About

Welcome to SUSPENSE London Puppetry Festival 2013. This is only the third incarnation of SUSPENSE, which is produced biennially by Little Angel Theatre, but in a short time it has become one of the leading theatre festivals in the UK. SUSPENSE showcases some of the best international and UK puppetry work for adults, exploding the myth that puppetry is just for kids. This year, Little Angel Theatre is delighted to present our own production of Macbeth as a pivotal focus for the 2013 festival. International work centres on major influencers on European puppetry including the challenging DudaPaiva Company (Netherlands), contemporary balloon puppeteers El Retrete de Dorian Gray (Spain), and the renowned Compagnie Philippe Genty (France). Alongside these companies we have some of the best UK artists including Blind Summit, Invisible Thread, Horse + Bamboo and Pickled Image. We also have a dedicated theatre studio for emerging companies at the Pleasance StageSpace. As ever, there

is an extensive training and participation programme complementing the performances on offer including lectures, workshops, symposia and masterclasses, suitable for every level of experience. This year we are delighted to welcome three new venues – Battersea Arts Centre, King’s Head Theatre, and the Actors Centre & Tristan Bates Theatre – alongside eight venues returning to SUSPENSE. Puppetry is now being recognised as a sophisticated artform which is having a protean impact on theatre practice. SUSPENSE is here to demonstrate that with a passion.
