Life & Luxury Magazine Letter From the Publishers

Prosper Strong When we headed out for Denver at the beginning of Spring Break, we never dreamt that things would change so drastically in a week. It was a beautiful drive with a fun group of volleyball friends…and I was grateful for the one-on-one time with my daughter. Denver is always beautiful, and the Colorado Crossroads National Qualifier has always been one of my favorite tournaments. It was our first Qualifier of the season and our team was ready to do BIG things! As we competed that weekend, we began to hear rumblings about the Coronavirus…and we noticed that the convention center had set up lots of extra hand sanitizer stations. By the time Monday rolled around, everyone was talking about it – but we never expected that as we packed up our volleyball gear and headed back home, it would be for the last time this season. Or that our last dinner with friends in New Mexico would be the last time we ate at a restaurant for months. Within two days of returning home to enjoy the rest of our Spring Break, everything began shutting down. We were in disbelief…but honestly never thought it would directly affect us here. Then the news came – an extra week of Spring Break. That was okay, we would enjoy another week at home with our kids. Then our oldest daughter called with the news…the University of Arkansas was moving to online classes for the rest of the semester and the dorms were closing. Well, we could handle that too – we missed her and looked forward to having her home early. But in the days and weeks that followed, as more and more things closed and cancelled, the somber reality began to set in. This wasn’t going to be over in a week or two…we were looking at months! Fear began to set in for our friends that own local businesses and restaurants…for those that began to lose their jobs due to the Stay at Home Orders…and for our children that were being asked to give up being with friends and extended family, as well as staying home from school and extracurricular activities. It was surreal. We all adjusted…we had no choice. We set up our home offices, school desks for our kids and hunkered down. We only went out for groceries and to support our local restaurants a few times a week for curbside service – and fell in love with the loosening of the guidelines to allow for take-out margaritas, growlers of beer and mason jar drinks from The Gin! We followed the orders and we adapted for our clients…we did whatever we could to help our community and flatten the curve. We wanted this to end…we wanted people to be able to get back to work and for local businesses to open their doors again. We wanted our kids to get back to doing what kids do. We wanted to go out to dinner with our friends. We wanted our community back… and we wanted it stronger than ever! Now that things are opening back up again, things are starting to feel more “normal”. Graduation ceremonies are being planned and the Class of 2020 can breathe a sigh of relief that all is not lost. If there is anything that we’ve learned over the last two months, it’s that kindness, grace and compassion mean EVERYTHING. Yes, it’s a scary time…yes, we’re all living differently…yes, we all have our own opinions about the virus and the orders. But witnessing our community coming together to help those in need proves just how STRONG we are. We are honored to represent our community each and every day and pray that everyone stays safe and healthy. Reach out to us and let us know how you’re doing…let us know what we can do to help. We are here for you and WE ARE PROSPER!!

Unleash Your Inner Home Chef With many Americans staying home, the pressure is on to maintain fun and variety in the kitchen, so family meals don’t get boring. However, cranking out three meals a day can be a burden.

Have breakfast for dinner. Seemingly always a kid-friendly favorite, scramble some eggs, cook some bacon and get creative with pancakes, French toast or waffles by adding fruit, spices or chocolate chips.

In fact, the average American can only prepare five meals without a recipe, according to a OnePoll survey. Consider these fun tips to add a little diversity to your family’s daily menu.

If you learn new cooking methods, develop a larger menu and add some new dishes, eating at home can be fun and adventurous. Find more solutions at aquastar.com.

Build a taco bar. This is an easy way to use leftovers from the week. Pull out tortillas or make rice, add any leftover proteins and sides then mix in taco seasonings. Make a family classic. Think back to your childhood and the one or two dishes that became family favorites. Bust out those family cookbooks and recreate classics by having the kids help with age-appropriate tasks. Try a microwave-friendly meal. For those nights when no one can decide what to eat, or when you’re simply tired of cooking, turn to the microwave. One healthy option is Aqua Star’s MicroSteam Seafood Meals, which combine sustainable seafood, including salmon, shrimp, tilapia and cod, with on-trend ingredients like mafalda pasta, sriracha, red quinoa and yellow carrots. In the microwave, the film expands and locks in steam to cook food evenly in just 6 minutes without a “fishy” smell. Pull out the slow cooker. Being at home all day makes it even easier to prepare a good meal. Choose a recipe, throw it in the slow cooker in the morning and enjoy the delicious aromas as you wait for a meal that’s ready just in time for dinner. Try a meal kit. Meal kits are a fun way to switch up your regular repertoire. They’re tasty, easy to make with kids and many of them come frozen so you can stock up. Take, for example, Aqua Star’s Cutting Board meal kits, which come with all the ingredients required to prepare and clean up a high-quality and nutritious meal in 30 minutes or less. With flavors such as Cuban-style wild rockfish, crispy fish street tacos and sweet & spicy BBQ chicken flatbread, there’s plenty of options for family dinners. Order takeout or delivery. Many restaurants offer takeout options, and with all the delivery services that exist, eating favorite restaurant meals from the comfort of home is easy to do. 10 | WeAreProsper.com

Busting Common Cooking Myths Myth No. 1: Frozen is not as good as fresh. When it comes to nutritional value, frozen foods are packed and frozen at the food’s peak freshness, meaning they’re still full of nutrients. Myth No. 2: Cooking seafood is hard. Seafood is a healthy source of protein that can be steamed, baked, grilled or fried. Start with one technique and master it. An easy way to start is to saute shrimp or fish fillets in a bit of oil. Use the same technique as when you fry an egg and don’t overcook it. Myth No. 3: Fish should never be microwaved. Microwaving seafood can actually help preserve nutrients that are typically broken down when heated using other cooking methods. The key is to use steam: Place the fish in a microwaveable bag or choose one of the many ready-to-microwave selections in your grocer’s freezer section. Steaming fish in the microwave cooks fish evenly and preserves texture and taste.

We Prosper Together By Mayor Ray Smith

The month of May has always been marked by the excited anticipation of the arrival of summer. As the weeks of the month progress, our collective eagerness for those warm breezy days of summer intensifies. We begin thinking about taking advantage of every second of the lengthened days, wanting to fill them with those longed-for activities that serve to bring us together for fun, play and socializing. Except this year. While the restrictions for some businesses and activities have been loosened, there is still the anxiety of not knowing what’s in store for us. Many of us are still wary of stepping out too far from home, fearful that every cough, every headache, every labored breath could mean catastrophe. Being careful and thoughtfully cautious during the present time is something very personal, and each of us is following our own counsel on how far to venture, how bold to act, and how much is too much. While we hear differing, and sometime conflicting, opinions from friends and family, we should all listen to our inner voices, and do what we know to be best for us and our families. In this instance, following the crowd might not be our best option. While our community is generally composed of a younger demographic, there are many active adults that call Prosper home. Quite a few of these residents, many in their 60s, 70s, and beyond, are feeling anxious, scared, and apprehensive. They are more likely to stay home, or when out, wear masks. They may limit visits to their homes, even from relatives. If you know some active adults, please keep them in your thoughts, and if you can, reach out to them and offer your help. 12 | WeAreProsper.com

There are also residents of our community who are feeling extremely stressed over their jobs or businesses. While social distancing and other fight-the-virus measures are important, the consequences of these actions can have a negative effect on their livelihood. That’s the main reason we started the “We Prosper Together” campaign, a cooperative charitable giving program that benefits four local organizations including Cornerstone North Central Texas, Lovepacs Prosper, Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors, and the Prosper Ladies Association’s Summer Lunch Program. The campaign is a partnership among the Town, the Prosper Chamber of Commerce, the Prosper Rotary Club, and Atmos Energy, each providing either supportive services or cash donations. You can help by donating as well. Contact Cornerstone North Central Texas (https:// www.cornerstonenct.org/), Lovepacs Prosper (http://www.lovepacs.org/ prosper/), Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors (https://www.n3foodpantry. org/), or the Prosper Ladies Association (https://www.prosperladies. com/), and give what you can. Our citizens are in tremendous need and your donations will go towards feeding and clothing our neighbors. Summer is around the corner, but this year, things will be a little different. What I’m sure won’t change is our community’s generous and caring nature.

Prosper Fire Department Attains Coveted Recognized Status The Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) Best Practices Recognition Program has awarded the “Recognized Best Practices Fire Department” designation to the Prosper Fire Department following an exhaustive internal review that measured its level of adherence to a comprehensive list of best practices. The Fire Department was notified of the successful submission for the designation on May 5, and during a future Town Council meeting, the formal awarding will be symbolically accomplished. “We are, of course, extremely honored to receive this prestigious recognition,” says Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame. “This accomplishment could not have been possible without the hard work of the Fire Department staff as well as the unconditional support of our Mayor, Council, and Town Manager. With over 1,500 fire departments in the state, it’s an honor to be one of only 23 departments that have achieved this recognition.” For almost two years, the department embarked on a process of examining compliance in areas such as Administration and Organization, Emergency Medical Service, Fire Prevention, Risk Reduction, Community Outreach, Safety and Health, and Professional Standards and Conduct based on the more than 117 best business practices for fire departments in the State of Texas. These best practices were developed by Fire Service professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service to communities. “This designation is certainly not a surprise to anyone who is familiar with our Fire Department,” says Town Manager Harlan Jefferson. “The work, the training, the dedication, the professionalism from top to bottom are evident on a daily basis. Our residents and business owners already know the extremely high value of our Fire Department, and now the entire state of Texas is aware.” 14 | WeAreProsper.com

Photos by Jason Reynolds, Cedarbrook Media

The Recognized designation verifies that the Prosper Fire Department is using the most current best practices in the profession. It also means that the department is meeting its professional obligations to the Town’s residents and businesses. Upon completion of the department’s internal review, an outside audit and review was requested. The final on-site review was conducted by trained Fire Chiefs and Assistant Fire Chiefs from other areas of the state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Fire Chiefs Best Practices Recognition Board for final analysis, resulting in the decision to award the “Recognized” status to the local department. More information on the program can be found at: https://www. txfirechiefs.org/tfca_best_practices_recognition_program/.

How to Create a More Functional Laundry Room A laundry room may be one of the spaces that you use the most, but cramped quarters and clutter can hinder your productivity. Eliminate the excuses and get your laundry room under control with these tips to add function to your washing routine. Use Space Wisely. Your laundry room may not have a big footprint, but you probably have more usable space than you realize. Install shelves or storage units on the walls and consider the ceiling as a spot to hang a floating drying rack. Don’t overlook the back of the door, where you can mount a storage system or use an over-the-door alternative. Maximize Storage. Many laundry rooms suffer from a lack of storage, which hinders space to fold and manage laundry while making the room less pleasant overall. A durable, attractive organization system like Dimensions by ClosetMaid can add instant organization and style to your laundry room. The system provides numerous design options, convenient accessories and configurations of cabinets and drawers, accommodating virtually any space. Resist Wrinkles. Prevent unsightly wrinkles by hanging garments straight out of the dryer. A hanging rod is easy to install and lets you take advantage of vertical space in smaller rooms. Be sure to also stock up on hangers of various styles so you always have an ample supply ready when the buzzer sounds that another load is ready for your attention. Promote Ventilation. Another common issue in laundry rooms is limited ventilation, which can promote mold, affect air quality and hinder air drying for special garments. A clever way to enhance ventilation while increasing your storage space is ventilated shelving that helps keep air flow moving. For example, ClosetMaid’s Premium Wood Kits feature sturdy slatted shelves to stash your laundry essentials and can include accessories like hanging rods. Create a Folding Station. One of the biggest laundry pitfalls is folding and putting away clean clothes. A clear, clean space in the laundry room can help nudge you toward completing the task more efficiently. If you have front-loading machines, it may be as simple as adding a counter or sturdy shelf above them. If you use top-loaders, you may need to get more creative. If there’s room, a laundry sorter with a flat top is a good solution. Or if floor space is at a premium, you might consider a shelf that mounts to the wall and folds down when you need it. Get inspired with more ideas to make your laundry room work for you at ClosetMaid.com.

Send your landscaping and gardening questions to Jimmie Gibson Jr. at http://www.absolutelybushedlandscaping.com or jimmie@ absolutelybushed.com Jimmie is a Prosper resident and the owner of Absolutely Bushed Landscaping Company, an award winning, family and veteran owned and operated business created in 1980 to provide the highest quality custom Outdoor Renovation available to homeowners in the Dallas Ft. Worth area.

Introducing Your Children to Gardening Has the beginning of 2020 been a tad different that what you had planned? It certainly has been for our family, as well as most of the people that I talk to and connect with. It’s been a bit challenging to say the least…and a lot of folks are at home with their children all the sudden! Feels like we’re waking up in a new world, huh? Hopefully by the time you’re reading this, our Stay at Home Quarantine has been lifted and things are getting somewhat back to normal. However, they may not be and this may be the new normal for a while. If so, why not take advantage of this priceless time and introduce your children to gardening? Here are some tips below to help you! Get good quality child-sized garden tools. Have the child make a special ornament for his/her garden. Pick seeds that are easy to handle and plants that are easy and reliable such as Nasturtiums, Marigolds, Zinneas, Scarlet Runner Beans, Sunflowers, etc. Plant the children’s garden over several days, if necessary, to maintain attention. Start seeds inside under florescent light for slow growing flowers, because kids enjoy having things growing. Plant the child’s name using alfalfa seed or grass seed planted in a tray of cotton fluff or potting soil Have child decorate a Styrofoam cup as a face. Fill the cup with dirt and plant it with grass seed. As the grass grow the child can give it “haircuts”. Make stepping stones for the children’s garden that feature their hand &/or foot prints from concrete (add fiberglass filaments to strengthen for cold weather durability). Grow carrot tops by cutting off all but 1” of the carrot (potatoes, sweet 24 | WeAreProsper.com

potatoes, and other root vegetables work as well). Stick 4 toothpicks into carrot around sides and place over a cup of water with the carrot slightly into the water. Plant orange seeds to start an orange (grapefruit or lemon) tree for in your home. Save seeds of flowers (marigolds, sunflowers, etc) or vegetables (beans, pumpkins, etc.) to plant next year. Place seeds on paper plates until dry and store in a sealed jar until planting season. It is good to learn that we don’t have to buy seeds; we can find them and save them. Take cuttings together from ivies, geraniums, or other easy to root plants. Plant a terrarium together in an old aquarium or large glass bowl. In the garden, children like extremes. Plant huge sunflowers and other large plants in one area. In another area grow tiny plants-maybe make a “fairy garden”! Mini-Greenhouse You can make a mini greenhouse to start your plants using empty soda bottles…use green bottles if you can. If you only have clear bottles, punch some extra holes in them or they will get too hot inside and cook your plants. Cut the bottom off a 2-liter plastic soft drink bottle. Remove the label and the cap. Place the bottle right side up over your seedling and push it far enough into the top hold it upright. Once your plants have grown tall enough to touch the top of the inside of the bottle, remove the bottle. Don’t let the plant grow through the top you won’t be able to remove it and your plant will not thrive.

Make a Weather Station It’s important to pay attention to the weather in the summer as the weather affects the growth of plants. We have different weather patterns every year, so our plants grow differently every year. It is easy to put together a few things that help keep track of the weather so that you can write it down in a notebook…your very own weather journal! It’s important to keep the journal going so you can compare this year to last year or several years before. You will need: outside thermometer minimum/maximum thermometer (optional) sturdy pinwheel rain gauge Snow measuring stick (make your own with a yard stick mounted to a stake. The stake can secure it into the ground. Make sure the yard stick is touching the ground at 0.) Notebook or journal with pencil or pen attached with a string, so it doesn’t get lost. These items can be purchased inexpensively at many home supplies stores. Once you have purchased them, decide where your weather station will be. You may have to spread a few items around to have them in the ideal position. When placing the thermometers, make sure they are not in the sun. A place on the north of the house or in a shady area may be best. The pinwheel needs to be placed out in the open where the breeze or wind will blow on it. The rain gauge and the snow measuring stick also needs to be in the open for best measurement.

Once everything is in place take measurements daily. Check the rain gauge each morning. Check the temperature when it is at the hottest, about 4:00pm. The minimum/maximum thermometer is great for telling the highest and lowest temperature each day. Look at the pinwheel to see how strong the winds are, do they change during the day or evening? As you collect the information (or data), record it in your journal. Each day could have a piece of a page with all the information written out. Have fun with your weather station. Maybe one day you’ll become a meteorologist! Question: Jimmie, my favorite color is blue! I never see any blue flowers…does this flower exist? If so, can you lead me in the right direction or am I asking for the impossible? Thank You for your time, I know you are a busy man! -Lindsey in Prosper Answer: Hi Lindsey! Well, believe it or not you’re in luck! Check out Blue Daze, Plumbago, Balloon Flower, Victoria Blue or Evolution Blue Salvia, and even a blue Hydrangea (but with our alkaline soil it will eventually turn Pink). Hopefully, you can fulfill your “Blue” flower craving with one or more of those choices! Until next time…Happy Gardening with those kids and many blessings to all! -Jimmie

Taste of Summer A Menu Made for Summer Indulgence

A summer weekend isn’t complete until you fire up the grill, but flame-kissed steaks are just the start to an unforgettable meal that celebrates all the best of the season. To create the perfect main dish, start with high-quality protein, like Omaha Steaks’ Private Reserve Boneless New York Strips. Thick, juicy and full of flavorful marbling, these premier steaks are meticulously aged for optimal taste and tenderness with robust, beefy flavor brought out when cooked properly on the grill. If you’re opting for burgers, elevate your menu with flavorful accompaniments like crisp candied bacon, sautéed shrimp and zesty homemade pickles for a menu you won’t soon forget. CANDIED BACON 1 pound (1 package) Omaha Steaks Applewood Smoked Steak-Cut Bacon 1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper 1 cup packed light brown sugar Heat oven to 375 F. Place wire rack on foil-lined baking sheet. Place strips of bacon on wire rack and sprinkle with black pepper. Lightly pat brown sugar on top of bacon in thin layer. Place baking sheet on center rack in oven and bake 25 minutes, or until brown sugar melts and bacon is crisp. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes. Using tongs, transfer bacon to parchment-lined baking sheet and cool to room temperature. Store in airtight container up to 3 days at room temperature.

QUICK PICKLES 1/2 cup white vinegar 2 teaspoons sugar 1 teaspoon mustard seed 1 teaspoon salt 1 clove garlic, crushed 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) 1 teaspoon dried dill, chopped, or 2 tablespoons fresh dill leaves 1 bay leaf 4 cucumbers, cut into angled 1-inch slices Heat small saucepan over medium high heat. Add vinegar, sugar, mustard seed, salt, garlic and red pepper flakes, if desired; cook until mixture begins to simmer and sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. In heat-proof bowl, toss dill, bay leaf and sliced cucumbers. Pour simmering liquid over cucumbers and stir to evenly coat. Cool to room temperature or chill before serving. Note: Pickles may be made up to 3 days in advance. Refrigerate in covered non-reactive container.

DRY-BRINED NEW YORK STRIPS WITH GRILLED BROWN BUTTER BALSAMIC ONIONS Dry Brine: 4 tablespoons Kosher salt 1 tablespoon coarse ground pepper 4 (11-ounce) Omaha Steaks Private Reserve Boneless New York Strips, thawed Butter and Balsamic: 4 tablespoons salted butter 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 2 teaspoons fresh thyme Grilled Onions: 2 large sweet onions 4 wooden skewers, soaked 1 tablespoon olive oil To make dry brine: Combine salt and pepper; season steaks generously on all sides. Place steaks on elevated rack on baking sheet and refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight. To make butter and balsamic: Heat small skillet to medium high heat. Add butter and cook until butter begins to brown and smell nutty. Remove from heat and add balsamic vinegar and thyme. Set aside.

CONNECTICUT-STYLE SHRIMP 4 tablespoons unsalted butter 2 tablespoons chives 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 12 large, cleaned, uncooked Omaha Steaks Wild Argentinian Red Shrimp Heat medium skillet to medium-high heat. Add butter; cook until melted. Add chives, salt, pepper and shrimp to pan. Cook 2 minutes, turn shrimp and cook 2 minutes, or until shrimp is opaque and cooked through. Remove from heat and serve.

To make grilled onions: Peel off outer layers of onions. Slice into 1/2inch slices. Lay onions on flat surface. Push skewers through centers of onions; two onion slices per skewer. Brush onions with olive oil and season with salt and pepper, to taste. To cook steaks and onions: Make two-zone fire on charcoal grill with coals on one side and no coals on the other. Place onions on cool side of grill; flip and rotate every 10 minutes until golden brown, approximately 25-30 minutes. Total time will depend on how hot coals are and how close onions are to fire. When onions are golden and tender, brush with brown butter balsamic mixture. On hot side of grill, during last 15 minutes of cook time for onions, cook steaks to desired temperature. When steaks are 5 F from desired temperature, remove from grill and let rest 5-10 minutes. Remove onions from grill. Carefully remove onions from skewers and place in serving dish. Top with remaining brown butter balsamic mixture and serve with steaks. Find more ideas for upgrading the grilling experience in your own backyard at OmahaSteaks. com.

How to Style Shorts for Your Shape Sgo-to summer saviors—an easy staple for endless outfit combos. But, let’s be real, not all

horts are the hero of your summer wardrobe. They can be dressed up or down, and are

shorts are created equal. Get the 411 on which shorts best flatter your figure and fit your style. PRINTED SHORTS Your shorts can walk the walk, but can they talk the talk? Try a pair in a fun conversation-starting pattern to find out. Printed shorts are a great way to liven up any look. We recommend this fit for our petite gals—prints are always going to draw attention, so let them. “Try mixing patterns with a similar color palette for a style that screams summer fun.” LINEN SHORTS Give your legs some room to breathe with a pair of linen shorts. An A-line tie waist, like this pair, is great for an athletic or apple shape. Try pairing these easy-breezy shorts with a contrasting pop of color—the brights and neutrals will make your legs appear longer. CUT-OFF SHORTS Move aside, Daisy Duke! Cut-offs are pretty universal at this point. Wear them short to show off your legs if they’re your main feature, or wear them longer, just above your knee. Cut-offs are a fabulous and casual staple to wear throughout the summer, no matter your shape. CHINO SHORTS The most structured style in the shorts family, chinos are great for athletic and petite figures. A more rigid fabric creates the appearance of a structured silhouette, so balance out your look with a flowy top and some easy-to-wear slides. “Chinos are usually the most acceptable type of short to wear in a professional environment. If your office allows shorts during the summer, try a pair that hits mid-thigh or just above the knee.” BERMUDA SHORTS For thicker thighs, try a minimal pattern and a slightly longer length—like the bermuda. Bermudas are perfect for our pear-shaped & hourglass-shaped gals. Try this style with a blouse that skims the waistline of your shorts to show off your waist—one with a tie front is a flattering way to show off that coveted hourglass shape. CARGO SHORTS Yes, cargo shorts. You can rock them—hear us out. They are great for any body type, and especially helpful for those of us who have thicker thighs (goodbye, chub rub). The mid-rise and thick waistband help to create a streamlined silhouette and a very practical look. Not sure about shorts but still want to try some cargo? Try incorporating cargo into your look in different ways like with a dress or a blouse. No matter your style or fit, always remember that you can rock anything you want. The key to pulling off any look is your attitude, so if you like it? Wear it! Don’t sell yourself short (pun very much intended). “Add a few feminine elements to your look, like a chic peasant blouse, and play with textures with your accessories.” Article compliments of Stitch Fix. 5 Ideas for a Virtual Family Adventure

dream vacation is the perfect antidote to stress and the monotony of daily life. When a getaway isn’t in the cards, you can still escape and explore new places virtually. A virtual trip can be a great way to explore destinations you might consider for a future vacation, or it may be a chance to see remarkable sights around the world that you wouldn’t get to experience otherwise. Virtual travel can also engage kids in learning when you pair the experience with lessons on culture, geography or even a homemade take on local culinary treats.

A

Add authenticity to the experience with special touches that mimic the ambiance. If you’re visiting the beach, kick up the heat and turn on a fan for some breeze. Light a coconut-scented candle and enjoy a bowl of ice cream while you take in the sights. Get your virtual adventures underway with these selections from the travel experts at Vrbo: Look around the Louvre in Paris. Explore the Egyptian Antiquities, remains of the Louvre’s Moat and Galerie d’Apollon by virtual museum tour as you head inside this iconic art lover’s institution. Sneak inside the San Diego Zoo. Get up close and personal with the resident apes, penguins, pandas, giraffes, elephants and tigers in real time via one of the many live cams positioned to spot wildlife from the comfort of your couch.

Walk the Great Wall of China. Make your Great Wall goals a reality. Get a glimpse of this 300-mile wonder of the world with a cyber stroll before dreaming up your own future family trip. Watch big wave surfing in Maui. Transport yourself to the beach as you watch white-knuckle surfing at its most surreal. Whether you’re a super fan or first-time spectator of the sport, it’s a compelling beach-cam watch and a welcome escape from the everyday. Travel 352 million miles to Mars. Feel a world away as you explore Mars from aboard NASA’s Curiosity Rover. Learn as you roam between its different mission sites for a virtual, yet realistic, view of the Red Planet’s remarkable landscape. For families who miss traveling together, you can share the joys of your virtual journey through videoconferencing and adding some extra ambiance and a change of scenery by downloading a travel wallpaper for your meeting background. If the virtual destinations inspire you to visit in person someday, use resources like Vrbo’s Trip Boards to create a list of places to stay as soon as you can get away, and keep the dream going by sending the link to family members and asking them to vote and comment on their favorites.
