Welcome to the November Beat It’s been an incredible start to the year for LiverpoolSU and LJMU students. We’ve had the biggest Welcome Fest on record with over 10,000 students visiting the Students’ Union on Maryland Street during welcome week – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! We’d also like to say a massive thank you to all 1400 of you who voted in our referendum – giving us the support we needed to move forward with our new plan to help make sure all our students love student life. November and December look like they are going to be just as exciting and busy! In this issue of the Beat you can find out what we’ve got planned for the coming months including trips to Chester Zoo, student campaigns, volunteering opportunities and our annual Dodgeball Demolition competition… We’re here to make sure there’s something for everyone – so come on, get involved! LiverpoolSU is led by student officers who are elected by you. For students who want to get more involved there are plenty of opportunities. Why not start a campaign, come along to one of our forums, get a part-time job in our bar, or do some volunteering for a worthwhile cause? Whatever you get up to during your time at LJMU, LiverpoolSU will be on hand to help make sure you love it!

Campaigns Students vote ‘YES’ – we will love student life!
97% YES
This month LJMU students overwhelmingly voted in favour of LiverpoolSU’s new plan to help make sure they love student life. 97% of the 1,400 students who voted approved our strategic objectives for the next three years, to 2014. We now have a plan to make sure students love their academic life, their work life, their social life and we’ll support and campaign with you all to make it happen. You can view the plan on www.liverpoolsu. com or pick up a copy from the Haigh Building or our pods at Tithebarn Street Social Study Space or I M Marsh student zone.
Caution: Zombies spotted in noisy areas Over the next couple of months our SSHH! campaign will be focusing on reducing noise in your area. Part of our role as your Students’ Union is to help make sure you’re getting on well with local residents. LiverpoolSU Community Reps can help with any problems you have in your neighbourhood – from safety issues, to finding out what day you need to put your bins out.

Darren McCabe, LiverpoolSU President said “I’m delighted that LJMU students have approved our plan. Our ambitious strategic objectives for LiverpoolSU will help make sure our members love student life. We’re now looking forward to making them happen!”
Please be aware of the noise you make in the evenings, even the slightest sudden noise is enough to disrupt your neighbourhood. The SSHH! campaign video has been put together by a team of students at LJMU – beware, making noise in your neighbourhood could set off the zombies! – we wouldn’t want that, would we? Check out www.liverpoolsu.com/sshhtudents to find out more! The SSHH! campaign is being run by James McGarvey, Vice President Community at LiverpoolSU. To comment on the campaign, get involved or show your support email James – LSUVPC@ljmu.ac.uk

The Inter Faith forum is also a great opportunity to discuss faith issues on campus. If you’ve got something to say about the prayer rooms, the food for people of faith, or a new idea for ways faith could be celebrated at LJMU then come along. The Inter Faith forum will be hosted at LiverpoolSU, The Haigh Building, Maryland Street on the 16th November from 4-5pm. For more information contact Kelly by emailing k.a.hayes@2009.ljmu.ac.uk 5
