Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord." – Luke 2:10-11 it interesting that God's angelic announcement of Christmas begins with, "Do not be afraid"? What do fear and Christmas have in common? Based on people's Christmas anxieties, plenty!

December fills many with depression. Some are overwhelmed by what their Christmas

celebration should feel like, look like, even sound like. Thoughts of creating the perfect Christmas celebration fill many with stress.

Some dread Christmas due to money issues and the pressure to spend more than they can afford. Other have lost loved ones, making Christmas a painful trigger of past memories and missed loved ones. There is

pressure to attend Christmas gatherings. As anxieties grow, so do shame, guilt and the gaping hole of depression.

If you've ever been fearful or anxious at Christmas, you're in good company. Mary, Joseph and the shepherds all felt fears.

No warm, safe, sterile birthing suite or medical team would help Mary give birth to her first child. Instead she faced the stress of childbirth with only Joseph to help her.

CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS IS HERE!!!

Christmas for Kids is back with more fun for this Christmas season. Come and enjoy some good Christian fun with your children (ages 3-12) on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:30am - 12:30pm. You and your children will hear the Christmas story, sing Christmas carols, frost Christmas cookies, create some festive crafts and enjoy a nutritious lunch! As always, parent are welcome and encouraged to bond with your children during this event.

The shepherds were filled with fears too. "Terrified" described their reaction to a sky full of angels. They might have wondered, "Did God send the angels to punish us?"

God Knows Your Fears God knows your fears. That's why the announcement of Christmas begins with an amazing command, "Do not be afraid!" This is good news for you! God has come in the flesh to erase all your fears!

Jesus Will Never Leave You Ever fear not measuring up? Jesus came to forgive you from all your past faults or present failures. Anxious over a life situation? God says, "Do not be afraid!"

You don't have to do life on your own.

God came at Christmas to prove his love and to assure you, "Never will I leave you or forsake you!"

Christmas Gifts for Mexican Children Up-Date: Just to let you know that the Christmas gifts for the WELS Mission to the Children (Arizona) for distribution to Sonora, was a success. We received over 25 gifts and $105 in monetary funds. We thank our members for your generosity. We also thank several of our prospects who visited us and poured out their hearts and gave gifts to this ministry too. God is so good!

Gifts for Kids Program Continues: We are still collecting gifts for our annual Gifts for Kids Program. The Giving Tree is posted on the window of the library. Please pick an ornament with a child’s age on it, purchase a gift, wrap the gift and replace the ornament on the gift and return it to the large box in the church lobby. Please describe the gifts on the package if you please.

Deadline is Sunday, December, 18th. Thank you for helping to make Christmas a little bit better for the children of the community.

Area Block Watch FYI: We will be hosting an area wide Block Watch on Wednesday, February 22 nd at 6:30pm. This is somewhat different than our regular block watch because it includes people from other areas of The Garden Community (that’s what our District 6 is referred to). I’m sure Alderman, Terry Witkowski will be present and maybe the mayor as well. So mark your calendar and come and help us PR this event.

How does our organization receive the donations?

Each quarter, the AmazonSmile Foundation makes donations to eligible charitable organizations by electronic funds transfer. Donations will be transferred approximately 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter. To account for Product returns, a portion of the quarterly donations will be withheld until the next donation cycle, subject to any reduction due to returns from prior quarters.

This special service is designed around the hymn From Heaven Above to Earth I Come. Since this is the year to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, it is a great year to recall Martin Luther’s famous hymn (CW38). The service will include actual short quotes from Martin Luther and his Christmas sermon which tells the Christmas message as found in Luke chapter 2. Also included will be favorite Christmas carols, Christmas scripture readings, candlelight songs, and choir.

Greetings, It is with great joy and excitement that I announce an “every member” class beginning in January 2017. We will meet after service on Thursday evenings, and Sunday after service. I promise that each class will be one hour or less in length, and will cover the topics of “Worship and Stewardship” and how we might respond to both. There will be sign up sheets and a booklet to read closer to class time in January. (Please take note: Members who do not sign up and attend a meeting will then be contacted for a ‘one on one’ home or office meeting.) The class is entitled: “Lavished in love, and Our Response to that Love”.

The class will be led by Rich Hofmeister. Parents, you are urged to bring your children as well. They would do well to join their parents in learning how they too have opportunities to show God their love, in service to Him and to one another. We will meet in the 7 & 8th grade room, and please note that there is a limit of 30 people per class so please put the number of people in your family group that will be attending.

I look forward to meeting and greeting each one of you at these meetings.

We all are one in missions, we all are one in call...

The students of Word of Life support a mission each quarter. The second quarter is the Kid’s Care project that LWMS sponsors and is combined with many other Sunday Schools and other Lutheran elementary schools over the course of the year. Our Word of Life students have been participating for many years. Often the total monies given exceed $30,000. It feels good to feel a part of that big total.

This year LWMS has chosen Family Ministry for Outreach.

The new project for 2016-2017 focuses on Family Ministry for Outreach. Every mission Congregation hopes to attract people from the community and ultimately serve their spiritual needs. All over the nation family ministry programs like “Mommy and Me” are being developed to specifically welcome parents/caregivers and their young children to congregation-based social gatherings. These programs foster friendships, communication skills, positive family relationships, and a possible bridge into a church home. When the programs are integrated with the love of Jesus and the truths of God’s Word, families are led to Christ who supplies their greatest need: forgiveness of sins, salvation, and eternal life.

There are mission churches in many states that utilize the Family ministry for Outreach. Colorado, Texas, Carolinas and Wisconsin. Each congregation decides what will work for them. Some have once a month, some every week. It is a fun way for caregivers to get out and socialize with others and also give their children the opportunity to learn with the comfort of their loved ones next to them and in the safety of a loving church. Many people come to the church for the first time seeking the Mommy and Me program and stay once they learn the love Christ has for them.

Check out the bulletin board in the school hallway to see out how the students are doing with their offerings.

Christmas for Kids is back with more fun for this Christmas season. Come and enjoy some good Christian fun with your children (ages 3-12) on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:30am - 12:30pm. You and your children will hear the Christmas story, sing Christmas carols, frost Christmas cookies, create some festive crafts and enjoy a nutritious lunch! As always, parent are welcome and encouraged to bond with your children during this event.
