GUARDIANS OF Liverpool Cathedral For today, for tomorrow, for the next 100 years

24 MILLION

LIVERPOOL CATHEDRALBUILT FOR THE PEOPLE Dear Friend: Liverpool Cathedral was built by the people and paid for by the people. It now stands as one of the world’s truly great buildings. I have no doubt that it has a special place in your affections. The UK’s largest cathedral faces a major fabric challenge. The massive roof, majestic tower and extraordinarily beautiful windows are in urgent need of work. We must act now to be able to pass this building to future generations in first class condition. We also aspire to enhance the capacity of the cathedral to serve the city and region. We are seeking to raise £24 million by 2024, in order to ensure the fabric is sound and the facilities are fit for purpose - with five new outreach projects to equip the cathedral for mission far into the 21st century. Liverpool Cathedral was paid for by the many, but also by the few. All sections of the community gave money; all gave generously. But some gifts were transformational; some gifts opened up new and different possibilities. We hope that in this spirit, modern philanthropists will feel a similar call to give those gifts which transform thinking and lead others into a new understanding of what can be done. It is the spirit, for example, of John Rankin, Mrs J Barrow, Thomas Bartlett and T Fenwick Harrison each of whom gave the equivalent over £1 million, to the original building appeal.
