Pinderfields Hospital Keep Lifecycles On Track With Yeoman Shield As part of their lifecycle programme, Engie in conjunction with Consort Healthcare and Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust engaged with Yeoman Shield to provide a solution to the continual damage being caused to door frames throughout the Pinderfields Hospital, the continual repair proving to be a drain on the maintenance budgets. Door frames are inevitably vulnerable to wear and tear caused by the everyday activity on a busy site. When damaged the door frames not only look unattractive, detracting from the clean and pristine environment that The Pinderfields Facilities management team work hard to maintain, but splinters, dents and crevices caused as a result of the damage, make the frame work hard to clean leading to a potential build-up of dirt and bacteria. Post formed Yeoman Shield angles, to the required dimensions, were fabricated from 2.0mm thick FalmouthEx material, for fitting to the existing timber door jambs. Where necessary a timber infill piece was manufactured to fill any gaps between the frame and angle so providing extra support to the internal angle. Supplied in Dusty Grey to complement the existing décor, the formed angle protectors were installed at 1250mm high by Yeoman Shield’s directly employed fixing operatives. www.yeomanshield.com
Patient Safety Key As Harrogate Hospital Turns To Crittall Fendor Cygnet Hospital Harrogate is a longestablished mental health hospital that provides support and treatment for both NHS and privately funded patients. A recent decision to replace and upgrade the windows led to the specification of specialist units by Crittall Fendor, experts in high security fenestration. The CleanVent is designed to maintain security while being cleaned and also provides no projection to which a ligature can be fixed, a particular consideration where patients being cared for may have a predilection to self-harm. The robust window is available in steel, aluminium or a hybrid of both materials. Aluminium CleanVents were specified except for the front elevation of the building where taller, narrower steelaluminium SwingVents were used. www.crittall-fendor.co.uk

Cork Housing Development Balances Airtightness With Variable Vapour Control A brand new housing development in County Cork Ireland is to maximise airtightness and energy efficiency of the homes whilst ensuring the protection of the building fabric with the introduction of a high-performance variable-permeability vapour control layer from the A. Proctor Group. The Fionn Laoi development at Ballincollig, Co. Cork will comprise of 80 homes. Procheck Adapt has been specifically designed to protect the building fabric from the potential risks of condensation, whilst serving as a highly effective airtight barrier. Thanks to its unique design the membrane offers variable permeability which adapts to changes in humidity levels and allows the structure to dry out in the summer and while protecting it from moisture overload in the winter. This is possible because the membrane adapts its vapour resistance to the environment i.e. vapour tight in the winter and vapour open in the summer. www.proctorgroup.com
May The Force Be With You - MOD Chooses Rinnai Hot Water For Shower Blocks Rinnai, the UK leader in hot water systems, has recently completed an installation of 20 HDC 1500i units on shower blocks at an MoD barracks. LPG is the onsite fuel for all the Rinnai systems. Comprehensive site surveys were completed between Rinnai and the services provider and designs for the systems were based on using two of what was the then plant rooms which housed two extremely large calorifiers. Each plant room was re-engineered with the installation of 10 high performance, high efficiency Rinnai HDC1500i (59.5kW) continuous flow, instantaneous water heaters per plant room. Each plant room of 10 units were installed in ‘banks’ of five units and set with the Rinnai (MECS) Manifold Electronic Controls. This intelligent energy optimising system brings additional water levels into operation only when required, meaning energy is only used when needed. The MECS system also ensures system longevity as it ensures that each water heater in the bank is used for the same period of time over its life cycle guaranteeing unnecessary wear and even usage. www.rinnaiuk.com
