February 2017 Dear Headteacher I am writing to you with the latest news from Livery Schools Link. As many of you know LSL is an organisation whose aim is to facilitate links between various Livery Companies of the City of London and schools. * The annual conference for secondary school Headteachers will take place on the morning of July 7 2017 at Staple Inn Hall. The theme is apprenticeships with presentations by the Lord Mayor and Baroness Wolf of Dulwich as well as time for round table discussions. The event provides an opportunity to members of the Livery concerned with education to discuss and exchange views with the Heads on how Livery and schools can work together to help pupils. Heads are welcome to send a relevant member of senior staff if they cannot attend themselves. * The LSL Careers Showcase will take place on March 20 2017 at the Guildhall. We are expecting around 30 Livery Companies to take stands there and show pupils of Year 9 and upwards from a range of schools the careers available in their area. About 700 students have registered to come so far. If you are interested to send a group of students please contact David Simmons david.nsimmons@btopenworld.com * We are pleased to say that we have secured sufficient funding to start further work on the volunteer engagement platform. The platform is intended to match requests from schools for volunteer involvement in activities such as careers talks with Livery members who are prepared to volunteer their time. The pilot is planned to be launched in April 2017 and will be presented at the July 7 Heads-Livery conference. When the platform is ready this will replace the current manual matching of volunteers and schools. * The art work from the schools project on World War 1 ‘Echoes across the Century’ funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund will be on display in the Guildhall Art Gallery from March 30 2017. Fifteen Livery Companies and eleven schools have been involved in this project. It promises to be a visually exciting and thought provoking exhibition and it is hoped that many will visit before it closes in July. * We continue to provide themed career events for a small number of schools. The Barbers offer one on careers in Medicine and another on Jobs in the Water is planned. Please be in touch if you would like to know more about any of these events. Yours sincerely Lis Goodwin Chair Livery Schools Link Ltd lisgoodwin@btinternet.com
