Board of Directors is pleased to recognize and honor the unselfish service of physicians who demonstrate sustained, exemplary service to medicine and community. A tradition of the Medical Association since 1985, the annual awards reflect a tribute of respect, recognition and appreciation on the part of SCMA member physicians.

Safeguarding the quality of medical care requires physicians to do much more than maintain excellent ethics and good will in the community. It depends on countless hours spent by individuals willing to make personal sacrifices. The commitment of these physicians ensures care for the underserved, helps lobby our legislators to create better medical law, and as with the 2017 and 2019 firestorms in Sonoma County, rises to the challenge during a time of crisis or great need.

Awards are also given to physicians for their contributions to SCMA’s magazine, Sonoma Medicine, and to a non-physician who made a significant contribution to the medical community. SCMA also acknowledges a local Practice Manager of the Year, recognizing the vital role practice managers play in the delivery of healthcare services.

IS THE BEST MEDICINE Los Angeles comedian Bobby Tessel joins the Awards Gala this year to help celebrate National Belly Laugh Day on Jan. 24—a day dedicated to acknowledging the great gifts and health benefits of laughter.

Bobby is one of the few comics to have performed on both The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Bobby also received unanimous YES votes on America’s Got Talent and has worked as a freelance writer for The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live.
