D’autre fois D’autre fois is the second collaborative exhibition of Elad Kopler and Gilad Kahana. The works on show combine acrylic and oil painting with collage made from images taken from 1950s and 1960s French film magazines. The works center on relationships between lovers, and especially the difficulties they involve – blindness or avoidance, paralyzing regrets, infidelities, uncontrolled emotions and the constant reworking of memories. The descriptions that were used to accompany cinematic frames lend the works a sense of ongoing drama, which takes place entirely in the mind. Acts of erasure and subtraction merge with ease on the works’ surfaces; the loss of a layer often appears as an addition rather than a removal. Kopler and Kahana’s collaborative work takes place simultaneously on several canvases, each artist working alone. If either of them wants to halt (or must let the paint dry) they swap places. Their work process lacks hierarchies, both artists are free to glue magazine cuttings, to paint, frame, peel, rip, maintain the work’s geometric form or even distort it completely. D’autre fois means “some other time.” According to this series of works a strained relationship is never in the present but always in some other time.
בפעם אחרת | D’autre Fois D’autre foisהיא התערוכה השנייה בדרכם המשותפת של אלעד קופלר וגלעד כהנא. בסדרת עבודות זו הם מערבים ציור באקריליק ובשמן עם קולאז’ של גזירים ממגזינים צרפתיים משנות החמישים והשישים ,שעוסקים בקולנוע. העבודות עוסקות במערכת היחסים בין זוגות ,ובעיקר בקשיים המתעוררים בה -עיניים נעצמות או נעקרות ,חרטות קפואות ומקפיאות, בגידות ,התקפים בלתי נשלטים וזיכרונות משוכתבים שוב ושוב. השימוש בתיאורים שנלוו לפריימים של קולנוע מלפני עשורים אחדים משווה לעבודות תחושה של דרמה מתמשכת ,המתנהלת כל כולה בזיכרון בלבד .המחיקות והקילופים על גבי היצירה משתלבים במרחב זה בקלות רבה ,שכן קילוף שכבה היא לעיתים פעולה של הוספה ולא של גריעה. עבודתם המשותפת של קופלר ושל כהנא מתנהלת במקביל על כמה בדים ,כאשר כל אחד מהם עובד על בד לבדו .אם אחד מהם חש רצון לנוע הלאה (או שהוא חייב לתת לצבע להתייבש) אז הם מחליפים מיקום .אין היררכיה בעבודתם ,כל אחד מהם יכול להדביק גזירים ,לצייר, למסגר ,לקלף ,לקרוע ,לשמור על המבנה הגאומטרי של היצירה או אף לבגוד בו כליל. משמעותו המילולית של הביטוי D’autre foisהיא ״בפעם אחרת״ .על פי סדרת עבודות זו ,מערכת יחסים בקלקלתה לעולם אינה נמצאת בהווה – תמיד ב״פעם אחרת״.

Gilad Kahana Gilad Kahana (b. 1970, Mexico), is a musician, writer and multi-disciplinary artist who lives and works in Tel Aviv. His artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at Hezi Cohen Gallery, Tel Aviv, Fresh Paint 8 art fair, Janko Dada Museum, Ein Hod, and Sussie’s Art Bay, Tel Aviv. He is the recipient of the 2015 Israel National Lottery Landau Prize for Arts and Sciences, and of the 2018 Author of the Year ACUM Award. Kahana is lead singer in the band Girafot and the duo Lo Cohot. He has written songs for Dudu Tassa, Eviatar Banai, Yuval Dayan, Hadag Nahash, Berry Sakharof, Balkan Beat Box, Boaz Sharabi, Goran Bregović, Riff Cohen, Ishay Levi, Rockfour, Harel Skaat, Arkadi Duchin, Yehudit Ravitz, Yoni Bloch, Muki, David Broza and others. Kahana has published three books: The Punctuation of Unknowns, (Even Hoshen, 2013); A Crane Points to the Sea, (Hakibbutz Hameuchad, 2009); Plan for a Recovery from Disaster (Keter, 2003). In 2015 Kahana starred in the leading role in the film A Tale of Love and Darkness, alongside Natalie Portman. He also appeared in the film The Man in the Wall and had guest roles in the TV series My Successful Sisters, and Kacha Ze. In May 2019 Kahana was the artistic director of the opening evening of the Israel Festival in Jerusalem.
גלעד כהנא גלעד כהנא הוא מוסיקאי ,סופר ויוצר רב תחומי .נולד במקסיקו בשנת ,1970כיום חי ,יוצר ועובד בתל אביב. כהנא הציג את עבודותיו בתערוכות יחיד ובתערוכות קבוצתיות בגלריה ׳חזי כהן׳ בתל אביב ,ביריד ׳צבע טרי 8׳ ,במוזאון ׳ינקו דאדא׳, ובגלריה ׳סוזי׳ בתל אביב. הוא זוכה ׳פרס מפעל הפיס לאמנויות ולמדעים ע״ש לנדאו׳ לשנת 2015ופרס אקו”ם ל׳מחבר השנה׳ בשנת .2018 גלעד כהנא הוא סולן להקת ׳ג’ירפות׳ והצמד ‘לא כוחות’ .כמו כן הוא כותב שירים עבור אומנים אחרים :דודו טסה ,אביתר בנאי ,יובל דיין, ׳הדג נחש׳ ,ברי סחרוף ,׳בלקן ביט בוקס׳ ,בועז שרעבי ,גוראן ברגוביץ’ ,ריף כהן ,ישי לוי ,׳רוקפור׳ ,הראל סקעת ,ארקדי דוכין ,יהודית רביץ, יוני בלוך ,מוקי ,דייוויד ברוזה ורבים נוספים. כהנא כתב והוציא לאור שלושה ספרים :״פיסוק של נעלמים״ בהוצאת אבן חושן ;2013 ,״מנוף מצביע אל הים״ בהוצאת הקיבוץ המאוחד, “ ;2009תכנון להתאוששות מאסון״ בהוצאת כתר.2003 , הוא אחראי על עיצוב עטיפות אחדות לאלבומי ה׳ג׳ירפות׳ :׳גג׳ ( ,)2006׳צריך לסגור הכול׳ ( ,)2013׳מי שלא חולם כועס׳ ( .)2017כמו כן עיצב את כריכות שניים מספריו :״פיסוק של נעלמים״ ו״מנוף מצביע אל הים״. בשנת 2015השתתף כהנא בסרט “סיפור על אהבה וחושך” ,בתפקיד הראשי ,לצידה של נטלי פורטמן .בנוסף שיחק גם בסרט “האיש שבקיר” ובתפקידי אורח בסדרת הטלוויזיה “האחיות המוצלחות שלי” ובסרט “ככה זה” של דנה מודן ואסי כהן. במאי 2019כיהן כהנא כמנהל האומנותי בערב הפתיחה של פסטיבל ישראל.
Elad Kopler Born in Ramat Gan, Israel in 1974, Kopler currently lives and works in Tel-Aviv. He received his B.Ed. from Hamidrasha School of Art, Biet Berl in 2004 and graduated with distinction from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, MFA program, in Jerusalem, in 2006. Kopler’s work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions including the Tel-Aviv Museum of Art, Tel-Aviv; Haifa Museum of Art, Haifa; Petach Tikva Museum of Art; The Nahum Gutman Museum of Art, Tel-Aviv; Habres & Partner, Vienna; VOLTA13 Basel Art Fair 2017, Basel; and VOLTA NY Art Fair 2016, New York. Kopler has been the recipient of many awards and recognitions, amongst them are the Award Scholarship, Hamidrasha School of Art Beit Berl College; Award for Excellence, Bezalel Academy of Art Design; America-Israel Cultural Foundation; Young Artist Award, Ministry of Science Culture & Sport; and the Rappaport Prize for Young Painter, Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Kopler’s works are kept in collections worldwide including the Collection of Tel Aviv Museum of Art (Israel); The Collection of Petach Tikvah Musuem for Contemporary Art (Israel); Bank Ha’poalim Collection (Israel); Philip Hofer Collection, NY (USA); Sam & Yael Bacharach, NY (USA); and numerous private collections.
אלעד קופלר נולד ברמת גן בשנת .1974כיום חי ועובד בתל אביב .אלעד קופלר הוא בוגר תואר ראשון באמנות ב”מדרשה” ,הפקולטה ל לאמנויות בבית ברל ,משנת .2004הוא סיים בהצטיינות יתרה את התוכנית לתואר שני באקדמיה לאמנות “בצלאל” בירושלים ,בשנת .2006 קופלר הציג את עבודותיו בתערוכות יחיד ובתערוכות קבוצתיות במוזיאון תל אביב לאמנות; במוזיאון ישראל ירושלים; במוזיאון חיפה לאמנות; במוזיאון פתח תקווה לאמנות ובמוזיאון נחום גוטמן בתל אביב .כמו כן הציג ברחבי העולם בתערוכות וירידים ,כגון גלריית Harbes & Partnerבווינה; יריד VOLTAבניו יורק 2016ובבאזל .2017 קופלר זכה במגוון פרסים ומלגות ,ביניהם מלגת הצטיינות מאת המדרשה לאמנות במכללת בית ברל; מלגת הצטיינות מאת האקדמיה לאמנות ועיצוב ״בצלאל״ בירושלים; מלגת ״קרן תרבות אמריקה¬¬-ישראל״; פרס ״האומן הצעיר״ מאת המועצה לתרבות ואומנות במשרד התרבות והספורט; פרס ״רפפורט״ לאמן ישראלי צעיר ,מוזיאון תל אביב לאמנות. עבודותיו של אלעד קופלר נשמרות כיום באוספים שונים בארץ ובעולם ובכללם באוסף מוזיאון תל אביב לאמנות עכשווית; באוסף מוזיאון פתח תקווה לאמנות עכשווית; באוסף בנק הפועלים; באוסף “פיליפ הופר” ניו יורק; באוסף Sam & Yael Bacharachניו יורק ובאוספים פרטיים נוספים.
