke kitchen, including all the wall pine cladding, the customer said everything that is pine is to be painted. The customer was desperate to update her dated country styled kitchen which included a lot of dust collecting ornaments and dried hops hanging from the beams. Peta’s brief was to brighten up the kitchen which appeared dark and offer advice on how this could be achieved.

Get the perfect match Mismatching bricks are a surefire way of telling the world you’ve had an extension. They can make your house look incomplete and untidy, like your extension is an addition, rather than part of your home. If you look at the pictures in the advert below they have been darkened to match the rest of the house, adding value and appeal.

doing some work, this clever technique is the final finishing touch to complete the job. As well as extensions, brick tinting gives the final finish after garage conversions, conservatory bases and boundary walls. It’s a method often used on Grand Designs projects, and it adds value if you are a property developer or builder. Colour matching is an art with each job being individually assessed and applied.

Whether you own a period property or a relatively new one, it’s almost impossible to get bricks that are perfectly matched. They change colour through weathering, so new ones are unlikely to look exactly the same, even if you have managed to find expensive replicas of your bricks.

At Colour Bricks Cosmetics, we have over 14 years’ experience in brick tinting. It all starts with taking photographs of the existing bricks and producing digital mock-ups of what it will look will look like after the tinting. Heart of Stone Work Surfaces

What Work Surface?

is a surface made by fusing together natural granite. This has the advantages of not using resin which is heat and UV sensitive and does not have the fissures and pores found in natural granite.

Home owners faced with a decision about what work surface to have in their kitchen now have a previously unimaginable number of options. Factors such as cost, function, maintenance, colour and style have to be considered. Henryk Gromadzki owner and general manager of Heart of Stone Ltd answers some of the most commonly asked questions about granite, quartz and other surfaces:

Why are granite and quartz and other surfaces expensive? Granite is extracted in quarries in huge blocks of about 20 to 30 tons in weight, and then transported to factories where they are cut into slabs. They then go through multi head polishing machines to be smoothed and bring them up to a shine. The machinery is very expensive and the process is slow. After polishing the slabs are then exported to stockholders or end users, adding yet more cost. Quartz is produced using similarly expensive machinery. The resins and pigments used in the manufacture of quartz slabs are also not cheap. The templating, cutting, edge polishing and fitting process usually costs about the same as the material for a typical kitchen.

Which is the best work surface? There is no simple answer to this as each has its own merits. Laminate tops are cheap and fairly low maintenance, hence their popularity. Wood is a naturally beautiful material, easy to work and not too expensive. Ceramic tiles are cheap and low maintenance, provided an epoxy grout has been used. Granite and other natural stones are hard wearing, stunningly attractive and fairly low maintenance. Quartz has its own beauty, is tough and impervious and very low maintenance. Polished concrete can be moulded into shape. Glass is very modern and available in a huge range of colours. Ceramic sheet is a new technology making its way into the market offering a different range of colours and textures and can be used in only 10mm thickness. Lapitec is another new material. This

Are granite and quartz impervious? All stone is porous. Granite worktops need sealing to prevent staining. Sealers are affected by acids and heavy cleaning, so periodic resealing is usually required. Quartz is impervious

Your

binds it together. Quatz tops are fine outside so long as they are covered over when not in use, otherwise their lifespan in the UK would be about 5 years, a figure based on client feedback.

and does not need sealing. Quartz is about 93% quartzite and 7% resin and pigment. The resin is impervious and acts as a sealer.

Are granite and quartz affected by heat?

Are other stones such as marble, travertine or slate suitable for work surfaces?

Quartz goes soft at 180C and melts at 200C, so it is possible to heat damage quartz in a domestic situation. Such damage is usually irreparable and replacement is required. Hot mats or trivet bars should be used with quartz. The term granite is loosely used to describe any igneous stone used for worktops. These so called granites may be granite or be basalt, sodolite, or other suitable igneous rock. These melt between 940C and 1260C, so are not likely to be damaged by heat. What can crack granite or quartz is large temperature differentials within a piece. If one end or the middle is heated the induced stress may well crack the piece.

They can be used, but are high maintenance and vulnerable to damage. Calcium carbonate based materials are particularly susceptible to acid attack and are easily scratched. These materials are best used as tiles, bathroom vanity tops or for fireplaces. Slate is tough, acid resistant, but scratches easily. It can be polished up fairly easily, so is probably one the safest of the non-igneous materials. Natural quartzites are very good, and we fit quite a lot of these.

Are the most expensive granites the best quality?

Can granite or quartz be scratched or chipped? Yes, given the right circumstances. Both are very hard and scratch resistant, but can be scratched or chipped. Not all granites are the same hardness, so some like Emerald Pearl are more prone to scratching than say Star Galaxy. Most granites will withstand being chopped on with a knife, but not all. In some cases the scratches can be polished out, but it is difficult to face polish these materials so that the repair is not visible. Chips are more easily repaired, particularly in colourful materials.

Strangely the answer to that is not usually. Granite pricing is determined by cost of production and desirability. The most stunning granites are usually the least sound structurally and often require mesh backing. Some of the strongest and hardest granites are amongst the cheapest. That is because the colour and texture of them is not so attractive. Each granite must be considered on it’s own merits.

Given the choice which would you have?

Which material is best outside?

I rather like the natural beauty and character of granite, so would choose that.

Some care needs to be taken in selecting stone for outside. Most granites are fine and will resist the elements well. Those with a heavy crystalline nature and open veins into which water can seep should be avoided as frost will damage these. Quartz needs protecting from UV light as this will break down the resin that

Is Spring a good time to sell? might fall into this category, put your house on the market straight after Christmas (make sure your Christmas decorations are down first) or early January. If you have a three bedroom semi or detached with a garden, near local schools and amenities then you are likely to appeal to young families. Young families tend to buy during school term times. They tend to avoid holiday periods so the end of winter, spring, early summer and autumn are popular times for them to buy. Bigger family homes tend to attract those with older children. This type of buyer is in a better position financially as their children have grown up. If you think about the position this type of buyer is in, the move is likely to depend on them selling a smaller family home. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, smaller family homes tend to sell in term time. This would mean that the end of term and going into the holidays would probably be best for the bigger type of family home buyer.

It seems to be a common conception that Spring is the best time to sell a property. Most estate agents would agree that Spring is a busy time of year, however, that doesn’t always mean it’s the best time of year to sell. Spring is a lovely time of year; the weather improves, the days get longer and with it, people begin to feel happier. Flowers begin to bloom and greenery appears which helps property photographs look a lot more appealing than bare and barren winter ones.

The key to putting your house on the market at best time is to really try and understand your buyer and what position they are in with their own lives. If you can understand your buyer you have a far better chance of getting the best price for your house and selling quicker. Whilst all of the above is not set in stone, I hope it has given you food for thought.

Whilst Spring is a great time to sell, to get the best price and the quickest sale, have a think about the type of buyer your property will appeal to and what position that buyer maybe in this time of year. If you have a two-bedroom flat or a small terrace house you're likely to attract a first-time buyer. This type of buyer typically begins their search earlier in the year, maybe after the Christmas period, they realise that they want their own space after spending it at mum and dads. I would suggest that if you think your buyer

Delicious Recipes By Mike Whitehurst METHOD Finely slice the red onions then melt the butter in a pan, add the olive oil and onions then top with the sugar. Allow to simmer for about 30 minutes until the onions start to look a bit sticky. If there is too much liquid just strain some off. Roll out the shortcrust pastry from the packaging (make your own if you know how to) . Place the tin next to it and roll out further imagining the pastry going up the sides of the tin and shrinking back too so be generous . Place the pastry inside the tin and push into the sides, dot with a fork and then scrunch up some parchment paper fill with lentils and push firmly into the pastry. Don’t cut the excess pastry from the edges as it will shrink during cooking. Blind bake for 20 minutes then remove the lentils and paper and continue baking for a further 15 minutes until the base if browned off. ( timings do vary between ovens) Once out of the oven brush the pastry with egg wash to fill any holes made by the fork. If you have any cracks just egg wash as much as possible, if a gap is too bit to fill with egg just squash a piece of goats cheese into the gap and egg wash over. Beat the eggs, cream and pinch of salt together. Now lay the red onion marmalade all over the bottom of the pastry, crumble the goats cheese on top and fill with the egg and cream savoury custard mix. Bake in your oven for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool a little, carefully pop the tart out of the tin then slice into 6 and serve with a nice green salad. This can also be served cold. For my green salad recipe email chef@ takefod.co.uk

Goats Cheese and Caramelised Red Onion Marmalade Tart Serves 6 INGREDIENTS Onion Marmalade 75g unsalted butter 300g of thinly sliced red onions 75g of soft dark brown sugar 1 tbsp f olive oil Tart 1 pack of shortcrust pastry 200g of goats cheese - rind removed 150ml double cream 2 free range eggs Pinch of Maldon sea salt

EQUIPMENT Chopping board A good cooks knife Coarse grater Mixing bowl Baking tray Parchment paper

METHOD Take your pastry out of the fridge 2 hours before you are going to make these and then when ready take the skin off the black pudding and empty the contents into a bowl with the sausage meat. Finely dice the shallot and slice the sage then fry in a little nob of butter for 20 seconds before pouring into the sausage meat. ( just to take the harsh edge off the sage and onion). Add in a handful of chopped chives and mix thoroughly. Roll out the pastry and divide the meat into 2 lots. Place the first batch of sausage meat along the pastry shaping with your hands as you move along to create a sausage shape. Roll the pastry over the meat then flip it to make sure the join is at the bottom and place on a baking tray with parchment paper underneath. Do this again with the top half of the pastry and then egg wash thoroughly and sprinkle with rolled oats. You can either slice them into 4 halves or cook whole and cut afterwards. Bake in a preheated oven on 180oC for 35-40 minutes. I always chill them first before cutting, I prefer sausage rolls cold especially with some really good coleslaw.

Pork and Black Pudding Sausage Roll with Beetroot and Apple Coleslaw Serves 4 INGREDIENTS Sausage roll 1 packet of ready rolled all butter puff pastry (shortcrust also works well) 150g g of good quality butchers black pudding ( crumbly ) 350g of good quality butchers sausage meat 1 egg A handful of rolled oats 1 bunch of chives 1 shallot 4 sage leaves Coleslaw

Whilst the sausage rolls are cooking chop the red cabbage up as thinly or chunky as you like. Wash the cabbage and place in a mixing bowl then grate in the apple (skin on) the beetroot and the carrot. Finely chop in a few sprigs of parsley and the juice of the half lemon then a tbsp of mustard and then fold in the mayonnaise. Once ready serve with a bunch of watercress.

1 small red cabbage 1 large carrot 2 pre-cooked beetroot 1 large apple 200g of good quality mayonnaise Bunch of curly parsley Half a lemon Wholegrain mustard 1 Bag of watercress

Your Private Chef and Caterer made it possible for us to spend 2 weeks in London. On the last day of searching I found a live in job at the Clachan in Kingly street next to Carnaby street on the junction of Oxford Street and Regent Street. Having the Odeon Leicester Square as my local cinema wasn't to shabby at all! I spent 2 years or so in London but missed home and moved back. It’s lonely place London is unless you have friends close by. I did have friends there but an hour away on the tube. I do secretly miss it but not enough to move back.

I’ve always been interested in food from as far back as i can remember but not just the eating part. My mum remembers asking me to put baking potatoes in the oven for tea one afternoon whilst she as at work and apparently i’d drizzled them with oil and salt before baking them. I don’t remember it but i’ll take that as the beginning of my love and natural creativity with food. I do remember making perfectly round stuffing balls for Sunday lunch when i was about 9 so that landed me the job as stuffing ball maker every Sunday for lunch from then on and then started getting creative with whatever i found in the cupboard.

When I moved back home I did many jobs as a chef for about 6 years but never really felt totally happy in a hot kitchen not cooking my own recipes and menus, especially in the summer. So after my last job as head chef for a gastro pub in Bridgnorth I became self employed with no idea where it was going to lead. As time went by I started doing the odd buffet here and there and then I became the Civic Halls chef for crew catering, which means I cooked for lots of bands from the 80’s I grew up listening to when they were on their revival tours/ I also cooked for the panel of Question Time, David Dickinsons real deal, The Mike Tyson Event and The Darts to name a few TV events. I also worked at Silverstone and Good wood festival of speed cooking in the VIP tent for Jenson Button and then on set of the BBC drama South Riding. They were long hard 18 hour days and I thought there has to be and easier way of making money from what I love doing, so I woke up one day in 2009 with the name takefood in my head. Takefood means to eat, to take food in etc.. so it made sense to me.

I skipped a few food years and worked as a barman in Wolverhampton’s Light Bar although i did do a little cooking there I was mainly a barman. After a few years I started to get the buzz back for cooking and so moved to London with the help of a friend Richard Gorman who

I bought a MacBook with a free web building package and started building my own catering website. It’s been a challenge but I freelanced here and there whilst building up some presence as a caterer. In 2013 I found a unit in Wolverhampton which i was able to convert

I’d never put stud walls up or tiled before but with the encouragement and help of other people on the industrial estate I managed over the course of year and a half to create my own purpose built kitchen and then got a van. Everything has been bit by bit but now i’ve done it and it’s upwards and onwards from here.

I now have my own business, catering for businesses such as David Wilson Homes, TATA steel and Babcocks all around England and Wales providing breakfast, lunch or canapé reception catering depending on their event. I’ve also built up a good reputation with many private clients too, providing catering for a christening, birthday party or any special occasion doing canapés, bowl food, buffet lunch, afternoon tea and evening dinner parties in peoples homes or at venues around the country. With the help of Tracy my fiancee I have been able to build the business up quicker and with the help of the all important Martell who is a great all rounder they have made it easier for me to become busier.

Working for myself has allowed to me to become more creative and much happier being able to express my passion and earn a living too. I’m now expanding in to a unit twice the size. www.takefood.co.uk 07939907371 instagram.com/takefood facebook.com/takefood twitter.com/takefood

Your Wedding

All Made Up!

Perfect Bridal Make-up for your Big Day

All brides want to look their best on their wedding day and most importantly, they want their make-up to look good all day and into the night.

and drink plenty of water. It is hard to ensure that you sleep well the night before your big day what with the last minute planning and excitement but as least be kind to your skin and rest as much as you can.

Award winning Make-up Artist, Katy Bird, works throughout the Midlands covering all aspects of make-up and fashion as well as editorial, commercial, television and bridal makeup. With 17 years of experience, Katy knows what works best for each individual face, what products to use and how to create the perfect, long lasting, flawless bridal look.

Make sure that you have all your “landscaping” done, eyebrows, tash etc. If waxing, do so at least a week in advance so that any scabbing may heal. You can always tweezer a few rogue hairs out on the day. Aim for a soft clean palette to work from. Katy’s Top Tip - Don’t make any major changes in the weeks leading up to the wedding, keep to your regular skin routine and don’t change products.

Get Prepared To ensure you look your best on the day, preparation is essential. To quote Katy “Makeup sits best on good skin; a clear canvas so to speak”. Therefore, your “canvas” has to be the best you can make it and there are a few things you can do leading up to your wedding day that will help.

Base Foundation Foundation is key to a flawless look. A setting powder is essential as this will set and support the foundation and most importantly, keep it on longer! Test products well in advance. Most brands have a colour matching service so go along and test out both primer and foundation until you have found your preferred tone and texture. If you do go for a colour match then remember to wear something that is similar in colour and design to your bridal gown. Don’t go

Exfoliate your skin to keep it fresh and invigorated and moisturize well, even if oily. Plump, hydrated skin looks fuller and has better colour so will give you a good base to start from. If you can avoid alcohol leading up the wedding do so, especially the night before,

in black or dark colours, wear light colours which will reflect a similar light to your dress on the day and if you can, pop outside in the daylight as artificial lighting can dramatically alter shades and tones. Think about the style of your dress. If it has a low neck line for example, then make sure that you blend the foundation on your face with your exposed skin on your neck, chest and even arms. It is important that your face doesn’t look a different colour from the rest of you. Remember when testing and matching to dab the foundation colour on your chest and pick a foundation that will sit best on all areas of skin.

Katy’s Top Tip – Avoid ‘Moon Face’. Don’t go for a foundation that has a high SPF. This can react to flash photography making your face look pale and luminous in the photos. Stick to foundations with a SPF of 10 or lower

All Eyes On You Once you have applied your primer, foundation and set with powder then do your eyebrows as they frame your eye and help you create your eye make-up look. Katy recommends an eyebrow pencil loaded with powder drawn long the brow to create even tone and colour throughout. If needed lengthen the ‘tales’ to help widen your eyes. Now your frame-work is set then create your eyes. Again, Katy advises that eye primer is essential as it will help keep your make–up on all day even if a few tears of joy are shed! Pick a style you’re comfortable with, don’t go for something dramatically different from what you normally wear. Keep in mind that you want to look the best version of yourself, not somebody else! Play up your eyes with warmer tones, ideally gold, bronze and brown hues.

Katy’s Top Tip - Use Mac Paint Pots, Painterly as an eyeshadow primer. It’s a longwear blendable eyeshadow that goes on creamy and dries to an intense vibrant finish. It’s a perfect base for holding you eye colour on all day.

Our sale shop has moved to Quarry Bank High St, opposite the main shop and is open: Mon - Thurs, 10 - 4.30pm, Friday 10-2pm and Sat 10 - 4.30pm Huge savings on a stunning range of designer wear 22b High Street, Quarry Bank, West Midlands DY52JW Tel: 07914 687630

look with red lips then use Lime Crime’s Matte Velvetines, Red Velvet, liquid lipstick. A wonderfully intense colour that stays on and doesn’t bleed.

Finishing Touches After your final application set you look makeup setting spray. Its helps hold the make in place and control the natural oils in your skin. Make sure you have it to hand throughout the day (as well as your powder) and for a quick application to control unwanted shininess.

Kiss the Bride If you can, make sure that you apply lip balm such as Blistex to your lips the night before the wedding so they plump and soft. Even on waking, slather them with balm so you have a soft base to work from when you come to apply you lip colour.

Kate’s Top Tip – Fix your makeup with Setting Spray. Try Skindinavia Setting Spray or Urban Decays, All Nighter. Just mist it on to fix your make-up in place.

Liquids lipsticks are the new modern lipstick as they stay on longer. However if you fancy a more old school approach and Katy advises a lip liner all over the lips to create a waxy base and then applying your lipstick on top. This will help the lipstick to stay on longer.

Royston and Nick’s Diary Royston`s 60th Year.

After returning from their break, it was back to full speed. The salon was heaving with their return and plans were being organised for his big day!

This year is going to be a full-on celebration for Royston`s 60th Birthday.

150 of their closest friends were invited to join them at a friend`s fabulous home in Manchester to celebrate Royston`s birthday and them renewing their wedding vows. After 32 years, together and 10 ½ years married, this usually unromantic couple, had everyone close to tears as they confirmed their love and commitment to each other, in their own unique way!!!

The festivities were kicked off with a luxury two-week vacation, which is a real rarity for this workaholic pair who never holidayed at all until a few years ago, and NEVER for just over TWO weeks!!!!! First Class all the way for a week in Sydney, to meet up with friends they met last year in Mykonos. Staying at the Park Hyatt opposite the iconic Sydney Opera House, they were shown the sights and exclusive night life of this vibrant city. The relaxed and chilled out atmosphere was a great way to unwind after their hectic lifestyles but unfortunately the British weather followed them and after four days of rain, they were very glad to be jetting back off to their favourite destination Dubai.

There they joined close friends Jo and Malcom Bridgwood for a weekend of fun, but as they departed for home, the revelries didn`t stop there! Dubai legendary for amazing weather, extravagance shopping and opulent hotels and restaurants were exactly what the guys needed to recharge the batteries and they certainly were not ready to return home.

The day was like a carnival! Everyone was dressed to kill in Red Carpet Glamour and the Hall was decorated in a mass of flowers. Champagne and cocktails flowed all day and the party started as everyone arrived and continued until the last person left. It was a truly magical day and one no one will ever forget including Royston.

Fierce Florals by Emma Russell –Stylissimo, Image Consultancy, www.stylissimo.co.uk A failsafe trend for the spring summer season will always, let’s face it, be florals! It returns season after season, so what differs from year to year? Well the flowers featured in the prints for one, this year we’ll see everything from tropical botanicals, to English country garden ditsy delicate blooms right through to palm leaves and seventies inspired bold psychedelic prints. Base colours usually dictate whether a floral is for winter or for summer but this year the rule book has been thrown out of the window. Victoria Beckham, Erdem and Roksanda featured white or pale blue based florals, with dark based florals from Michael Kors, Lanvin and Alberta Ferretti. We’ll see a lot of sheer floaty delicate fabrics pulling through to the high street which will be perfect for those beautiful summer months and the impending wedding and races season.

Dorothy Perkins Suit Jacket £35 Trousers £20

New Look Fuchsia Heels £27.99

Florals don’t always need to mean dresses though, especially for Weddings as sometimes it’s nice to create a different aesthetic especially when wearing the print head to toe. Why not play around a touch with tradition and opt for a co-ord floral suit with a plain cami top and heels, like this one from Dorothy Perkins.

Marks & Spencer Box Bag £27.50

Floral Maxi Dress £55

Miss Selfridge Kimono £55

64

The colour clash of the season is a bold shade of pink with red, this Kimono jacket would look awesome slipped over a plain blush pink slip dress allowing the jacket to be the statement piece with this tiny box bag worn perched casually on your shoulder. If you prefer your look to have more femininity but like an edgy detail or two, this maxi from M&S is perfect. The bold black straps create a focal point drawing attention to your collar bone and clash beautifully with the delicate fabric and colour palette of the dress.

Your Fashion A darker base takes the floral trend and turns it on its head giving it a more edgy less girly feel to it. The use of delicate sheer fabrics and bold fuchsia shades of pink, which Pantone has dictated the shade of the season, I do think that a dark floral has a place at a wedding top table! This can be seen in this dress from Debenhams Debut collection, style with a small neat black fascinator to ensure that the hat doesn’t over power the shape of the dress, a perfect option for a girl with curves. If you have multiple weddings this summer, avoid wearing the same thing twice by choosing separates, like this bold printed skirt from Marks & Spencer. Style the skirt with a neat plain top in any of the colours within the print, why not try the electric blue or the bold pink, but keep the top neat to avoid creating too much volume within the look. If you prefer to wear the print on your top and draw attention to the upper part of your body, then style this sheer floral top with the bold fuchsia midi skirt. The skirt could be switched out with some wide leg black trousers in a light fabric to create a second look which still ensures that the look remains summery.

Lipsy Michelle Keagan Jumpsuit

For the bold and the brave there is always a jumpsuit, this one from Lipsy and the Michelle Keagan collection caught my eye as the addition of the ruffles and the seventies vibe really add to the glamour of the piece. Don’t be afraid to try on a head to toe floral look, always remember my Stylissimo Style Rule for choosing prints… Medium or bigger sized prints will give the illusion of a smaller slimmer body and petite girls opt for a more delicate dainty print to avoid looking overwhelmed. If you wish to understand more about how to wear prints, which size is best for you or fancy having a helping hand while looking for your perfect wedding guest outfit then why not book a Style Consultation or a Personal Shopper experience using the reader offer below.

Your Jobs

Why I Love My Job Crystal Comfort - Julie Dodd A few months after my initial anxiety started I found myself buying crystal bracelets, and a few stones. It wasn’t just the beauty of these stones that caught my eye it was the fact that they had come from earth and that some of them had been growing there for years. I was hooked and decided to learn more about the connection between crystals and how they can be used to heal us. I started to learn a lot about the body, and that our entire bodily system is nothing more than energy that shows up in various patterns and densities. Our thoughts and our feelings are connected to our physical bodies and have a density of their own. We are all built pretty much the same. Diversity has its place, and we are all individuals, yet nature created patterns that work the same in all of us to keep our hearts beating, our blood flowing, and so on. When these patterns of energy work together in a balanced way then we experience our health. However these patterns can be disrupted by our emotions and our outlooks on life. When this happens we experience poor health. This can be anything from a headache to disease.

Julie Dodd I always knew from a very young age that my life would take me down a route of working closely with people. As a child I would be the one who would look after everyone else as an adult I would be the one that people came to with their problems. I found myself volunteering for charity work, organising charity events and eventually training to be a bereavement councillor and completing a meta health course. My journey with crystals started back in 2015 when I suffered with a severe bout of anxiety. I remembered having a moment when I sat talking to the doctor and thinking if I have no idea what is going on with me how on earth will he know. I thanked him for his time and left and decided that I would have a good look at my lifestyle and see if I could try and find out what was happening to me and if I could heal myself.

Your Jobs Crystal healing works by placing crystals on each of the energy centres of the body (chakra’s) to help bring the body back into balance. Each stone resonates with a slightly different pattern. These same patterns reside in our systems, organs, etc. To hold a Rose Quartz up to our heart is to ask the structural patterns active in our subtle bodies to align themselves and operate effortlessly and with purity. Crystal healing helps to bring the body back into balance on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level and is completely natural so can be used on any age group. It can help with anxiety and physical conditions. Each treatment takes around an hour and half which includes a 45 minute treatment and 45 minute consultation.

It’s never too early to start taking Treetops welcomes Gillian Cottam care of your child’s Very few could have failed to notice the amount of coverage across all media about the state of children’s oral health and there are some fairly shocking statistics on the subject. It’s estimated that over 46,000 children are admitted to hospital every year for tooth extraction with this number rising yearly. Something like three in ten children do not see a dentist which can mean disease sets in from a very early age, often resulting in the need for treatment under general anaesthetic. This is creating an increasing burden on an already over-stretched health service with some children having to wait up to a year for a general anaesthetic. All this despite the fact that tooth decay is almost entirely preventable through education, positive behaviours and regular visits to the dentist. Obesity is a primary focus for Public Health England and a main driver of the disease in sugar consumption. This is also contributing to tooth decay in 12 per cent of three year olds (up to 30 per cent in some parts of the country).Dental Snacks aimed at children often Treetops Surgery is delighted to welcome have the highest levels of sugar and sugary Gillian Cottam. West Midlands travel agency Mercian Travel rebrands as Destina and appoints new Agency Manager

the newly rebranded business. Abi has over 15 years’ experience in the travel industry including previous roles at British Airways, Good Travel (Destina’s parent company) and most recently Pure Destinations in Edgbaston as Head of Operations and weddings and honeymoon specialist.

Mercian Travel, a leading retail travel agency in Hagley, West Midlands, has announced a full rebrand, unveiling its new name, fresh website and new look store. Now known as Destina by Good Travel, the luxury travel agency on Worcester Road, Hagley, has undergone a complete refurbishment to provide a bright, modern and inviting space for its customers.

Abi commented, “I’m delighted to be joining Destina at such an exciting time for the business and thrilled to be re-joining such a wellestablished and respected family business. Being from the area, I can’t wait to meet our customers and share with them all that Destina has to offer. Our team has been with the business for years, their friendly and knowledgeable approach and willingness to go the extra mile in creating the perfect holiday, delivers a brilliant customer experience that keeps customers coming back year after year."

Kevin Harrison, Managing Director of Good Travel and Destina commented: “I am delighted to announce Mercian Travel is now rebranded as Destina. We’ve taken a lot of time to create the new brand that celebrates our values, our vision and the customers we serve but also upholds our hard-won reputation for delivering the best in luxury travel.” Destina’s logo includes a series of interlocking ‘D’ shapes, reminiscent of the Celtic five-fold symbol meaning North / East / South / West / Centre (forming a compass), also representing the four seasons and elements, and the colour scheme reflects the aspects of luxury travel. The business was keen to include the Good Travel name in some way, as a reminder of the family ownership and heritage of the John Good Group, which dates back to 1833.

On Abi’s appointment, Kevin commented, “Abi brings extensive experience to Destina and will be a real asset to the team. Her focus on customer experience will only enhance the great service we’re already so well known for; I know our customers will be delighted with the positive changes we’re making to ensure we continue to delight our customers from the first time they speak to us to their arrival back home at the end of their holiday.”

Plenty to

plant out

There’s plenty to plant out and do in the vegetable plot at the moment. Plant smaller quantities little and often to keep a steady supply of veg for the kitchen. Sow or plant salad crops fortnightly. There’s no need for vegetable and salad shortages when you can grow it yourself. Lettuces in particular have a fairly quick turn round. There’ll be a full range of vegetable and herb plants available now in garden centres. Remember don’t plant out tomato plants or cucumbers until it’s warmer at night – they soon go blue if they’re cold! You can start growing them inside but they need night temperatures of approximately 15 deg C.

Begonias, Impatiens and Geraniums until the beginning of June if necessary. Water well to get established, feed fortnightly and dead head regularly.

Spray fruit bushes before buds burst and after the fruit has set – never when flowers are fully open. Spray first thing in the morning or later in the evening to avoid scorch from the sun and to avoid pollinating insects.

Prune spring flowering shrubs once flowering has finished – forsythia, spiraea and flowering currants - this will produce nice long growths for next spring’s flowers. Once Clematis montana has finished flowering, prune back to encourage new compact growth.

Start making up hanging baskets and tubs, but don’t leave them outside at night until the beginning of June, a late frost will spoil them. Use a good multipurpose or tub and basket compost that has added moisture control and slow release fertilizer. For a mixed basket you need one good sized plant to put in the centre, - geraniums or upright fuchsias are ideal for this job. Then a mixture of trailing geraniums, trailing fuchsias and any of the large range of hanging basket plants that are available today. Don’t be tempted to put them in a dark garage or shed, they need good light levels at the moment to get established. A popular theme at the moment is to plant up your basket with just one type of plant – Million Bells, Trailing Petunias, and Verbenas are ideal to do this with.

As the weather improves the grass will start growing and need cutting. Do a light cut first, gradually reducing the mower height over several cuts. Weeds and moss can be treated with products such as Scotts ‘Evergreen Complete’ which will fertilize the lawn as well as killing weeds and moss. Never be tempted to rake out moss before killing it, you’ll just make the problem worse. MO Bacter the moss treatment and lawn food I wrote about last month can be applied to your lawn at any time from March through to September, bearing in mind that the fertilizer releases over a 3 month period. A new product from the makers of MO Bacter is Bio-Press which is an organic spot treatment for patches of heavily moss infected lawns, it’s child and pet friendly and works within days.

Summer bedding can be planted outside from the end of May onwards, so long as we aren’t getting any late frosts. Antirrhinums, Asters and Lobelia first, leaving Marigolds,

KEY DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2017 Martin Neenan, Garden Creations’ General Manager reviews some of the top trends in garden design, which are set to continue this year. Rethinking Outdoor Experiences

perfect backdrop for vibrant planting schemes.

As we know, an increasing number of homeowners are turning their gardens into a space they can use all year round. This can be as simple as creating cosy sheltered areas where you can cook, eat and socialise around a fire pit, to making the garden an integral part of the home using complementary hardlandscaping materials. This trend is also now moving into more elaborate designs, including the emergence of outdoor kitchens.

Low Maintenance For this piece we couldn’t leave out the growing popularity of artificial grass. This is a trend set to stay with more and more options being developed for homeowners to simulate the look and feel of real grass. There are lots more we could focus on, from patios to driveways and even cool garden gadgets that are being integrated into modern designs – our favourite is the underground patio drinks cooler!

Colouring Structures There is now a real demand for customers wanting more colours out of their structures. This can be achieved by painting fences, sheds or structures like pergolas in black, dark green or dark blue. These dark surfaces also provide the

Getting to the root of the problem Help prevent a dental disaster! We all know that cleaning our teeth is essential to good oral hygiene. It keeps our teeth strong and healthy, helps prevent painful conditions such as Gingivitis and keeps dangerous bacteria to a minimum. Left unchecked, bacteria can enter the blood stream and increase your risk of potentially fatal heart disease. But did you know that many of the same considerations also apply to our pets?

• • •

Cleaning your dog or cat’s teeth is often a job that is overlooked, with many responsible pet owners simply unaware of the dangers of leaving their pet’s teeth unattended to. And it isn’t surprising. Misconceptions surrounding teeth cleaning and a plethora of products on the market that claim to achieve similar results to regular brushing, are leading to confusion around the subject. The bottom line is that failing to clean your pet’s teeth can have serious consequences including: swollen, sore gums, infection, heart and kidney problems and possible painful tooth extraction. Ouch!

• • • •

Is my pet eating normally? Animals rarely stop eating altogether even in severe cases of dental disease, but may change how they eat. For example, they may only eat on one side of their mouth or gulp their food instead of chewing. Are they pawing frequently at their face or mouth? Are they drooling excessively? Do the teeth look healthy? Are any misaligned, discoloured or broken? Do the gums look pale pink and healthy? Are any areas red, swollen or bleeding? Can you see any yellow/brown tartar buildup around the gum line? Are there any unusual bumps or growths within the mouth? Are they behaving differently? Are they withdrawn, lethargic or irritable?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, make an appointment to see a vet as soon as possible.

Here at Blacks, we are passionate about raising awareness of good pet dental hygiene so that we can prevent unnecessary suffering amongst our furry and four legged friends. After all, our pets have no voice to tell us when something is wrong and may be experiencing undetected dental pain for a long time before the cause is determined.

2. Invest in the right equipment. Good veterinary surgeries, pet shops and online retailers sell specially designed pet toothbrushes and toothpaste. NEVER use human toothpaste as the fluoride contained in them is poisonous to animals. Pet toothpastes are flavoured to appeal to animals and will ultimately make the process easier if your dog or cat is attracted by the scent. To celebrate National Smile Month (15th May – 15th June) Blacks Vets are offering 30% off all pet toothbrushes and toothpastes. Call in to your local branch in Dudley, Lye, Quinton, Sedgley or Oldbury.

So, what are the signs that we should look out for and what can we do at home to prevent harmful dental conditions? Here are our top tips:

Open wide….. 1. Look in your pet’s mouth every week for signs of dental disease and ask yourself the following questions: •

By Dr Sarah Smith, Blacks Vets BSc (Hons) BVM&S MRCVS

3. Establish a regular cleaning routine. We recommend cleaning your pet’s teeth every day for optimum effect, but even brushing 3

4. Consider how your pet is fed. Though not possible in all cases, dry food is generally better for teeth than wet as the abrasive texture means that less food sticks to teeth. Blacks Vets recommend Royal Canin pet foods and their excellent dental kibble can be used exclusively or mixed with existing food. Your vet will be able to advise on the suitability of switching to dry food according to your pet’s own circumstances.

Have your pet’s teeth regularly checked by a qualified vet or nurse. Whilst home maintenance can do much to prevent dental disease, most pets will need some form of dental care from their vet during their lifetime. Here at Blacks, we offer twice yearly dental checks as part of our Protect My Pet Club as well as great savings on some dental procedures such as Scale & Polish. Being proactive when it comes to dental hygiene will not only save your pet from suffering unnecessarily, but also be more cost effective in the long run. Visit www.blacksvets.co.uk for further details.

Case Study You can clearly see thick tartar build up in this dog’s mouth which has caused the gums to recede. This would almost certainly have meant that the dog was experiencing pain, yet he was still managing to eat his normal quantity of food. Luckily, the problem was caught just in time and on this occasion, no extraction was necessary. A thorough clean remedied the situation and we were able to send home a much happier dog (and owner!) as goodnight kisses were much more enjoyable without the smelly breath!

5. Be cautious with dental chews. These are often laden with calories and don’t last long enough to do an adequate cleaning job. Using dental chews and toys should NEVER replace a regular tooth brushing regime.

or 4 times a week can make a big difference to oral health. Choose a time when your pet is relaxed and let them sniff or lick a little of the toothpaste from your finger. Let them get used to the sensation of having their mouths touched and opened. Try rubbing a little paste on to their gums with your finger so they also become familiar with the motion. This process can take 4-8 weeks so don’t feel under pressure to rush. Once they are accustomed to the process, apply a little paste to the brush and gently encourage them to open their mouth. Don’t worry if you don’t manage to clean all their teeth on your first attempt. It may take several goes to build up confidence in the procedure from both parties! Consistency is important so try to set aside the same time each day to clean, so that your pet becomes comfortable with the process. For example, many owners clean their pet’s teeth after coat grooming when they are still and calm. Keep aiming for a little longer with each try and be sure to give lots of fuss and praise after each clean.

The RSPCA needs YOU! Volunteer to help at the RSPCA and you may be surprised how rewarding you’ll find it. A recent survey of trustees who give their time to the animal charity showed how fulfilling, rewarding and interesting they find working with the RSPCA. “I love being part of a team that makes a real difference to the welfare of local animals”. “We all have particular skills and it’s a really good feeling when they are used to help animals who through no fault of their own need our assistance”. These are just two of the quotes from RSPCA branch trustees about why they are involved working with the charity on a voluntary basis. It really is all about the animals and working as a team to make a difference.

Is there a good way to divorce? By Harbinder Gosal one another so they can both play active roles in the day to day life of their two children.

It may have been a phrase that made you cringe but “conscious uncoupling”, as fashioned by actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin, is something that more divorcing couples could try and emulate.

On the flipside, the very public playing out of the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt split showed the ramifications of a more toxic divorce procedure.

It may have seemed like a banal Americanism but Gwyneth and Chris’ conscious uncoupling is actually a brilliant example of a good way to separate. She described it as a way to stay as a family while taking the step of legally ending their marriage.

Family Law expert Harbinder Gosal, an Associate with FBC Manby Bowdler, said: “It’s always a sad situation when a couple splits, but avoiding anger, managing emotion and making a conscious decision to work towards co-operation from the outset can help reduce the pain of break-up, especially when children are involved.

The former couple holiday together and share care of their two children while managing to enter new relationships and get on with their now separate personal lives.

“Under the Children and Families Act 2014, a separating couple must consider using mediation before they can ask for a Court decision, and that will be easier if you can approach it with some form of accord in place.

While the media would have you believe it’s a less amicable split between TV presenter Zoe Ball and her husband, DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, the couple now live next door to

Your Finance & Legal “One advantage the Jolie-Pitts have is that they are able to apply for an immediate nofault divorce without proving wrong-doing or placing blame on one partner. That’s not available here, and having to ascribe blame to get a swift divorce can fan the flames, by stirring up grievances to make a case.”

“The storyline in The Archers is a more complex one. The issue of child custody has been portrayed in a series of court hearings, highlighting the dilemmas involved in maintaining parental contact in such situations. “We would advise anyone to seek legal advice and guidance on what options are available to them, the collaborative approach won’t work for everyone.”

Unlike California, no-fault divorce is allowed in England and Wales only after a two-year separation, something which can be difficult for many couples to manage without the financial settlement that comes with divorce. As a result, spouses are likely to resort to citing grounds to get a speedier divorce, which can be on the basis of unreasonable behaviour or adultery.

* Harbinder Gosal joined FBC Manby Bowdler as an Associate in the Family Department in 2016, dealing with all aspects of Family Law specialising in privately funded Divorce and Matrimonial Finance cases.

Harbinder added: “But coming together, or attending mediation, is not always possible, particularly in cases of domestic abuse, such as that portrayed by the fictional Titchener characters in the BBC Radio Radio 4’s drama The Archers.

ISA’s – your best defence against the latest tax grab The cut to the tax-free dividend allowance from £5,000 to £2,000 from April 2018 is a bitter pill from the Chancellor.

Anita Gatehouse Your Lifestyle’s Financial Expert

Remember, if you don't use it, you lose it. I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Siobhan Record who has recently joined the team at cre8 wealth management as a financial planner.

The move, which was the biggest revenueraiser in the Budget, will create losers but no winners. His aim is to discourage small company owners from the practice of drawing dividends instead of salaries, thereby reducing their tax bills. However, the change will also impact on savers with investment portfolios who will, unfortunately, become collateral damage. A basic rate tax payer with £5,000 dividend income, who at present pays no tax on this, will have to pay £225. Higher rate tax payers and top rate taxpayers will face bills of £975 and £1,143 respectively, so quite a change. The good news is that with this year's ISA allowance now standing at £20,000, sheltering your investments by fully using ISAs has become even more important. If you have been smart enough to have made full use of your ISA allowances in the past, you could be sitting on a very tidy tax free pot which has just become even more useful.

Siobhan brings a wealth of knowledge with her and shares the same dedication to her clients that I do. She has a particular interest in helping clients dealing with divorce and I am sure she will add a great deal of value to the services offered at cre8 both now and going forward.

It might be worth noting that any cash ISAs you already have in place can be changed into stocks and shares ISAs but it is wise to take some advice to make sure that this is indeed appropriate for your personal circumstances. More than ever, the tax system with the many different allowances available has become more complex and difficult to navigate.

If you would like a free 30 minute meeting to discuss your own position, telephone Jo on 01562 745730 to book an appointment. If you’re not sure, have a look at what our clients say about us on our website: www. cre8wm.co.uk

Brindley Volvo personally serves the

Wolverhampton area at state-of-the-art facility In the UK, Volvo recorded sales of 9,710 cars in March, up 30 per cent over the same month last year and following a recent relocation to a new state-of-the-art dealership, Wolverhamptonbased Volvo dealer, Brindley Group, has also gone from strength to strength since its £1m move.

“As well as servicing improvements, our new Volvo facility now has the capacity to display 10 cars in the showroom, including the awardwinning 90 series and soon to be joined by the eagerly anticipated new XC60,” he continues. Revealed at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March, the new car replaces Volvo's highly successful original XC60, which in the nine years since its launch became the best-selling premium mid-sized SUV in Europe, with nearly a million units sold globally.

Opening its purpose-built 5,000 sq. ft. showroom over six months ago, Brindley Wolverhampton, now located on West Street, has since introduced the Volvo Retail Experience (VRE), the Swedish manufacturer’s latest corporate makeover and Volvo Personal Service (VPS) to the local area.

“Since our new facility opened six months ago, strong demand for the new 90 series cars remains an important factor in Brindley’s positive sales performance. The new XC60 SUV has created a huge impression among our customers who are all eager for its arrival at the dealership in a few months’ time,” adds Adams.

The new Volvo design focuses on space and design with Scandinavian-inspired architecture taking centre stage at the dealership, both inside and out and includes a brand new workshop environment, incorporating while you wait servicing and MOTs.

The new XC60 is loaded with advanced safety technology, including Steer Assist – a feature added to the ground-breaking City Safety system – and Oncoming Lane Mitigation, which uses Steer Assist to help mitigate head-on collisions, while Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) now uses Steer Assist functionality to reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions.

With diagnostics, repairs and MOT’s all carried out in one of our four state-of-the-art workshop bays, teams of Personal Service Technicians (PST) now work on cars as pairs rather than individually to allow for work to be carried out twice as fast, nearly halving customer wait times. This is part of Volvo’s ‘Personal Service’, which streamlines aftersales functions to improve workshop efficiency while delivering a much more personal service to customers via dedicated service technicians. “Following the roll-out of VPS at Brindley, our customers are already seeing the benefits this programme offers. With their wait times reducing dramatically, this is removing the inconvenience of having to wait around for long periods of time for their car, meaning they’ve able to get back out on the roads quicker,” comments Chris Adams, Operations Director for Brindley Garages.

For more information on the services available at Brindley, please contact the dealership on 01902 507663 or pop in to the West Street dealership.
