The hamlet was clustered around a wooded green with an ornamental chained fence at the junction of two roads bordered by farms, mansions
and cottages. Honey’s Green – better known as The Triangle – has been a feature of the area for generations. Acentury ago it had a very different atmosphere as a quiet

sive housing development from the late 1920s after this part of Town Row was gentrified into Leyfield Road. At about the same time Back Lane was renamed Eaton Road. Doubtless building companies thought these more upmarket titles would help sell houses. The postcard shows the view towards what is now Blackmoor Park School. To the left, behind the trees, can be seen the outline of Leyfield Priory – a massive castellated mansion with a tower. The house and surrounding walls were made from sandstone excavated when the huge railway cutting was built between Edge Hill and Lime Street. Many other buildings and structures were made from the same source. Greenhouses can be
seen with other buildings in the centre of the picture. Beautiful peacocks strutted in the well-kept grounds, sometimes roosting in trees overlooking the road. Alarge pond had a bridge for fishing. The cottage on the right is still there although there has been much infilling over the years as small holdings and gardens were developed. The Triangle was much larger than it is now – it was considerably reduced in size about 40 years ago. The green was once used for burying muchloved horses from neighbouring houses. When I attended Blackmoor Park in the 1950s there were still traces of outbuildings from Leyfield Priory on the site of The Bulldog. Leyfield Farm, its traditional barns and
outbuildings surrounded by semi-detached houses, stood almost opposite the school. One day there was great excitement as smoke billowed out of the farm – fire engines came rushing over with bells clanging. Our lollipop man wore a white coat, peaked black cap and a carried a large red sign saying CHIL-
