Holi: Festival of Colors Interactive Celebration*

Thursday, March 17 7 p.m. • Carman Community Room Help celebrate the Indian holiday tradition of Holi, which marks the beginning of spring. We’ll begin with a presentation of traditions, and continue with the throwing of colors for a collaborative piece that will be put on display in the library. Make your own piece of wearable art to take home.

National Quilt Day with Plank Road Quilt Guild

Celebrate National Quilt Day with the Plank Road Quilt Guild. Quilters will bring examples of their work and answer questions in this informal show and tell. Children 8-12 are invited to attend Let’s Learn to Sew, which runs at the same time.

Tom Henry leads a small-group workshop that will include reading, discussion, national guest speakers and two field trips (physical or virtual) to historical locations, the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation and the Women’s Rights National Historical Park. Next sessions will meet on May 12 and 26, and June 9 and 23. Participants must complete five readings and attend all sessions.

The Evolution of Political Parties in the U.S. III*

Tom Henry continues his series looking at the evolution of political parties in the U.S. This session will discuss parties formed post-Civil War, including political bosses, the reform movement and the rise of the Progressives.

Talking about death doesn’t have to be all gloom. Now that we’ve learned how to write an obituary ourselves, Bob Baker, former obituary writer for The Post-Standard, will share stories of his time there.

Shipwrecks of the Thousand Islands and Eastern Lake Ontario* Monday, April 25 • 7 p.m. Carman Community Room & ZOOM

Ellen Brody and Bill Crist of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association will provide an overview of the proposed National Marine Sanctuary that will include eastern Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The presentation will look at the vast collection of maritime heritage resources in the area, including historic shipwrecks.

CNY Reads Agatha Christie: Mystery in the Stacks

Agatha Christie And Then There Were None*

CNY Reads and the LPL celebrate mystery writer Agatha Christie’s talent in this year’s collaborative event. Drop in to solve a mystery just like Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple. Pick up a mystery at the Information @ LPL Desk and then search the stacks for the clues. When you think you’re done, turn it in at the desk to see if you’re right and claim a prize. The 2022 CNY Reads selection is the fictional tale based on the famous author, The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict.

Agatha Christie’s writing has been celebrated across the world. This program, presented by CNY Reads and the LPL, will start with participants solving a mystery and will include a discussion of Christie’s life and work, the 2022 CNY Reads selection The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict, and a showing of the 1945 film adaptation of her famous novel And Then There Were None.

Create cat castles to help celebrate National Pet Week. Have fun with the whole family. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Become a card shark with some of our Crazy 8s games. Then we will break out the giant floor-dart game for Daring Darts. This event will add up to good times.

Learn some new egg decorating techniques to brighten up your holiday table or just for fun. Bring one dozen hard-boiled eggs and be prepared to get messy.
