We hope this finds you well and looking at the future of the cattle industry with appreciation for the current trends and also with anticipation of a bright future. We are very excited to present the 2025 Simmental Yearling Bull offering! These calves have impressed us from day one! It all started with mating decisions in 2023 as we made a conscious effort to increase our birth-weight with the selection of some powerful herd sires! We purchased LCDR Retro (ironically named for his muscle exhibit reminiscent of Simmentals of the past) and also used his full brothers, Anthem and Embrace. We sampled two of the 2023 CDI sale offering: CDI Elevation and CDI Omaha, and we heavily used CDI Nazareth after a nice trial run in 2022 and continued with a power favorite, LCDR Impact. Along with the increase in birth-weight, a beautiful calving season, wonderful grass during the summer, and some additional Vitamin E supplementation at the recommendation of a fellow breeder, we realized nearly 100 additional pounds at weaning.
From weaning to carcass ultra-sounding in early January, we fed 85 days for a 3 pound gain. We struggled with consumption and determined that the holdover high moisture ground corn just wasn’t their favorite. After January 8th we gradually converted to dry corn and a ration balanced for 4# of gain and maintained that for 19 days when our feed test concluded at 104 days with an average daily gain of 3.4lbs. If you analyze the ultrasound data you will notice the back fat is moderately low. We’d love for you to visit the ranch and evaluate the PHENOTYPE of our sale offering, their sires and dams. We hope you will agree that there is POWER: depth, length and thickness exhibited in the bulls and their parents. There are many ways to evaluate bulls. Some say with all the tools: EPDs, DNA, mating services, etc., that a visual isn’t even necessary anymore. We would disagree! And we are encouraged that PHENOTYPE is making a comeback as a valid evaluation tools.
In recent weeks the American Simmental Association (ASA) has been sending out links to meetings hosted by the ASA featuring the International Genetics Solutions (IGS) panel discussions. IGS represents all breeds of commercial beef cattle producers with the goal of delivering user friendly, science-based genetic predictions to enhance profitability
for beef cattle producers The topics and proposed changes to the current meat grading system are game changers for breeders and commercial producers alike. Some of the takeaways from the 4 sessions include:
*The current yield grade measurement evaluation system needs to be thrown out or revised. This revamp is projected in 3-5 years. If it is not supported by the USDA, the packers will move forward with the implementation of a more holistic red meat yield eval. *A visual evaluation of phenotype, with attention to hind quarter carry down (round exhibit), is the best current indicator of red meat yield. *Carcasses are getting larger, currently 5 pounds/year, and this trend will continue with an effort to satisfy the need caused by low cattle numbers.
*There is too much tallow being produced with an average of 450 pounds/carcass. According to data for all cattle killed in 2023, discounts of $508,888,786 for yield grades 4 and 5 far outweigh premiums of $130,038,250 for yield grades 1 and 2. Focus on phenotype and total conformation will increase feed efficiency and decrease excess fat. These meetings are thought-provoking and pertinent to commercial cattlemen as well as breeders. Links to the meetings are found at internationalgeneticsolutions.com under the IGS Home link “Carcass Evolution: Shaping Beef’s Future” and are listed as follows under the Beef Carcass Dynamics tab: Beef Carcass Trends Panel Discussion, Yield Grade Challenges and Tallow Value, Beef X Dairy Opportunities and Challenges, Value Proposition for Beef: Knowing What the Consumer Wants in their Protein.
We are grateful for all the support you have shown us over the years. We love to talk Simmental and we enjoy meeting new people or catching up with old friends! Come view the bulls before sale day and receive a $250 discount off a bull purchase. Stay tuned to DVAuction.com for C Diamond sale offering videos early in February. See you soon!

Our feed test ran for 104 days and included the weaning period. PNC Feeds of Hebron, ND conducted feed tests and balanced our rations. During the 85 day period from weaning to carcass ultrasound early in January, the bulls were fed a 3 pound gain ration. At this point we moved from high moisture ground corn to dry corn and implemented a 4 pound gain ration for 19 days until the feed test concluded. The 104 day average gain was 3.4 pounds per day.
Delivery:
Yearling bulls will be fed for free, semen tested and delivered after April 1st. Bulls will be delivered free of charge up to 250 miles from the ranch. Level 1-Up to $19,999 we will retain 33% semen interest.
Level 2-$20,000 and above we will retain 25% semen interest.
We will be offering the following discounts for volume bull buyers:
3 head – 3% off total purchases
4 head – 4% off total purchases
5 head or more – 5% off total purchases
We would appreciate open dialogue concerning moving forward with marketing semen, promotion and cost sharing and reserve the right to opt out at our discretion. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.
Please note the docility score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle: 1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

Wow, just wow!! Where to start on this stud? Let’s start with his actual data and work off of that. 75 lb BW to just short of 800 at WW, where he was tied for the highest ADG at 4.7 lbs leading to a 1531 YW and ranking #2. Then he marbled really well and ratioed 108, but one of the coolest things I’ve seen when examining his data is his 0.13 BF score ranking 61/64 and ratioing 68. How can you carry so much weight without putting on fat?!?! Then he, of course, threw down a bigger REA at 15.36 for a 104 ratio. He is also framed around 6.2 so not too big but not too small and has big nuts at over 38. He is wonderfully structured with a tabletop back with a rear end that has excellent pop! He has nice neck extension, with a smooth shoulder. Not too gutty but enough depth of rib. Then you move over to his EPD profile and that’s where things get really neat! Good CE and BW, 1% YW, TI, DOC and CW, 2% WW, ADG, and MARB and 3% API and MWW. I believe this bull has a lot of potential!

• His dam, CDI Ms Affirmed 105K, is built very similar to him

• Very interesting calf data-wise
• Look at how his moderate BW translated into very respectable performance but then his carcass data said he did all of that growing while being the leanest natural calf for Back Fat
• One of the best-numbered calves we have to offer 10% or higher for CE, WW, YW, CW, MARB, API and TI
• Could be a sleeper calf in the sale
• Good options for young cows in year one, and then decide if he would work on heifers the following year
• Dam is a perfect uddered Affirmed daughter and one of my favorites
• #1 IMF calf, look to grab a couple of the CDI Rush x Affirmed calves if you are looking to improve muscle as well as marbling
• Almost identical calf to Lot 57, only with a little more frame
• Great Marbling and REA.
• Solid EPD profile.

•
• Dam is daughter of CDI Miss Abundance 42E donor of Brock’s at LCDR • Foot and udder should be very good
• Almost identical pedigree as Lot 56 and very similar results
• Maybe a touch more frame than lot 56
• Very nice bull that should be a very good cow maker
• Nice frame and muscle pattern
• Awesome disposition
• Powerful calf that is going to look really nice by delivery time
• Dam is a great cow that likes having big calves
• Granddam has been a donor for us and is still in the herd as a B model cow
• Good option for guys liking to push their calves post weaning

• Dam is a large cow and sire is too so I wouldn’t be surprised if he outperforms his phenotype
• A calf worth taking a 2nd look at
