Effertz EZ L Ranch Discover O W L I Lowline N E Weekend

Welcome to our Mature Fullblood Cowherd Dispersal and the Discover Lowlines Weekend!

This has been a paramount year in the awakening of the American beef cattle industry to the contribution that Lowline genetics can have to real world commercial beef production. First, the Chain Ranch heifers win the National Western Commercial Heifer Show with a set of halfblood Moderator Plus heifers sired by our 2006 National Champion Little Joe 305R. They competed and won over the Angus, Red Angus, SimAngus, Balancers and several other breeds of commercial heifers in the pen of ten non-fitted competition. They were described as the most uniform, well-muscled and best natural-breeding-body-condition-scored heifers in the show. The National Western sale manager stated that they were ideal weight for western ranches, especially those who have been challenged by the drought since they weighed 730 pounds at the January show and should mature to be 1100-pound

Neil & Jan Effertz & Family 17350 Hwy 1804 N. Bismarck, ND 58503 701-223-5202 701-471-0153 Cell www.loala.com effertz@bektel.com cows.

Second, in his sale catalog, Kirk Duff of Duff Cattle Co., Hobart, OK, stated, “After many sleepless nights over the last 20-plus years of using multiple registered Angus sires, I finally came to the realization that there had to be a better way to calve heifers. Just like many of you, in order to minimize the loss of baby calves out of first-calf heifers, I lived with them. I would move them in close to the barn and check them round the clock night and day and be plum worn out by the time calving season was over. Three years ago, I finally decided there had to be a better solution to this madness. So I began a search for the best low-maintenance, easy-calving Angus genetics available to use on my virgin heifers. After countless hours and many miles, we came across some quality Lowline Angus. Over the last three years, the result has been very satisfying. Here at Power Plus, we have calved over 200 head of virgin heifers bred to Lowline Angus bulls. Additionally, we have supplied hundreds of straws of semen, and we also leased out numerous Lowline Angus bulls to several of our long-time commercial customers in order to test the results over a larger number of cattle in multiple states. We no longer bring our heifers up close to the barn to calve them; they stay out on grass just like the cows during calving. We only check them once a day to tag babies. Birth complications have been minimal, as the birth weights have ranged from 50 to 69 pounds. The calves are vigorous and grow very well. The two lines of Angus genetics are so distantly related, when mated together the result has added hybrid vigor. We have harvested over 100 head of the calves thus far. They have finished on 30% less feed and in considerably less days while also achieving a high percentage of Choice and Prime.” Kirk Duff states about his halfblood Lowline bull, Trust Me, “I can’t say too much here! I’ll bet this bull will sell more semen before it’s done than any other P+ sire has to date!” This is, without question, one of the best bulls ever produced at Duff Cattle Company. He is very complete and well balanced and will sire great, low maintenance females in any breed. Trust Me outperformed all of the other fall bulls, even the purebred Angus bulls! How can you argue with that? Low birth, performance and tons of eye appeal. The bull subsequently sells for $85,000 for half interest and no possession. These two events have stimulated the awareness of Lowlines to commercial cattleman, especially in the southwest, like no two other events that have ever occurred. Many cattlemen are still unaware of these events and are amazed at the description when you tell them about it. It’s exactly what we Lowline breeders have been saying for years about our Lowline cattle but many have not stopped long enough to really listen to our words and really think about what they truly mean. We are seeing unprecedented inquiry about Lowlines. A number of you are new to the breed. If we can help answer any questions about the breed or getting started please let us know. We welcome you here to our ranch in Bismarck. If there is anything we can do to assist you in any way please ask. It is certainly with mixed emotions that we offer these terrific fullblood females for sale as they have been the backbone of our breeding program and each year we look forward to the calves we will get out of these special cows ... almost like they are part of the family. They have been great producers for us and now they can contribute to other breeding programs around the nation. To complement these outstanding fullblood females we have added a number of top-notch percentage Moderator females with a wide variety of percentages, colors and styles. You will see these fullblood cow families represented in our percentage cattle as well as may have produced herd bulls that we have used successfully in our upgrading program. We have a very nice assortment of bulls in a variety of percentages and ages to suit you needs. If we can help you with your transportation needs just let us know. This is our 8th annual sale and once again we will have a Lowline Breeders Seminar on Friday afternoon which is always educational and entertaining. This year we have Dean Pike, the Director of Breeders Services coming to do his Power Point presentation on “Marketing Your Own Lowline Beef” and, back by popular demand, are “The Effertz Girls’” presentation on preparing Lowline beef. We know you will enjoy that one especially when you get to taste the result of their work. Plan to stay for supper. For those of you familiar with the Embassy Suites during the National Western, Jan has Maria’s recipe for Sangria and will mix up a batch. 2014 National Western Stock Show Champion Pen of Commercial Heifers, halfblood Lowline heifers sired by Little Joe and exhibited by Chain Ranch, Canton, Okla. Once again thanks for your interest. Please come to the ranch and don’t hesitate to ask us if we can help in any way. All the best, Neil and Jan Effertz and Family

Her Boxcar bull calf pretty spectacular. She has produced a top heifer calf that is in the Rich Marziale herd in Arizona. Her dam was manytimes Grand Champion Female at many of the early Lowline shows and was the biggest female in her calf crop. Powerful, deep bodied and loaded with desirable carcass DNA markers is the best way to describe Olivia.

EZ Livvy is another strong-made, easy-fleshing daughter of the great Olivia 15G cow that produced so many great females for Adam Tveeten in Colorado that went on to have a great influence in the Bonanza herd in Washington state. She has produced a heifer in the Lee Lewis herd in Maryland and one that sold to the Dave Ditmer herd in Ohio. She is another cow that has a tremendous amount of earning potential as a donor cow and is a paternal sister to Maggie 33P and Lady Luck 51N. As my friend in Canada says, “There’s ‘Power in the Blood!’” Not one that would be normally ever offered for sale. She is due to Prince 6/29/14. Our vet says probably a heifer calf.

Here’s a great-looking and top-producing Lisbon daughter out of the terrific show heifer Scarlett 018K. She raised one of out top herd bulls last year, now in the Ed and Carlena Quinn herd in Montana. Her dam was a beautiful, well-balanced show heifer with a world of beefiness to her composition. Deep, soft and powerful yet in a very feminine way – a rare quality in some well-muscled cattle. She should have a powerful Jackaroo calf. Remember that a Jackaroo son topped the Lowline Supreme Sale for $30,500 last December! She could have a great one – bull or heifer! She was AI bred to Jackaroo on 4/30/14.

He has been a standout bull calf from the start and has continued to grow like we thought he would on a high-roughage ration. He should sire a real impressive set of calves with built-in calving ease from both sides of his pedigree with exceptional carcass quality and tenderness from his sire’s side.

Angus Black Jack has that added dimension that you find in these good 3/4 blood bulls. He’s beefy and good haired. His little sister sells as Lot 55. Terms: Terms of the sale are cash or check payable immediately upon conclusion of the sale and before animals will be moved. Seller will reserve the right to require a certified check as settlement before releasing any cattle.

Insurance of Purchases and Risk: All animals are the seller’s risk prior to their sale and become property of the buyer as soon as declared sold by the auctioneer. Arrangements will be made to have insurance available when making settlement. Cattle left at Effertz EZ Ranch after the sale must be insured by the purchaser. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. In case the animal in question should develop to be a problem breeder due to negligence or improper management by the buyer or if the female has been subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques, the seller’s guarantee does not apply. No guarantee is given that bred females will deliver a live calf. No guarantee is given that a female will produce eggs suitable for transplant. All bulls are semen tested.
