Boys from the South Gelbvieh and Balancer Bull Sale
Hosted by Green Hills Gelbvieh and Butler Creek Farms
November 30, 2024
Saturday • 1:00 pm cst
James E Ward Ag Center, Lebanon, TN
The boys are back! We would like to welcome each and every one of you to our 8th Annual “Boys from the South” bull sale. We here at Butler Creek along with the Green Hills crew have tried to put together the top end of our bull crop to satisfy you as the producer. Our goal has always been to produce superior seedstock that can excel for both the commercial and registered cattlemen alike. I always like to tell people you are getting the best of the best of what we have to offer. These bulls have made it through two different culls. One at weaning and another at 60-90 days post weaning. We do that to ensure growth and soundness for you as the buyer. These cattle have not been “pampered.” We hand feed around 1-1.5% body weight. As dad would say “don’t burn them up.” We feel like testicles and feet have better longevity feeding at a lower rate, along with getting more honest weaning and yearling weights. There are several bulls in this offering that are hard to let go, but we learned a long time ago if you want to make a living in this industry you have to sell your best and this is what we have done here.
We would like to thank the Teeter family for their help in putting this sale together. It could not be done without them. After talking about having a bull sale for several years, we are happy to continue this tradition with them.
Finally, I would like to thank you as the buyers and bidders. Without a strong customer base this sale would not be possible. We enjoy working with new and old customers alike. We stand behind our bulls and we stand behind our customers. Bulls were vaccinated at birth with Inforce 3 and Bovine Ecolizer + C20; at weaning all bulls received Bovi-Shield Gold FPVL5 HB, Vision 7 Somnus, Safeguard dewormer and then at BSE time were given another round of shots the same way and poured with Dectomax. Bulls passed BSE, tested negative for trich, and negative for BVD PI. If there is anything we can help you with feel free to look us up sale weekend or give us a call. We look forward to seeing you November 30th in Lebanon!
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 8th Annual Boys from the South sale. It is our privilege to be working with the Butler family again to bring you this sale offering. Our programs both believe that sound structure and phenotype are the key to productive cattle with longevity that will help add dollars to your program.
We have been breeding Gelbvieh cattle since 1986 and have always believed that cattle must work in the real world. Our bulls are developed on pasture supplemented by high roughage feed so that they do not fall apart when they get turned out on pasture. We are a family operation and our sons are actively involved in our program which means our program of 35 plus years should be here for years to come. We have built our program on repeat customers by supplying sound cattle.
We appreciate the past buyers and hope to make new friends with our new customers. We appreciate your interest in the sale offering and look forward to helping you find animals that will help make your program more profitable. The Green Hills bulls have been vaccinated using 2 rounds of ViraShield 6VL5 HB and Vision 20/20 with spur and one round of Bovi-Shield Gold One Shot. They have all passed a breeding soundness exam and all bulls are tested BVD PI negative. To ensure that we only offer you our best, these bulls have survived 3 rounds of culling: at weaning, at yearling weights, and at picturing and filming.
Sincerely,
Walter, Lee, Garrett, Justin, & Austin Teeter

Sire of lots 14 & 15. These next two bulls prove that the Riptide herd sire is here to stay and he is legit! Big time seedstock herd sires and backed by true cow power.
Here is the last natural calf of our cornerstone donor, Whitney. She raised this guy at 15 through a dry summer to an impressive 786 lbs. WW. I could write a book about how good we think this guy is and all the good he brings to the table, but the catalog would get pretty expensive with the pages it would take. Simply put, this guy has what it takes to change the direction of a program in a big way and do it fast. Biggest legged, biggest footed, widest built one to be raised on the place and does so with added size, length of body with a bold round rib cage and near perfect hip and hind leg with more than ample depth. If you want a high percentage bull that is homo black, homo polled and can leave a lasting impression or take you to the next level then come November 30th with plans to make this one’s address the same as yours. Top 10% for WW, MARB; top 15% for YW. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced or Terminal.

I’d love to discuss because this might be the best and most complete individual ever to come out of the Green Hills program. Stacked EPDs, the right build, awesome running gear, good footed, and as massive and robust as you can build them and would stay fleshy on air and water. Boy I don’t know that we’ve ever stacked three as good as these three back-to-back in the catalog. Awesome built, slick haired bull with style and look to burn, that has the soft easy feeding look to make females that will flat out work but still come with the right kind of power to sire high selling bulls and steers. One of Cow Town’s best sons to date and backed by an awesome, hard-working Angus cow who has some of the best maternal legends Renown, 004, and Saugahatchee behind her. Moderate, power packed, slick haired, soft bodied one that can add length, maternal strength, and foot and udder quality to any operation. Great choice of a red one to add size, length, and pounds without giving up anything on the daughters. Top 25% for CED. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced.
Cowman’s type bull here that’s slick haired, big backed, really stout hipped and homo black, homo polled who is also extremely soft centered, easy feeding, and comes with added foot and bone. One of our favorite yearlings that not only is impressive as an individual but doesn’t lack on paper. We want to be up front that this guy is by no means one we feel is an attitude issue but at same time he won’t be the one that comes up to get rubbed in the pen either.
Arguably our favorite red bull in the sale and darn sure one we’d put money on to be a female making deluxe. With that said he’s not just a big bodied, good structured one that is average muscled, this one comes with that good looking, female maker look but does it with extra power and foot under him and should be as calving ease as any. Good bull here that can cover all groups and turn back a set of females that will be all the talk at the feed store. Cow Town back on Encore’s mom, no way to go wrong here! Qualifies TAEP-Balanced

LAZY TV FREIGHTER T183 KVLK Z205 KVLK T107 ET
Second of the past high seller War Eagle sired calves here and basically same song different verse as lot 35. Big, stout, rugged with a shot of extra size and punch. Higher percentage option with the bigger framed, high-performance bulls and backed by a hard working “Z” model cow who came to us out of the Volek program out in SD. While his dam may be getting a little age on her, she’s yet to let up in production and always catches AI and still has the look of a 5-year-old. If I was a betting man, this guy not only will add pounds but make a set of long lasting, highly productive, fertile daughters to boot.
Growthy, long bodied, really expressive muscled homo polled red bull from the Kali cow family who should add muscle shape, length, and rapid growth in a super calving ease fashion. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced.
•Retaining ½ semen interest Hold the phone on this one boys because he will have a lot of people talking on November 30th! High quality, ultra good structured, powerhouse that has added body, foot quality, right kind of muscle, and a herd bull look. Out of a young sire that Lazy TV bought a few years back who happens to be a half-brother to Cody Clary’s many time champion female, GHGF Two Step. Backed by the Julia cow family for maternal strength and one of our favorite cows. Big fan and I think most will agree when they see him for themself. This cow’s last bull was Eagle Pass Ranch’s pick of the bull sale the fall before they dispersed.

The Julia cow family strikes again. If you get to looking there are four bulls out of the 378 (1110X) cow line in this year’s sale and that is only because they were the only four to be born. The rest of the cow family had heifers who stand at the front of the replacement pen. This may be as strong of a cow line as there is on the place: awesome footed, perfect uddered, easy keeping, low maintenance, slick haired, no miss kind that flat out work year in and year out no matter the sires we use on them. So, add that kind of maternal backing and cow power with the growth, size, and muscle of Encore and well, we think it was a hone run. Good bull here that will be very versatile and fit a lot of operations no matter your needs. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced.
Here’s the big burly, extra rugged 378 option in the sale and man does he come with the extra punch and hip shape to flat power up a set of cows! But yet still offers the body and structure to allow him to inject his cow family’s hard-working females right back into the heart of the herd. Top 10% for WW, YW, TMAT, CREA. Qualifies TAEP-Terminal.

Calving ease and maternal driven out of the cow family that won’t hurt you in the growth and pounds department. Raised by an awesome 2-year-old Cow Town daughter out of the 378 cow family that is quite honestly our favorite 2 year old of the group and sired by a Musgrave Stunner son we retained who will continue to see heavy use at our place. Udder quality of this guy’s daughters and fleshing ability and fast growth of his calves should be spot on. Top 4% CED; 15% BW, Milk; 20% TM, FPI. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced or Terminal.
Real world, working man’s kind of beef bull here. The right size, slick haired, would make it off nothing and does so with a big top, stout hip and offers tons of depth and shape of rib on some added foot and bone. The Cracker Jack cattle are flat going to work and will be those long-lasting, low input kind and the added shot of longevity, calving ease and maternal from Blue’s Impact and the 27 cow family on the bottom side sure can’t hurt. Maternal brother to the $20,000 past high seller War Eagle. Top 15% for Milk. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced.
Lot 46 GHGF L331
Bigger framed, longer bodied bull here with added substance at the ground and fast growth. This guy’s Sandhills dam is near picture perfect, always raising one at the top of the group and does it without dropping condition. Growth, size, pounds at weaning and slick haired, flawless uddered daughters are what I’d expect from him. Top 20% WW; 25% CREA. Qualifies TAEP-Terminal.
Not to repeat myself as I’ve said it on a few earlier in the catalog but this guy is just darn good and dang hard to poke a hole in. EPD strength, body, power and easy keeping dense build with awesome feet and structure best sums him up. Backed by our favorite daughter of our 310T donor making him from the same cow family that produced Cracker Jack. If you can’t tell I like this one. Let’s just say this guy would get my vote to the top of the list on November 30th Top 10% YW, TM, CREA; 15% WW, Milk, FPI; 25% CED. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced or Terminal.

Very complete solid Cow Town son here that comes in a higher percentage package and does it with plenty of power, muscle, body, and bone. The 60C2 cow is one of, if not Garrett’s strongest cow who just flat doesn’t miss and will settle AI I think if you just wave a straw of semen in the vicinity of her. We are big on cow power and cows that work for a living and this guy combines some of our best. Hard working, good sized, long bodied, fast growing, slick haired, good uddered genetics never go out of style and will always add to the bottom dollar. Lot 46
As neat a looking bull as will sell on November 30th. This guy is as cool looking and square built as you can make one but still does it with plenty of substance and body and near perfect structure. Once again, this one is backed by a cow that will do it year in and year out raising one of our favorites, just to this point they have all been females and highlights in the replacement pen. True cow power behind this guy both on top and bottom. Another one that has made it past 3 rounds of culling on performance, attitude and phenotype but would prefer his space over being a pet. Rest assured if we thought he was an issue and didn’t trust that mom or our grandparents could go in the pen and work him then he would have already found a new home a long time ago.
The one that I personally hate to not be keeping as much as any and that says a lot because we are very much a black focused herd! Awesome bull here and as good of a red bull as we have made since Man O’ War, this one comes in an even higher percentage package. Perfect sized, huge bodied, rugged, powerfully built dude here that has the look and build of a truly elite breeding bull! For all the cool things this guy does in the flesh, his genetic backing might just be the neatest part about him. With the combo of the 298Z donor, Annisa 921U, Velvet Moon and then the added shot of maternal power from Blue’s Impact, this guy should leave a long-lasting impact wherever he goes to work. This guy’s dam is one that will out produce herself 10 to 1 year end and year out and is on a fast track to finding her way to the donor pen. Great cows and cow families are the base to every great bull and program. Top 25% CED. Qualifies TAEP-Balanced. Lot 49
The Riptide sons just don’t miss and this guy is no exception. Still not real sure how we missed getting a picture on this guy picture day but rest assured it is not because he is a slouch or bottom end kind of bull. Just like his brothers earlier in the book this guy is wide built, opened up in his center and comes with added pounds, length of body, and fleshing ability all in a slick haired, good footed, sound package and backed by a hardworking, very solid female. High growth award goes here! Big time actual performance and big time ruggedness and power. All without sacrificing body and structural integrity or foot size and shape. Hard working heavy milking cow behind this guy who can get it done all while not dropping back on flesh. If you need a shot higher percentage, pounds, size, and milk added to a set of cows I’d be all in here. Really good beef bull that should have had a picture, too.

Just because we lost our minds and somehow forgot this bull at first run of the catalog so he ends up as the last lot don’t hold it against him. Here is maybe as unique of one as there will be offered. The first calf out of Cody Clary’s Congress Champion female who was the talk of the town that fall everywhere she went. First calf of hers to be offered for sale and by who other than the National Champion and high seller, Man O’ War. This mating is one we have very impatiently waited to get on the ground and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. L200 easily got all the good from both parents and we’ve yet to find the bad! So good looking, plenty of muscle, rugged in his build, his daddy’s huge feet and legs and that big soft body that made everyone gravitate to both mom and dad. The best part is, he does this with a slick haired high performing, real world, fescue tolerant look and the ability to not only sire females with a high end look but fast growing rugged bulls that can top bull sales.
