WRITING WORKSHOPS Throughout Portland Book Festival, Literary Arts offers writing workshops taught by local and national writers. Visit literary-arts.org/PBF for more information and registration details.
ONLINE WRITING WORKSHOPS These workshops are conducted on Zoom and are for adults 18 and older. Register at literary-arts.org/write. Workshops are limited to ten students and tuition is $80; webinars are limited to forty students and tuition is $50–$75.
IN-PERSON WRITING WORKSHOPS On Saturday, November 13, Literary Arts will offer two in-person writing classes. These classes are limited to seven students and will take place at Literary Arts, 925 SW Washington St. (walking distance from the Festival venues). All attendees must provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of class.

GENERAL FESTIVAL INFO EVENT ENTRY INFO A Festival pass admits you to all in-person Festival events, with the exception of the Louise Erdrich event, which requires a book purchase for entry. We encourage you to purchase and pick up your passes in advance. The 2021 Festival will be reduced capacity and may sell out. Advance passes and information available at literary-arts.org/PBF. Entry to and seating at Festival events is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and standing in line does NOT guarantee entry to any specific event even with Festival pass. Plan to arrive early to your desired events. Saving seats is not permitted. All rooms will be cleared between events. If your desired event is at capacity, you can check out a different discussion, find a pop-up reading, explore the Portland Art Museum, or take a break at the food carts.

COVID-19 POLICY All ticket holders, regardless of age, are required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result (taken within 72 hours of event date) from a healthcare provider for entry into the Festival. Attendees may be required to show proof of vaccination or negative test results when entering indoor venues even if previously shown at the box office tent or picking up advance passes. “Fully vaccinated” means that ticket holders have received their final vaccination dose of either the two-dose regimen of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of Johnson & Johnson at least 14 days before the Festival date. Also, in accordance with current state and local guidelines, face masks are required. Masks must completely cover the nose and mouth. Gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable. If wearing a face mask that does not comply with policy, we will provide a face mask for patrons. Masks must be worn at all times except while eating or drinking for brief periods. Prolonged periods of mask removal are not permitted for eating or drinking at indoor venues—masks must be worn between bites and sips.

Portland Book Festival brings writers and readers of all ages together to celebrate a shared passion for books. This daylong celebration features author events, readings, workshops, book fair, and local food. Delve Readers Seminars cultivates community around the shared experience of reading. By gathering around books, we engage in dialogues with authors we love, and artists who show us new perspectives. The Archive Project Radio Show and Podcast features the most sought-after recordings from our Portland Arts & Lectures series, the Portland Book Festival, and other community events. Each week, new episodes are available to stream for free. Episodes are broadcast weekly on OPB Radio, Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m. OPB Radio Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m., on our website at literary-arts.org/ archive, or wherever you get your podcasts.
SUPPORT WRITERS: Programs for Writers supports, promotes, and celebrates Oregon’s writers and publishers. In addition to the Oregon Book Awards and Fellowships for emerging and established writers, the program also offers writing classes, free literary events, and produces the Oregon Book Awards Author Tour, which connects writers and readers throughout the state. In 2020, we awarded 150 Oregon writers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic emergency funds of $1,000 each, with priority given to BIPOC writers.
INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION: Youth Programs inspires public high school students to write, publish, and perform their own creative writing. Writers in the Schools residencies bring working writers into classrooms. Students to the Schnitz gives young people access to great books and influential authors. The College Essay Echange pairs mentors with college applicants. And the annual Verselandia! Youth Slam Poetry Championship showcases high school spoken word artists.
