In base alla sua esperienza, l’architettura può avere un ruolo nell’accompagnare e sostenere le persone che si trovano ad affrontare una fase dolorosa e difficile della loro vita?
Based on your experience, do you think architecture can play a supporting and sustaining role for people living through a painful and difficult stage of their life?
BT - Lavorare per il progetto del Kálida Sant Pau Centre mi ha portato a riflettere profondamente su come l’architettura possa e debba impegnarsi a contribuire al benessere, inteso come “stare bene”, delle persone; questo è diventato per me un tema centrale, che ho poi trasposto anche in tutti gli altri miei lavori, a qualunque scala. Si tratta tra l’altro di un tema estremamente attuale; la pandemia ha costretto tutti noi a confrontarci e relazionarci in modo molto forte con le nostre abitazioni, rendendoci molto più coscienti di quanto sia importante il comfort degli spazi in cui viviamo, di quanto sia importante avere a disposizione spazi ben aerati, ben illuminati, realizzati con materiali piacevoli alla vista e al tatto. Sulla scia dell’esperienza del lockdown abbiamo poi rivalutato anche il tema degli spazi pubblici, che ci siamo ritrovati a sognare e desiderare.
BT - Working on the Kálida Sant Pau Centre project prompted me to think deeply about how architecture can and should contribute to people’s wellbeing. This idea became central to my thoughts and has informed all my other architectural projects at every scale since. Moreover, wellbeing through architecture is now an extremely topical idea. The pandemic has forced all of us to look afresh at how we relate to our homes, for we have become keenly conscious of the importance of having living spaces that are comfortable, wellventilated, well-lit and built out of materials that are pleasing to eye and touch. In the aftermath of our lockdown experience, we have begun to rethink public spaces and dream about how they might be made conducive to our desires.
