Welcome to Start-Up Night Africa in The Hague

A warm welcome to Start-Up Night Africa, the fifth event of its kind and our first here in The Netherlands. It is part of Lionesses of Africa’s ‘Access to Markets and Investment Programme,’ which aims to connect Africa’s high-growth women entrepreneurs to international markets and investment opportunities.

As we gather here in the vibrant city of The Hague, the city of Peace and Justice, known for its rich cultural diversity and change-making spirit, we showcase and celebrate the inspiring stories of African women-owned start-ups that are shaping industries, disrupting norms, and driving sustainable change. Carmen Stevens Wines Pty Ltd is a multi-award winning, black-and-womanowned winery creating impact in South Africa. Founder, Carmen Stevens, is the first black person accepted to study winemaking in South Africa and qualified in 1995 as South Africa's first black winemaker. In 2019 Carmen registered the first 100% black-and-woman-owned winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa, and was awarded South Africa's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017 and 2019. Venue is easily accessible via public transportation. Nieuwspoort is walking distance from CS The Hague (Anna van Buerenplein exit).

Cycling Route

Please note: due to safety measures bicycles may not be parked in the direct vicinity of the House of Representatives. One option is the bicycle parking strip along the Bezuidenhoutseweg across from Coolblue (Babylon). Or in the CS The Hague bicycle parking.
