Make Quality Time Thanksgiving’s Secret Ingredient erhaps more than usual, the centerpiece this Thanksgiving won’t be Pcasserole the turkey, the stuffing or even family-famous recipes for sweet potato or pumpkin pie. Instead, when gathering around a table with
loved ones, the precious moments of togetherness will be what many families treasure most. This year, give yourself permission to savor the holiday and all its pleasures as a participant, rather than a harried host. Make the prep part of the party. If you’re hosting a small group of friends or family, invite a few guests over early to fill your kitchen with laughter and plenty of able hands to help prepare the meal. If space is at a premium, enlist help by asking guests to do some of the prep work at home or simply plan a potluck meal with everyone bringing a dish that’s ready to serve. Ditch cleanup duty. More casual celebrations are in the plans for 65% of people this season, according to a survey conducted by the Chinet® brand, and more than 80% of respondents agreed using disposable tableware can help reduce stress that may arise during the holiday season. Cleanup may be a necessary evil after a large Thanksgiving meal, but it need not take hours from your day. Instead, rely on a disposable option like Chinet Classic White plates, which are strong enough to serve the heaviest, messiest meals with style. The convenient, microwave-safe line makes cleanup easy since you can simply toss them when you’re done. For example, dinner and compartment plates and trays are perfect for enjoying fullscale meals along with platters, bowls and napkins. Or, if your family prefers a more casual get-together with snacks and treats, appetizer and dessert plates offer easy ways for guests to serve themselves.
8 | WeAreProsper.com
Stick to the essentials. Instead of giving into your urge to serve everyone’s favorites, limit your menu to a few crowd-pleasers. One style of stuffing will do, and it’s unlikely anyone will notice if you skip a few sides. Tone it down to the must-haves and let the others fall away. You may be surprised by how much time you can save. After all, you probably don’t need five different pies when you’ll end up serving just a slice or two from each.
Shop for shortcuts. If there is a dish or two that everyone counts on, go ahead and honor tradition. Otherwise, shop for time-trimming alternatives at the store. The salad bar typically offers a wealth of prepped ingredients like chopped onion and crumbled bacon, and there are a wide range of prepared foods you can simply heat and serve. Also check into the deli’s holiday specials; many stores offer bulk orders of freshly prepared items like mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and salads.
WAYNE BARTLEY
Simpler serving. Using your fine china can lead to a time-consuming effort in both setting it all out and cleaning those dishes at the end of the night. With an option like Chinet Cut Crystal plates, cups and wineglasses, you can add a touch of style to any event. The fully coordinated line of tableware allows you to dine in style then toss it all and move on to enjoying the rest of the day.
Make Way for New Traditions Although there’s plenty of comfort to be found in holiday traditions, this year is the perfect excuse to mix things up a little and infuse some new ideas into your celebration. Pass on family recipes. A traditional turkey dinner complete with a variety of seasonal sides and desserts is a staple for many families. To help ensure the tradition continues, use the extra time you may have together to teach older children how to prepare specific dishes that have been passed down through the generations. You could also have different family members like siblings or adult children take over making specific dishes, such as the turkey or pumpkin pie. Share your good fortune. It’s been a rough year for many, in several different ways. If you and yours are able, dedicating a portion of your day to helping those who’ve fared worse can be a powerful bonding experience. Not only do you share the feel-good vibes that come from helping others, the experience can open your eyes to the many blessings you and your loved ones share.

Add group entertainment. If your family’s norm is to scatter as soon as the meal is done, or to scarf down a plate before returning to the gridiron action, look for ways to bring everyone together. Organize a board game tournament or gather a group to take a walk through the neighborhood and reminisce. Learn a new skill. Discover something new about your loved ones by inviting one or two (or more) to share a special skill with the group. You can develop a new appreciation after an afternoon chatting while learning how to crochet, perform magic card tricks or make DIY decor for the holiday season. Make a game of giving thanks. Ask each guest to jot down something they’re thankful for as they arrive. Later, after everyone has settled in, take turns drawing the cards, reading them aloud and letting everyone guess whose good tidings they’re hearing. It can be an easy way to catch up and allow you to celebrate special moments with one another.

How to spend added time making memories
Making time to reconnect with loved ones is a wish topping many lists this holiday season, so set aside the chaos and commit to doing more this year. More of what you truly enjoy, that is.
potatoes are a notorious last-minute time suck, so make them early in the day and keep them warm in a slow cooker. Just add a bit of cream and stir periodically to keep them soft and fluffy.
These time-saving holiday hacks from the Chinet® brand can help curb your time commitments so you can focus on personal connections and celebrating good cheer with loved ones instead.
Simplify cleanup.
Spread out prep time. If you’re busy putting the final touches on a meal as guests begin to arrive, you’ll miss out on the excitement as the party begins. Rely on tricks to spread your meal preparation out over the days before your event, such as making sides and casseroles ahead of time and freezing them so all you have to do on the big day is pop them in the oven. Mashed 10 | WeAreProsper.com
After enjoying a meal surrounded by loved ones, there’s no reason to halt the conversation while you slip away to bring order back to the kitchen. Cover dishes and put perishables away then return to your guests for the quality time you deserve. If you use disposable tableware, there’s even less to worry about later. For example, Chinet Classic White products make cleanup easy so you can spend more time with friends, family and guests. The plates and bowls are strong enough to serve the heaviest, messiest meals with style then you can simply toss them when you’re done.
Shop local for shortcuts. Local businesses are feeling the crunch of 2020 in a big way, but you can give them a boost while doing yourself a time-saving favor. Pick up a pie or specialty dessert from a local bakery. Inquire about family-size sides from the family restaurants in your community. Also remember to check with school-age children you know, as many seasonal fundraisers offer pre-made holiday desserts and other treats you can share with guests with minimal effort.
LIVE NATIVITY
Get out of the house. If you’ve spent too much time this year looking at your own surroundings, getting away from it all may lift your spirits while saving the hours you’d pour into getting your home ready for entertaining. Community groups with their own facilities often have space available to rent, and these spaces are typically large enough to maintain social distancing requirements and are subject to rigorous cleaning protocols. Alternately, if you’re keeping the guest list small, renting a vacation home offers the opportunity to turn the seasonal celebration into a short road trip for added memories and joy. With some simple decorations, you can create a fun atmosphere for your holiday event and skip the headaches of hosting at home. Go short and sweet. If the idea of a full-fledged dinner event is stretching you too thin, look for festive ways to scale back. For example, a dessert-only party lets you gather with loved ones and keep the focus on the company rather than the food. Plan themed stations with different styles of desserts and consider asking family members to help stock each station with their own favorite treats. Add a touch of style by placing a stack of Chinet Cut Crystal dessert plates at each station so guests can sample all their favorites while they mingle. The collection also includes cups and stemless wine glasses ideal for a beverage table or single servings of desserts like mousse or parfaits.

CELEBRATE LIKE IT’S 2020 After a whirlwind of a year, this holiday season promises to be a little different than those of years past. Instead of lamenting what won’t be the same, treat this year as an opportunity to deck the halls in a whole new way. Invite technology to the party. With group gatherings and travel restrictions likely to continue in many parts of the country through the holiday season, there’s a good chance you may not be able to gather with everyone you’d like. However, the pandemic has shown how simple it can be to use technology to stay connected. Go ahead and schedule a virtual party or make time to jump on a video chat during your celebration to include those who can’t be there in person. To help add a touch of normalcy to the festivities, consider packaging and sending small boxes of party essentials in advance to each person who’ll join the virtual party.
ATHLETIC RECOVERY WELLNESS PAIN RELIEF BEAUTY
Make giving a group effort. Helping those in need is a tradition many people honor around the holidays, but this year your giving is likely to be especially impactful. When you join efforts with family or friends, your contributions can go even further, and it’s a way to bond over your shared experience. Consider volunteering as a group at a food pantry, adopting a family or two together or finding another local cause that could use some extra help and count your blessings while you enjoy the extra time together. Simplify gift-giving. As families grow, the gift lists get longer. However, especially in a year like this, not many wallets have expanded to keep up with the pace. Forgo the time and money required to buy for everyone in the family and start a new tradition by drawing names and instead of buying smaller items for a lot of people, put a little more toward a single item your recipient truly wants or needs.

From the Desk of
To Truly Connect, We Must Find Times to Disconnect
Dr. Holly Ferguson
I
have found myself paying closer and closer attention to those around me most recently. I see a challenge and a disruption in life due to a lack of social engagement. It’s a broad term that is relevant to almost all aspects of daily life and routine. My father is one of the best storytellers I know, and he has never struggled with engaging with complete strangers. No matter where he is or what he is doing he can easily strike up a conversation. This might be because he still has a flip phone, but I think it is more because he truly loves to engage with those around him. He loves to make people laugh through a simple story. Unfortunately, the world we live in today struggles with the ability to authentically connect with those around them. The social aspect of our youth today is not a face to face conversation or confrontation; it’s between screen to screen. Social media has become such a common way of communication today that people have become somewhat “trapped” in our devices and social media. Our youth can efficiently type a question or a statement to another with a breeze, but when it comes to real-life social interaction, those actions seem less and less simple as time goes on. People seem more than welcome to speak freely behind a device, but when it comes to real-life, nothing seems to be the same because people don’t live up to what they are willing to say in front of a real-life person. The Prosper Education Foundation most recently sponsored Collin Kartchner in Prosper ISD for a message designed for students and parents regarding technology. The information he shared with parents in the evening was frightening. Our children need connections and relationships that do not get disrupted by a simple device. We need more time away from technology and far more time face to face. Social interaction needs to become more prevalent for the next generation to thrive. Mr. Kartchner shared that hugging our children for 8 seconds 8 times a day is a necessity for a child to be in balance mentally and emotionally. Following Mr. Kartchner’s presentation many of our teens shared that they did not remember that last time they were hugged. Alarming and heartbreaking to think that a device has replaced true human connection and love. It’s a growing epidemic with a negative trend, though the technology is fantastic in its way. It is hugely diminishing of the wholesome roots 12 | WeAreProsper.com
of livelihood and childhood. We see it today in the modern teens and children. The best way to manage this crazed addiction and trend towards always being connected is to disconnect. This disconnection also needs to be at bedtime. So many of our children are sent to bed with their phones and this is one of the gravest mistakes a parent can make. We all need time to be away from what we obsess about and seek more traditional and original activities that relieve us, provide us rest, and remind us of the values in our own homes. We need to be seeking individual values similar to one another, and I believe it’s directly correlated with technology; it takes such a large portion out of the average person’s day. It causes many to take away from activities that should be engaging and meaningful while creating memories. The technological obsession drives us from so many things we could potentially thrive in. Sometimes, as humans, time to ourselves and time with our loved ones is more meaningful than being so attached to social life’s connective aspect. Technology will always be here, and it’s the future, but it’s up to us to be our enforcers and find time for those traditional engagements with the things we love most. A few changes you can make now: Hug your child/children and look them in the eye. Make the hug last for 8 seconds. If you are allowing your child to have their phone in their bedroom break the routine. Your child might tell you they need the alarm clock on their phone. Don’t fall victim, go buy an old school alarm clock and take the phone overnight. Be willing to put your own device away if you are asking your child to do so. We are the model as parents.
Together we are stronger. We are Prosper! We are one!

A Thank You Letter from Councilman Curry Vogelsang
Wow! I want to “Thank you, Prosper” for allowing me to serve you for the past nine years as one of your Town Council members. Our Town has almost tripled in size since 2011. The memories of old have merged with our dreams for tomorrow. The days of gravel roads winding by Prospering Farms have changed to four or six lane concrete thoroughfares to handle our growth in traffic. A run to the Texaco or Exxon for a last minute item has changed to name brand grocery stores and growing commercial developments. It was meeting friends at the football game on Friday night, breakfast at the Cotton Gin on Saturday morning, and then coming together to worship on Sunday. A phrase commonly heard was “I moved to Prosper as quickly as I could, but can we lock the door behind us !?!” Prosper is a place where you could let your kids explore in the creeks of the neighborhoods knowing everyone was looking after all of them. It was friends driving up your driveway to say “Hi” even though you had your Christmas lights sprawled out and not caring because it was great to see them. It was working together at all the Vacation Bible Schools throughout the town to build those friendships. It was community volunteers working together in building the playground at Frontier Park. Prosper has always had an excellence in its people that genuinely cared, loved, laughed, helped, and served one another. Fast forward nine years and this excellence continues in making Prosper unique in its town facilities, parks, schools, its first responders, its staff, and its people. You can just feel the difference when you are in town. The dreams of these ideals gave me the inner desire and direction to serve you and our Town while working with others to ensure we continue to make this an excellent place to live and raise our families. 14 | WeAreProsper.com
What a journey and pleasure it has been to work with your Town Council members, your Town Staff, Town boards and committees, and of course with you. We have accomplished so many things: a new police station, a new fire station, a new Town Hall, a new library, new residential and commercial developments, and new traditions. This unique vision paired with the great historical traditions and friendships have made this journey with you so worthwhile. We are just at the beginning. With our mottos “A Place Where Everyone Matters” and “In God We Trust”, the future is bright to continue to make Prosper a unique gem in North Texas and a community of people that new families will seek to become a part. Andrea and I love Prosper and its people. We are not going anywhere, but we look forward in working with you to continue on our unique vision quest. May God bless you, your families, and the Town of Prosper. With appreciation and many thanks, Curry Vogelsang, Jr. 1 Peter 4:8-10: Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

CORNERSTONE NEEDS YOUR VOTE!
CORNERSTONE CHRISTMAS 2020
Cornerstone has been named a FINALIST for the 2021 Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Award! The award is worth up to $150,000 and would allow them to assist an additional 100 families in 2021. The Chick-fil-A at Windsong Ranch nominated them earlier this year and Cornerstone then completed the grant application in June. They are now one of six nonprofits nationally!!
Due to Covid-19 concerns, Cornerstone Christmas cannot be held in person this year. But, as with many things in 2020, they are pivoting to a new event model that is designed with community health in mind. Please be assured, the core principles of Cornerstone Christmas dignity for Neighbor families and the Christmas morning surprise for the kids - remains unchanged.
Here is where the people of Prosper can help! The third step of the process is to get the community involved…THEY NEED VOTES!! The winner is based solely on community votes…and voting ends on November 21st. Cornerstone is asking each member of our community to VOTE – and tell your friends, your family, and anyone else you randomly meet to vote as well. Share it on social media and urge your friends and followers to vote – anyone across the country can vote.
For the 2020 version of Cornerstone Christmas, Neighbors will attend one of three events in early December where they will shop for gifts from a special online store created just for them! Then they will return for a drive-thru pickup event where they will receive the gifts they have chosen, wrapped by special elves and ready for Christmas morning, along with sweatshirts, stockings, decorations, and food for the holidays. Although this year’s event will be different in execution, it will be the LARGEST Christmas event ever! There are 351 children that Cornerstone is planning to help have an amazing Christmas! In order to pull this off, all children’s gifts must be donated by early November. Each year YOU have been amazing and help these families have a wonderful Christmas and there is no doubt this year will be the same.
On the Chick-fil-A App: Sign in or create a Chick-fil-A One account in the Chick-fil-A App and select “Rewards” from the options on the bottom of the screen Once in the “Rewards” section on the App, select “News” on the top left of the screen
Please visit www.CornerstoneNCT.org to see which gifts are still needed. Or, if you don’t have time to hit the stores, you can also purchase gifts off of the Target Wish List or the Amazon Wish List. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for the event and as always, the need for volunteers will be huge. Be sure to follow the Cornerstone social media pages for all of these opportunities!
Click the “Vote Now” button Select region – “Southwest” Cast your vote for Cornerstone Four of the six finalist will receive between $50,000 and $150,000, as well as national recognition from Chick-fil-A. A grant of $100,000 would allow Cornerstone to work with 100 additional families next year. This includes assisting families with rents, utilities, and other bills, as well as putting them through the budgeting and job placement program. It would be a significant gift to receive and would bless so many people in the Prosper community.

Get Your Home Ready for Work and School this Winter Although preparing your home for winter is a fairly consistent process year-to-year, many homes have seen significantly more use this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. If your home will serve as your office or school throughout the winter months, it’s important to address issues that may have been noticed but tolerable during winters past. Consider these tips from the experts at the National Association of the Remodeling Industry to help ensure your home is ready before winter weather strikes. Improve Indoor Air Quality Beyond proper physical and structural considerations of winter preparations, the increased daily usage of your home naturally increases the importance of indoor air quality. Since windows and doors will likely be closed more often, moisture levels within your home can be significantly affected. Use a humidifier, if necessary, to maintain a relative humidity between 45-50%, which is healthier and can feel more comfortable. It can also keep wooden doors and windows functioning properly and wood furniture and floors looking good. by a professional before you need to rely on it to heat your home in the dead of winter. If you’re not leaving the house and turning down the thermostat each day, this will be especially important this year. Regular tune-ups can prolong your furnace’s life, help prevent carbon monoxide leaks and ensure your unit is working at maximum efficiency. If a wholehouse humidifier is included as part of the heating system, also inspect the humidifier and replace the element, if necessary. Seal Leaks Around Windows and Doors Air infiltration is one of the largest culprits of reductions in a home’s efficiency. Small air leaks can add up to significant heat loss and a corresponding increase in energy consumption. If replacing window screens with storm windows and installing a storm door on your house isn’t realistic, increase energy efficiency by sealing gaps around window and door moldings with caulk to help keep heat from escaping. If any pipes or ducts travel through an exterior wall of your home, you can also use caulking and weather-stripping to help block potential entry points for cold air. Check Your Gutters Improper drainage away from the home is one of the biggest causes of water leaking into basements and crawlspaces. Gutters and downspouts have the single purpose of routing water away from your home to

help prevent damage to your foundation. Once leaves have fallen and before the first snow, ensure your gutters are properly secured and clear of debris. Clogged gutters can lead to improper drainage and potential overflow, ice damming or other water-related issues. Also adjust downspouts so they direct water at least 5 feet from the house to help minimize the possibility of water run-off back toward the foundation. Prep the Plumbing When water freezes, it expands. Any residual water in pipes that is exposed to freezing temperatures, including interior lines located in exterior walls or unheated areas, can burst. Start by disconnecting hoses and shutting off exterior faucets, draining any water that remains in them and storing hoses indoors to prevent cracks. Drain any other pipes, valves or in-ground sprinklers that may be exposed to the elements and, for an extra layer of protection, wrap water spigots with covers to prevent damage. Sometimes a simple trick like keeping a cabinet door cracked open to allow warm air into the space can prevent frozen pipes. Considering a Fall or Winter Container for your Home? P
lanting a container garden couldn’t be easier. All you need is potting soil, plants and slow release fertilizer. That said, there are some things it’s helpful to know before you get started. Make Sure Your Container has Enough Drainage Drainage may be the single biggest factor on whether your plants live or die. Make sure that your pot has a big enough hole or holes in the bottom to let excess water drain away. There are many garden pots sold in stores that have one tiny hole in the bottom that will not let enough water escape, so you will either have to be very careful in watering the pot, or even better, you should add more holes. If your pot is metal, you can poke holes by using a hammer with either a large nail or screwdriver. If your pot is ceramic, it can be a little more difficult to add holes, but I’ve had good luck using a drill with a ceramic bit. Don’t forget to wear safety goggles, because it is common for piece of the container or dust to fly around and you don’t want to risk getting them in your eyes. Remember, the more holes the better drainage. Many more plants are killed by drowning than not enough water, although I have done my share of plant murder by both so don’t feel bad. The second part of the drainage equation is keeping the soil in while letting the water out. I like to use window screening over the holes, but I have also used coffee filters, paper towels and even newspaper in the bottom of my pots. Whatever you do though, avoid the suggestion to put gravel in the bottom of your pots to increase drainage. It doesn’t work, and in fact is it can be counterproductive. It is also a good idea to elevate your pots, so that the water isn’t blocked from exiting out of the drainage holes. There are any number of ways to elevate your plants, but pot feet are the easiest. Remove Your Plants from Their Nursery Pots Carefully When I first started gardening 40 years ago, I would grab it by the stem and pull to get it out of its pot. Often, I would just pull the top of the plant off sometimes killing it before I even got started. To avoid this, if you have a six pack of plants, that is made of flexible plastic, hold the plant close to the soil surface. I make a “v” out of my fingers and place them on either 20 | WeAreProsper.com
side of the stem and squeeze the plants out of their holder from the bottom. If the plant is in a nursery pot, try pushing it out from the bottom. If it is root bound, you may have tear or cut any roots off that are sticking out the bottom hole of the pot and slide a knife around the inside of the pot, before the plant will slide out. In extreme cases, you may have to break the pot to free the plant due to being root bound. If your plant is root bound, make sure to break up the plant’s roots, either by tearing them or cutting them. Some people simply rough up the roots on the outside by rubbing them, but I’m a little more aggressive and often tear or cut a compacted root ball so the roots will be able to grow freely, not in a circular pattern, which can strangle a plant. Mix Fertilizer into Your Soil It took me years to realize that I was starving my plants to death. Most plants need food to survive and the easiest way I’ve found to provide food is to mix a slow release fertilizer into your potting soil before planting your container. I use a granular all-purpose fertilizer into my soil. I also then feed my plants with a diluted, liquid fertilizer every week or every other week during the growing season. Planting There are two main things to know when planting a plant in a container, or anywhere else for that matter. You want to plant it at the same level that it sits in its nursery pot. So, in other words, the level of the soil should stay the same and no more or less of the plant’s stem or crown should be covered. You also want to make sure there are no air pockets and your plants’ roots are surrounded by soil. In a crowded pot, sometimes it is difficult to put soil in between the plants, but you will need to make sure that you do, or the roots will dry out if they are in an air pocket, and your plant can die. Sometimes you just need to feel around a crowded pot and stuff soil into any holes you feel. It’s also a good idea to water a pot right after you plant it, which settles the soil. At that point you can go back and fill in any holes or depressions with extra soil. Caring for Your Container Garden Watering is more art than science. You will need to know what conditions

your plant or plants prefer. However, the majority of plants like to be kept in moist soil--not wet-but damp. To figure out if your plants need water, you can stick your finger down into the soil, up to the second knuckle. If your finger tip feels dry, add water. Be sure to water slowly and make sure the water is going to your plant’s roots--not bouncing off the soil and running down a space that can form when the soil contracts, between the soil and the inside of your pot. You want to water deeply so the water gets all the way down to the plant’s roots, the best way to know if you’ve accomplished this is to water until it starts to run out the bottom of your container. I have had an overwhelming amount of questions from readers the last month! More than I can address here so will respond to you guys personally. Until next time...Happy Gardening!! Weekday To Weekend Sweater Dressing Finally! It’s sweater weather. This season, we’re loving the mash-up of various textures, fabrics and fits. From chunky sweaters and cable knits to plush pullovers and mock turtlenecks, sweaters are the easiest way to update your cold-weather wardrobe. We say the more the merrier, but really, just one sweater styled multiple ways can take your look from pulled-together weekday go-getter to casual lounge-loving weekender. THE CLASSIC CABLE The next best thing to hitting the snooze button and crawling under the covers on a chilly weekday morning? Wearing a super soft cable knit sweater in a dreamy creamy color. This timeless pattern feels very of-the-moment when paired with a mid-length skirt, plush suede booties and a colorful clutch. The combination says smart and professional, yet not too buttoned-up. Swap the skirt for a pair of black leggings and thigh-high boots, and you’re set for Saturday night. THE STATEMENT SLEEVE SWEATER Nothing says fall like a palette of leaf-turning hues. Go for colors that don’t necessarily match but do complement each other. Top a pair of olive denim pants with a statement-sleeve, burnt orange sweater and finish with contrast-heel black booties. Add an on-trend animal-print and you have instant style “savoir faire.” (That’s French for “know-how” and English for “know wow!”). Create your own unique version of this look and be weekday- or weekend-ready for anything. THE CHUNKY KNIT Raised, marbled, pebbly, or fuzzy––texture adds visual interest and dimension to your outfit. Especially if you sport a chunky sweater in a spirited hue that sits front and center. Surround it with neutrals: a simple thin-striped cotton button-down that doesn’t compete with the same-patterned knit skirt, even if you let it peek out (for a touch of old-school yet very “now” prep). Complete the look with a pair of stacked-heel booties and a taupe and black cross-body bag. Swap the skirt for a pair of distressed cropped jeans for an instant weekend-worthy dress-down. THE TRIED & TRUE TURTLENECK Whether close-fitting or slightly oversized, a turtleneck adds a sophisticated 70s minimalistic vibe to any outfit (the wider the neck, the better). We love a soft beige, loose-fit, box-cut sweater paired with a contrasting bright blue, textured mini skirt. Dainty pointed flats pair well with the shorter skirt length. Top it all off with a heavy-duty coat. Add tights and booties if you’re still feeling the chill, or swap in black-wash jeans for a weekend-worthy look. THE SOPHISTICATED SWEATER DRESS The chic cameleon, a sweater dress is like no other dress in your closet (stretchy and figure flattering at the same time). Pair it with an always-modern moto jacket and take your look from office hours to after hours in the time it takes you slip it on, ditch your pumps for booties and grab your snakeskin tote. THE NOT-BE-KNOCKED MOCK TURTLENECK It may have gotten a bad rap in the early 80s and 90s, but the mock turtleneck, with its pretty, necklengthening silhouette, is back on track this season. Loose-fitting and low-key, it’s the perfect antidote to a hectic week. Pair it with boyfriend jeans and a blanket scarf soft enough to make you want to curl up on the couch with a favorite book. Feeling antsy? Throw on a jacket and tennies, and stroll to brunch with your besties. THE HIP HOODIE SWEATER Weekends were made for sporting something soft and comfy––like a sweater, leggings and loads of layers (particularly if you’re looking for creative ways to save on your heating bill!). A favorite go-to this season, athleisure wear says kick-back and relaxed, but still looks polished and put together. Stick with a neutral legging (black is the be-all, end-all) and top it with a super soft, hooded pullover layered under a striped knit top. Step outdoors in a nubby fleece jacket, sleek sneaks, and a stylishly small backpack. One sweater, many options, or dare we say, many sweaters, even more outfits! Either way, ask your Stylist for a few of these toasty toppers. Article compliments of Stitch Fix. Visit http://www.stitchfix.com to schedule your fix!

COMMON CAUSES OF ROSACEA By Dr. Michael McGuiness, McGuiness Dermatology & Aesthetics
Experts do not know why certain people develop rosacea. There are a lot of theories, yet none of these have been proven to be the reason why this condition develops in some people, but not in others. Part of the problem is that two people can have very similar health, very similar allergies and very similar skin types, and yet one will exhibit symptoms of rosacea, whereas the other one will not. What experts do know is that there are certain triggers that may lead to rosacea flare-ups. For this reason, the medical community focuses a lot of its energy on helping rosacea sufferers identify triggers and lifestyle factors that lead to flare-ups and help them to avoid these things. This being said, triggers for flare-ups are very personal and very individual. What triggers a flare-up in one person might not trigger one in another individual. There are some common trigger factors that affect large swatches of people. The National Rosacea Society compiled a list of some of these triggers with the goal of helping patients avoid flareups as much as possible. Of course, since flare-ups are individual, it is impossible for them to compile a complete list of everything that could cause flare-ups. If you are battling with rosacea, you are encouraged to take the time to write down your flare-ups. With time, you will learn what your own triggers are, and with the help of our team, you will know what steps to take to avoid them. A lot of the common triggers revolve around a few things. They are food, temperature, weather, medication, beverages, emotional states, physical exertion, skin care products and medical conditions. For example, when
28 | WeAreProsper.com
it comes to food, many rosacea sufferers will experience an outbreak after eating: Yogurt, Chocolate, Soy sauce, Spinach, Avocados, Spicy food, Foods high in histamine Weather conditions that might trigger an outbreak include overexposure to the sun, strong winds that might chafe your skin, extremely cold temperatures and high humidity. In the same vein, many people with this condition experience a breakout if they are in very hot areas, such as a sauna, a hot bath or some other warm environment. For many, drinking alcohol, especially drinking red wine, may trigger an outbreak. The same is true for vodka, bourbon and gin. It is very common for rosacea sufferers to have a breakout if they are drinking something hot, such as coffee, hot tea or hot chocolate. When people are under stress, their immune system does not work as well as it should. This is part of the reason why when a rosacea sufferer feels anxiety, they have breakouts. Unfortunately, this can create a vicious cycle. Although there is no cure for rosacea, there are different treatments that you can use to minimize the severity of it. During a consultation at McGuiness Dermatology, you can learn more about your treatment options. We have locations in Dallas, Flower Mound, Murphy, Plano, Prosper and Richardson. How Family Travel Has Changed Throughout the Last 25 Years While 2020 has brought some definite and dramatic changes to the way people travel, there have actually been numerous changes in the travel industry throughout the course of the last 25 years. Travelers have become increasingly savvy, thanks to technology that allows them to thoroughly research their destinations and plan vacations to an unprecedented level of detail. Consumer reviews have also changed the way people travel, as insights from others heavily influence decisions on everything from attractions to local restaurants. This year, in honor of its 25th anniversary, Vrbo has compiled some of the most notable changes in the travel industry over the past 25 years:
Communication and Photography: A few decades ago, it was common to drop a postcard in the mail for loved ones while on a trip so you could share the scenery and say a quick hello (although the postcards didn’t always arrive before you returned home). Today, between smartphones and social media, it’s possible to share moments from your journey with family and friends back home instantaneously. Phones and digital cameras are now the primary tools for photography, so there’s no more waiting for film to develop and hoping you captured that sunset just right.
Booking and Comparison Shopping: Transportation and Route Guidance: A couple decades ago, airfare was significantly more expensive. Now, due to lower fuel costs and larger planes that allow for efficiency, fares are considerably lower than in the past. Other changes in transportation include the return of family road trips. Although gas prices have created some fluctuation, Americans still tend to appreciate the flexibility of road trips and the ability to set their own pace. Newer technologies such as GPS and other route guidance resources have also made it easier to take a road trip, from not only finding directions from one point to the next, but also attractions, lodging, food and more along the way.
Accommodations: When thinking about lodging, traditional hotels and quaint bed-andbreakfasts automatically come to mind. However, vacation rentals and holiday homes have been around for decades, too. Thanks to online platforms, access to private, whole-home accommodations like condos, cabins and other homes has grown exponentially. For example, Vrbo started as a modest classified ads-style website for online vacation rentals and today offers more than 2 million unique places to stay across the globe. 30 | WeAreProsper.com
In the past, booking travel meant looking at classified ads for rental properties or contacting travel agents or visitor centers to gather information about a destination. Now, you can compare prices for everything from car rentals to flights and accommodations online, read reviews from former guests and book and pay for those reservations with a few taps on your keyboard or smartphone. For example, Vrbo began as a website for vacation home owners to list and advertise their properties for travelers to find and rent, and now offers a multitude of tools such as search filters, Trip Boards, Virtual Tours and reviews to help you compare vacation rentals and find the perfect one for your trip.
Attractions: Travel used to be largely driven by must-see destinations and stand-out attractions at popular places. More recently, travelers seek out unique experiences that align with their personal interests and look to explore places off the beaten path. There’s also an increased focus on learning about new places and embracing how the locals eat and live. Learn more and get started planning your next vacation at vrbo.com.
