As I sit down to write this letter, I find myself reflecting on the past year—how much has changed and how far we’ve come. Our summer, our kids, our crops, and our cattle are all remarkably different from just a year ago. It feels like life is moving at light speed, but within that fast pace lies an exciting future. With record-high cattle prices continuing to hold strong, from feeders to culls, it truly is—and always will be—a great time to be in the cattle business.
It’s with great pride and gratitude that we present what we believe to be an exceptional offering of cattle for your appraisal. First and foremost, we want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all our customers and friends. Without the calls, connections, and relationships built over the years—or the new ones yet to come—none of this would be possible. Your support drives us forward, inspiring us to continually improve our cattle and our operation.
This year’s cattle are no exception. Each one has been carefully evaluated to ensure they will stand the test of time and produce for years to come. Among the offering, you’ll find full and maternal siblings—both bulls and heifers—reflecting years of thoughtful breeding and selection. Sorting the bred heifers was no easy task; we’re committed to offering you our best, even as we recognize the potential impact some of these could have made within our own operation.
This is one of the largest, deepest, and most impressive sets we’ve put together to date. Many of the bred heifers have the pedigree to move straight into a donor pen, supported by generations of proven genetics. The bulls, both Angus and Simmental, represent what we believe is our strongest lineup yet, with multiple full and half siblings from our top donors. No matter your needs, there’s something in this offering that will elevate your herd.
The cattle market continues its upward trend, with feeder calves, cull cows, and bulls selling at all-time highs. As cow herd numbers dwindle, now is the perfect time to invest in the next generation of genetics to enhance and expand your herd. Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible support system we have around the farm. Craig Schaufler has been with us for two years now, and his help has been a tremendous blessing. Ralph, who manages day-to-day operations at my uncle’s, consistently goes above and beyond, lending a hand even when he isn’t asked. To our family and friends who step up when the days get long, your contributions never go unnoticed. And to my wife, Shelby—your unwavering dedication and behind-thescenes work keep this entire operation running smoothly, even when it’s like pulling teeth or I lose track of what needs to be done.
We warmly invite you to visit our farm on Thursday, February 6th, or stop by anytime to view this exceptional offering. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you!

The Kaehler family name has been tied to production agriculture for well over a century. The multi-generational agricultural entity comes with a reputation nationwide for a product that is unrivaled. There would be several family members involved in the operation who are instrumental in making the outfit continue in its evolution. Seth and Shelby are a great young couple who share a great eye for livestock and a passion for the seed stock sector of the industry. They have the desire to be the best and work diligently to applicate improved ideas and technology to make a product suitable for all aspects of the industry.
The cattle make big strides annually in quality and in the genomic and recorded data. The pressure becomes applied within any operation that is willing to haul their livelihood for healthy competition to “The Yards” for the annual pen show at the National Western Stock Show. Some breeders do not value the showing aspect of the business, but that is possibly because they do not have the skill set or know people with the skill set to get the stock presented in the manner that they must, to be able to compete. Or it simply may be that they aren’t willing to see where they truly stack up and are afraid of comparison. Seth, for as long as we have known him, doesn’t back down from a competitive event. We believe it’s what drives him and that is the reason the product continues to improve from all aspects involved in the art of breeding livestock.
We challenge you to name anyone more open minded in the industry when it comes to researching ways to make an end product more valuable and easier to market than Seth Kaehler. His frame of mind is similar to a blue or red heeler pup as he shows no fear in pushing the envelope. He has a resilient understanding that success doesn’t come easy, and to get to the top, one may experience getting knocked down first and then again before one achieves the summit.
The 2025 offering is certainly slated to be the best yet! It will feature a variety of different matings by several of the elite SimGenetic A.I. sires in the business introduced to the very youthful and potent female base of the KLER brand. One of the more noteworthy genetic combinations would be the featured brother to the very popular Angus stud, KLER Formula 1, an Angus sire that is in the top 1% of the breed for marbling and ranks in the top 1% for five profit indexes in the Angus data base. As an added caveat, a 50% embryo interest in the donor dam of Formula 1, Riverbend Queenie C353 sells as well! These cattle are of absolute intrigue and worthy of your search time and visual analysis. A prime example of the continuation to forge this program into a “go-to” for all of one’s seed stock needs that keep the commercial segment of the industry in every forethought.
Please consider this your invitation to join us at the farm on February 6, 2025. Make note of the new and earlier date and mark those calendars to make the trip to southeast Minnesota for a very elite and genuine offering of SimGenetic and Angus bull and female power. If you should need any assistance or guidance with your purchases or need additional information about the offering, please reach out to any of the Innovation Ag Marketing team as well. We will see you at the sale!

This year, we are honored to donate half of the proceeds from KLER Lady 3055L to St. Matthews Community Lutheran Preschool. St. Matthews is a cornerstone in our small community, providing a nurturing Christian environment where children learn the values of friendship, trust, and respect while discovering their worth in God’s eyes and developing a love for learning. Our son Creed has already benefited from the enriching experience at St. Matthews, and we are excited for Colt to join next year and Haven to follow. The proceeds from this donation will help fund STEM equipment, transportation repairs, and facility upgrades—important resources that are typically supported by fundraising within our community. Supporting this lot is not only a way to enhance your operation but also an opportunity to make a lasting impact on our children’s future and our community.
This year, we are proud to offer another exceptional set of commercial females from two outstanding customers, Tate Pearson and Luke Laufenberg. These heifers represent the top cut from their replacement pens, showcasing the very best of their programs.
Sired by KLER bulls, these females are built to thrive in any operation, developing into phenomenal, long-lasting cows that will produce high-performing calves sure to command top dollar in your local market.
They will be sized, sorted, and presented with weight averages for each group. All heifers will be Bangs vaccinated and ready to join your herd. They will be sold in groups of five, with the winning bidder having the option to roll down and take multiple groups in order if desired.
All are guaranteed open and breedable. If the new owner wants to AI these, we will supply 1 unit on any of our Calving Ease sires.

“The bulls and feeder cattle from KLER Cattle are high-performing, good-looking, and healthy. They’re well taken care of, and I’ve always felt like I’m getting top-tier animals. You really have to like them in both the pasture and the feedlot. Seth and the crew are always responsive when I have questions or concerns, and they take care of any issues that come up without hesitation.
The folks at KLER Cattle are easy to work with. Good cattle and good people.”
“We have known Ralph and Seth for a handful of years and have purchased multiple bulls and heifers from them. We are consistently impressed with the quality of their livestock. We bought our first bull 3 years ago; we used him on a couple of cows to assess him. They were great-growing calves, so we put him on a whole pasture in 2023. They were born in February/March of 2024; most were Simmental-Angus crosses. By early September, after being weaned off the cow, they averaged an impressive 651 pounds. We loved how that bull performed so much that we purchased another bull on their 2024 sale! Our farm’s mission is to raise a healthy growing calf that will go on to succeed in the feedlot and marble well for a finished protein in the next phase of its life. We can do that through the bulls and genetics we use from K-LER Cattle.”

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15- unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in:
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX (API):
Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario.
AVERAGE DAILY GAIN (ADG):
Pounds of post weaning daily weight gain.
BACK FAT (BF): Inches of backfat.
BIRTH WEIGHT (BW): Pounds of birth weight.
CALVING EASE (CE):
Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
CARCASS WEIGHT (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.
DOCILITY (DOC):
Percent of offspring achieving a docile (1) score.
MATERNAL CALVING EASE (MCE):
Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
MILK (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
MARBLING (MRB): Marbling score.
MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT (MWW):
Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
RIBEYE AREA (REA): Square inches of ribeye.
WARNER-BRATZLER SHEAR FORCE (WBSF):
Pounds of force required to shear a steak.
STAYABILITY (STAY):
Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
TERMINAL INDEX (TI):
Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario.
WEANING WEIGHT (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
YEARLING WEIGHT (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
YIELD GRADE (YG): Yield grade score.
$ INDEXES: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX (API):
Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
TERMINAL INDEX (TI):
Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
USING API AND TI:
First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an allpurpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000).
A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the population.
For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Important disclaimer: DO NOT compare index values of purebreds of different breeds, hybrids of different breed composition or purebreds with hybrids — our system was not developed to make valid comparison among these groups. Therefore, you must first determine the breed and breed composition appropriate for your herd and use index values to compare animals within that population.
