4 Tips for a Productive 2021 This year has taught many workers a thing or two about being productive when offices and homes blend into one. As the calendar turns to 2021, consider these key products and processes to stay productive next year. FIND A SYSTEM (and stick to it) Creating an organizing system is an easy way to ensure your at-home workspace is ready for optimal productivity. Designate space to house all your work items – a drawer, cabinet or box – and keep work items organized by type (pens, papers, computer gear, etc.) At the end of each day, transitioning to “offline hours” can be easier when you have a place to stow your work items. START YOUR DAY CLEAN Studies have shown cleanliness has a direct impact on productivity. Yet, many people struggle to find the time and energy to clean, especially at the end of a busy day at home. An option like The DEEBOT T8 from Ecovacs provides a hands-free cleaning experience, complete with the time-saving benefits of an all-in-one robot vacuum and floor mop, along with TrueDetect technology to avoid tangling in small objects. Easily controlled via an app, just set it to clean before bed and wake up to a tidy workspace. 8 | WeAreProsper.com

BREAK UP YOUR DAY With so many hours at home in front of a computer, workdays can get a little monotonous. Break up the day to make working from home feel as “normal” as possible – shower in the morning, take a walk or drive to coffee then make time for at least two breaks throughout the day. Some people have found success with the Pomodoro Technique, which is breaking your day up into 25-minute chunks of work, with 5-minute rest periods. If you continue to work until you feel like taking a break, odds are you’ll overwork yourself until it’s too late to take the “big break” you had in mind. BOOKEND YOUR DAYS WITH MINDFULNESS At the beginning and end of each workday, do a 3-5-minute mindfulness meditation. Before signing on to work for the day, allow your mind to fully focus on the day’s tasks at-hand. Signoff by doing another mediation to end the day and let go of any worries or stresses you might have. Incorporating this tactic into your daily routine can help create a natural boundary from work and home while also restoring peace of mind. Find more solutions to help maintain productivity at Ecovacs.com.

From the Desk of Dr. Holly Ferguson

Find Your Gift Welcome to 2021 and the turning of the page to a whole new chapter of life. As a new year begins, I am reminded every year, so begins new hope, faith, and belief in the future. This renewed belief allows us to set new goals and start a new outlook on what can be without focusing on the past that we cannot change. Sadly, many of us lose this focus in a short amount of time as the days march forward during the cold winter. Fatigue, stress, and the impact on daily life set in, and we find ourselves adrift. The one thing that can always bring me back to focus is when I think of our students. They are our future, and each time I visit with them, I am reminded that our students thrive on structure, routine, and consistency even though our older students would say the opposite. Our children look at us from a young age as if we are superheroes. The reality is that they are the ones saving us daily. Knowing this should lead us to embrace each day with the same spirit we do when a new year begins. We become more engaged and more impactful when we realize how many people are depending on us. It holds us accountable and makes us strive to be more, do more, and give more. My challenge to each of you this year is to remember that others depend on you when you may not even realize it at all. In a world where you can do anything and be anything you choose to be, be the type of person that others can depend on for strength, kindness, and hope. A good reminder is that showing kindness to another person is giving them your strength. Your strength could be a critical factor in changing someone’s life and setting it in the right direction. Each of us was given a gift that must be utilized daily to see our gift’s real impact. I have a picture hanging in my home by Pablo Picasso. This picture hangs near my front door, so each time I enter or exit my house, I am reminded of the gifts I have been given. The picture says, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” No matter your age, capabilities, or challenges, I challenge each of you in this new year to find three people that you can give your gift and make a change for the better. These small acts will make our world a better place and set a strong example for those around you. You never know the impact you can have and the lives you can change until you are willing to pour into those around you.

Prosper Council Passes Fifth Resolution on 380 Bypass

Ladera Prosper 2nd Quarter of 2021

Describing their steadfast and unwavering support for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) expansion of US 380 within its corporate boundaries as “clear and consistent,” the Prosper Town Council has passed its fifth resolution supporting that specific stance. The five resolutions, starting with the first in April 2017, are also equally resolute in their solid opposition to the construction of a US 380 bypass route that bisects, or divides Prosper. Each of the five resolutions, which all share common language, is aimed at conveying the Town’s strong position, making the case that Prosper must be able to define its own future, chart its own development direction, and solely determine how its land is utilized.

Prosper ISD High School #3 2nd Quarter of 2023

4th Quarter of 2021

2nd Quarter of 2021 E UNIVERSITY DR

The resolution, authored without consultation with Prosper officials or staff, caused Prosper Town Manager Harlan Jefferson to react with some disbelief. “I have never heard of one city advocating for a roadway alignment to be constructed in another community,” he said. “This is akin to the Prosper Town Council voting on the tax rate increase in the City of Duncanville. Such action is outside our authority and it would be presumptuous of us to conclude we know what is in the best interest of that community.” Notably, the Town has consistently supported TxDOT’s expansion of US 380 along its current alignment through the Town and has developed in a way that supports the existing alignment. The unifying theme in each resolution is the clear rejection of any segment that veers inside Prosper’s limits. This point was highlighted during a meeting on this topic in 2018 when a bypass segment which mirrors the current segment B was under consideration. At that meeting, Prosper resident and former Mayor of Frisco, Kathy Seei said, “Do not allow McKinney to move the consequences of their failure to plan for the future onto a neighboring city which has painstakingly planned their future community.” 12 | WeAreProsper.com

Later this month, TxDOT, which has been fully briefed on the Town’s position, is holding another in a series of public hearings to gather input from affected communities and their residents on the environmental impact of the proposed bypass. Among the several proposed bypass routes is one which encroaches into the southeast corner of Prosper’s town limits, called segment B. This segment, which has been consistently rejected by Prosper residents, as well as the Prosper Town Council, was at the center of a resolution recently passed by a neighboring municipality.

North Dallas Cemetery 2nd Quarter of 2021

E UNIVERSITY DR

Moreover, the proposed segment B tramples over several planned and existing residential developments, an educational facility under construction, several businesses already in operation, and a cemetery. A development map of the affected area, included with this release, was provided to TxDOT. Significantly, the segment is also wholly incompatible with the Prosper Comprehensive Plan and the Prosper Thoroughfare Plan. The five Prosper resolutions include language that supports the development of US 380 into a so-called Limited Access Roadway, popularly called freeways. In addition, all resolutions state an unequivocal opposition to any plan that includes any portion of a bypass through Prosper. “We are reaffirming, in the strongest manner possible, that we reject segment B or any other attempt to encroach on any portion of Prosper’s landmass,” said Jefferson.

Skyward Looking Prosper Family Gets Blue Star Flag When Prosper residents Jennette and Victor Glover want to have a conversation with their son, Victor, Jr., they’ll have to settle for a phone or video call because a personal visit would literally be out of this world. Commander Victor J. Glover, Jr. is currently one of the astronauts deployed to the International Space Station on a six-month mission. Jennette and Victor, Sr. were recently hosted by the Prosper Town Council and presented with a Blue Star flag, denoting that a family member is on active military duty. Along with the flag, jointly presented with representatives of the Prosper Rotary Club, Mayor Ray Smith issued a proclamation on behalf of the Council making the presentation an official part of the permanent Town records. A US Navy pilot, Commander Glover served as the pilot of the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule “Resilience” which launched on November 15 and reached the International Space Station on November 17. The launch represents the first long-term, contracted, fully operational astronaut mission to the International Space Station for NASA. Commander Glover completed advanced fighter training in the U.S. Navy in 2001 and was designated as a test pilot in 2007. He has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours on more than 40 aircraft, has successfully navigated over 400 carrier landings at sea, and 24 combat missions for the US Navy. The Navy pilot was selected as one of the Astronaut Group 21 team in June 2013 and completed his training in 2015. He was introduced as one of the Commercial Crew astronauts assigned to fly on the first operational flight of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon in 2018. “We’re very proud to have the Glover family as part of our community,” said the Mayor. “Each of the Prosper families displaying Blue Star flags have a special place in our hearts, and certainly Jennette and Victor have a very unique story to tell about theirs.” The Blue Star flag program has its origins in World War I when families with deployed soldiers and sailors would display a flag to commemorate their family member’s active service. A companion program, the Gold Star flag program, is reserved for families of military members killed in action.

When it comes to home design, color can change everything. From understated, clean hues and calming neutrals to soft greens and mid-tone colors with artistic qualities, a whole new style is just brush strokes away. With the right color palette, you can transform your space to highlight contemporary trends while creating your desired ambiance. These curated Clark+Kensington color palettes, showcasing on-trend looks for 2021, are heavily inspired by nature and natural materials like raw cotton, linen, wood tones and soft, peaceful greens. The colors invite the best of the outdoors inside so you can design a personal refuge where you’re free to relax and unwind.

Local Expertise Innovative Approach Real Integrity STACY CATE

Each of these three collections, assembled by the experts at Ace Hardware, can help conjure a sense of calm and offer inspiration so you can thoughtfully incorporate color into your home. MINDFUL LIVING If you want to bring new layers of wellness to your life, the calming neutrals and soft greens that make up this refreshing and cleansing palette may be just what you’re seeking. The muted tone of Fair Isle is a soft neutral that pairs well with a wide range of colors, such as the inviting Blue Spruce green that resembles a richly treed mountainside. Additionally, Swiss Coffee and Natural White offer neutral options that lend a surprising sense of coziness while Smokey Taupe and Playas de Cancun provide alternatives to bring bolder, but still soothing, color to your space. UNDERSTATED IMPACT If minimalism and clean lines reflect your desire to simplify your surroundings, you’ll likely be drawn to a “less is more” approach to design. This uncluttered sensibility allows you to focus on key elements of a room that are impactful yet edited. To achieve this look, build your palette around slate-like hues of gray and blue, such as Gothic Iron or a cooler take on slate with Magic Fountain. Options like Silent White and Abstract Gray lend neutral warmth while an earthy burgundy like Red Tulip or the deep, not-quite-black tones of Midnight Stroll are ideal for creating a focal point. CREATIVE ESCAPE This palette of mid-tone colors with artistic qualities may be best suited for someone who embraces traditional crafting techniques and delights in working with his or her hands. Striking slate blue Midnight Oil is reminiscent of waves crashing in the dark of night while Subtle Gray offers a softer take on the slate-like tones. As the name suggests, Fiddlehead Fern brings lush vegetation to mind while Act Naturally and Caramel Apple deliver pops of color consistent with streaks of an orange-kissed sunset. The most subtle of this collection, Beach Cottage, features a slightly peach-to-pinkish tint that gives unique character to a neutral selection. Any color in these palettes can be selected and ordered from the comfort of your home online using in-store pickup, curbside pickup or delivery from your local store. Start with color samples to test your colors on your walls in different locations and under different lighting then order your gallons and painting supplies when you’re ready to complete your project. Landscaping Resolutions for 2021 Experiment with Form and Texture

F

lowers can spruce up a landscape, but sometimes we become way too dependent on annual color, ignoring the value that other plant features can bring to a yard, especially when it’s “off season” for flowers. Nor does the answer lie solely in the use of fall foliage trees or smaller foliage shrubs. A large clump of ornamental grass can add great interest to a winter landscape, as can trees and shrubs with interesting branching patterns, such as Coral Bark Japanese Maple tree. That bright red bark is quite eye catching! With this observation, we enter the world of plant form and texture. Appreciate Your Plants After going through a long winter, plant lovers are often guilty of going crazy at the nursery in the spring. We buy too many kinds of trees, shrubs and perennials all at once — one of this, one of that…. This, even though one of the most important principles to remember when designing your own landscape is that masses of the same plant can have a much bigger visual impact in planting beds. Admittedly, sometimes it’s more satisfying to walk into the nursery and buy a smorgasbord of individual plants. But that’s just for one day. How to derive the most satisfaction from your plants over the long term is an issue of much greater importance, don’t you think? There’s something to be said for turning our attention to more fully appreciating each and every plant we end up growing in our gardens each season if planned out correctly. Look for the Details There are so many small details worth admiring! I find that I get the most satisfaction from my garden when I slow down long enough to admire what’s already there, properly, before adding too much more before some good thought. To that end, I recommend carrying around a magnifying glass when in the garden, just kidding! Making sure you are still reading. But do pay attention to smaller plants that may have a bigger impact than you give them credit for. Or perhaps you’re pretty satisfied and just want to add a few small things? Those small changes can sometimes make a world of difference! Raise Your Gardening to a New Level Perhaps a bad back precludes your stooping over with a magnifying glass to appreciate the details of plants on the ground, consider growing your plants in raised beds, which effectively bring the plants up to your level. Of course, it’s also easier to maintain plants in raised beds. Raised beds also tend to have much better drainage for your plants as well. Many Vegetable Gardens are constructed in raised beds.

18 | WeAreProsper.com

Keep a Garden Journal But don’t stop there! At the next level of commitment, the plant appreciator keeps a garden journal. Keeping a garden journal will allow you to record the changes in your plants, as they progress through the seasons — and from year to year, if you have the discipline and time to stick with it that long! Nowadays lots of folks are spending more and more time working from home! And if you’re even a bit more committed to “making a connection” with your plants and thereby appreciating them to the fullest, snap photos of them at different junctures along the way. A close-up lens comes in handy for this but isn’t absolutely necessary. The photos can be incorporated in your garden journal. I find the easiest way to keep such a journal can be on your computer. For instance, to chart the progress of a Crape Myrtle Tree, create a “Crape Myrtle Tree” folder. Turn Plants into Vacation Memories Going on vacation? When making a trip by car, take note – or pictures – of any plant that really catches your eye, as you observe what the locals are growing in their landscapes. Then a simple search on your phone for a local nursery in that same area, where you can make inquiries concerning the availability and growing requirements of that plant. Of course, you may quickly find out that it won’t grow in your own planting zone… we are zone 7 and 8. Assuming the plant in question is growable back home, consider buying it, as a souvenir of your trip. Don’t Be a Garden Snob!

Many of us “serious” gardeners could profit from lightening up considerably in our approach to landscaping. Just because some plants are more common than others, doesn’t necessarily mean our high and mighty gardens are too good to be “soiled” by such riffraff. Looked at objectively, annuals can be viewed as a reservoir of color that you can “dip into” as filler during periods when your perennials have run into a “blooming drought.” And always remember what one person doesn’t really care for the next person would drive across the country to get one of those plants! Until next time... Happy Gardening!! Jimmie

CHEESY GERMAN POTATO SOUP

MINI CHOCOLATE-BEET CHEESECAKES WITH MAPLE-ORANGE GLAZE

1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Crust:

1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 8 slices bacon, chopped

1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup chopped walnuts 3 tablespoons salted butter, softened

3 large carrots, chopped 1 medium onion, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 6 cups low-sodium chicken broth 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Cheesecake: 1 jar (15 ounces) Aunt Nellie’s Sliced Beets 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup pure maple syrup 1 large egg 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted

1 tablespoon dried parsley 2 cans (15 ounces each) READ German Potato Salad 1 cup heavy cream 1 cup whole milk

Topping: 2 tablespoons frozen orange juice concentrate 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup

chopped parsley or chives (optional)

1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon whipped cream (optional)

Place cheeses and flour in gallon-size zip-top bag. Close bag. Shake until cheese is covered with flour; set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Line 12 medium muffin cups with foil liners.

In large Dutch oven over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp, stirring occasionally. Transfer to paper towel-lined plate; set aside. Pour off all but 2-3 tablespoons bacon drippings. Return Dutch oven to medium heat. Add carrots, onion and garlic. Cook until onions are translucent, and carrots are softened, 3-4 minutes. Add chicken broth, black pepper, red pepper flakes, thyme and parsley. Stir in potato salad. Continue cooking over medium heat 5 minutes, or until potatoes are heated through, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low. Slowly stir in cream and milk. Cook 5-8 minutes until blended and heated through, stirring frequently. Slowly add cheeses, stirring until melted. Top with bacon. Garnish with parsley or chives, if desired.

To make crust: In medium bowl, combine flour and walnuts. Using fork or pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Place about 1 tablespoon mixture into each lined muffin cup. Lightly press crumbs into bottom. Bake 5-6 minutes, or until crust begins to brown. To make cheesecake: Drain beets, reserving 2 tablespoons liquid. In blender, puree 1/2 cup beets and reserved liquid until smooth; set aside. Dice remaining beets; set aside. In large bowl, combine cream cheese and syrup. Beat until smooth. Add egg; mix until blended. Stir in reserved pureed beets. Add melted chocolate; mix well. Spoon about 3 tablespoons cream cheese mixture into muffin cups over warm crusts. Bake 15 minutes, or until filling is set. Let cool to room temperature. Place cheesecakes in refrigerator at least 30 minutes. To make topping: In small saucepan, combine reserved diced beets, orange juice concentrate, syrup and cinnamon. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to boil, stirring frequently. Continue cooking and stirring until mixture thickens and appears glossy, 5-8 minutes. Remove from heat; let cool to room temperature. Remove cheesecakes from muffin liners. Top evenly with glazed beets. Serve with whipped cream, if desired.

An overcoat can be made from a variety of fabrics (look for a warm wool or synthetic for colder temperatures) and generally falls somewhere below the knee—look for button-up or belted. An overcoat can easily be dressy or casual. FAUX FUR JACKETS Glam to Go What’s better than being toasty warm? Being toasty warm and feeling like a style star. Faux fur is the best way to add an on-trend look to your outerwear wardrobe. Whether you choose a faux fur “chubby” (a jacket that hits at the waist), a vest or longer length coat, you’ll be cozy and fashionable. Not ready to go full-faux-fur? Try a piece trimmed in the fuzzy stuff. HOODED COATS Extra Warmth Where You Need It How many times have you left your winter hat on a restaurant banquette, bus seat or sitting at home? With a hooded coat or jacket, a cold head is a thing of the past. Hoods come on jackets and coats, and on a number of styles. We love a fur trimmed hood for rocking the adorably Arctic look. ANIMAL PRINT COATS Walk on The Wild Side A distant cousin to faux fur outerwear, animal prints are another great way to add personality to your outerwear game. Think about it: why shouldn’t your coat or jacket be just as fashionable as the clothes you wear under it? Leopard print, in particular, looks amazing with a bright color peeking out from underneath. PUFFER JACKETS Get Down with It

Puffers have been on the winter radar of all the most stylish people for the last few seasons. We love that a puffer can be sporty, luxe, or even have feminine details like bows or special buttons. No matter your style, a puffer (synthetic or down fill) is an über-warm way to express your (very fashionable) personality.

Match Your Winter Skin Care Routine with Your Active Lifestyle

Winter weather can pose some unique challenges to your skin, especially if you’re trying to maintain an active workout routine. Exposure to the elements while exercising outdoors can have a harsh impact on the skin. On the other hand, the humidity and constant running of heaters can also wreak havoc if the weather forces you to work out indoors. “The winter season can be a challenge for those trying to maintain their workout regimens, especially this year when many people are staying closer to home,” said Dr. Jeanine Downie, board-certified dermatologist and Medline Remedy consultant. “An outdoor workout is a great way to get some fresh air and burn calories, but it’s also important to nourish your skin before and after you’ve completed your workout.” Just like establishing a good winter workout routine, there are some things you can do to keep your skin in shape all winter long. Use sunscreen any time you venture outdoors and dress for whatever elements you may be facing. Be sure to remove wet clothes, which can create friction and skin irritation, immediately after returning inside. Limit the length of hot showers, which can also dry out skin, and use a quality moisturizer, especially after exposure to harsh weather.

LONG-LASTING MOISTURE When you spend time working out outdoors, your body’s natural hydration is more prone to evaporating. That, in turn, can lead to dry skin. Whether you’re battling rough skin or simply want to help keep your skin hydrated, a clinically tested lotion can help maintain the skin’s natural defenses. After spending time outside and every time you wash your hands or bathe, help retain moisture for up to 24 hours with an option like Remedy Dermatology Series Body Lotion, which includes safflower oleosomes for lasting moisturization with natural oils. Its smooth, rich formula absorbs quickly, leaving skin feeling soft with no greasy or oily residue. ENRICHED SKIN NUTRITION Repeated exposure to the winter elements can take a toll, leading to dry, cracked and dehydrated skin. A quality lotion that matches your skin type can help. Formulated by skin care specialists for dry, dehydrated skin, Remedy Dermatology Hand & Body Moisturizing Cream contains soothing antioxidants and vitamins that support skin nutrition. The fragrance-free, hypoallergenic cream goes on rich and thick but still absorbs readily into the skin to help it stay hydrated. The proprietary botanical blend of humectants, manuka honey, natural oil emollients, ceramides and botanical nutrition is also free of 80 of the most common allergens that contribute to skin sensitivity.
