from 1 to 7 May 2023.

Over 1000 bikers from all over Australia and beyond will converge in Lismore to share their passion for motorcycles and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded individuals.

The event will take place over six action-packed days, with a variety of activities and events planned to keep everyone entertained. The Lismore Showgrounds and Oakes Oval have been specially prepared to accommodate the large number of visitors expected, and they will be the primary venues for the rally.

One of the most exciting highlights of the event will be the Grand Parade of bikes, which will take place on Saturday, 6 May at 9am. This is a fantastic opportunity to see a stunning display of motorcycles, with participants proudly showing off their bikes. The parade will wind its way through the streets of Lismore, with crowds lining the route to cheer on the riders and enjoy the spectacle.

The parade will start at the airport in South Lismore and finish on Magellan Street next to Oakes Oval. The full route can be found below:

USING KITCHEN CADDIES & LINERS FOR FOOD SCRAPS

Did you know that about 23% of what goes in our landfill bins in urban and village areas is organic material, mostly food?

We want that material in your organics bin so it can be recycled into compost! The best way to get these food scraps from your home to your wheelie bin is by using a kitchen caddy.

While you can buy a purpose-made kitchen caddy, you can also reuse or recycle an existing container like a:

• Glass coffee jar

• Ice cream, yoghurt or feta container

• Old Tupperware container

• Stainless steel cooking pot

Labels on liners can be confusing!

If using a liner, please only use ones that are labelled as compostable under the Australian Standard AS 4736 with this seedling logo. Manufacturers often use the terms ‘degradable’ or ‘biodegradable’, but the fact is these are NOT compostable and CANNOT be placed in your green organics bin.

You can purchase kitchen caddies for $8 and a roll of Compost-a-Pak bin liners for $6.50 (both at cost price) from our Corporate Centre in Goonellabah or the Revolve Shop at Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre.

Byte Wise by Questacon

There are only two weeks left to experience the exciting Questacon Byte Wise exhibition at the Lismore Pop-Up Library and Goonellabah Library. Don't miss out on this interactive and educational showcase, which ends on Friday, 28 April.

With 24 revolving exhibitions from the National Science and Technology Centre, Byte Wise offers a range of hands-on challenges drawn from mathematics and computer science. While the exhibits are targeted at students aged between 10 and 15 years, visitors of all ages can enjoy this unique and engaging exhibition.

Collect a Questacon Passport from the library and complete all 24 ByteWise Questacon activities located in Lismore, Goonellabah, Lennox Head, and Tweed Head Libraries. Mark each activity off in your passport and submit the completed passport to library staff by 5pm on 28 April to enter the Gravitrax STEM starter kit draw. The winner will be drawn randomly and notified on 1 May.

Byte Wise is the perfect school holiday activity, providing fun and educational entertainment for the whole family. If you are checking out the exhibition at the Lismore Pop-Up library, why not take a leisurely stroll around the CBD and see what else you can discover?

‘OUR PLACE, OUR SPECIES’ DOCUMENTARY LAUNCH AT LISMORE QUAD

Free event. Friday, 21 April at 5pm.

The Quad invites you to share in the debut and exclusive outdoor screening of the documentary, Our Place, Our Species, an inspiring and beautiful visual journey into the world of native plants and their caretakers in the Bundjalung region.

The screening of this documentary will be paired with musical performances as well as dances by the indigenous dance group Nini Nahri Gari. An Elders space will be provided.

Lismore Quad has partnered with Hart Services to provide a free, wheelchair accessible shuttle bus service from Goonellabah and Gundarimba to The Quad. For pick up from your home address or if you require wheelchair accessible transport, you will need to book by Wednesday, 19 April. To book call Hart Services on 6628 0127.

At the February council meeting, Council agreed to support changes to the Lismore Local Environmental Plan (LEP) that aim to facilitate agritourism.

• Accept the Tender from Civil Contractors (Aust) No. 1 trading as Winslow, for Airport Run Up Bay and Plane Parking Area.

The proposed changes aim to increase flexibility for tourism activities in rural areas, while also making sure that current agricultural uses and the overall environment are not negatively impacted.

The proposed changes aim to increase the number of bedrooms allowed for farm stay accommodation, allow rural tourism development from a classified road with consent, address amenity concerns, ensure the small scale of farm experience premises, and eliminate inconsistencies between the LEP and State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes).

The planning proposal only affects land where farm stay accommodation is permissible with consent and land zoned RU1.

PROPOSED ROAD CLOSURE

To help guide agritourism use, Council has also created a Rural and Nature-Based Tourism Development Control Plan (DCP).

SECTION 38B OF ROADS ACT 1993

Notice is given that Lismore City Council proposes to close part of E.J. OLLEY Road which dissects property known as 1224 Cawongla Road, LARNOOK (being Lot 52 DP1268568).

Upon closure of the road, Council intends to sell the land to the adjoining landowner.

The proposed changes to the LEP and the Rural and Nature-Based Tourism DCP are on exhibition until 15 May on Council’s Your Say website, yoursay.lismore.nsw.gov.au.

Any person can make submission to the Property Officer by 16 May 2023.

INDUSTRY BRIEFING FOR ROAD AND BRIDGES FLOOD-RESTORATION WORKS

Local businesses and experienced organisations are invited to attend an industry briefing and networking session hosted by Lismore City Council.

The briefing is part of the selection process to appoint a Managing Contractor to deliver floodrestoration works on our roads and bridges following the significant damage caused by the February 2022 natural disaster.

The Industry Briefing at 10am on Monday, 15 May, is a milestone in Lismore’s recovery. After extensive emergency road works, the next crucial stage of the rebuild requires detailed design, specialist contractors, and project management expertise to deliver an unprecedented volume of work.

The briefing provides an opportunity for local suppliers to form relationships with some of the industry’s most experienced companies. While attendance is not mandatory to submit a tender, it is encouraged, as important information will be shared about the project before the tender is advertised. Following the briefing, attendees will enjoy light refreshments and networking opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for local suppliers to connect with potential clients and participate in a project that could have significant benefits for their business.

The event will take place on Monday, 15 May, at 10am at Southern Cross University, Lismore.
