We would like to welcome you to the annual Axtell Cattle Company bull and female sale Times are good in the cattle industry. Calf prices are at record highs and this is a good time to invest in the future of your herd with bulls that will improve your cow herd. This set of bulls is one that we are very proud of. They weaned incredibly well with basically no sickness and took off growing. I feel there are many bulls in the offering that have the quality to be herd sires in registered herds. The quality runs deep on this group of bulls! This group of bulls will be in working condition, they have a little less fat on them compared to last year. With the milder winter this year, we backed off on feed slightly to keep them in good, but not over fat condition.
We feel the quality of the registered heifers is excellent. As a whole, this is a very feminine group of heifers. We’ve included heifers from all of our sire lines including our new sires. We have growthy heifers and more moderate, calving ease type heifers. We wanted to include many varying types so there is one for everyone.
The commercial heifers will be from two customers. One group will be January calves with extra growth. These are the heifers that have topped our sale every year, the other group will be early April born heifers that will be more moderate in frame with excellent quality. Both groups of heifers will be great assets to commercial herds in the area. Be sure to check out videos of all the bulls and heifers online at DVauction.com. Keep in mind that they will have matured another month from the date of the videos.
We invite you to stop by anytime to see the bulls and heifers, our herd sires or cowherd. Just call ahead to set up a time and get directions. The sale offering will be available for viewing at the sale location on the afternoon of March 24th. We look forward to seeing you sale day, but if you are unable to attend and wish to bid just contact us, the sale representatives or pre-register on dvauction.com a couple days prior to the sale. You are able to bid live on DVauction or leave proxy bids on lots you may be interested in. The sale will also be on CattleUSA.com as well.
Please let us know if we can be of any assistance to you in the buying process. We love to talk about cattle and would be glad to visit with you anytime. I will shoot it to you straight on any lots you may have interest in. Our goal is to have the right animals with the right buyers. We have years of experience with these cattle and if we know what you are looking for, we can assist you in getting the correct animals for your environment and management. Also be sure to follow our Facebook page and website for more details. Hope to see you March 25th!

Boss was our $25,000 purchase from the 2022 Duff sale. He brought more frame and growth than anticipated. He ranks very high in the breed for growth traits. He will be an outcross to our herd.
This will be the last natural calf crop from 4124. The last few years he was in multiple sire pastures and always was the dominant bull. He is a great heifer bull and female producer. His dam is one of two cows we’ve flushed. We will use him AI in the future, he brings a lot of goodness to the table.

Due to injury, this is our last calf crop from Widescreen. He is probably more my type of bull than any bull we’ve ever used. When I saw him at Arrowsmith’s I knew we had to own him. He’s done an excellent job and we are happy to have more calves from his son, Axtell Widescreen 2032 next year. We are very high on this blood line!

El Chapo’s maternal numbers do not look great but that is due to being from a lot of Canadian and Black genetics They get hammered in the US system! His dam is one of the very best cows I’ve seen, and the type of calves 2077 has produced lead me to believe that he will have great maternal numbers when all is said and done. I love the Angus type that he throws.
This year we are offering a group of commercial replacement heifers. These heifers are owned and raised by Steve and Matt Kalous from Brush, Colorado and Lucas and Maureen Beek from Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
Each lot of heifers will come into the ring in small groups, sorted by weight and type. The buyer will buy the group in the ring or has the option of taking the whole lot. We would allow a young person to pull one heifer out if they are wanting to find a show heifer.
We believe this is a great group of commercial females that will make their new owners proud. The commercial heifers will START the sale at 1:00 P.M. so be ready for these outstanding females!
LOT A: Steve and Matt Kalous – Brush, CO (970) 768-2451
Steve and Matt are offering 15 head of replacement heifers.
12 head of straight Red Angus and 3 Char x Red Angus
These heifers are born in January and February and are out of a high performance / maternal cattle herd. They will have extra size and weight and will make top cows. They are sired many past sale toppers from our herd. They will be mostly by Flying K Max, Red Knight, Dominator and Redwing sons. The Charolais are sired by Axtell Milestone 1536 (WC Milestone x LT Rushmore) They buy the good ones and it is evident in the quality of their cattle. If you want to tie into top genetics, look at these girls. I would call this group, one of the best sets of cattle to sell in the state this spring. These heifers are weighing in the 850 lb. range, but are moderate framed and backed by generations of similar type. Please call Steve to discuss these heifers. He has documented carcass data on their steer mates that will make your mouth water. Just an outstanding group of heifers! The Char x heifers will sell as a separate group.
LOT B: Beek Family – Cheyenne Wells, CO Lucas (719) 342-1005 or Maureen (719) 342-2969
The Beek family – Lucas and Maureen Beek are offering 15 head of replacement heifers. These heifers are born in April and are from a maternal cattle herd that doesn’t pamper their cattle. These cattle will know how to go out and work for a living. These heifers are all April born heifers and will really pop when they get out on grass. They are sired by Axtell and Kravig Red Angus bulls. They will be a nice set of cattle from a really good family that has a passion for good cattle. The Beek’s also have a beef business, so contact them for that as well. These heifers are weighing in the 675-725 lb. range, are moderate framed and backed by a hard working cow herd. These heifers have been utilizing crop residue and are ready to breed. Please call Lucas or Maureen to discuss these heifers.
Please note that NO DELIVERY will be available on commercial heifers.

3809 just gets better every day. He is loaded with rib shape and muscle in a moderate package. He’s possibly the heaviest muscled bull in the sale. His EPD’s indicate he could be a heifer bull but I would see how he does on the cows the first year. He is in the top 1% for HB and STAY!
Lot 5 is an excellent Dominor son that is very smooth and long. He’s built for calving ease but also has growth numbers to be used on the cows. His dam is one of our top young cows, she is ideal in her type and production. Lot

Here is one of my favorites. He’s a smaller framed bull, but he’s deep, thick and wide. He has a small calving ease head and is very clean made. His dam is always fat with a perfect udder. His grand dam is a donor for Namken Red Angus
If you are looking for a calving ease bull that will keep cow size and inputs under control, he’s a great choice.

We will be bringing the heifers into the ring in groups of two. You will have the option of purchasing one heifer or both, your choice.
The heifers in the offering are right out of the replacement pen including some from the very top. They are not big, fat heifers, but are in good condition to go to work for you. They will grow well once they hit green grass. They are raised right along with our other heifers and should mature into 1,000 lb. bred heifers. We feel that over feeding young heifers is detrimental to their potential milking ability and structure.
We’ve included some of our top growth heifers and some of the more moderate heifers in an attempt to have something for different tastes in cattle. There are quite a few heifers in this offering that I really don’t want to part with, but we only have so many spots.

MPPA:
This heifer is out of a very good cow family. The grand dam is still producing for Shaggy Meadows in South Dakota. There should be good growth in this heifer and good maternal instincts.
When we talk about the Amber cow family, this is the matriarch. She is still in the herd at age 14!

We had bitter cold in January but an otherwise mild winter. What a difference a year makes!
