Chat With Benedetta and Valeria Bianchini
of Local Aromas
There's no such thing as Italian food, declare sisters and
business partners, Benedetta and Valeria Bianchini of Local Aromas. With over 30 years of experience combined in the food and wine and hospitality industries, they are committed to bring you the local aromas of not only their native Rome, but also unravel the stories behind other regional Italian dishes. Valeria and Benedetta's life abroad in Thailand and South America enriched their worldly palate, but read why Roman cuisine remained at the center of all they do today. As Italian expats who lived most of their early years abroad, we asked them what they missed most about Rome. Find out more here.

Chat With Two Expats Life in lockdown saw locals across Rome,
Turin and Naples ascend their balconies with instruments, singing and dancing to maintain t h e community spirit, while keeping themselves (and the world's count less onlookers) entertained. This moving demonstration of comradery in the face of global crisis was not subject only to Italy's major cities, but took place across the entire country. Juliana De Brito, proud inhabitant of Le Marche, explains that the Italian country side was by no means an exception. She fondly recounts two neighbours dining together on a "table" created between their two balconies, a s t o r y very much reflective of her favourite Italian saying. "A tavola non si invecchia" ("At the table, you don't get old"), which implies that dining in company is the best tonic for a long, healthy and prosperous fife, as traditionally, Italians never eat alone. Read Juliana's story written by Bella Thorpe-Woods here.
When we spoke with Mimi M. aka Abroad in Milan, she felt the urge to be frank. Moving to Italy hasn't been easy. Falling in love and finding her partner, Luca has changed her life dramatically and mostly for the better. However, Mimi expressed the challenges of adapting, being accepted socially and the increased stress of living in Milan during the pandemic - one of the most impacted Italian cities that is now in its second lockdown. Read Mimi's journey that began in New York and Miami to Milan, and how her love for art and history led her to visit Verona, the city of tragic love.
