Introduction David has a story starting from when he was unemployed at 16 years old through to today where he is planning to stand for election in the City of London. Every year he is invited to speak with business leaders, people in government, charities and to students in education. He specialises in an hour-long format where he will share on a prepared theme for twenty minutes and then open up for Q&A (sessions can also run longer to 1.5 hours). The transferable advice and insights shared from his talks always leaves a lasting impact with the participants.
Example Story Timeline
In 1987 I was 16 years old and Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). I was told by my careers advisor I’d never get into technology because of my poor background It was an apprenticeship via the YTS scheme that saved my life and gave me a chance. Seven years later, in 1994, I became one of the first UK internet entrepreneurs Over the next ten years my company became one of the top ten UK digital agencies and personally I became very wealthy in the capitalist system In 2004 I became disillusioned with a system where a few have extreme wealth and the many are left with a lack of social mobility. What I now call the “broken system”. I resigned from my internet company in October 2004 and started a journey to get involved in finding ways to fix the broken system. What happened next is now published in my book: #eSociety: In the Digital Age, No One Should Be Left Behind (www.esocietybook.com). The story in the book takes us to the end of December 2016, where I have made the decision to stand as a councillor in the City of London in March 2017.
