Triple H Simmentals would like to invite you to the 2025 Dakota Power 21st Annual Production Sale. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to our present, past and future customers for all your continued support throughout the years! We appreciate you.
Also, a special thank you to our kids and their friends that come out after work or weekends to help us work cattle from calving, working pairs, branding, clipping bulls and picture day to video’s. Thanks again we couldn’t do it without Teylor, Landon, Alli, Zach Zoie, Hope, Tyson, Cord, Blake, Alissa, April and our wives every day.
Again, this year we will be holding the sale at our farm ½ mile East of Hannaford. The bulls and females will be penned there for your viewing, and we will head into Hannaford at 1:00 pm to The Mercantile to hold the video auction. The cattle will be available for viewing Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 6 pm and Monday morning until sale time. We will have a complimentary beef dinner at 11:30 until sale time at 1:00.
As always, we offer free keep until after semen testing has been completed in April. We offer free delivery within a 300-mile radius and will work with you in the event the bulls have further to go. You will be able to view all bull online on our websites or on DV Auction. We also invite you to our place and evaluate prior to the sale, visitors are always welcome.
Every year we expect to offer you a set of bull’s superior to those before through AI, Embryo Transfer and Genomic Testing. This set of bulls will have what you are looking for. Look through the offering, find what you like and give any of us a call to discuss your needs. We are always happy to lend a hand in finding the right bull and genetics to fit your operation. We continually hear past customers say our bulls hold up well during and after breeding season. We strive to produce functional cattle which work in our herd and, more importantly, in yours!
The bred females that we are offering are from the heart of our replacement pen. Our cattle are selected for strong maternal traits, udder quality, fertility, fleshing ability, docility, correct structure and performance that are bred into them with predictability. The heifers have had both rounds of Scour Bos and two rounds of Vira Shield 6 VL5 HB along with all calf hood vaccinations. We feel these females will go on to make great cows.
We are very excited about this 2025 offering. On Monday February 10th, we will bring another great group of bulls to offer you a superior set of genetics.
THE HANSON FAMILY
Triple H Simmentals
We utilized Palisades for his performance, length of spine, great muscle expression, and attractive phenotype. When you look at these sons you will see just that. Look for these bulls to sire steers that flat out grow and produce phenomenal females as the heifers out of Palisades are very impressive!
DJF PALISADES J170
PALISADES SONS
PALISADES M4323
G69
Kong needs no introduction as he’s sired some of our top bulls and females the last few years because of his ability to stamp his calves with a deep soggy look with a lot of upper rib shape while still maintaining a reasonable frame. These will be the last sons available as Kong is deceased and there is no longer semen available.
POSS RAWHIDE
SIRE
Rawhide was used once again to make the highly sought after high
NAVIGATOR M4329
Captivate
These two sire groups come from a couple embryo packages we purchased hoping for some great females out of the Red Jewel cow, but we got three bulls instead. Which turned out not to be such a bad thing as these calves have great muscle expression, deep bodied, and very sound moving. Look for these bulls to sire great females or steers that weigh up and look good doing it!
Discovery was our $19,500 pick at Quandt’s 2023 sale along with our good friends and customers the Martin’s. We purchased Discovery for his added performance along with his frame and large foot and bone structure. His first bull calves are big rugged, thick, and sound. Look for these boys to add pay weight to your calf crop!
THSR FAVOR M4029
LCDR FAVOR 149F
SIRE OF LOT47
THSR HUSTLER M4083
Hustler was a herd sire prospect that we purchased at Rydeen farms from the first calf crop of the exciting Impact bull that Paul and Lois had purchased a couple years prior. If you want to add power and performance with that added length of body these are the bulls, you will be looking for.
JESSE JAMES SONS
KRJ JESSE JAMES
SIRE
Jessie James was used on some angus cows to add frame and performance and he did just that. These 1/2 blood sons are bigger framed and deep bodied, with a really nice look to them!
Zumbro was a sire that we admired because of his performance pedigree and cow making ability with Grand Slam on the top side of the pedigree and Justice on the bottom. Grand Slam was the $47500 bull from Spring Creek Simmentals in Canada that we owned with Bata’s, his daughters have been some of our best cows and the bulls have been sought after for their power and performance.

UNDERSTANDING EPDS A GUIDE TO
EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES (EPD): EPD are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPD, the difference between two sires’ EPD represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPD of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPD is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPD, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPD rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPD and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPD are expressed in:
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX (API):
Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
BACK FAT (BF):
Inches of backfat.
BIRTH WEIGHT (BW):
Pounds of birth weight.
CALVING EASE (CE):
Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
CARCASS WEIGHT (CW):
Pounds of carcassweight.
MATERNAL CALVING EASE (MCE):
Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
MILK (MLK):
Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
MARBLING (MARB):
Marbling score.
MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT (MWW):
Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
RIBEYE AREA (REA):
Square inches of ribeye.
WARNER-BRATZLER SHEAR FORCE (SF):
Pounds of force required to shear a steak.
STAYABILITY (STAY):
Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
TERMINAL INDEX (TI):
Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
WEANING WEIGHT (WW):
Pounds of weaning weight.
YEARLING WEIGHT (YW):
Pounds of yearling weight.
YIELD GRADE (YG):
Yield grade score.
$ INDEXES: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPD and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPD, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile
