WORLD CINEMA Tuesday 15th January @ 8.00pm C’est La Vie! (Le Sens de la Fête)
France 2017 117mins French with subtitles Cert: Club Max is a veteran wedding planner who is thinking about selling on his business. For now, however, there’s something more pressing to worry about: organising a lavish wedding in a 17th century chateau. It’s no small task: there’s dozens of people to manage, unreliable electricity, a last-minute musician change, and an increasingly demanding groom. Soon, things start going very wrong indeed. Can Max and his team sort everything out without the guests noticing? The latest film from Untouchable directors Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano is a gloriously manic French comedy. It hits the ground running and barely takes a breath as wedding disaster after disaster unfolds. With largerthan-life characters and laugh-out-loud set pieces, C’est La Vie! is a delight. “An expertly assembled, tartly played and hugely enjoyable romp.” – The Hollywood Reporter “Magical... A ruthlessly-plotted breeze of ensemble good humour.” – Screen International Adm. €7 / €5 (concessions)

MUSICAL THEATRE Thursday 31st January @ 8.00pm
High Lonesome (Songs From The Heartland) Jack Lukeman & Patrick McCabe
A Lukeman/McCabe collaboration might best be described as old-style village hall vaudeville for the future. If one could conceive of a cottage fire being raked late at night as a scratchy phonograph playing Joyce and Count John Mc Cormack begins its revolutions somewhere afar in the regions of hyperspace, as the door is knocked and a lady selling scones with human eyes arrives in the rain, then perhaps they might find themselves coming close. Once, in an analysis of the songs of Bob Dylan, Rolling Stone journalist Greil Marcus spoke of the ‘old weird America’. This is the old weird, indomitable Celtic heart - Ulysses meets The Dandy and Oor Wullie. Or, if you like, The Carter Family on the moon. Lukeman and McCabe are friends and long-time collaborators, having toured the UK, USA and Ireland in the nineties. Now they are back with a wailing harmonica. Adm. €20

WORLD CINEMA Tuesday 9th April @ 8.00pm Puzzle
USA 2017 103mins English language Cert: 15A Puzzle is a closely observed portrait of Agnes, who has reached her early 40s without ever venturing far from home, family or the tight-knit immigrant community in which she was raised by her widowed father. That begins to change in a quietly dramatic fashion when she receives a jigsaw puzzle as a birthday gift and experiences the heady thrill of not only doing something she enjoys, but being very, very good at it. After years of concerning herself exclusively with the needs and wants of her husband Louie and sons Ziggy and Gabe, Agnes has found something that she wants to do. Stepping out of her domestic bubble to pursue her new hobby, she meets Robert, a wealthy, reclusive inventor who recognizes her talent and recruits her as his partner for an upcoming world jigsaw tournament... THEATRE Thursday 11th April @ 8.00pm Joxer Daly Esq.
Sean O’Casey’s playful scrounger from the classic Juno and The Paycock takes centre stage in this entertaining, funny and intriguing new play from the pen of Eddie Naughton (Inishfallen Fare Thee Well). With events that were to alter the course of Irish history as a backdrop, Joxer Daly Esq. charts an everyman journey from respectable member of The Foresters Association to a vagabond scraping by with only his wit as collateral. From the 1913 Lock Out, to the Rising - and the events of O’Casey’s classic The Plough and the Stars - to the birth of a new divided Nationalism, we see it all through the eyes of a survivor like no other. Joxer Daly is an ordinary person trying to navigate the difficult waters of Dublin in the period leading up to the birth of a Republic. Brilliantly performed by Phelim Drew, Joxer’s love of language, humour, literature and song, together with a drinker’s purple recollection, makes this a performance like no other. Thoroughly entertaing, a thought-provoking gander at one of Irish Literature’s most loveable chancers! “Drew’s powerhouse performance... Joxer never flew so high.” Sunday Independent Adm. €16 / €14 (concessions)

WORLD MUSIC Wednesday 8th May @ 8.00pm
Music Network presents De Temps Antan
The incredible French-Canadian folk super group De Temps Antan have captured the hearts of audiences across the globe with their stunning interpretations of time-honoured melodies from Quebec’s musical past. Driven by the stomping ‘tac-tica-tac’ of ‘les pieds’ (a type of clog), their rough-hewn sound is an utterly infectious mix of boundless energy and joie de vivre. The group’s live shows are dosed with catchy honkytonk tunes, uncontrolled laughter, and sudden, impromptu shifts in rhythm and harmony – so expect the unexpected! Three powerful vocals combine to create joyous harmonies; several of De Temps Antan’s songs also feature close-up call-and-response vocals that date back to the work songs of Quebec’s lumber camps. And did we mention the delightful fiddle of David Boulanger, the explosive accordion playing of Pierre-Luc Dupuis and the superb guitar accompaniment of Éric Beaudry? The music may be acoustic, but the results are electric! “World-class performers” – The Guardian “With their pedigree, you’d expect something a bit special - and they certainly deliver.” – The Living Tradition Adm. €17 / €14 (concessions)

VISUAL ART: GALLERY Friday 23rd November - Saturday 5th January Cléa van der Grijn - JUMP
Since 2008, Cléa van der Grijn’s work and practice is about unravelling the complexities associated around the culture of death, reconstructed memory and time. The exhibition consists of a series of new paintings by Cléa as well as an ambitious film work Written and Directed by Cléa and created with collaborators Joseph P. VISUAL ART: GALLERY Friday 11th January – Saturday 16th February Markus Davies – Beyond & Between
Markus Davies’ paintings are an abstracted, interpretive response to the built environment through which he travels. They are a personal evaluation of his daily surroundings, addressing the simple experience of the transitory moments he lives. His colours are chosen intuitively - often lifted and re-contextualised as he discovers them within daily life, and his distinct geometric compositions are informed by anything he encounters, from buildings and road signs to commercial packaging. Davies strives to capture the impressions and memories of existing in his everyday spaces. Developed from his understanding and experience of the urban landscape, his paintings combine a multitude of fragments of visual and emotional data and distill them into controlled, sensitive, beautiful objects. Markus’ work has been exhibited and published in Ireland and the UK. In one of his most recent projects he collaborated with 12 national and international artists in Dublin, raising awareness of disused spaces within our cities. Adm. Free Official opening on Friday 11th January at 7.30pm. All welcome.

VISUAL ART: GALLERY Friday 22nd February - Saturday 30th March Louise Peat – In-between worlds
Louise Peat’s current body of work examines how the development of the online social world is affecting identity and social behaviour. She focuses on communication and specially alludes to the way people today keep in touch by interacting through a screen - via social media and internet networks trying to perpetuate social bonds, relations and intimacy, and believes that there is a disconnect occurring. She expressly asks - are we losing meaningful connection within the process? Louise employs multiple approaches and strategies in her art practice and is open to an investigation through painting, drawing, print, installation, sound, and computer software to create and inform her work. This new body of work includes computer-generated drawings constructed in virtual spaces, scanned paintings and screen shots, which she makes physical through the medium of printingmaking. Louise Peat was born in Dublin where she lives and works. She has a MA in Fine Art in Painting from NCAD, has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and her work is held in many public and private collections. Adm. Free Official opening on Friday 22nd February at 7.30pm. All welcome.
VISUAL ART: GALLERY Friday 5th April – Saturday 11th May Nathalie Daoust – Korean Dreams
Photographer Nathalie Daoust’s Korean Dreams is a complex series that probes the unsettling vacuity of North Korea. The images reveal a country that seems to exist outside of time, as a carefully choreographed mirage. Daoust has spent much of her career exploring the chimeric world of fantasy: the hidden desires and urges that compel people to escape from reality. Here, she explores this escapist impulse not as an individual choice, but as a way of life forced upon an entire nation. Daoust deliberately obscures her photographs during the development stage, as the layers of film are peeled off, the images are stifled until the facts become ‘lost’ in the process and a sense of detachment from reality is revealed. The photographs, like the North Korea people, are manipulated until the underlying truth is all but a blur. The resultant pictures speak to North Korean society, of missing information and truth concealed. Nathalie Daoust is a Canadian photographer and contemporary artist. She first broke onto the scene in 1997, and her conceptual projects that have taken her all over the world, both thematically and through her many exhibitions. Adm: Free Official opening on Friday 15th April at 7.30pm. All welcome.
