PROGRAMME INTRODUCTION Welcome to adult learning at Little Angel Theatre. Throughout the year we offer a range of training for professionals at different stages in their career development. Some courses require existing puppetry skills and some are open to beginners and those working in associated creative industries, for example theatre, animation and film. Our training opportunities are also useful for teachers, workshop leaders, support workers and therapists. SHORT COURSES PUPPET CONSTRUCTION COURSE WITH PETER O’ROURKE
Learn how to make a Bunraku-style puppet from this Master Puppet Designer and Maker. This course is not about aesthetics but considers the puppet as a mechanism. You will work from a prototype specially designed to teach the ergonomics of puppet-making and with the aid of templates you will build your own copy. Monday 19–Friday 23 September, 10am–6pm daily / Little Angel Theatre Workshop / £400 (£350 conc) for 5 days
INSET FOR TEACHERS: IN YOUR SHOES – PUPPETRY AND EMPATHY WITH POLLY BEESTONE
This informative session will teach you how to create a puppet suitable for making with children and young people in a classroom setting, using basic materials with a focus on collaborative group work. We will teach you techniques for using the puppets in the classroom focusing on exploring character, empathy and issue-based stories/themes. Thursday 6 October, 4.15–6.30pm / £35 (£25 conc)
LISTENING TO THE MATERIAL: DEVISING WITH OBJECTS WITH RENE BAKER
A practical introduction to a method of devising visual theatre that takes the object as a starting point. Learn how to use materials to generate images and theatrical moments, discover the object’s poetic and cultural

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS WITH SAMANTHA LANE
Explore the devising process of Samantha Lane, Artistic Director of Little Angel Theatre and director of Let’s Fly and Me.... What tasks does she give to stimulate improvisation and character development? What stages are involved in making interactive storytelling for children? Perfect for anyone interested in learning more about the technique of one-person storytelling in a theatre setting. Sunday 6 November, 10am–5pm / £55 (£45 conc)
AN INTRODUCTION TO PUPPETRY PERFORMANCE WITH OLIVER SMART A crash course for total beginners. Discover the essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects to life with movement and emotion. The session will include learning about puppet life, breath and focus. An entertaining and comprehensive introduction to the art of the puppeteer and a springboard to the world of professional development. Sunday 20 November, 10am–5pm / £85 (£55 conc)
MARIONETTE CARVING COURSE WITH JOHN ROBERTS
Learn marionette carving from this Master Puppeteer. You will design your own puppet, and then carve, joint and assemble it. If there is time, you will make a control and string the puppet. You could aim to make a simple complete puppet, or you can work at a more leisurely pace
and do the finishing touches at a later date. Monday 16–Saturday 21 January, 10am–6pm daily / Little Angel Theatre Workshop / £480 (£430 conc) for 6 days
MARIONETTE PUPPET SURGERY WITH JOHN ROBERTS

Book an appointment with Doctor John to remedy your marionette maladies! A great opportunity to re-carve that hand that broke 3 years ago or to put the strings on that puppet that you never quite finished. Slots can be booked by the day. The week will sell out quickly so please try to make an accurate
guestimation of how many days you will need. This is not a course for people who want to carve from scratch, but an opportunity to finish puppets that you have already started, or perhaps one you started making with John in previous courses. Monday 23–Friday 27 January, 10am–6pm daily / Little Angel Theatre Workshop / £80 (£70 conc) per day / bookings of more than one day must be on consecutive days, max 3 days per person / telephone bookings only
SHADOW AND LIGHT WITH STEVE TIPLADY
There is more to shadows than shadow puppets. Explore the world of shadows through a variety of different techniques and media, using overhead projectors, L.E.Ds and special shadow lights. A rare opportunity to work with this master shadow maker and Little Angel Theatre Associate Artist. Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 January 2017, 10am–5pm daily / £110 (£95 conc) for 2 days
