NEW CONSTRUCTION
SANTA MONICA COLLEGE: ARTS
Santa Monica, CA 31,877 sf
Est. Completion 2024
COMPLEX
The success of this project started with the strong partnership among the A/E team and alignment with the College’s culture of diversity and equity. The collaborative process between Little (Architect of Record), Grimshaw (Design Partner), College leadership, the stakeholders, Board of Trustees and the community is yielding a complex that is welcoming and equitable for the students, faculty, staff and the arts community. Separated into three rectangular volumes connected by a central covered patio and several walkways, the facility bolsters a visionary take on the importance of the arts while aiming to promote experimentation across disciplines.
NEW
ORANGE COAST COLLEGE: KINESIOLOGY AND ATHLETICS COMPLEX
Costa Mesa, CA 113,000 sf Completed Fall 2020
Reflecting “movement”, a key characteristic of both kinesiology and athletics, the design of this stateof-the-art complex will help revitalize the campus of one of the nation’s largest community colleges. The new Kinesiology and Athletics Complex provides an expanded, modernized space for a wide variety of programs, including physical education, athletics, sports medicine, adapted physical education, and kinesiology studies. The most significant component is a new regulation-size pool for competitions and instructional classes that will allow the College to accommodate more community programs.
NEW CONSTRUCTION
MIRACOSTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: STUDENT SERVICES & ADMINISTRATION
Cardiff, CA 10,200 sf Est. Completion 2021
Replacing an existing administration building on the Miracosta Community College San Elijo campus, this new facility consolidates all student services operations under one roof and provides a new high-tech, flexible multipurpose room to host lectures, board meetings and community events. From the very beginning, the design team formed a strategic partnership with stakeholders, working to develop the primary vision for the building: to become a gateway to the campus and beacon to the community, welcoming visitors and students, while attracting enrollment. The site design includes an intimate outdoor courtyard to support student gatherings and study sessions while an art walk features student murals on interchangable panels.
CRAFTON HILLS COLLEGE: CANYON HALL
Yucaipa, CA 45,000 sf Completed 2017
Capitalizing on its site overlooking a steep valley, the design of this LEED Silver Certified science building offers breathtaking views of the scenery while allowing daylight into the building and its laboratory spaces. Acting as a“connector” between the College’s existing campus and a newer campus development, Canyon Hall uses glass corridors to provide transparency, allowing passers-by to observe the learning and teaching of science as it occurs. The building houses teaching laboratories for the College’s courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Biology and Microbiology, plus laboratory and building support spaces. It also includes an additional adjacent wing for lecture halls, faculty offices and lab tech offices.
GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE: STUDENT SERVICES
Glendale, CA 94,224 sf
Completed 2018
The primary mission of all educational institutions is learning. Glendale Community College recognizes the many activities and programs outside of the classroom that enhance the learning process. In support of this learning, the College has established numerous student services to help students move toward the attainment of their goals. This new three-story.
LEED Silver Certified building includes lecture classrooms, open computer lab, creative writing/speech labs, anthropology lab, culinary arts food service program, faculty offices, and one-stop student services.

WAYFINDING
MOORPARK COLLEGE: SIGNAGE & WAYFINDING
Moorpark, CA Campus-wide Est. Completion 2021
Understanding of the importance of proper planning to achieve effective wayfinding, Moorpark College requested Little, in association with Dawa, Inc., to analyze, plan and design an exterior wayfinding program for its campus. The team also designed the main monument signs, with embedded LED display for visual communication.
GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE: VERDUGO GYMNASIUM EXPANSION
Glendale, CA 55,333 sf
Est. Completion 2021
This gymnasium expansion involves a seismic upgrade to half of the existing building and demolition/new construction to the second-half. The early collaboration with the College’s stakeholders and the multidisciplinary design team, composed of Little’s in-house architecture, structural engineering, land development (civil engineering and landscape architecture), LEED specialists, and digital animation/visualization teams, have allowed this project to be a success from the very beginning. This project includes extensive site development, including extending utilities, creating an entry plaza that traverses a 16 foot difference in topography, an amphitheater, and outdoor teaching areas that overlook the existing football stadium.
UC SAN DIEGO: MCGILL HALL SEISMIC UPGRADES
San Diego, CA 2,500 sf Est. Completion 2021
McGill Hall, on the National and California Historic Registers for it’s Brutalist style, was showing signs of deterioration. Little’s team, serving as executive architect, led the design of the structural retrofit that included a seismic upgrade along with column repairs and flat site work to accomplish accessible compliance.
As part of the schematic design phase, the team performed on-site testing to provide the University with options on how to address the upgrades while maintaining the historic characteristics of the building.
Oceanside, CA 18,800 sf Est. Completion 2022
Focused on accommodating future growth and workstyles, this renovation aligned with the client’s budget while utilizing a design concept that reflects the MiraCosta Oceanside vibe through a coastal pallet of blues and tans. Working together, Little’s workplace and higher education teams created a revitalized space that is functional, effective and efficient while allowing students, employees and community members to feel welcome, comfortable and productive.
MIRACOSTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE: B500 CLASSROOM BUILDING
Cardiff, CA 7,300 sf
Completed 2020
Little worked with MiraCosta College District and the San Elijo Campus on the modernization of the B500 Classroom and Office Building. This project was essential to the overall goals of the District to improve and modernize campus-wide services; energy management improvement operations; and goals to enhance the overall experience of students, faculty, and visitors to a newly modernized campus in alignment with the Facilities Master Plan.
