A LETTER FROM YOUR MAYOR
Dear Fellow Residents,
Democracy is a beautiful process and one that we must never take for granted. Many Australians fought and died for the right to choose who leads us. On September 14 we had our election, despite attempts by the NSW Government to cancel it. Had it been cancelled, ratepayers would have lost more than $1 million in fees already incurred. Thankfully we saved this money and, most importantly, the community has had its say.
With more than 10 candidates contesting the Mayoralty (the most of any Council in NSW) it is very humbling to have been brought back to work for you on the plan that we have started. Thank you for this opportunity - we wont let you down!
Every new Council must review its 10-year Community Strategic Plan. We are doing this now, and because YOU know your area best, we will be
reaching out to you. Tell us what needs to be done, and give us your vision for the future of Liverpool. Please don’t be shy. Tell us what you think. The more voices that speak up the better.
As we head into the Christmas season, I ask everyone to please stay safe. Whether you are on our roads, going to the beach, or staying at home away from the heat, please be mindful of other people and check in on them. In this newsletter theres some info about you can do to stay safe.
There’s also info about our Christmas Tree lighting and our New Year’s Eve event. Please come and join us and let’s celebrate together as a community.
Thank you once again, and on behalf of everyone at Liverpool Council, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and hope that you have a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year!
Mayor Ned Mannoun
Liverpool is Booming
The Healthy City
The centrepiece of the first phase of the $830 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct redevelopment has opened, following the opening of the new Integrated Services Building.
It’s a major boost for the area’s health care services and follows a strong advocacy program by Liverpool City Council. The new five-storey building includes an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 10 new birthing suites and a new centralised Pathology Department.
Phase 2 - expected to begin in 2025, includes new inpatient units, an integrated cancer centre and expanded women’s and children’s ambulatory care.
Moorebank Gets it Moving
Moorebank Intermodal is Australia’s largest intermodal logistics precinct. It’s a pivotal project that will improve freight logistics in New South Wales; making Liverpool a key player in Australia’s transport and logistics sector.
The project emphasises sustainability, featuring reduced truck movements and lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional freight transport methods.
It has Australia’s largest rooftop solar installation with the capacity to generate more than 100 megawatts – enough to power 40,000 homes.
The transfer of cargo from road to rail will take more than 3,000 trucks off the roads each day and will manage some 500,000 containers a year.
The Growing City
One of Australia’s largest privately-initiated urban renewal projects is being planned for Moore Point and has begun its approval process.
The Precinct is expected to include some 11,000 dwellings, increase Liverpool’s commercial and retail space by 50 per cent and add the equivalent of two Westfield Shopping Malls to the city’s retail sector.
There will also be a primary school for up to 1,000 students and 10 hectares of public space, including a rejuvenated Georges River foreshore and a central park.
The Liverpool Hospital Precinct brings a muchneeded expansion of hospital services, provides more job opportunities for locals, and greater health outcomes for the Liverpool community.
It could potentially generate more than 6,000 jobs and will be a stimulus for economic growth in the region, making it a key asset for local and state economies.
The project has been developed in stages, with the first stage opening in April.
The Precinct will be linked to Liverpool CBD by foot bridges across the Georges River and a ‘Heritage Quarter’ with the adaptive re-use of significant industrial buildings is planned. Visit listens.liverpool.nsw.gov.au for more info.

Keeping Safe this Summer
As the Australian holiday season approaches, it’s a time filled with joy, celebration, and gatherings with loved ones. However, it’s also a time when holidaymakers find themselves in hospital and unfortunately sometimes a time of family joy ends up as a time of family tragedy.
Road Safety
Speed is a killer. Drivers should be extra careful and double demerits run from Friday 20 December to Monday 1 January inclusive. Plan your trips ahead. Check your vehicle’s condition and get a service before you leave. Take regular rest breaks on long trips and please don’t drink and drive.
Liverpool Council wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Enjoy a memorable and accident-free festive season. Here are some key considerations to keep in mind.
Home Safety
Leave your home protected. Secure it before you go and don’t say you’re away on social media. Get a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property. Decorate safely. Use LED lights to reduce fire risks. Avoid overloading electrical outlets. Check your smoke detectors before you go.
Water Safety
Stay safe in the water. Always swim in designated areas and never alone. Supervise children closely and use life jackets when needed. Be aware of local conditions, including tides and currents. Avoid alcohol before swimming and always check before you dive. Above all, respect lifeguards’ instructions.
Mental Wellbeing
Holidays are usually joyful, but they can bring stresses. Take care of your mental health by setting realistic expectations for yourself and seek support if needed. It’s okay to say no to invitations if you’re overwhelmed. Take time for self-care, whether that means enjoying quiet moments, practicing mindfulness, or engaging in activities you love.
Managing the Mozzies
Mosquitos are a well-known Australian summer hazard and can swarm in areas where there is a lot of still water, such as near rivers and dams.
Liverpool City Council has developed a mosquito control program that aims to reduce mosquito populations and give residents the information they need to protect themselves.
The latest details about Council’s mosquito management are updated on Council’s website.
Here are some quick ways to combat mozzies:
• Make sure there’s nothing around your property that’s a breeding ground;
• Empty all buckets, bowls, pot plant, reservoirs and the like;
• Clean up neglected swimming pools;
• Make sure the water in all bird baths, ornamental ponds and the like is clean and fresh;
• Screen off all water tanks; and
• Wear loose light-coloured clothing with long sleeves and pants to reduce the amount of exposed skin.
A good insect repellent is your first line of defence against mosquitoes. Look for a repellent that contains DEET or Picaridin – these are the most effective and are available at supermarkets and pharmacies.

A POWERHOUSE OF FUN
THE MARKETS HAVE MOVED
The weekly Artisans’ and Growers’ Markets has moved to the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre Precinct. This is a real win-win for the markets and Powerhouse, and also gives an opportunity for market-goers to visit current exhibitions and more.
The markets have been operating for nearly 25 years, starting at Warwick Farm Racecourse and then moving to Chipping Norton.
The next stage of its life is in the Arts Centre precinct, where there is plenty of parking, great facilities and easy access to public transport.
The market is ingrained in our local history, and this will both ensure its continuation and reap mutual benefits by providing support to grow the markets into a strong offering for our local community.
Stall holders Nora Sadler and James Vo welcome the move and say they are looking forward to the opportunities the new venue will bring.
“We are really excited to have found such a wonderful space for the markets, which have been part of Liverpool’s daily life for nearly a quarter of a century,” they said.
“The move to Casula Powerhouse is a great outcome for the markets and we have a positive vision for what the future will bring.”
THE POWERHOUSE EXPERIENCE
Casula Powerhouse is a thriving hub of creativity, gastronomy and artistic experiences. Choose from a wide range of workshops and shortcourses that give opportunities to explore new skills and discover your personal artistic expression.
