WHY LIVING BY THE WATER IS HEALTHY
There is something magical about living near the water. This could be the ocean with lapping waves, a rolling river, or a serene and reflective lake. Living near a body of water affords you a lot more than views and open space. Living by the water can provide a healthier lifestyle.
Relaxation and Reduced Stress Water can have an extremely relaxing effect on your body. The sound of gently moving water provides soothing background noise in spas. This is also true of actual water environments that produce similar peaceful sounds.
Since natural bodies of water attract wildlife, you also get the added benefit of the sounds of nature. This includes birds, frogs, and insects. These sounds of nature can promote restful sleep resulting in less stress.
Cleaner Air and Better Mood Science has shown that saltwater air has more negative ions than urban air. It is thought that negative ions can balance serotonin levels resulting in a better mood. Breathing in fresh air can also improve lung and brain function. It can make you feel more energetic and alert.
Because lakes, oceans, and rivers provide open space, there is more oxygen and less pollution available for your body to absorb. Breathing in clean, fresh air is known to fight damaging free radicals. Too many free radicals can speed up the aging process in your body.
Sunshine and Vitamin D If you are fortunate to live near water in a predominantly sunny area, you will benefit from the absorption of vitamin D from the sun’s rays. Not getting enough sunshine can result in depression and possibly osteoporosis.
You may have heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a condition that causes loss of energy and depression in the absence of adequate daylight. Living near water offers plenty of daylight, including that which is reflected off the surface of the water.
Thank You!
