City Overview London  London is a mix of history, style, and culture  Many attractions: Royal parks, world-class art galleries, wood-clad pubs, ancient streets and architecture  The West End has a charming dining scene and designer shopping outlets  English capital’s museums and iconic black cabs and red double-decker buses  The city has more than 8 million people  The Shard is the tallest building in Western Europe redefining London’s skyline  The historic Tower of London and the London Bridges  London doesn’t just feel like the center of the world, it feels like the whole world in one city

City Overview Paris  The City of Light is home to beautiful architecture, art and the world’s finest restaurants  Everything revolves around food in Paris; the meals are never rushed and there’s always time for one more glass of wine  Monet’s masterpieces housed at Musee d’Orsay and the Mona Lisa at Louvre  Rich literature history at Les Duet Magots, the café frequented by Hemingway, Satre, Joyce and Brecht  Shop for fine English language books at Shakespeare and Company  Shop around Le Marais and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore

History and Contribution to the Fashion Industry London  London originally operated as a transit point in the fashion system exporting unfinished products like wool, metal and luxuries like fur  1740s- A flurry of social events of the aristocracy: balls, theatre visits, and court presentations offered incentives to entrepreneurs in the clothing trade  18th century- methods of tailoring developed  19th century- tailor-mades  Piccadilly and Regent Street offered a new concept of shopping as a leisure activity in the middle and upper classes  20th century- Dress became an act of rebellion

History and Contribution to the Fashion Industry Paris Paris has been the fashion capital of the Western world from the seventeenth century to the twenty-first century  1648- France emerges from the Thirty Years’ War as the largest, richest, and most powerful state in Europe  Louis XIV and other rules understood fashion as a weapon in establishing cultural dominance  Realized economic importance of textiles and clothing to power the state as a fashion leader  18th century- Wealthy foreigners travel to Paris to have their clothes made or seamstresses to copy the latest Paris fashions  19th century- Leadership of Paris in women’s fashion with the rise of haute couture  Late 19th century- Fashion evolved into confection and fashion turned into big business  Many fashion houses shut down during WWII  1980s and 1990s- Famous fashion brand revivals showed their collections in Paris

Currency/Economics/Politics London  Currency: o 1.00 GBP = 1.481820 USD o 0.674846 GBP = 1.00 USD  Economics: o As of 2013 the city of London had a total employment of 392,400 workers o London’s contribution to the UK's national income is estimated at is estimated at £48.7bn in 2013 (7.7 billion) o The financial services sector made a total tax contribution of £65.6bn in the tax year to the end of March 2014, representing almost 11.5% of total government tax receipts. This figure includes taxes paid, as well as taxes collected, by the sector o The financial services sector employs 1.1 million people, representing 3.7% of the UK’s total workforce o Financial services represent 63.7% of the city's total income, 17.9% of London's economy, and the financial services sector in the UK accounts for 7.9% of the total national income of Great Britain  Politics: o Greater London" comprises 32 London Boroughs and the historic City of London o Most local government functions are carried out by the London borough councils: they are responsible for education, housing, planning, highways, fire, social services, leisure and recreation, libraries, waste collection, waste disposal, and environmental health o Greater London has a second tier of local government: the Greater London Authority (GLA) o Created in 2000 in order to improve coordination between the boroughs and to give London a unified voice. It is headed by the Mayor of London and its work is scrutinized by the London Assembly o Currently the Lutfur Rahman party is challenging the Labor party in East End parliamentary constituencies

Currency/Economics/Politics Paris  Currency: o 1.00 EUR = 1.084926 USD o 0.921722 EUR = 1.00 USD  Economics: o The economy of Paris is comprised of high finance, banking, and luxury tourist goods o Government employees are numerous as France is a bureaucratic country o Economics minister Emmanuel Macron - a Socialist but also a former Rothschild banker - has pushed through some new measures to help the French economy improve o They will allow French shops to open up to 12 Sundays a year (instead of 5), and allow shops in key tourist locations, such as parts of Paris, to open 7/7 and up to midnight  Politics: o The city of Paris is headed by an elected mayor who is in charge of the police force, which is headed by the préfet, and works with the town halls of the 20 arrondissements of Paris o The Regional Council and the Economic and Social Committees govern any local problems o The most influential political parties are the Communist Party and the Socialist Party o The national government is a coalition government comprised of the various political parties

Conclusion “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”- St.Augustine · Paris is one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Strolling through the city, we will see one stunning vista after another, from the Eiffel Tower to the cafes, exploring the historic and fashion-conscious to arty side of Paris. · London is one of the coolest, modern cities in the world. With landmarks such as Westminister Abbey and Buckingham Palace, we will have the chance to enrich in the London culture with the theater and trendy shops, to relaxing in pubs and hopefully catching a glimpse of the royals. “Traveling- it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”- Ibn Batutta
