I’m praying that you will make friends who will have your back, make you laugh and will make you want to be better. And that you will be that type of friend.

I’m praying that you will have the opportunity to be the light of Jesus to someone you meet. I’m praying that you will always be humble and kind, even in the face of conflict or disagreement. I’m praying that you will seek out the new person, or the lonely person, and that you will help them find their place. I’m praying that you will learn to be a leader. I’m praying that you will do everything to the best of your ability…even when you don’t want to or when you don’t feel like it. That’s when you will grow the most. I’m praying that you will be focused on the things your teachers are trying to teach you so that you will learn to the best of your ability. I’m praying that you will have confidence from knowing you are a child of God. I’m praying that if things go wrong, as they sometimes do, that you’ll always remember that God loves you, no matter what. I’m praying that you will laugh a lot during your day. And that you will make others laugh as well. I’m praying that you will follow Jesus’ footsteps and grow in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. Most of all, I’m praying that this year will be filled with learning, growth, joy and fun! With Prosper Pide,

Town Matters
T wn Matters
By Mayor Ray Smith
Someone a bit smarter than me once said, “Every story has an end, but every end is really just the start of a new beginning.” That quote came to mind recently as we get ready to celebrate the career of Fire Chief Ronnie Tucker at his retirement ceremony at the end of August. The Chief has been part of Prosper for over 25 years, as a volunteer, parttime and full-time Chief. Obviously, he leaves very large shoes to fill. In spite of that quarter century of service to Prosper, which would normally be a full career for anyone else, Chief Tucker can point to his start in the fire service as a volunteer with the Allen Fire Department in late 1975. After a few years there, he went into full-time service in Richardson in 1978. So, for the last 42 years, Ronnie Tucker has been fighting fires and saving lives. I know a little about what that’s like, since I served as a volunteer fire fighter in Frisco some years ago. As the saying goes, though, Chief Tucker has already forgotten more than I ever knew about the fire service. I can’t pretend to know even a small fraction of what Chief Tucker has experienced, but I can tell you that there is nothing quite like fighting fires and saving lives. The sudden rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins as you arrive at a fire, the fiercely searing heat of a building in full bloom, and the uncommonly selfless courage of the men and women who willingly run into a flaming inferno to save a life are things that cannot be described. And, yet, we see these tremendous people every day, in uniform and out. We see them at church or a ball game, buying groceries with their families, attending PTA meetings, and working in their yards. Except for the unflinching dedication to helping others that they hold deep within their hearts, they’re just like you and me. Except maybe Ronnie Tucker. A man of deep humility and a true representation of servant leadership, Ronnie can sometimes surprise those who take him lightly. I remember when it happened to me. In 2007, I was a newly-elected Council member in Prosper, having served in a similar capacity in Frisco. During my first budget work session, Chief Tucker appeared before the Council and asked for a new fire truck. I promptly informed him that in Frisco, where I had served on Council, Fire Chief Mack Borchardt would give each Council member a personalized baseball cap with our names and titles embroidered on the sides. Some caps had the Frisco Fire Department logo on the front others had a picture of the fire truck he was requesting on the front. After a short break, we returned to the session and Ronnie had taken a red plastic fire hat they give kids during tours and had written my name on both sides with a marker. We all had a good laugh. And, while the story of Ronnie Tucker the Fire Chief ends, a new beginning for him and Janie starts, and we wish him all the very best.

Student Registration Returning Student Registration
Parents of returning PISD students are reminded to register their school aged children online through InfoSnap. It is important for parents to complete this registration information yearly in order to ensure we have accurate information for your student. An automated email has been sent to parents containing information for each student for registration. If you did not receive an email with this information, please contact the Campus Registrar at your zoned campus. In order for students to be placed on a class list at elementary or to have a schedule made at secondary campuses, parents must complete the annual on-line registration process and provide the District with a new proof of residency. To access on-line registration, visit the Prosper ISD website (www.prosper-isd.net) and click on the parents tab. New Student Registration

If it is determined that we have all of the information we need you will receive an email from the campus registrar indicating that your child qualifies as “Fly-By”. This means that you do not have to go to the campus to complete the registration process. However, if you do not receive a “Fly-By” email within a week of submitting your child’s information please contact the campus registrar to make an appointment to meet with them to complete the registration process. On average this process will take anywhere between 15 to 30 minutes so please plan accordingly. In addition, please bring to the appointment copies of the following documents for your child:

Transportation Prosper ISD continues to bring quality transportation to the Prosper community through district-owned and supervised school bus services. All bus routes are equipped with propane-powered school buses, all with seatbelts, air conditioning, and video surveillance. New information is now available on the Prosper ISD website under Transportation. We will be continually updating our site as we get closer to the start of school. If you have any questions, please contact us at pisdbus@prosper-isd.net. As a reminder, students who live within 2 miles of their designated campus are not eligible for transportation. In rare cases, the PISD School Board has defined certain routes as hazardous because of the absence of adequate sidewalks or crosswalks as defined by board policy. For added safety, PISD will post additional crossing guards at busy intersections to assist students walking to and from school. Please note the 2 mile walk zones and crossing guard locations are located on the PISD Transportation website.

Memory-Making Meals Mark Back to School Most families are looking for ways to spend more time together, but managing the family schedule can be a daunting task, especially with the additions of nightly homework and extracurricular activities a new school year brings. Hectic weeknight schedules during back-to-school season don’t need to get in the way of quality time spent around the dinner table with these simple tips for enjoying dinner together. Designate a time. Write dinner time on a calendar in the kitchen so every family member is aware of this special time and can look forward to sitting down together. Even if your schedule is overwhelming, pick a specific day each week and block out time to have a meal as a family.

Rely on foods rooted in tradition. Experimenting with recipes can add quick and easy new favorites to the family meal repertoire like Spaghetti and Turkey Meatballs, a modern twist on the nostalgic family classic. As food trends come and go, RAGÚ continues to be a culinary staple for family meals. For 80 years, RAGÚ has gathered families at the table to celebrate the tradition of creating memories around a mouthwatering meal. Whether that’s a new take on ravioli or a family-favorite pasta dish, families can count on serving up delicious pasta sauces rich with bold, Italian flavors and vine-ripened tomatoes. Create rituals. To build a tradition in the kitchen, try involving the whole family by showing your kids age-appropriate ways to contribute to their favorite meal. Let them measure ingredients to create better-foryou turkey meatballs, carry ingredients from one place to another, mix and pour ingredients, and set the table. Creating a ritual of cooking a favorite back-to-school meal with your kids is a good way to help them build healthy habits and skills that will last a lifetime. Step away from your cell phone. Designate dinnertime as a nocellphone zone. Leave your mobile devices in another room to allow for time to reconnect with your loved ones and be fully present. Create fun dinner table topics. Making the table a fun place to be is the best strategy for getting your family to dinner and keeping them at the table longer. Make a game out of sharing the best parts of your day with each other. This can be a great way to laugh together as well as an opportunity to offer much-needed advice and support. Find more easy recipes to bring the family together during the busy backto-school season and throughout the year at RAGU.com or on Facebook.

Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream First to Open in Gates of Prosper By Joyce Godwin
It has finally happened. The long-awaited retail stores for Gates of Prosper are beginning to open. Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field and Stream are the first to open at the corner of U.S. Highway 380 and State Highway 289 in Prosper known as the Gates of Prosper. Construction has been ongoing for more than a year. It’s actually one store, said store manager Robert Gribbon as the doors opened to the public for the first time Tuesday morning. “It looks like two stores from the outside, but we own Field and Stream and it’s all one store inside,” Gribbon said. “On the Dick’s side is mostly sports equipment and clothing while the Field and Stream side is hunting and fishing equipment and accessories.” When the store is fully staffed, Gribbon estimates the number of jobs will be approximately 125. Prosper’s Chamber of Commerce ambassadors had a large group on hand to provide a ribboncutting ceremony officially welcoming the new business to Prosper. Tuesday’s event was what is termed a soft opening. Although the store is open for business now, the grand opening will be Friday. Gribbon said there will be all kinds of fun activities and giveaways at the store throughout the weekend that customers won’t want to miss. “This is tremendous,” said Prosper’s Mayor Ray Smith. “Looking around this store, it’s obvious it was built and put together with excellence and that is what we love in Prosper.”

Marisol Trautmann, DDS, MS Dr. Marisol Trautmann has always felt honored that people have chosen her to take care of their dental needs. Anytime she takes care of someone, she always puts that patient’s needs first. To her, it’s like treating family. In the past 26 years that she has been a dentist, she has learned that listening to her patients is her best diagnostic and treatment planning tool. Her belief is that she has to know and understand their symptoms and concerns and based on that, she can create a treatment plan that is going to restore their dental health while still looking great. It has to make sense to them. In 1994, she was accepted at the Advanced Prosthodontics Program at The Ohio State University after being a general dentist for 3 years. It prepared her to face different challenges that patients have and guide them to restore their oral health. She felt, then, that she needed to know more so that she could treat both the simple and the more complicated cases. Once she graduated as a Prosthodontist, she joined the Faculty at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas for a few years and that’s how her love for Texas started. After many years in private practice, she brought her knowledge and experience together and decided to open Prosper Dental Health in 2014. Prosper has been her home since 2006, and bringing her work home has been an amazing career choice. The Prosper Dental Health team maintains a strong belief that everyone deserves to not only have a bright and beautiful smile but be able to maintain it as well. Because of that, they implemented a recall system so they can make sure that every patient’s oral hygiene is top notch. It’s very important to keep a regimen where they see you every 4 to 6 months to make sure there aren’t any new problems developing, and if there are, they can treat them in their early stages. They provide treatment which includes fillings, crowns, cosmetic veneers, implant supported dentures, All on Four, implant supported crowns and bridges, TMJ therapy, sleep apnea appliances, etc. For those who don't know her, Dr. Trautmann was born in Costa Rica, and came to the United States for her dental degree. She fell in love with this country and stayed. Costa Rica is always in her heart and it’s her favorite vacation destination now, but Prosper is her home, now and always. She loves the community. She is involved with the Prosper Rotary Club and through their Flag Lease Program Fundraiser, they are giving back to the Community through different organizations and making a difference. She has raised her three boys here and feels blessed to have found Prosper. As any parent knows, it’s an active lifestyle with any child, so whenever she is not talking about teeth or helping around the community, she is making memories at the lake with family or having a fun adventure somewhere. Dr. Trautmann would like to take this opportunity to invite you to become part of her dental family. She and her team will make sure they put your needs first, and they will help you build your confident, healthy, and beautiful smile.

In His Presence
Lessons from service As a pastor of a church, I have found over the years that mission work truly feeds my soul. I love serving others, whether through an individual one-time project or via long term efforts. The Mission at Prosper United Methodist Church had the amazing blessing of partnering with another church out of Kingston, Oklahoma (Lighthouse UMC) to go on a life-changing trip this summer to Tanzania. What made the trip even more personally powerful for me was the blessing of being able to travel with my 13-yearold daughter. Through the very generous gifts of our friends and family, we were able to raise enough money for both of us to travel to Africa for two weeks. Oftentimes I am asked why we travel across the world when there are needs in our own neighborhoods. For me the answer isn’t whether you do one or the other. We are called to serve all of God’s children, near or far, so we answered the call to travel to Tanzania. I am sure glad we did. While many days touched my heart, I think the

most powerful moments came at a village in the bush known as Mtupli. The Massai people there desperately needed water, so our mission was to install two water wells. Upon arriving at the village, we were asked to lay hands on the water well and bless it. I was overcome with emotion as I realized what our seemingly small gift had done for these people. Now over 1500 villagers get clean water safely instead of having to encounter elephants, hyenas or crocodiles in search of water. As we returned to the bus that afternoon, I looked over and saw that my daughter Maddie was sobbing. As she grabbed me in a hug, I asked her why she was crying. She admitted that she was amazed at how happy the children living in the bush appeared. She said, “Back at home, we have so much stuff and yet, we always seem to be unhappy and unfulfilled. These kids have nothing but are smiling and laughing just because we are here.” I would not have traded that moment with my daughter for any amount of money in the world. We are called to love our neighbors. We are called to care for the orphan and the widow. We are called to visit the sick and feed the hungry.
Jesus didn’t say to only care for those close by. He commanded that we care for all of his children, both those in Prosper and those far away in a place called Tanzania. I will never forget this summer and I hope you find ways to serve those less fortunate than yourselves, too. I promise you will be blessed even more than you bless them!
