SNEAKHERHEADS: a book inspired by women and their love for sneakers.
Because sneaker collections are (for the most part) designed by men, the shoes inherently cater to men. The female market, although its improving, provides little diversity in product, size runs, colourways and overall a lack of female footwear designers. Growing up in the 90s and 00s, I noticed that street and sneaker culture was very much a male-dominated space. In advertising, the only time I would see women at the forefront was when they were posing half naked next to a pair or sneakers or used as juxtaposition wearing heels next to a man wearing sneakers. I constantly find myself inspired by confident, stylish and creative women on social platforms who are voicing their stories and opinions. So, why not translate this to sneakers? This body of work is intended to serve as inspiration and start a conversation about the ways in which women express themselves through their fashion choices.
