This year’s Wolfpack Roundup starts with something that is truly one of a kind. A special thank you to Tamara Morrison for creating and donating this unique masterpiece. But not only that, Tamara has shown her continuous support to the Beef Education Unit behind the scenes in a way that few get to see. Tamara has prepared and served countless meals to Beef Education Unit employees during long days when things get hectic and meals are not a second thought to us. She also adds an extra set of hands when help is short on busy days and a pair of eyes when our calvers need to be checked up on. Tamara is a tremendous addition to the Beef Education Unit and helps keep us all a little more sane. From all of us at the Beef Education Unit, thank you Tamara!
This quilt was designed and created specifically for the NCSU Wolfpack Roundup sale as an option for people who are not able to buy livestock but would like to support NC State students learn about and gain experience working with cattle. The fabrics used are based on NCSU colors and the cattle fabric chosen represents the breeds of cattle raised at the E. Carroll Joyner Beef Education Unit. Proceeds from this sale lot will go directly to support student activities at the Beef Education Unit.

With the Wolfpack Roundup sale o ering multiple breeds of cattle of varying ages across three consigners it’s typically a challenge to determine the sale order and designate a lot 1. That simply was not the case this year as there’s nothing typical about 10F. Here’s a huge opportunity to buy into the heart of our Hereford program. 10F has earned her American Hereford Association Dam of Distinction status while successfully working in our donor program. 10F daughters have worked great in production and sons have been easy to sell. with bull calf at side, born on March 6th, sired by /S MENTOR 22023 ET. If you need more convincing that this is the kind of female it takes to make improvements in the breed, check out her daughter 02M selling as lot 5.
Seller retains the right to one successful flush at buyer’s convenience and seller’s expense.
With the continued support of Vytelle, we are able to o er a unique genetic opportunity. Vytelle will conduct an Ovum pick up on 10F as part of the educational program the morning of the sale. Oocytes will be shipped to the Vytelle lab in Ohio. Oocytes will be fertilized to the buyer’s choice of CHURCHILL KINGDOM 128J ET (AHA 44267937), NJW 202C173D STEADFAST 156J ET (AHA 44276463) or NJW 11B 173D Character 178J ET (AHA 44272817). With a shortage of baldy bred heifers to sell this year we decided to dip into the cowherd to help meet the demand for the F1 Baldy. A rare opportunity to capitalize on the baldy advantage in a proven package. Another female that’s calved every year in a 45-day window and just keeps breeding back. With high cattle prices, she’s almost as good as a printing press.
With the E. Carroll Joyner Beef Education Unit’s manager’s hoarding tendencies, we’ve retained a large number of high quality heifers. Unfortunately, there is a finite amount of grass and an increased need to recover operating costs. This has led to the largest and deepest set of fall-bred heifers to be o ered in the Wolfpack Roundup. This group of heifers was developed on grass and supplemented with 7 pounds of a soybean hull whiskey distiller blend. Heifers have wintered on the same mixed commodity feed and grass hay.

Purposefully made to add muscle to an Angus cow family that has stood the test of time. 53L’s dam just preg-checked safe again at 14 years old. Being sired by the historic SAV Net Worth 4200, 53L won’t catch the attention of breeders chasing the hottest trends, but cattlemen that are in it for the long haul won’t let this one pass by. This is a heifer who from conception we never intended to sell, but we can’t keep them all.

When we made the move to incorporate the Gelbvieh breed at the beef unit, there was a sole focus on generating productive females that stay in the herd. 65L is the result of that commitment; her pedigree is a proven combination between GHGF Shear Force 81A and FMGF Blue’s Impact 001X. Shear Force 81A was on loan to us from Green Hills and was breeding cows at 10 years old. Blue’s Impact 001X is still breeding at 14. An opportunity to cancel out the noise and buy what works.

A unique opportunity for the progressive cattlemen with an ET program or the commercial cattlemen that knows it takes milk to grow those big calves. Lots 21 and 22 are the result of the beef on dairy program (Angus x Holstein), heifers were dra ed on to fall calving cows at a young age and raised out in the pasture. Both lots are confirmed safe to CRAVENS EXPONENTIAL 2213 for early September calves.
Lot 21
Lot 22
Each year students castrate the majority of male calves during labs at the E. Carroll Joyner Beef Education Unit. At weaning bulls are sorted again, and they undergo a final sort when we record yearling weights. This ensures that only the best bulls are o ered in the WPRU. The bulls o ered in this year’s sale are a true representation of our program and will undergo a breeding soundness exam prior to sale day.
