We will deliver bulls free of charge up to 300 miles. After 300 miles, standard trucking rates will apply. If the buyer is unable to take their purchase on sale day, we will board the bulls free of charge until April 1. A $100 discount will be given for any bull taken home sale day.

What a time to be in the cattle business. After years of subsequent drought and a multitude of challenges, we are reaping the rewards of perseverance. What has become increasingly apparent to us over the last 3 years is how endlessly important it is to have cattle that work for us, and not the other way around.

In the modern day and age of ever increasing input costs, perpetually shorthanded labor situations, and land prices sustaining all time values we have found that a maternal, problem free cowherd is the only way to be competitive year in and out and insulates us to these challenges. Cattle that thrive on grazing low quality invasive grass species and crop residues for a minimum of 300 plus days out of the year is not only the goal, but the expectation. Cows that do not require attention at calving for any reason, and most importantly love that calf beyond any other instinctual motivation is what we demand.

Stacking pedigrees with influential sires and dams is the number one selection criteria for us because we have found often times unproven, performance based bloodlines just simply don’t have the consistency and inherent do-ability to function in grazing based programs. While I am certainly not disciplined enough to run a true linebreeding program, we are not afraid of overlapping these legacy sires and dams multiple times within 2 or 3 generations. We find this is the most consistent way to achieve cows that last.

To quote Clay Conry, “Fertility drives the bus”, and the statistics behind the national cowherd average life span is alarming. These cows that have the gas to raise eventual 1600-1700 lb. fat steers are often long gone by age 6. In many instances, less than 40% of the replacement heifers retained will reach their prime as a brood cow. To add fuel to this fire, Oklahoma State studies show that the national weaning weight average hasn’t increased since the early 2000s. Indicating to us, these high powered EPDs don’t work consistently enough in restricted production environments to justify the decrease in fertility and functionality. We feel cow longevity is the most important metric by which to measure the genetics we use. This isn’t just encompassing the fleshing ability to get bred in a 45 day breeding season; but the udder suspension and teat size to get the job done, feet that keep those animals sound and grazing for a living and wean an economically viable calf in a production budget that will be in excess of $1,000 to run a cow annually.

More maternal with more muscle is what our cattle will bring to the table. Cows that will add or maintain weaning weights, keep mature size in check, while increasing fleshing ability. Bulls that will inject shape and dimension, increase breed character and masculinity, while improving feet and udder quality. You will notice that nearly all of our bulls on offer possess breed leading maintenance energy and maternal trait predictors.

Aside from infertility, all other guarantees will be made through insurance only. For customers who choose to insure their bulls on sale day, York Creek Red Angus will pay 50% of the policy premium for Options 1-3, or up to 6.25% for Option 4 listed on the following insurance page. Insurance representatives will be present at the sale to insure purchases in person and over the phone. There is free delivery within 300 miles, and free boarding until April 1. We will still be offering a $100 cash discount to anyone wanting to take his or her bull home directly after the sale.

Once again, thank you very much for your interest in the program, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to give us a call or swing by anytime to take a look at the bulls or cowherd. Videos will be posted to DVAuction and Livestock Digital. If you can't be at the sale in person, online bidding is available through DVAuction and CattleUSA. Please see the list of sale day contacts for over the phone bidding as well.

YCRA FOREIGNER E127 #3758125

Calved: 05-02-2017 • Sire: RED U-2 FOREIGNER 413B

YCRA Foreigner E127 has proven to be without a question the single most influential sire to our program. Not only in the attention his sons have commanded, but more importantly in the daughters entering production and raising the new generation of breeding stock. This offering will be the advent of a dwindling in his direct contributions to the calf crop as we rely just as heavily on natural service breeding as artificial. Following our 2023 sale, Select Sires Argentina purchased the South American semen rights on him, and much of his time is now being spent at bull stud. In addition, we are marketing semen with Mike Marlow at Premium Beef Genetics. They can handle all your needs if you are interested in purchasing semen on a bull that I think the Red Angus breed has been begging for.

RED BAR-E-L AB MAGIC MIKE 189Z #2462763

Calved: 03-18-2012 • Sire: RED TOWAW INDEED 104H

Magic Mike is an elite female maker that has had my attention for over a decade. Not only was his genetic influence hard to acquire monetarily, but also from a standpoint of availability. He combines two the of the undisputed best female makers in North America with Indeed and Red Knight. His dam is one of the best red angus cows to ever live.

YCRA FOREIGNER FH50 #4424319

Calved: 11-01-2020 • Sire: YCRA FOREIGNER E127

The most rugged and heavily constructed Foreigner we have raised to date. He was the high seller in the 2022 sale to Olsen Red Angus at Wiota, IA. His huge potential as a breeding piece was realized shortly after with his unique ability to stamp his sons and daughters with that same kind of dimension and power. We have experienced the same success with him in our program. Semen is available with Olsen’s and will be the best purchase one can make if you need to power up a set of cows in one generation.

YCRA FOREIGNER FH10 #4424369

Calved: 08-26-2020 • Sire: YCRA FOREIGNER E127

Our pick from the 2022 crop of bulls, he is living up to the expectations to be the son to replace YCRA Foreigner E127 in our program. In terms of libido, he matches the old bull’s thirst for covering cows and holding his condition while servicing well over 80 females a year. Although not quite as massive as his sire in terms of his muscle shape, his daughters are out of this world and more refined in their teat size. His Herdbuilder numbers are legit.

DVO A BULL NAMED SUH 179F #4048330

Calved: 08-20-2018 • Sire: RED BAR-E-L FIRST DOWN 161D

This bull caught my attention as the most attractive son of Bar E-L First Down 161D that Tannon Dvorak had raised to date in 2020. While not explicitly needing another resident herdsire at that point, I elected to purchase semen on him from Eric Ravenscroft following the sale. He was the avenue to inject the perpetually unavailable First Down genetics into the program. The cattle are blood red, highly maternal, and full of breed character. We look forward to continuing to plug him in to high value matings.

RED OLE OSCAR 429H #4778959

Calved: 05-16-2020 • Sire: RED CROWFOOT OLE'S OSCAR

A big time calving ease bull we identified at Ole Farms in 2022 as one of the best Oscar sons to sell in recent history. The addition of the original Foreigner 413B on the bottom side of the pedigree adds muscle and faith in the breeding. He is an extremely high libido bull that is an aggressive service sire and has been very successful on virgins.

RED OLE CROWFOOT 689H #4778963

Calved: 05/14/2020 • Sire: Red Crofoot 6253S

The high selling red bull from the Ole Farms 2022 sale, he is as multi-dimensional of a sire as any we have identified from outside programs. His dam’s foot and udder scores were herd standouts, and with addition of Crowfoot 6253S blood we feel the functionality of these cattle will be out of this world. Calving ease, elite female making genetics with muscle and masculinity make him a breeding piece who’s future we are ecstatic about.

C-BAR RED BARON 207J #4534321

Calved: 03-01-2021 • Sire: LACY COLLUSION 115F

Red Baron was a bull we acquired semen on after seeing how phenotypically unique he was as a yearling. More so than any other sire in the sale, he will add performance and has exceptionally good numbers across the board.

RED RMJ REDMAN 1T #1417390

Calved: 01-30-2007 • Sire: 5L NORSEMAN KING 2291

One of the all time great female makers who continues to see relevance in the most respected programs in North America. Redman is one of the cornerstone sires in our program, and his limited direct progeny will be the results of very specific matings designed to make cattle that will match the old bull for maternal excellence.

RED OLE FOREIGNER 481G #4966134

Calved: 05-15-2019 • Sire: RED U-2 FOREIGNER 413B (pictured)

This herdsire was purchased when we realized how valuable YCRA Foreigner E127 was proving to be in our program, and doubled down on those bloodlines. He is a ¾ sib to E127, but due to an untimely demise we have been relegated to using him artificially only. Like E127, he was one of the best footed red angus bulls we have ever seen, and will stack muscle and calving ease into his calves with incredible consistency.

BROWN JYJ REVELATION X1267 #1388869

Calved: 01-02-2010 • Sire: BROWN REVELATION P7021

One of legacy herdsires here at York Creek Red Angus that helped move our program forward in a big way. He will add length to his calves, and sire females that simply just don’t fall out before 10 years of age hardly ever.

YCRA FOREIGNER E127 RED OLE COPPER 357Z

ROJAS RIOJA 6052

H/H BECCA 1202 SLGN STONY'S BECCA 4215

Noticed by literally everyone who has come to evaluate bulls, L110 is the culmination of some of the highest powered genetics on the place and embodies exactly what we are trying to propagate in our program. E127 may have finally produced the son who might actually outdo the old bull for raw muscle, masculinity, and foot quality. His dam, Becca 1202, infuses another level of bone and dimension into her first natural calf. Sons were features in last year’s sale going to Freedom Hills Ranch/Adolph Red Angus in Mount Carroll, IL. 1600 lbs of actual weight in a 4.5 frame as an 18 month old, this herdsire has real world muscle that the breed is begging for. We plan to move forward with him in our program and are happy to discuss arrangements to accommodate potential partners.

YCRA MATERNAL MAGIC L15

Folks this mating is maternal magic and as crazy as it sounds 10 years in the making. I stopped at Bar E-L in Alberta for the first time as a 20 year old kid and I was immediately captivated by the Magic Mike sire group Dave and Lynne Longshore had on display. This elite female maker goes back to Indeed twice within 3 generations, and combines Red Knight via Meg 85N, a top 5 Red Angus cow ever in existence. Maternal Magic ’s dam, Red Ole Blackbird 140Z, was my pick of the herd from over 1000 females evaluated at Ole Farms that day. She is chalked full of timeless Shoderee and Crowfoot breeding and has sons working in seedstock herds across Alberta.

A real sale feature in lot 6. L141’s sire, FH10, has shown that the previous sale’s high selling sire group was no fluke. These Hotblooded’s may not be as rugged as their grandfather, YCRA Foreigner E127, but they bring an extra shot of eye appeal, add length, and up the ante for udder quality. L141’s top 5% Herdbuilder Index is legit. This is a bull to build a program around. Lot 6’s dam is a hardworking cow that has a 104 weaning weight index on her first 3 calves, and her commercial son was a sale feature in last year’s offering going to longtime customer Ray Veale in King City, MO. Her pedigree includes some of the highest quality female makers in the breed in recent history with Mulberry and Redman. - Top 5% HB, 10% Milk, and 22% Stay

One of my personal favorites in the offering, he is one of the heaviest bulls to sell today and comes from possibly the best cow family in the program. His dam is an ideal female that is fat year round with a near perfect udder. She very much embodies the functionality and high fertility that is lacking in so many programs in this modern day of digital selection technology. I think the combination of the added power, elevated libido, and improved foot quality of the Foreigner bloodline with the Squall cow family that traces to timeless maternal greats like Moonshine, Ole’s Oscar, and Indeed makes for a fantastic herdsire prospect. Note: Due registration holdups the EPDs listed above are his parental averages. 70 lb actual BW

Very much the same story as his brother before him, but lot 7 bring a shot of more mass and weight to the table. #4969142

The last of the sire group but offers a ton of genetic upside. He is a full sibling in blood to the York Creek Red Angus all time high selling bull to Richard Gardiner at Williamson, GA. Lot 12 is thick, athletic, and masculine. Turn him loose on a big group of females and let him get to work. Like all of the Hotblooded’s, notice the herdbuilding traits. It isn’t by accident.

Top 15% Herdbuilder, top 3% ME, and 24% DMI

We are getting into a sire group that has been highly anticipated since 2022. YCRA Foreigner FH50, the sire of these next bulls, was truly a freak. Without question, the stoutest, heaviest constructed son of E127 we ever raised. He commanded a $16,000 valuation in our 2022 sale to Gary and Linda Olsen at Olsen Red Angus. L92 follows closest in kind to his sire and is the result of a very intentional mating to one of the best cows in the program, YCRA Kuruba D86. Again, like many of these bulls selling today, she anchors the mating with some of the most maternal programs in North America: Diamond D, Crowfoot Cattle Co, 5L, and Red Hill. Lot 13 is such a unique blend of masculinity, raw power with rarified maternal distinction that we truly believe he has as much value as any individual on offer.

Great calving ease prospect out of a first calf heifer. With Franchise on the bottom side of the pedigree he should be a lay up for low birthweight offspring. Really nice scrotal on this bull.

A commercial Foreigner son that is so typical of his bloodline. Dark red, wide chested, masculine, and stout. His dam is a good purebred cow from a great cow family, but due to database issues he cannot be fully registered. Watch him, this could be the steal of the sale. 64 lb actual BW. A real sale feature here, his picture doesn’t do him justice. He is proud and extended through his shoulder with plenty of power. His dam is the esteemed donor that the Magic Mike sire group shares. These 481G’s are highly related to our E127 bloodline, with just a slight difference on the maternal side. They were the high selling sire group at Ole Farms in Alberta last year, and the Olson’s are doubling down on this breeding piece for his combination of low birthweights, muscle, and foot shape. Big testicles on this young herdsire, I think he has more calving ease potential than his numbers indicate. 21% Herdbuilder, 16% ME, and 3% HPG 34Lot

BROWN JYJ REVELATION

We were cleaning out the semen tank a bit, and used a very popular sire from about 10 years ago, Redemption Y1334. I think Redemption adds validity to the fleshing ability and calving ease equation, while the Lassie FH54 cow should improve the hock and lower leg structure that could be a problem in some of those Redemption cattle. This is a dark featured bull that can be plugged into a lot of situations.

Commercial Replacements

We will again be offering replacements heifers from the heart of our program, as well as some of our best customers’ herds. These females will be a unique opportunity for folks looking to fast track their programs with many of the same genetics that have been offered in the bulls. We will sell these groups of females by age, starting with the older heavier heifers and moving towards the younger end. As always, the protocol for these consignments will be to have had their bangs vaccinations, pre breeding shots, and wormed on top of progressive calf vaccination programs.

Lots 50-89:

40 Red Angus Commercial Replacements from Smith Land and Cattle

The Smith family has been customers and friends for as long as I can remember. They have systematically purchased sets of females from us as they have expanded their cowherd to over 200 cows. Progressive and uncompromising in what it takes to be successful in agriculture is what comes to mind about this operation. These females will have generations of York Creek Red Angus blood and a management scheme to highlight that genetic potential.

Lots 90-119:

30 Red Angus Commercial Replacements from Dan Kahlandt, Tekamah NE

Kahlandts are large operators in some pretty rough country in the Missouri River bluffs north of Tekamah. They have been buying bulls from us for about as long as we have been in business, and we really appreciate the continued support. Some of the best bulls we have sold are running on the place. Dan has always been one not to cut corners, and his attention to detail shows in their multi generation cowherd. In addition to a solid calf vaccination program, the heifers will all have their pre-breeding shots, bangs vaccinations, and wormed prior to the sale.

Lots 120-129:

10

Red Angus Commercial Replacements from Larry Ratashak, Thurman IA

We will be offering a draft of one of the better sets of heifers you are going to find in Southwest Iowa. Larry has always bought our best bulls we have on offer, and if you were to stop by you would notice the expectation level is higher on these cattle than in many places. These heifers have not been pampered, and have been still running out on grass through the first of the year. Larry is a staunch believer in low input genetics, and these females earn their keep. Expect them to hit the ground running come nicer weather. These heifers will come with a green tag herd vaccination program, pre breeding and bangs vaccinations, and wormed prior to the sale.

Lots 130-144:

15

Red Angus Commercial Replacements from York Creek Red Angus, Herman, NE

These heifers ran with their mothers on sandhills range for the majority of their lives. They have not seen an ounce of creep feed, and are majority are out of 6-8 year old cows that originate from the famed Hall-Pokorny Red Angus herd north of Stapleton NE.
