TERMS & CONDITIONS
Sale terms and conditions will be the same as those that are recommended by the American Gelbvieh Association. Every precaution will be exercised for the safety and welfare of those attending the sale. However, all persons attending the sale do so at their own risk. Lazy TV Ranch assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents which may occur.
Cattle will be eligible for interstate shipment with all the necessary health papers furnished. Bulls selling outside the country may need to have further testing coordinated after the sale. We practice a Zoetis calfhood vaccination program. Dams of all the bulls in the sale have tested negative for Johne’s disease on a bi-annual basis.
All of the bulls have had a breeding soundness evaluation (including semen test) prior to the sale. We recommend retesting the bulls at turnout, but all the bulls selling passed a semen test on Feb. 10.
Bulls will be kept free of charge, in lieu of free shipping, at the buyer’s risk for 30 days. We recommend purchasing mortality insurance if they are left for us to deliver.
Volume discounts are available on purchases of 5 or more bulls to a single party: 5% on 5 bulls, 6% on 6 bulls, 7% on 7 bulls, etc. up to 10% on 10 or more bulls.
Unless bull is designated as unregistered, registration papers on all bulls will be automatically transferred.
Cattle are trucked free anywhere in the continental U.S. or the nearest Canadian Port of Entry when a total of $60,000 is spent by one buyer. If you spend less than $60,000, we guarantee the trucking cost will not exceed $400/head anywhere in the continental U.S. The bulls are trucked at no charge for the first 250 miles.
Option 1 - If you haul your own bull home sale day (or within 3-4 days of the sale), deduct $100 per bull.
Option 2 - We will deliver your bull within the next 4-5 weeks.
Option 3 - We will feed your bull at your risk until May 1 at which time you will will need to pick him up.
A complimentary lunch will be served starting at 11:30 am.
Blue Reef Marketing update at 12:30 pm. Sale begins at 1 pm Sale order: 1-23, 102-222, 24-100 March 3, 2025
Bulls are guaranteed for everything (death, injury, dissatisfaction) for the first breeding season. If not satisfied, the purchase price minus $2500 will go towards credit in a future sale. For example, a $7500 bull - $2500 = $5000 credit on a future sale. Bulls will be 100% fertility guaranteed the first year. In addition, we guarantee the feet (not for foot rot, but for long toes that make the bull unsound) for three years. Year 1 - 100% of purchase price - minus $2500; 2nd breeding season - 66% of purchase price minus salvage value; Third breeding season - 33% minus salvage value will be given in credit for a future sale.
In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price of the bull.
Should you decide to buy mortality insurance, we will partner with you and pay 50% of the premium. Lashea Bickel will have info available sale day or contact her:
We are retaining in herd semen use for us and our cooperator herds, and certificates on all bulls selling in the sale. 100% semen interest and full possession/salvage value sells on all bulls unless otherwise noted.
Thank you for taking the time to look over our offering! We would love to personally show you the bulls and their mothers any time! This past year has rewarded us with good grass, average crops and a great set of bulls! This set is sired by industry leading sires, and it shows with better performance on the front end and even better calving-ease for those wanting to breed heifers to capitalize on the strong cattle market.
The feeder calf sales are the best we’ve ever experienced! The heifer retention rate is still low so we should have several years ahead of good prices. This year we have partnered with Blue Reef marketing to give you a quick update on the markets. I would encourage you to sign up for their market updates and use Livestock Risk Protection contracts to protect these record profits. Our number one goal is to have the most profitable cattlemen in the industry as customers and we feel Blue Reef is a company that can help you achieve that.
The biggest investment we have made in your profitability has been our GrowSafe feed efficiency system. This is really starting to show extra profitability through the steers we’ve been feeding and the seedstock we are testing. Feed costs are your biggest expense, and we are continually working to lower that and maintain or increase performance. Remember after 15 years and 2000+ test results even our lower efficiency bulls are still above most other ranches. Buy seedstock that work for you and your bottom line!
This year we have a larger group of SimAngus bulls that I think you will appreciate for their length and calving ease. The Angus bulls have a couple real headliner performance bulls and then a nice group of calving-ease bulls. The Balancers have the big performance bulls you’ve come to expect coupled with more carcass and efficiency than ever before! All our cows are run much like yours with a limited breeding period and no second chances — this has led to our herd moving to the top of the Breed for Dam of Merit cows with the most of any breeder in the nation and the highest in herd percentage!
Gina and Jana have once again done a great job mating, calving and presenting this set of bulls. Call either of them with any questions about the mother cows and if you have questions on the Angus cows and low percentage black balancers call Dustin, our north ranch manager.
The bulls will sell nearly in catalog order with a tentative sale order including lots 1-23 selling followed by lots 102-222 and finishing with lots 24-100.
We hope you can come view the bulls sale day or any time prior. We are always excited to show the bulls and their mothers. If you aren’t able to attend, make sure to watch on DVAuction where videos of each individual bull will be posted. Ultrasound data should be available about 1 week prior to the sale.
Vaughn
& Gina Goetz
In an effort to offer our customers even more selection opportunities, we are including a few of the best from North Fork Gelbvieh Ranch again this year. The bulls joined our own at weaning time and have been managed, fed and handled the same as ours. Our satisfaction guarantee will stand behind the bulls the same as our own.
For more info on their lots, please give them a call.

Ken Thorstenson Memorial Scholarship
The family of Ken Thorstenson established this scholarship in loving memory of a man who loved family, farming and raising cattle. Ken was a generous supporter of youth, junior Gelbvieh associations, and 4-H. He had a heart for those who were less fortunate, and those not necessarily “straight A” students. This scholarship reflects the sentiments held by Ken.
We recently decided to open this scholarship up to students outside of Selby Area School. Two $1000 scholarships are available to graduating seniors who are pursuing a minimum of an associate’s degree at a college, university or technical institute. Preference will be given to students with financial need who have declared a major area in an agriculture-related field. A complete application is posted at www.BalancerBulls.com and is due April 15.
Maternal Traits Matter...
In 2024, Lazy TV Ranch ranked first in the Gelbvieh Breed for Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction. A total of 17 Dams of Distinction and 118 Dams of Merit were part of their total herd.
Lazy TV Ranch also led the nation in this honor in 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2019.
Only 5% of the Gelbvieh cows assessed in 2024 qualified for the elite dam honor.
An impressive 24% of Lazy TV Ranch females earned the distinction!
The Dam of Merit honor recognizes cows that meet strict selection criteria including early puberty and conception, regular calving intervals and above average weaning weights on at least three calves. The Dam of Distinction award recognizes cows that meet the same high standards, in addition to exhibiting superior, long-term productivity with at least eight calves.

EPDs
EPDs ranked in the top 35% of the breed are shaded in blue.
Expected Progeny Difference - expected pounds above or below the breed average for birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), yearling weight (YW), (Milk), inches for ribeye (REA) and marbling (Mb). Calving Ease Direct/CE (CED/CE) projects the % of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when used in heifers. A higher number is favorable for calving ease. Feeder Profit Index (FPI) is an economic selection index used by the Gelbvieh association designed to aid producers in selecting sires whose progeny will perform in the feedlot and are sold on grade and yield. Efficiency Product Index (EPI) is a selection index developed to aid in the selection of more feed efficient cattle that still have acceptable amounts of gain. (Claw) is expressed in units of claw-set scoore, with a lower EPD being more favorable. (ANG) Angle idicates food angle and a sire with a lower value is more likely to produce offspring with a better foot angle, closer to the desired 45 degrees. Currently 0.5 is the breed average for fooot angle and claw set EPDs. Animals with less than 0.5 can be considered breed improvers.
All-Purpose Index (API), expresses Terminal Index in net dollars returned per cow exposed. (TI) includes growth and carcass information of progeny of Simmental Bulls mated to Angus cows. Dollar Beef ($B) is used by the Angus association as an index value expressed in dollars per head and is the expected average difference in future progeny for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
Weaned Calf Value ($W) is the expected difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit which includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in BW, weaning direct grow, maternal milk and mature cow size. Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) an index to predict profitability differences from coneption to weaning assuming individuals retain their own replacement females. Combined Value ($C) combines the $M and $B values to characterize profitablity differences.
We only include the major EPDs due to space, but full EPDs are available by contacting us or by doing a search on the AGA
website, Gelbvieh.org, Angus website, Angus.org/animal/EPDPedSearch.aspx. or the Simmental website at Simmental.org
Dam’s Progeny WWR
The number of calves the dam has weaned and their avg adj. weaning weight ratio.
BW - Actual Birth weight
WW - Adj. weaning weight and ratio
YW - Adj. yearling weight and yearling weight ratio
FS - Frame Score, adjusted at yearling
SC - Scrotal Circumference adjusted to 365 days
Breed - BA (Balancer) PB (Purebred Gelbvieh) and the number following either abbreviation is the % Gelbvieh in the animal.
Carcass Ultrasound measurements will be available sale day.
Feed Efficiency Data
Intake: Daily lbs. of dry matter intake
RFI: Residual Feed Intake is an in herd index. A negative number indicates less feed consumes while on test. See a more detailed explanation on the inside back cover. Bulls with only Intake data had a 30-day test. If they have no information, they were excluded due to extremely low intakes. GRP - denotes which test group the animal was in.
Genomic Enhanced EPDs
GE-EPDs combine pedigree, individual performance and genomic information to save time and money, reduce risk and accelerate rate of genetic progress by providing more accurate EPDS on bulls and females two to four years sooner. The suite of 24 genomic trait predictions provides the equivalent of between one and 20 progeny. Bulls with these logos beside the EPD info have had the test.
We upgraded our GrowSafe feed-monitoring system in 2023 to include the GrowSafe Beef System (Pictured left). This technology continually monitors the weight and the daily water consumption of the bulls on test. This additional data shortens the testing period and also increases the data accuracy.
We didn’t get the test results on the Angus bulls in the catalog as they are still on test. The info will be available on sale day.
With feed and pasture rent prices constantly rising, the ability to produce 10-15% more beef with the same resources is more important than ever. Since adding the system 15 years ago, we have increased our cowherd’s feed efficiency from 5-10% by identifying good RFI sires and expanding their influence on our ranch.
Take advantage of our investment and put GrowSafe data to work on your ranch!
Understanding Feed Efficiency and Residual Feed Intake
Feed is a major expense for cattle producers, second only to fixed costs. With 60-plus percent of the total feed cost used for maintenance in breeding cows, improving feed efficiency can have a big economic impact. A 5% improvement in feed efficiency could have an economic effect four times greater than a 5% improvement in ADG. Research over 20 years ago demonstrated that a 10% improvement in efficiency resulted in 43% improvement in profit!
What is residual Feed Intake? Residual Feed Intake (RFI) is defined as the difference between an animal’s actual feed intake and its expected feed requirements for maintenance and growth. RFI is the variation in feed intake that remains after the requirements for maintenance and growth have been met.
RFI is calclulated as the actual intake of the animal minus its expected intake. A negative RFI number of 2 (-2) would mean the animal consumed 2 lbs. less feed per day than the average of the group it was tested with (its contemporary group). Likewise, a positive 2 RFI value (+2) would mean that the animal consumed 2 lbs. more feed than the average animal did in the test group.
Efficient animals eat less than expected and have a negative or low RFI, while inefficient animals eat more than expected and have a positive or high RFI. Just like a golf score, you’re looking for the lowest number or the animals with negative RFI numbers.
How is Feed Efficiency Measured? The data required to measure RFI are individual animal intake, ADG and average on-test metabolic body weight. Animals are measured in a GrowSafe equipped station for a period of about 60 days. ADG and average body weight are both computed from body weight data of animals measured during the on-test period. ADG is computed as the change in body weight per day during the intake test period.
A GrowSafe feed intake system electronically monitors the feed bunk each second of the day recording all cattle feeding activity at the bunk. Data records cannot be changed or altered. Good or bad, GrowSafe numbers don’t lie. A GrowSafe System is an advanced data acquisition that: --reads animal and non-animal activity at the bunk every second of the day.
--reads an EID (animal RFID ear tag) every second when an animal is consuming feed.
--identifies when feed is consumed and a tag is not recorded.
--records feed disappearance from the trough load cells every second of the day.
--records substance appearance into the trough (feed, rain, snow).
--uses data auditing software to automatically and continuously to confirm whether the data is valid.
