Prestigious ESTA award for Marshall Property THE ESTA awards hosted at Grosvenor House in London this April is a prestigious ceremony for Estate Agents across Britain. Marshall won their award in the category for Best Letting Agent in the North West as voted for by clients, up against nine other agents. “I have been using the South Liverpool Link for advertising for the past year and a half. I have found it to be the most effective and cost effective print marketing in the area. Particularly useful as it is delivered through my target market’s letterboxes as well as being available at local businesses. I track success by the number of mentions I get and new customers advertising brings in and The Link is the only print marketing I now do. Prices are good and the service from Moira and the team at the Link is excellent. Would recommend”. STRANGE TALES – By Anton Valdemart
Can you change Nisha’s luck? Dog Name: Nisha Breed: American Bulldog Dog Age: 4 *5($7 walks, cuddles and exuberantly rolling on her back are just some of the WKLQJV $PHULFDQ %XOOGRJ Nisha loves to do! She is a resilient girl as she has had a pretty tough time of it, but still has a passion for life. She was originally found as a stray and has now found herself back at Dogs Trust due to her owner sadly being poorly. Could you help her luck change? She is unique looking and the team adore her – she has a larger than life personality
and a real zest for life. Her eyes are slightly under-sized but it causes her no problems whatsoever. She is happy to be left alone for a few hours and she could live with another dog as long as they shared her enthusiasm for life in general! She would suit an adult only home. Staying in the home you love THE decision to buy a stairlift is often taken at a time of stress, often after a person has suffered a fall or received the news of a debilitating illness. In reality though, stairlifts should be embraced as a modern accessory to prevent falls and preserve the dignity of our loved ones, allowing them to stay and make use of their entire home and not be confined to living downstairs. Here’s a few pointers for you to consider when buying a stair lift: Shop around Most mobility retailers (and charities) will simply pass on your stairlift enquiry to another company and in return they will receive hundreds of pounds in commission. This commission is naturally built into the final price that you pay. Aftersales service and
costs You need to ensure that you have total piece of mind with a good warranty from trained engineers. Check that there are no high servicing costs linked back to the warranty and who do you phone if something goes wrong ? …. are they local ? Beware high pressure sales Many firms employ high pressure sales teams who are paid commission. Don’t invite them into your home unless you have somebody with you who can take notes and help you to encourage them to leave when you have heard enough! Better still, don’t invite a sales person to your home until you have had chance to examine their brochures. Also, keep your home telephone number private so they can’t pester you.
Try before you buy You wouldn’t buy any other household item of equipment without testing it first. This is particularly important when it comes to the seat on the stairlift since, just like people, seats come in many shapes and sizes and you need to feel safe on your stairlift. Future Proof By this, I mean plan ahead and think about what level of mobility you will have in another 5/10 years. For example, if you suffer from arthritis of the hand/ wrist, you may struggle to turn the stairlift at the top of the stairs, so you may need to consider a motorised chair instead. Buy the stairlift now which is going to help you for the next ten years and not just the cheapest. Reece Pearson, Ableworld Stairlift Engineer
For more information about choosing a stairlift visit www.ableworld.co.uk or contact/call into your local Ableworld stores in Wavertree – 140 Rathbone Road, L15 4HH. Telephone 0151 733 1118.

ARIES Mar 21st - Apr 20th
Stubborn fears could hold you back early June. Face your phobias, take some risks and acquire new skills. Be gentle with yourself, especially when the New Moon (5th) forces you into unfamiliar territory. It may be difficult to absorb complicated information - resist the urge to throw in the towel. Financial arguments could erupt in the first half of June. Remember you and a romantic partner are on the same team. Break free of a restrictive cultural, religious or political belief system mid-June. The Full Moon (20th) will prompt you to adopt a more liberating philosophy of life. It will be easier to get financial assistance later in the month.
TAURUS Apr 21st - May 21st
Money will be tight early June so be conservative. Lending money to a loved one could be disastrous. The New Moon (5th) will see you spend money very quickly and this could take its toll on your love life. The two of you need to come together and create a budget. Cutting back on luxuries is painful, but necessary, especially mid-June. The Full Moon (20th) could allow you to pay off a sizeable debt leading to an overwhelming sense of liberation. An overseas trip will be great fun later in the month, improving your outlook and restoring your confidence. Take control of your destiny.
GEMINI May 22nd - Jun 21st
It’s difficult to progress at work early June. Best to lay low and wait for stronger leadership. If you're facing an intolerable situation, it may be necessary to quit. The New Moon (5th) will make you very headstrong so don’t burn any bridges. Don't undermine your professional reputation for the sake of telling someone off. Asserting your needs will become easier when a passive/aggressive authority figure is removed from the mix. Although it will take time to establish a rapport with your new leader, you won't feel nearly as defeated. Striking a balance between your personal and professional lives will be challenging later in the month. You can find an innovative solution to this on the 20th, when the Full Moon allows you to let down your defences with a loved one.
CANCER Jun 22nd - Jul 23rd
Problems at work weigh on your mind and may cause sleepless nights early June. You are possibly out of your depth and training may be critical to your success. The New Moon (5th) may make you might feel somewhat isolated but embrace your solitude! You can be very productive left to your own devices. Developing a unique product or service will increase your stature at work - ignore a jealous colleague who mocks your efforts. The Full Moon (20th) may result in a job offer. Seize this opportunity. Your best friend or romantic partner will offer their full support so let their encouragement push you forward.
LEO Jul 24th - Aug 23rd
Arguments erupt in your social circle early June. You're about to learn who is loyal and who is not. Don't be afraid to break off a relationship with someone who is in the grips of addiction or involved in criminal activity. The New Moon (5th) will show you the price of such friendships and don't let someone blame you for their bad behaviour. A change of scenery will be a good remedy for this problem. Take an interesting trip with someone special. The Full Moon (20th) will see you reap the rewards of a gamble and a moneymaking opportunity is on the horizon at the end of June. Be ready to accept this at a moment's notice. You'll be eager for a change during the final days of the month.
VIRGO Aug 24th - Sep 23rd
Work will be stressful early June. Your boss will want you to put in as much time as possible, undermining your personal life. Discuss this with your best friend or partner and be honest about your lack of availability. Temporarily, you can ride out this storm or, more permanently, you may want to seek a less demanding job. A well-connected friend could lead you to a good position giving more personal freedom. Launching a home-based business is also possible, particularly near the 20th. That's when you can use the strength of the Full Moon to strike a better home/work balance. Spending quality time with your amour will enrich you both as June turns to July. Think about taking an extended break together.
LIBRA Sep 24th - Oct 23rd
You’ll find it difficult to channel your expertise early June and you may be expected to perform jobs beneath your skill set. Be humble, do what’s needed and you'll make a good impression. The New Moon (6th) may require you to work on your day off. Resist the urge to complain. Meeting a debt could be difficult; don’t skip a payment, contact your creditor. The Full Moon (20th) sees an end to a neighbourhood construction project. A home improvement project will be successful towards the end of June. Improve the plumbing, upgrade the electrics or repair structural damage. Moving to a more peaceful neighbourhood is also a possibility.
SCORPIO Oct 24th - Nov 22nd
Money will be tight early June. Be resourceful as with your income and make it stretch. A demanding relative or partner will try to make you feel guilty about your circumstances. Don't take the bait! You may be tempted to make an expensive purchase on the 5th. Instead of shopping, spend quality time with a supportive friend or relative. The Full Moon (20th) can improve your finances but only if you accept an unorthodox job offer. Working unusual hours gives you a chance to pay bills and save money. You'll make a great impression at job interviews and could have a choice of employment offers.
SAGITTARIUS Nov 23rd - Dec 21st
A close relationship will experience stress early June. Try as you might, it will be difficult to resolve. The New Moon underscores these conflicts and the two of you may decide to part ways around the 5th. If you do stay together, be more respectful and encouraging to one another. Be honest about the situation; prolonging it will only cause more pain. Home will be a comforting place to recover and heal. Let your family pamper. The Full Moon (20th) makes it imperative to put your needs first, and you realise the full extent of your sacrifices. Enjoy your favourite hobbies, food and pursuits. An exciting job offer will be a welcome diversion and this will improve your financial situation.
CAPRICORN Dec 22nd - Jan 20th
Your health will be delicate early June. Don't tax your system with sugar, fat and alcohol. A more healthy diet will keep your strength up. And take exercise each day, but don’t throw yourself into vigorous workouts (take brisk walks). More sleep is also advisable. The New Moon (5th) could draw attention to a nagging ache or pain. Get medical advice as soon as possible, so a small problem doesn't escalate. The Full Moon (20th) is good for dealing with bureaucracy and a good time to submit paperwork, licence applications etc. You may be offered a teaching opportunity at the end of June. Getting paid to share your expertise will be profoundly fulfilling.
AQUARIUS Jan 21st - Feb 19th
Don’t take emotional or financial risks early June. Much as you crave adventure, it's better to maintain the status quo. If you're harbouring a crush on someone, stay silent. Hidden facts about the object of your affection could soon come to light. Already in a relationship? You could undergo a rough patch. The New Moon (5th) could prompt you to go your separate ways, due to basic incompatibility. Don’t run into another relationship, build friendships with neighbours and colleagues. Old alliances end; you no longer want to mix with people whose views you find offensive and you'll have an opportunity to end some toxic alliances on the 20th. Money from a grant, loan or scholarship could become available later in the month.
PISCES Feb 20th - Mar 20th
Self-absorbed relatives will make home life stressful early June. Instead of looking to relatives for support, satisfy your own needs. You might decide to move into your own place. The New Moon (6th) could tempt you to make hasty decisions so resist the urge to sign leases, etc.. Hold out for a place within your budget and well-located. Work pressure could arise in June, demanding you work extra hours. This could result in a pay-rise or promotion near the 20th. Alternatively, you may become so frustrated that you find a different job during the second half of June. Either way, you will emerge more successful than you did at the start of the month. Steering a friendship into romantic waters is possible as June turns to July.
The importance of grooming ...
SPRING is the season for malting! Brushing your dog ventilates their coat, helping it grow healthy and strong and takes away old and damaged hair. Grooming also ensures that your dog’s skin can breathe and keeps down the level of grease in their coat. Too much grease can block pores and cause irritation and all sorts of skin problems. Running a brush through their coat acts as a nice massage which promotes healthy blood circulation. Grooming is a great bonding time, the more regularly you do it, the more they’ll get used to it and it should become a soothing relaxing experience for you both. My dog doesn’t like being groomed, what should I do? Always make grooming and handling a pleasant experience, praise your dog and reward with treats if necessary. Choose a time when you are both relaxed, perhaps after a walk when your dog is resting after their exercise. It is always best to groom your dog from an early age, as this is the time when they make associations and choose what they enjoy and what they don’t. Visiting a professional groomer A professional groomer has all of the tools and expertise you are unlikely to have at home. While short haired breeds are less likely to require a full-on professional groom as regularly as longer haired breeds, it’s still a good opportunity to get them fully checked over, they’ll have the right tools to enhance your dog’s coat and can offer a world of advice as to how you can groom your dog at home. The Vet Liverpool features a fully equipped grooming salon, known as The Spa. We offer a wide range of grooming treatments which our professionally trained groomer, Hannah, will tailor to your dog’s requirements. For more information about dog grooming or our prices, please contact the clinic directly by calling us on 0151 556 4526 or get in touch via emailing liverpool@thevet.co.uk

Group has places available THE Grandparents/Toddler Group was started in 2012 by an ex-teacher, Pauline. Looking after young children can be very isolating, especially in the winter months, and at that time there weren’t any groups available in the West Derby area for grandparents who were looking after their grandchildren. From starting the group with 3 grandparents, numbers steadily increased and up to 16 grandparents and their grandchildren
attended the weekly group, offering guidance and support to all who have attended. Due to the grandchildren moving on into nursery and school the group numbers started to decline a little, although attendance is increasing again. However, there are still places available. The group is run by and for grandparents who look after their grandchildren, meeting every Tuesday from 9.30 am to 11am at the West
Derby Children’s Centre, which is on the Blackmoor Infants School site. There is spacious indoor and outdoor provision, the children enjoy a healthy VQDFN DQG ÀQLVK WKH VHVVLRQ with nursery rhymes and songs. Come and meet other grandparents and watch your grandchildren play and socialise with other children. If you require further details then please contact the Children’s Centre on 0151 233 6202.

When the weather gets nice and the sun’s out, it can tend to motivate us even more to exercise outside. If you are doing any exercise outside, then the number one thing you need to think about is the sun. Not only is its exposure going to increase the temperature, it can also be dangerous for your skin, and increase the chances of developing skin cancer (as I’ve had a bit of experience with). Five tips for staying safe in the dun, while training:

1. Obviously, wear sunscreen. Use a high factor and cover all sensitive areas. I’m afraid I always used to sunbathe between 1pm and 3pm because I always felt that the sun was at its hottest – and it is. If you are in the sun during this time, please be careful. Use the areas that are under the shade as much as possible. I also have sun lotion in my car now. 2. Wearing a hat or sunglasses can look pretty cool throughout the summer but make sure that either or both of them block out the sun and protect your eyes. 3. Stay hydrated – another obvious one.
If you are training outside, have water with you and make sure you are hydrated before your session 4. Wear loose clothing and something that you are going to be comfortable LQ $ WLJKW ÀWWLQJ WRS RU bottoms may make you feel uncomfortable training in the heat. 5. Maybe choose to train early in the morning or late evening, as the temperature won’t be as warm. Q Free week of Boxercise classes. South do the treble By Jim Stanway
SOUTH Liverpool FC completed one of the greatest seasons in their long and illustrious history by winning the Pyke Cup (West Cheshire League 1st division cup) in a tight encounter with local rivals Mossley Hill Athletic at Cammell Lairds FC. Two goals from leading scorer, centre forward Cameron Dalton, proved to be just enough to ease past determined opponents in a 2-1 win. The cup win was the FXOPLQDWLRQ RI D PDJQLĂ€FHQW fortnight for the club. Having defeated Maghull and Vauxhall Motors in successive matches in midApril to knock them both out of contention for the league title, two games against their last remaining rivals Chester Nomads clinched the league title. A 1-0 win in Chester, with a headed goal by Danny Ventre, meant that a draw at home three days later would EH VXIĂ€FLHQW A goalless draw at Jericho

River Juniors are under 10s league champions RIVER Juniors FC under 10s completed a fantastic season in the Merseyside and Halewood JFL by winning the Premier League title. Even more amazing was the fact that the team did not drop one single point all season, winning every game they played. The title was clinched with an emphatic 8-1 win against Stockholm in a tremendous performance. The previous week the boys set up the opportunity to clinch the title with a 6-0 win versus Venny Vipers. It was a fantastic effort from the all the boys especially as the team only
used nine players all season. The goals were shared amongst Peters, the Trapasso brothers, Smith, Ward and Edgar. The Scotland Road JFL campaign ended with a surprising 1-1 draw against a battling Breeze team. The boys were dominant for large parts of the game but could not put their chances away and were hit by a sucker punch Breeze equaliser in the second half. After an exhausting campaign the boys, parents and manager Kev Edgar were glad to see an end to the season and have a deserved break before the
summer campaign starts in the Edge Hill JFL Summer League where the boys move up to nine-a-side from the seven-a-side format they have played since they were six and seven years old. It was a great way to end their mini soccer adventure, which isn’t fully over as the boys will be entering a few tournaments around the Merseyside and North West areas over the summer months. Team: D. Jones, K. Kamara, C. Murphy, N. Doforo, L. Roberts, S. Smith, A. Peters, T. Clayton, H. Edgar, J. Storey, C. Trapasso, A. Trapasso, K. Ward.
