Traxinger Simmental will host their annual sale on February 12th at 1:PM.
Please accept this as your personal invitation to join us that day to talk cattle, BS and just enjoy the gathering of fellow cattlemen. Yes, its bull sale for us, but in our busy world it’s also a time to see old friends and to make new ones.
This year’s offering is similar to other years. Again we’ll offer 50 bulls reds and black, most are homo-polled and blks are all tested for homo black too. Throughout the years we have NEVER increased the number of bulls in our offering, even though we have grown our cow herd. Simple answer—it creates higher quality bulls for your selection.
This year we have tested every bull through the ASA Calf Crop Genomics program with DNA. The GGP-LD genomics test verifies parentage and gives you enhanced EPD’s. What this means is through the DNA they can improve the accuracy on certain traits. According to ASA it’s like having 10 to 25 calves out of that bull already. It has its good points and breeders in general have started to demand that they be DNA.
I’ve said this the last 3 years that we need to cut back and figure out a way to trim the number of cows we run. I’m passionate about our cow herd which is a life time (54 yrs breeding Simmental) in the making. But I also realize my age is preventing me from going hard and doing all the physical work necessary. My family has filled those spaces and have been great. They have sacrificed their time on weekends and holidays to work cattle, well that gets old dad, yes it does. Our thoughts are to sell down on cows this fall by private treaty. So, if interested in our herd, please contact us.

Heterozygous Black - If mated to a non-dilutor red cow ½ the calves will be black and ½ will be red.
Homozygous Polled - All calves will be polled.

Homo-Polled Nondilutor. This red boy doesn’t have any holes. He’s moderate in size but his strong top and hind quarter are big assets. Another great ratioing calf, BW 105, WW 885 to be the 2nd highest WW out of 62 head. First calf heifer with power genetics behind her, WW ratio of 118.
We have been long time buyers at Traxinger Simmental’s annual bull sale. Mike’s goal is never just to sell us a bull, but to add pounds to our calves at the sale barn.He also encouraged us to retain more of our heifers to retain some of the genetics in our female herd from the bulls we bought.
Buying bulls from Traxinger Simmental has resulted in our calves’ weaning weights and rate of gains significantly increasing! We started calving on April 4, 2024 and sold our calves on December 16, 2024. The calves did not have any implants. They were a pot load with an average 226 days, weighing 841 lbs.

We have been buying bulls from the Traxinger Family for approximately 13 years. Every year the calf quality continues to improve. The calves have the frame, length, and gainability, which are very important factors in a commercial herd like ours. We started calving on April 1, 2024 and sold our calves on January 4, 2025. We sold 49 steers and 44 were sold in one group weighing 845 lbs. each. We sold 54 heifers and 45 were sold in one group weighing 771 lbs. each. Uniformity is key in any operation, but it is especially important in ours. What was more gratifying than the market price for the calves was the three order buyers that came up to me after the calves sold and commented how nice the calves were. It is nice to be reassured that the calves we are selling and the genetics we are using are being acknowledged.

His dam, Miss Art E720 is the mother to most of the black ET calves in the sale. Powerhouse himself had an Adj of 901 lbs and YW of 1444 and at that time this was E720 was a first calf heifer. M27 himself looks a lot like Powerhouse. His Black Diamond dam has ratios of BW 101 WW 103 YW 105 and that’s on 8 calves. Power on both sides of the young guy.

Homo-Polled Homo-Black. We bought a Genesis son out of Nate Rubys great Linda cow. He was used as clean-up after AI so didn’t many calves. The few calves we have are good. This is the youngest calf in the sale 4/29/2024, there is a reason we left him as a bull. He’s maturing into a big fellow and his performance is impressive. His WW 869 lbs. with a ratio of 116, he ranked 5th out of 62 in his group. His dam has done her job too with ratios of WW 107, YW 105, that’s how we like them.
