Welcome to the 2025 Eco Angus Bull Sale
Dear Friends,
We are excited to welcome you to our first annual bull sale, hosted at Sugar Valley Stockyards in Gering, Nebraska. This year marks another significant milestone in the journey of Eco Angus, and we are thrilled to share with you the outstanding lineup of bulls that we have carefully bred and prepared for your consideration.
Our journey began over four decades ago in northeast Wisconsin, where Marc Braun’s breeding philosophy prioritized the breeding of maternal and reproductive traits alongside carcass quality, the signature traits of cattle raised in the Upper Midwest. A significant turning point came when Kevin Verheyen joined forces with the program, bringing a shared vision and a focus on the Lady cow family as the cornerstone of our registered Angus business. This collaboration helped propel the momentum needed to expand westward. In 2017, the program took a transformative step by leasing Muddy Creek Ranch in Lisco, Nebraska, and the Randy Doorman Family Ranch in Oshkosh, Nebraska. In the summer of 2018, Shea Esser joined the team to manage the ranches in Nebraska, bringing with him a discerning eye for cattle that has helped shape our herd into what it is today.Rooted in respect for nature’s principles and inspired by the resilience embodied in Darwinism, Eco Angus embraced the challenges of Nebraska’s diverse and expansive landscapes. This approach, combined with our team’s dedication and continued emphasis on carcass quality, has helped naturally and scientifically select the high-performing, durable bulls you will see in the sale ring on February 22nd.
This year’s offering includes 61 bulls, each representing the culmination of generations of focused breeding. We strive to carefully balance calving ease, feet and udder quality, growth and performance, and carcass merit. Whether you are building a cow herd focused on female quality and longevity, raising pounds of beef to sell as feeder calves, or finishing your calves to sell fat cattle on a grid; we are confident that these bulls will provide the genetic tools you need to move your operation forward. At Eco Angus, our mission is to support cattle producers who share our commitment to profitability and sustainability. Our program has always been rooted in providing practical solutions that reduce input costs and enhance herd performance. We want to empower producers like you to succeed in an ever-evolving industry.
In addition to showcasing this set of bulls, we look forward to hosting you for a day of camaraderie and networking. Lunch will be served, and our team will be on hand throughout the day to answer any questions and assist with your needs.
Thank you for joining us for this inaugural event. We value your trust and interest in our program, and we look forward to the opportunity to partner with you in achieving your goals. If you have any questions before the sale, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Marc Braun and Shea Esser

BREEDING PHILOSOPHY
1. GENOMICS
Our entire cow herd and calf crop have been DNA tested in two of the largest cattle databases:
• HD50K at American Angus
• Zoetis and Leachman $Profit Indexes
The returned data enables informed mating decisions – focusing on improved quality and sustainability within our herd. Our team tailors our management strategies to ensure that our cattle perform optimally in various environments.
2. PHENOTYPIC EVALUATIONS
Structural Integrity
Our bulls travel alongside their mothers through rugged terrain, which is a true test of their structural integrity. We do not trim feet—cattle that cannot thrive in this environment due to poor foot structure are culled. Calves are never creep fed—we value seeing what each cow can achieve with the natural nutrients provided by the land. Bulls are also slowly developed on highroughage diets to ensure longevity for our customers.
Fertility, Longevity, and Maternal Characteristics
By using a rigid phenotypic culling criteria on our cows, we create cows and bulls that are balanced in performance and phenotypes. Cows are annually scored for feet and udder quality, along with disposition. Records are kept on spring and fall weights and body condition scores. Visual appraisal is still how we market cattle – we pride ourselves in cows that balance production and phenotype.
Carcass Traits and Performance on the Grid
Eco Angus is committed to using industry-leading technology and data generated from all phases of beef production. We maintain genomic-enhanced EPDs on all animals, including the cowherd and sale cattle, for maximum predictability of genetic merit. Eco Angus builds cattle that will work in grazing environments yet still produces cattle that top the current grids. Since 2020 we have collected Angus-sired ID carcass data on over 26,000 individual carcasses. Analysis of this data allows our team to evaluate the profitability of Angus genetics by sire. Whether it is carcass, feed intake, ultrasound carcass, udder, feet, or mature weight data – Eco Angus is committed to generating the data to create maximum informed EPDs to find the right genetics for the next generation.
3. DARWINISM
We believe that Darwinism is one of the most valuable management tools in our program. In this context, Darwinism refers to the natural selection process where only the most resilient cattle, capable of thriving in the rugged and unforgiving terrain of western Nebraska, are chosen to pass on their genetics. Genomics allow us to identify cattle with performance potential. Phenotypic evaluation by our experienced team helps us pinpoint cattle that are easy-doing, resilient, and eye-appealing. Finally, Darwinism puts these cattle to the test, and aids in selecting the best-performing females to build the next generation.
OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU
At Eco Angus, we take immense pride in the relationships we’ve built with our customers. Your success is our success, and we are dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. We deeply appreciate the trust you’ve placed in us by choosing our genetics. We will work with you along the way for your breeding needs. Our team is here to support you in every step of building a productive, profitable herd.

We rarely sell yearlings, M029 makes the list of exceptions for obvious reasons. This bull has been a phenotypic stand out since day one. His balanced design paired with his actual performance make him one of the most exciting bulls we have offered to date. He summered with his mother at the donor facility and weaned at 1,081lbs off the trailer the day he came home. He boasts an Actual Yearling Wt of 1,310 on the same high roughage ration the rest of these two year olds are on. Whether you are looking to add pounds or make good looking functional cattle - be sure not to overlook lot 3!
