Back to School Safety Tips
by Chief McHone and the Prosper Police Dept.
The Town of Prosper Police Department reminds you that our local schools are back in session this month. Our goal is to help keep our kids safe,so here are a few reminders about safety tips for children returning to school. School Zones: Officers will continue to be proactive this coming school year. Overall, driving habits are good. Last school year officers only issued 53 citations for speeding in a school zone and 6 citations for cell phone usage in a school zone. • Be alert for the school zone signs posted near schools. • Stay alert for the children and the crossing guards as they make their way across the street. • Slow down and prepare to stop if the crossing guard so indicates. • As a reminder, it is illegal to use a wireless communication device in a school zone unless the vehicle is stopped or a hands-free device is used.
Riding the Bus
• Have a safe place to wait for your bus, away from traffic and the street. • Stay away from the bus until it comes to a complete stop and the driver signals you to enter. • When being dropped off, exit the bus and take ten giant steps away from the bus. Keep a safe distance between you and the bus. Also, remember that the bus driver can see you best when you are back away from the bus. • Use the handrail to enter and exit the bus. • Stay away from the bus until the driver gives his/her signal that it’s okay to approach. • Be aware of the street traffic around you. Drivers are required to follow certain rules of the road concerning school buses, however, not all do. Protect yourself and watch out! • Drivers must stop for all red flashing lights on bus in both directions unless on a divided highway.

Walking or Biking to School
Even if you don’t ride in a motor vehicle, you still have to protect yourself. Because of minimal supervision, young pedestrians face a wide variety of decisions making situations and dangers while walking to and from school. Here are a few basic safety tips to follow: • Mind all traffic signals and/or the crossing guard -- never cross the street against a light, even if you don’t see any traffic coming. • Always walk on sidewalks (where provided), otherwise walk facing traffic. • Walk your bike through intersections. • Walk with a friend(s). • Wear reflective material...it makes you more visible to street traffic. • Never run out from between cars
Back-to-School Safety Checklist
Stranger Danger. Teach your children that any adult they don’t know well is a stranger, even if they look nice, and to never go anywhere with a stranger. Avoid displaying your child’s name in plain sight. Children tend to trust people who know their names. If your child’s name is easily readable on their backpack or clothing, it makes it easier for strangers to approach them. Create an emergency card. On a small business card, list your child’s emergency contacts, addresses and medical information, and attach it to the inside of his or her backpack. Teach your child to use this card in an emergency. Educate your child about 9-1-1. Ensure your child knows when and how to call 9-1-1 for help, and what their home address is. Turn your address into a song to help them memorize it. Sign up and create a Smart911 Safety Profile. Now you can provide 9-1-1 with the information they need to help any member of your family before an emergency happens.

The best way for our families and community to stay informed of district events and accomplishments is through the Eagle Express weekly e-mail publication from Dr. Watkins. Parent emails are gathered during the student registration process and are loaded into the email subscription service so they automatically receive the Eagle Express and corresponding campus principal newsletters. Community members who would like to receive the Eagle Express can sign up on-line through the front page of the PISD website.

Superintendent of Schools Prosper Independent School District The start of school is upon us and we could not be more excited to welcome our 7,000+ new and existing students. No, that is NOT a typo. Prosper ISD could realize nearly 1,000 new students this year! We have hired approximately 80 new people to better accommodate our growing student population. We often hear the many perspectives from our Prosper families about the “growth” we are experiencing and coming our way. We choose to take the position that our growth gives us an opportunity to serve even more families the “Prosper Way” – nothing productive ever comes from a “glass half empty” outlook. Our glass will always be half full as we take on some new challenges coming our way. We have completed the interior build-out of PHS and it is ready for the first day of school this month. Light Farms Elementary is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in August of 2015. We will continue to evaluate our bonding capacity over this school year, for we will have the student growth to warrant beginning the construction of Elementary #6 as well as addressing grades 5-8. Parent and community involvement/support continues to be the linchpin to our success. For example, your support of the recent bond refunding election in May enabled the District to save significant money in interest cost savings. You might recall, with your support of this election, we were hoping to achieve approximately $5,000,000 in interest cost savings. However, we were able to take advantage of a favorable market and recently refunded this group of bonds with your approval and actually realized $15,450,325 in savings! Admittedly, our growth is going to be a challenge for our community and our school district, but we are uncompromisingly committed to continue the best educational experience for your child… our children. Today is still a great day to be an Eagle – we are looking forward to sharing it together!
Parents wishing to receive campus specific campus grade level, or athletic event newsletters should visit their campus websites log into the SchoolFusion website using their individual Skyward login information and subscribe to the appropriate newsletters. Specific directions for signing up for all campus newsletters will be on the front page of all school websites.
Student Registration
Returning Student Registration Parents of returning PISD students are reminded to register their school children online through InfoSnap. Online registration through InfoSnap will be available July 16th – July 31st. It is important for parents to complete this registration information yearly in order to ensure we have accurate information for your student. An automated email was sent to parents on July 16th containing InfoSnap information for each student for registration. If you did not receive an email during the week of July 14th, please contact our PEIMS Coordinator, Laura McGlaun at lmcglaun@prosper-isd.net. In order for students to be placed on a class list at elementary or to have a schedule made at secondary campuses, parents must complete this annual on-line registration process. To access on-line registration, visit the Prosper ISD website (www. prosper-isd.net) and click on the parents tab then the student registration link > returning student registration.
New Student Registration Prosper ISD Welcomes Students to the 2014-2015 School Year!! Prosper ISD is excited about the 2014-2015 school year and is looking forward to welcoming over 7,000 students on the first day of school, Monday, August 25th.

18 Live & PROSPER Magazine | August 2014
In order to make things easier for our parents that are new to the district, Prosper ISD is implementing a new registration process for our new families beginning with the 2014 – 15 school year. For new student registration information, visit the Prosper ISD website (www.prosper-isd.net) and click on the parents tab then the student registration link > new student registration. We ask that parents/guardians of all NEW to Prosper ISD students use this webpage for important information regarding registering your child. Once you have completed the online registration process, we then ask that you bring the required documentation (Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Immunization Record, Proof of Residency & Drivers License) to our New Student Summer Registration Event on July 29th, 30th or 31st. At that time a campus Registrar and Nurse will review your documents to ensure all requirements for registration have been met. On average, the new stu-
dent registration process may take up to an hour to complete, so please plan accordingly. (Please note: You only need to attend one of the summer registration days.) If parents of students in grades K-6th are interested in afterschool care, AlphaBEST, will be set up during new student registration to answer questions and enroll students. In addition, if parents are in need of school supply packs, EPI, will be set up to allow parents to purchase school supplies for the upcoming school year for grades PreK-8th. If you do not have access to a computer to complete the online registration process, computers will be available for use on the day of registration. However, please allow an additional 15 minutes to complete the online portion for each child. Computers are also available to the public at the Prosper Community Library, which is located on the campus of Reynolds Middle School.

If you have any questions, please contact Prosper ISD’s Transportation office at 469-2192065. As a reminder, students who live within 2 miles of their designated campus are not eligible for transportation. In rare cases, the PISD School Board has defined certain routes as hazardous because of the absence of adequate sidewalks or crosswalks as defined by board policy. For added safety, PISD will post additional crossing guards at busy intersections to assist students walking to and from school. Please note the crossing guard locations are located on PISD Transportations website.
School Supplies
The PISD elementary schools, Rogers MS (5th & 6th) and Reynolds MS (7th & 8th) offered parents the opportunity to purchase school supply packs in the spring. At the elementary schools, pre-ordered supplies will be delivered to each child’s classroom before Meet the Teacher Night. Rogers Middle School students can pick up their pre-ordered supplies during the open locker practices. Reynolds Middle School students will pick up their pre-ordered supplies on the first day of school. High school students simply need paper and a pen the first day of school, and
School Meals
Parents may add money to their child’s meal account by accessing the on-line MySchoolBucks.com icon located on the front page in the center section of the PISD website. Lunches for Elementary students will cost $2.30. At Rogers Middle School and Reynolds Middle School lunches will cost $2.50. The combo meal at PHS will cost $2.50. Breakfast for students at all grade levels will be $1.05. PHS and Reynolds are not participating in the federal meal program, but will continue providing meal benefits to students that apply and are approved to receive assistance. Parents must complete the application for Free & Reduced meals in order to receive these meal benefits. Students will have a variety of menu options at the secondary level, but parents can always place specific restrictions on their child’s account limiting those menu options. During the on-line registration process, parents who wish to apply for meal benefits can instantly print the application from the site. We also offer applications in campus offices, which may be returned to the campus office or brought to the PISD Administration Building located at 605 E. 7th Street. Students who received lunch assistance last year will continue to qualify until October 3, 2014. Prior to October 3, 2014, a new Federal Application for Free & Reduced Meals must be completed, returned, and approved to continue to receive assistance. For more information about free or reduced meal prices, please contact Mrs. Cagle at 469-219-2000 or bjcagle@prosper-isd.net.
Transportation
Prosper ISD continues to bring quality transportation to the Prosper community through district-owned and supervised school bus services. All bus routes are equipped with propane-powered school buses, all with seatbelts, air conditioning, and video surveillance. Beginning August 18, parents can access their child’s bus route information by navigating to their Skyward Family Access account. Then, click on the tab
their individual teachers will provide students with the course requirements. School supply lists can be found online at www.prosper-isd.net click on the parents tab then school supply lists. // The PEOPLE Meet Your Prosper ISD Campus Leaders Greg Wright, Prosper High School
My wife, Lesli is a Dyslexia Therapist in our district. We have twin daughters, Brook and Brittany, who are incoming freshmen at the University of Central Arkansas. I am entering into my 30th year in Education and 20th year as an administrator. I earned my Bachelors from Texas A&I University and my Masters from Stephen F. Austin University. I am looking forward to continuing the Standard of Excellence that we’ve established at Prosper High School. New Programs this year at PHS are: AP Spanish Literature, AP Art History, Principles of Law Enforcement, Law and Public Safety, Forensic Science, Pharmacy Tech, Vet Tech, Pathology, Aerobics, Outdoor Education, Dance Classes, American Sign Language, AP Physics I, AP Physics C, Engineering Math and Calculus BC. Our theme for the 2014 – 2015 school year is: WE ARE PROSPER . . . . . WE OWN THIS!!! At Prosper High School, we own Academic Excellence, School Pride, and School Spirit! We own the Prosper Rumble and this year we will be proud to display the Prosper Rumble 2.0 Version! We will also continue our 3 slogans: Tradition + Pride + Hard Work = SUCCESS! EAGLE PRIDE BEGINS WITH YOU! TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK! The support for education in our community is outstanding! The school is the community and the community is the school! My favorite thing about being the PHS principal has to be working with the very best school board, superintendent, staff, students, and parents of any school district that I have worked in during my 29 year tenure in education. My goal is to continue the great traditions that we have started at Prosper High School and take everything to another level. The students are performing the Prosper Rumble 2.0 and I would like to invite the entire community out to watch the Prosper Rumble 2.0 Pep Rally on Friday, September 26th, at 2:20 p.m. in the Arena.
Gregory Bradley, Reynolds Middle School
My wife Melody and I have 2 daughters, Kiersi (8) and Kayden (7). I have completed 13 years in education and 6 as an administrator. I earned my Bachelor of Science from Howard Payne University and my Masters of Education from Dallas Baptist University. I am definitely looking forward to the excitement of welcoming more students and teachers than ever to Reynolds in 2014-2015. I truly believe our best days are ahead of us. We have added an Outdoor Education program and will continue to expand our Robotics, Theatre, Choir, Band, and Athletic Programs. Our theme will be revealed in August. What makes our PISD so unique? Involvement. The students are involved. The parents are involved. The community is involved. It is unlike any other district. My favorite part is serving others. The role of principal allows me to in a small way help students, teachers, and families. The ultimate reward is witnessing students achieve their goals. My goal is to make Reynolds a school that every student, teacher, parent, and community member can be proud of. I realize that students might not share my enthusiasm, but I am excited about August 25, 2014. We look forward to seeing you!
Todd Shirley, Rogers Middle School
My wife Stacie, daughter McKenna, and son Ryan and I have been Prosper residents for 13 years. This is an exciting time in Prosper ISD and Rogers Middle School, The growth of our district is experiencing is allowing us to touch the lives of more students. We have also been able to hire some very talented teachers to complement our amazing staff. I’m looking forward to being a part of an outstanding year at Rogers.
Rogers Middle School.
Our theme at Rogers this year is “Get Connected”. The basis of this theme is that as a staff, we want to personally connect with our students and then we want to get them connected to RMS. Specifically, we want to get them connected into their classes, the numerous clubs and extra-curriculars, and the technology we have available to us. Rogers will be in Phase 2 of our 1:1 Chromebook initiative this year. We piloted Chromebooks in two classrooms last year with positive results and we will expand the program to twelve classrooms this year. We are also increasing the number of clubs we offer our students to provide them more opportunities to get connected into
When I reflect on what makes Prosper ISD unique/special, a few things stand out. We have great kids who love school and are proud to be Prosper Eagles. We have a community that supports our schools and we have a staff from the top down who are committed to student success. I have only been serving in this new role for a couple of months, but so far my favorite part of being a principal has been hiring high quality teachers. As an administrator, I really enjoy seeing growth in our students academically, socially, and emotionally. My biggest goal this year is that we continue to build upon the foundation and traditions at Rogers Middle School. I cannot wait until August 25th!!

Garry Gorman, Baker Elementary School
My wife Nikki and I have been married 19 years. She is a pharmacist and manager at Sam’s Club Pharmacy in McKinney. My son Kaleb (16) will be in 11th Grade, and my daughter Karsyn (13) will be in 7th Grade. I will be starting my 3rd year in Prosper ISD and will be starting my 17th year in education. I have a BS in Education and a Master’s in Education Administration. I am most looking forward to seeing all my students and parents again. At Baker we believe in making strong relationships and this is going to be another great year! Our theme at Baker Elementary for the 2014-15 school year will be “At Baker Elementary we are Happy, Happy, Happy!” The small community feeling as we continue to grow larger is the most unique thing about PISD. What I enjoy most about being the principal at Baker is the support from parents, central administration, the school board, and the community as we continue to strive to do our best each and every day. My goal is to make sure that every person that walks through the Baker doors feels welcomed, loved, and appreciated for who they are!
Laine Jones, Folsom Elementary School
I have served 28 years in education, and have my Masters Degrees in Administration and Secondary Education. I’m looking forward to more students to join our Folsom Family in 2014-2015. The growth in Prosper gives us more opportunities to create engaged learners. We are happy to welcome all PreK 4-year-olds to Folsom! We will encourage everyone who walks through the doors to be BRAVE! Brave in your thinking, brave in your work, brave in your character! The families that live in Prosper make it unique. They have chosen this town to raise a family. The community offers greatness and expects greatness from the school district in return. My favorite part about being a principal is loving the children, their families and my staff. I am blessed beyond measure to have found my forever spot and purpose in this wide, wide world! I hope every student and teacher engages in learning that inspires them to want more! We are Folsom FIERCE!
Machelle Scogin, Rucker Elementary School
I have been married for 25 years to my husband Jim, have 3 beautiful children, Morgan (21), Madison (18), and Mason (8). I have been in education for 16 years. I have my degree in Early Childhood Education, certified Pre K-6th, and Master of Education in Administration. I recently attended The Principal’s Center at Harvard Graduate School of Education where I was able to learn from professors and collaborate with 132 principals from all over the world. Each year brings great promise to improve upon the year before. I am looking forward to seeing all my returning students as well as welcoming and getting to know the new students coming to Rucker Elementary. The theme for the 2014-2015 school year is Rucker All-Stars. Our staff chose this because we believe that each student has a gift within them that makes them special and unique. Our goal is to ensure that each student knows that they are indeed an All-Star! Prosper ISD is unique because despite the growth that has occurred over the past 15 years I have lived here, the staff, administration, and school board haven’t wavered from what they believe is important-children first. The personalization and individualization from receiving a signed birthday card from the superintendent every year to rain or shine having a staff open your car door each morning and afternoon. Prosper ISD encourages a sense of pride in traditions while still encouraging positive, meaningful change based upon research and what is best for OUR students. The sense of family continues to embody the district and community at large. I would say that my favorite part about being a principal is the privilege to serve, observe, and positively impact all the students, parents, and staff at one campus. My biggest goal this year will be to ensure that each and everyone who comes through Rucker Elementary feels they are welcome, safe, and loved.
Jana Thomson, Cockrell Elementary School
I was born in Ft. Worth, but grew up & lived in Austin, TX for 27 years…I am a true “Austinite”! I earned my B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Texas, Austin and my M.S. in Educational Administration, Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth. I am married to Lee Thomson, owner of Thomson Investment Group, Inc. I have lived in Prosper for 11 years & reside in the Cockrell attendance zone. I always look forward to a new school year. Students arrive to school eager & excited with their “eyes wide open” with big smiles and an abundance of hugs. I love seeing all the familiar faces and meeting all the new ones as we begin making new memories and cherishing the traditions already made, together. As we begin year 3 at Cockrell Elementary, many of the programs that have been started will continue & some new surprises are in store for our Cockrell Eagle Champion family! Prosper ISD and our Prosper community continue to be as unique as each family & child is individually unique. Because our community is experiencing growth together, we continue to stand united as we embrace the new and hold onto our community values, culture and traditions. It has been and continues to be a great privilege for me to serve students, their families, our staff members, district and community, as a Prosper ISD principal. My career continues to be full of fun, learning and growth opportunities as I strive to make a difference in the lives of students each and every day. I can’t imagine doing anything else that gives me so much joy! Back To School | WeAreProsper.com

// Remember When
Rock Hill School 1914
Rock Hill Settlement From 1850 to 1902 there were two settlements that were instrumental in the formation in the Town of Prosper. One settlement was called Rock Hill and was located two miles south of the current town of Prosper. The other settlement was called Richland and will be discussed in next month’s issue. The settlement of Rock Hill was on Preston Road where Rock Hill Road (Virginia Parkway) intersects with Preston. Rock Hill Road has also been known as County Road 25. In 1854, a post office was established in Rock Hill and mail was delivered twice a week from McKinney. Pioneers began to settle there after 1850 and by the 1890’s Rock Hill was quite a large settlement. It had four churches (Methodist Episcopal, Methodist Episcopal-South, Baptist and Presbyterian), a grist mill, dry goods store, drug store, blacksmith shop, I.O.O.F. lodge, general merchandise store, grocery store, cotton gin, a white school and a black school. It had three doctors; Dr. Douglas, Dr. Combest and Dr. Mathers. When most of Rock Hill moved to Prosper in 1902-1903 because of the railroad, Dr. Douglas moved to Frisco, Dr. Combest moved to California and Dr. Mathers moved to Prosper. Dr. William Mathers married a daughter of one of the most prominent families in Rock Hill, Tennessee Catherine Shrader. The Shrader family was one of the pioneer families who settled in Rock Hill and owned the drug store. The drug store moved to Prosper in 1902 and was located basically where the Cotton Gin Café is now. (Note: the Shrader home was moved to Prosper in 1902 and is still located on First Street just west of the Presbyterian church.) Dr. Mathers’ office was located in the rear of the Shrader drug store. He came to Rock Hill in 1883 and moved to Prosper in 1903. He was a prominent doctor and kept his medical practice in Prosper until 1917 when he moved to McKinney. During his time in Prosper he was on the board and vice president of the Continental Bank, an excellent speaker, a member of the Lee Masonic lodge and very active in community affairs. One of the earliest families to settle in the Rock Hill area during this time were the Naugles. They settled in Rock Hill in 1846. Jacob Johnston Naugle (my great-great grandfather) was born in 1803 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and moved to Rock Hill, Texas in 1846. Jacob Naugle married Francis McNeil and they had two children, Ann Matilda and Benjamin Johnston Naugle (my great
26 Live & PROSPER Magazine | August 2014
grandfather). Benjamin Johnston Naugle married Arvanzena Adamson in Weston, Texas on October 30, 1853. They had five children, one of whom was Zora Ann Naugle, which was my grandmother. One of her brothers, Benjamin Naugle, Jr., became the postmaster of Prosper in 1896 before the town was founded. He served as postmaster in Prosper for 46 years. Another one of my uncles, l. L. Naugle became a Methodist preacher and served as minister of the Rock Hill Methodist Episcopal Church-South and the Bethel Episcopal Church-South. When the Methodist church moved from Rock Hill to Prosper in 1902, l. L. Naugle became the first pastor of the Prosper Methodist Church. Some of the other families who settled in the Rock Hill area in the late 1800’s were the Fields, Smiths, Maxeys, Adamsons, Rensions, Shraders, Jamisons, Bells, Mohons, Wells, Parvins, Mathers, Talkingtons, Stantons, Lesters, Barlows, Sones, Hackers, Rogers, Moores, Whites, Thompsons, Burkes, Collins, Rutherfords, Robersons, Dubberlys, Mitchells, Mahards, Beanlands, Cantrells, Goodnights, Sterlings, Lusters, Sneathens, Rawlins, Rainwaters, Bergners, Slaughters and Tarpleys. Rock Hill gradually faded away since most businesses and people moved to Prosper in 1902-1903. The only landmark left was the Rock Hill store, owned and operated by “Uncle Jim” and “Aunt Winnie” Mohon. After “Aunt Winnie” died in 1970, the Rock Hill store was torn down on December 8, 1973. A historical marker, located about 200 yards south of the intersection of Rock Hill Road and Preston and on the east side of Preston, has been placed to commemorate the establishment of this community. Thanks to Joy Gough of Richardson, Texas for applying to the Texas historical commission for the Rock Hill historical marker so that we can remember the history of this important community from the past.

Welcomes Dr. Thomas Chandler Prosper Dentistry and Orthodontics is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Thomas Chandler to their practice! Born and raised in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, Dr. Chandler completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1996. He earned a scholarship from the Army to attend the Case School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland Ohio, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2001. He served as Dentist for the 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, GA where he completed his active duty commitment. Following his service, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency program at Baylor College of Dentistry in 2004. He went on to receive his Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2005. Dr. Chandler married his wife Jennifer in 2006, and they have two beautiful boys Vince and Max. They are looking forward to becoming active members in the Prosper community. Why Prosper? I have always dreamed of owning my own Dental Practice, but have just never found the right fit. I learned of Prosper when the Practice opportunity presented itself to me, and immediately fell in love with the town. I love the small community feel of Prosper, mixed with the extreme growth potential for the future. You have the best of both worlds living here- proximity to busy urban setting when necessary, combined with the calm relaxing environment of the country. Education for my boys was very important to my wife and I, and Prosper has an excellent public school system. We were able to find our dream home, in a wonderful subdivision 2 miles from my practice. The idea that I will be able to spend my lunch hour everyday with my family was the icing on the cake! The new layout for the practice will greatly enhance the Dental services we are able to provide for our patients, as well as the overall experience. They will continue to receive the excellent general dental care they do now, but with more recent training and a fresh prospective. By allowing Dr. Gilson to focus on his true passion of Orthodontics exclusively, we will greatly increase the patient’s orthodontic services we can provide. Dr. Gilson and I both agree that a happy, well informed patient is the key to a successful Dental Practice. I believe what sets me apart from others is my philosophy on Dental Care. I live my life by the Golden Rule of the Bible- Do to others as you would like them to do to you (Luke 6:31). When treating my patients, I pretend I’m the one in the chair. How I interact and treat them is the same way I would want someone to treat me. Rarely does this philosophy not allow me to have a successful outcome, and hence a happy patient.

// In HIS Presence
Does God Still Heal Today? by Pastor Adam Stewart at Tabernacle Church
I grew up with my Mom playing organ at a small traditional church. My Mom made sure that we never missed church on any Sunday, even if I had a fever we always went; rain or shine. Despite our perfect attendance at church though, I never once saw any kind of miracle or healing. If I had been following the same Jesus around Palestine with the equal consistency 2,000 years ago, I would have seen miracles virtually every day. I remember being a boy looking up into the great stained glass windows of scenes in Jesus life. Though they were in color I felt like I was looking at old black and white photographs from an era that would never occur again. Where was the Living God? Later when I grew up I saw televangelists and heard about the scandals and was hardened even more to thinking that every modern day healing was false or staged. I even went so far as to ridicule my Mom when she told me that she had prayed and been healed physically in one way or another. I thought she was totally unscientific and deceived. I got my BA in Theology/Christian Education at Concordia University, almost completed my Masters in Theology at a Church of Christ seminary in Austin and then my theological education made me even surer that my Mom was wrong. To me, any modern healing was a scheme cooked up by a preacher to make money. All that changed in 2008 when I was rear ended by someone driving a red pickup truck. My smaller Toyota Camry crumpled like tin foil and the headlights popped out like a cartoon characters eyes after being punched in the face. The back pain would not go away. After months went by and the chiropractic bills piled up, I was wondering if I would be one of those 20 something’s with a real chronic health problem. My back and neck were not getting better. One Sunday, I was in the back of the church and a guy came up to me and prayed a 30 second prayer for my back in Jesus name and I don’t know how to explain what happened except a warmth came to my back and all the pain left permanently. Six years later it is still well. After that experience I slowly began to pray for the sick and gradually began to see God do extraordinary miracles. I have since seen broken bones healed instantly, misaligned hips returned to normal, vitiligo on a girls leg return to normal skin as we prayed, duckfeet straightened out instantly, eyesight improve, hearing improve, a lady who hadn’t been able to sleep on her back for 20 years healed and able to rest normally. My faith has become sight. If you are reading this and have had a similar experience, let me ask you a few questions. Is God less powerful today than He was in the Old & New Testament days? Is His love the same for you today or less? If neither God’s love nor power has decreased why wouldn’t a good Father heal his children? If you worship with us here at Tabernacle Church in Prosper it will be virtually impossible for you not to witness or experience some kind of Biblical miracle. I can pretty much guarantee that. Why? “Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” – Heb 13:8. Come visit us and see for yourself.

How To Look In The Texas Heat
ometimes, it’s hard to look pulled together in the heat, and we opt out all together. Don’t feel stuck in nondescript shorts and t-shirts or stick to yoga clothes all summer! When you want to look amazing and stay cool, use these tricks to kick back, relax, and make your wardrobe do all the heavy lifting. Three pieces always look more put together than two. For example, a top, bottom, and completer piece (jacket or cardigan, piece of jewelry, or another accessory) will look more cohesive than just a top and bottom. In the heat, choose lightweight cardigans or use fun accessories like a hat, belt, or scarf for the third item. A piece of statement jewelry is another great option. Here are a few looks you can recreate with items you may already have hanging in your closet. Here, the lightweight fabric of the scarf makes the outfit look pulled together but keeps it breezy. Add a belt to define your waist so the scarf doesn’t add too much bulk at the top of your frame. Try wearing a hat. There are tons of chic options: a fedora like this one, a panama hat (similar, but with a flat brim), a floppy beach hat; even a baseball hat can look great paired with a dress and non-athletic sneakers. Break out that old pair of Keds and grab your jean jacket to go with it. Bonus: you now have created your very own shade! Statement necklaces help pull an outfit together faster than anything else. They also keep the attention up at your face and detract from arms, the midsection, or any other area you may not be crazy about. They look great dressed down with a simple tee and casual jeans or up with a blouse and skirt for date night. Not a fan of necklaces? Choose a pair of chandelier earrings, a cuff bracelet, or a cocktail ring instead. Bold jewelry isn’t just for cocktail hour anymore. Just stick to one piece to avoid looking over-styled. If you don’t have the exact pieces pictured, try to think outside the box and shop your closet to create a similar look. Don’t have a maxi skirt? Choose another favorite skirt. No elastic belt? Use a regular one, thread the end through the loop, pull it tight, and tuck the tail between the belt and your body to keep it in place.
