Stronger Together The Gunter High School cheerleaders set their teams last Spring and immediately got to work to prepare for a successful 2019 – 2020 school year. One of their first items on the agenda was Cheer Camp. The team attended NCA camp last month at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine. They adopted the theme “Stronger Together” - which kept the cheerleaders focused and on track all during camp. As a team, the girls won superior ribbons each day. They won 3 spirit sticks, won the stunt safety award, won the award for crowd involvement and even earned a bid to Nationals!! Not only did the team perform well, but individually, the cheerleaders girls did amazing as well. From the Varsity squad, ten girls were nominated for All-American Cheerleaders: Finlee Gibson, Lana Saenz, Bella Craven, Sydney Wright, Bailey Brackeen, Natalee Hayes, Macky Hinkle, Kiley Meadors, Bria Savage and Rhiana Vincent. Our deepest congratulations go out to each of these ladies on their nominations! Out of those ten All-American nominees, four made the All-American Team! In order to qualify for the team, each nominee had to complete a tryout in front of the judges and the other teams on the final day of camp. Congratulations to Finlee Gibson, Lana Saenz, Bella Craven and Sydney Wright on your award – we are so proud of you! We’d also like to congratulate our Mascot, Stephanie Pelley, who was nominated as an All-American in the Mascot division.

DO YOU WANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY? DO YOU WANT TO SERVE OTHERS WHEN THEY NEED YOU MOST? Gunter Volunteer Fire and Rescue is looking for (and needing) people that would like to become a part of their team. Below is a list of frequently asked questions to determine if this might be the right opportunity for you. How much will it cost me to be on the department? Nothing except a little time. They provide everything that you will need.
many other ways. If you are interested in going into fires, they can also provide the training for that. Do I have to live in the city limits of Gunter? No, you only need to live in our fire district which goes well outside of the city limits. There are exceptions to this rule however, such as, if you work in the fire district and can leave the job to respond. The exceptions are handled on a case-by-case basis. What is the minimum age to be a firefighter?
You are covered by Workman's Compensation as well as other department provided insurance.
You must be at least 18 years old to be a firefighter but they do have an Explorer program that allows those as young as 14 to participate.
Do I have to stay at the station for shifts?
What will I be doing?
Gunter Volunteer Fire & Rescue doesn’t work in shifts. However, they do provide a comfortable environment so that the firefighters can hang around the station if they choose. Each individual responds to calls when they are available.
You will be involved with structure, wildland and car fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents and traffic control, public education, fundraisers, community events, search and rescue, hazardous material responses, training and many other activities.
What about insurance? Am I covered if I get hurt?
What if I don't currently have any certifications? They provide training. They also pay for some courses when firefighters choose to add to their certifications. Do I have to change my career to volunteer? No. Their firefighters work in many different careers. They have homemakers, engineers, project managers, construction personnel, managers, administrative assistants and many other professions. This variety of knowledge is one of the things that makes their team strong as they are able to utilize this diversity. Am I expected to go into fires?
If you would like further information about volunteering, please schedule a time to come by the station and they can answer all of you questions. You can call 903-433-2222 or message them through Facebook to schedule a time.
No. Although there are people that enjoy going into burning structures, there are several people needed to support them. You may be more interested in learning to operate the engine, provide rehab or assist in

FAMILY FEATURES
ack-to-school season can be cluttered between afterschool activities, weekend sports and evening homework – as well as making dinner each night. Creating a master meal plan with quick, simple and nutritious meals is an easy way to take control of your family’s hectic schedule. Start by stocking the pantry with staple ingredients that amp up the nutrition and flavor of your family favorites. For example, American Pecans are a nutritious ingredient to have on-hand – among the highest in “good” monounsaturated fats and packed with plant protein, fiber and essential minerals – and “The Original Supernut” is versatile enough for breakfast, lunchboxes, dinners and on-the-go snacking. Adding one bag to your weekly grocery list provides a canvas for

exploring new dishes that are both nutritious and delicious. In fact, according to the Food and Drug Administration, scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1 1/2 ounces per day of most nuts, such as pecans, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. One serving (28 grams) of pecans contains 18 grams of unsaturated fat and only 2 grams of saturated fat. Updating your dinner repertoire doesn’t have to be complicated. Fuss-free recipes such as Pizza with Pecan-Herb Topping, Baked Pecan-Crusted Chicken Tenders and Pecan-Crusted Air Fryer Pork Chops can be ready in less than an hour and put a fresh twist on classic favorites to please parents and kids alike.
