SITE PLAN LOCATION PLAN This Co age was requested by the Client to be treated as an extension of their home for visi ng guests. The co age was therefore designed as a mini replica of the already exis ng Pearson Co age, with its gable like nature, and materiality.

In the Summer of 2013, I organized a group of Architecture University Students to help take a beau ful derelict Grade II* listed medieval house located in Totnes, a small town in England, towards being a living farmhouse, using natural materials. I volunteered my skills in hands on conserva on work: making lime mortars, clay plastering and cob repairs, stonework and roof construc on. Basic training was given by a conserva on Architect, and a skilled carpenter.

The Cabilla Manor Opera House project involved designing an Opera House without the use of any fossil fuels within its natural landscape. This design greets its users with a descending candle lit path which leads them down to the river, across the bridge to the Main Entrance of the Opera House. This entrance acts as a glass light box at night, resembling a beacon by which the users are guided towards. The “No Fossil Fuels” limita on presented many challenges, however with the given landscape, the Opera House structure was designed with the use of its surrounding resources and tradi onal construc on methods. Key Feature: The Auditorium Hall. The walls are constructed with log ends thick enough for providing its own insula on and weight for structural loads. The walls also have uneven surfaces along the sides for their Acous c purposes and wholes in the centres of log ends in the back wall for Absorp on. C A B I L L A M A N O R O P E R A H O U S E NO FOSSIL FUELS CONCEPT: Bending with the Contours. Crea ng a journey through the landscape and across the river while connec ng this journey with the proposed design. Producing a theatrical experience from the arrival point, to the entrance of the Opera House.
PROCESS: A er analyzing the site, sketch models were carried out in order to figure out the best way to situate the proposed design in rela on to its context and different uses.
DESIGN: The structure involves a gable roofed trio design placed in a ‘fanned out’ fashion and built with tradi onal techniques based on the no fossil fuel limita ons.
The Cabilla Manor Co age Project focused on designing a vaca on Co age Home for the owners of Cabilla Manor to rent out to visi ng guests. This co age was designed with no fossil fuels. This project was treated more as a restora on project within the exis ng Tu on Ruin. This, as well as the limita ons ins lled, presented many challenges which were addressed accordingly.
