Powder River Bulls Born & Raised Where Corn Don’t Grow!! Angus Spotted Horse, Wyoming
Welcome, This year will be our 20th year in the registered cattle business and reflecting back we have seen a lot of things come and go within our breed. The one thing that remains the same is the demand for good Angus cattle based on their do-ability, longevity, fertility, mothering ability and good carcass merit. The Angus business has treated us well and we look forward to raising great-quality cattle for many more years to come. Raising cattle is in our blood. It is who we are and what we do! My Great Great Grandfather Sorenson homesteaded near the confluence of Clear Creek and Powder River in 1884. My family has been raising cattle in Northeast Wyoming ever since. Amanda’s family homesteaded in the Southeast corner of Wyoming in 1878 and is still raising cattle there. As you can see we are not the first generation to raise cattle in Wyoming, we have 10 generations combined. The cattle represented here are acclimated to this country and if they can thrive here we feel confident they will excel anywhere they go. The bulls are being developed at Rule’s feedlot in Buffalo, Wyoming where they receive a ration of ground hay, silage and corn. Travis Rule and his crew have done an excellent job growing these bulls out. If you are looking for cattle that perform on native pasture we have them in spades! There is a large selection of heifer bulls, many half brothers, as well as many performance bulls that will leave you with a set of calves that will mash down the scales! Since the beginning we have concentrated on producing very good-footed cattle and we vigorously select for good udders, as well as optimum milk production. If you keep replacement heifers you’ll get cows that are moderate sized, good-natured, superior footed, calve easy, wean a big calf and breed back on time. If you retain ownership of your calves, rest assured that our bulls will produce results. We have fed out steers and heifers over the years and sold them on the grid. They did not disappoint us and graded 98% choice and above. After looking over this offering we hope you are able to find the kind of bulls that will suit your needs. If you have any questions please give us a call. The bulls can be viewed at Rule’s feedlot anytime prior to the sale and we invite you to stop in and take a look.
We hope to see you sale day,
Friends and Neighbors, It’s sale time already! The year 2013 went by so fast. In Northern Campbell County it was a great year to be in the cattle business. We had wonderful spring moisture with timely rains all through the summer. We weaned heavy calves and were able to sell steers at a record price. We are currently blessed with a cattle market that is paying us well for all of our hard work. We have very high expectations for our cows. We want them to wean big calves while maintaining good flesh. We expect them to winter out on minimal hay and supplement and breed back on time. We also have a zero tolerance policy on udder quality and mothering ability. We bought our registered herd in 2008 and have been culling hard on them to improve these traits. Now, in the spring of 2014, after six years of culling and very selective mating decisions, we are about to calve the best set of two-year-old heifers we have ever raised. As our females improve, so do the bulls that they produce and this year’s bull calves especially reflect that progress. We cull on our bull crop heavily in an effort to offer the very best that we can to both the commercial cattle producer and the seed stock producers. Our bulls were once again developed at the Rule Feedlot. A big thanks to Travis, Dan, Mike, Logan and all the rest of the guys for taking such great care of them. We hope that you have received enough information to help you select a bull that will fit your needs. We would love to meet you at the feedlot anytime prior to the sale to walk through the bulls and answer any questions that you might have. Watch our website, www.raftertangus.com, for carcass ultrasound information. Thanks to our many neighbors and friends for all of the help and encouragement throughout the year. Thank you especially to Neal and Amanda for allowing us the opportunity to market our bulls with them - this whole process is a lot more fun when you can include your kids and good friends. Thanks for the consideration, Kale, Kim, Galen and Zane Kretschman 307-736-2415 or 307-299-4569
