What a great time to be in the cattle business! It’s fun to see the commercial cattle producers being rewarded with strong cattle prices! Hopefully this trend lasts a while longer!
In 2024, we had more bulls born than heifers, so this year we are offering more than 120 bulls again! There are 44 black Purebred bulls, 43 black SimAngus bulls, 28 red Simmental/SimAngus bulls and 8 Purebred Red Angus in the sale this year. We are proud to offer so many Purebred Simmental bulls to our customers and not all SimAngus! We really love the SimAngus cross, especially the females, but we also know that many of our customers need a Purebred to cross on their own cows. We will always strive to offer both to our customers. The increased fertility, productivity and longevity gained from the SimAngus female is unmatched. We urge all our customers to utilize heterosis in some manner.
As we said last year, we are focused on balance in our herd. You won’t find the extreme top 1% API and TI bulls in our offering, but you will find balanced EPDs with correct structure, good feet, good dispositions and they will come from females with great udders and maternal ability. In past years,
we have also retained ownership of our steers and obtained carcass data that has been submitted to American Simmental to be utilized in the data. We have proved that we can make 90% choice or higher with our genetics. Going forward, this will be more important than ever with the premiums and discounts getting higher.
In the future, we would like to offer our customers the opportunity to market their commercial yearling heifers in our sale! Please contact us if you are interested. We would sell them by video, and they would not be brought to our place for sale day. Plan ahead and let us know if this is something that interests you for next year!

All the performance data is included in this sale catalog. The gains are calculated on a 105-day test period from weaning until 12/27/24. The scrotal measurements were also taken on 12/27/24 and adjusted to a year of age.

The cattle will sell by video on sale day. All the bulls and heifers will be penned next to the sale barn by 9 am on sale day and will stay in those pens throughout the sale.
We will try to deliver the bulls to the buyer’s farm, or we will assist buyers in coordinating loads and make the most economical trucking arrangements possible. All the bred heifers must be picked up on sale day or have trucking arrangements made soon after since they will be close to calving. For assistance with trucking arrangements, contact Erika.
We can keep the bulls at home for no charge until April 1, but we recommend purchasing insurance.

• We guarantee all bulls to be breeders and we reserve the right to test any bull in question as a non-breeder for a reasonable amount of time before making an adjustment. And, if the bull is declared a sound breeder by a competent veterinarian, he will be returned to the buyer. In case an adjustment is required, it will be made with a replacement of equal value to animal in question, credit on purchase of another animal, or return of purchase price.

We have included all the data we can for each animal in this catalog, but we strongly recommend using the EPDs the most. EPDs allow a buyer to compare the animals across the breed. If you look at the actual data of an animal, it only tells you how they compare in that particular herd. By using the EPDs, you can compare them across herds and within herds more accurately.
We’ve formatted our lot boxes to include the percentile ranking for each trait if they rank within the top 50% of the breed. This will make it easier to evaluate each animal.
Please understand the CE EPD is actually heifer calving ease. This number tells you how those bulls will calve on heifers - % unassisted compared to the other bulls on heifers. For example: If Bull A has a CE EPD of 10 and Bull B has a CE EPD of 5, Bull A will have 5% more unassisted births than Bull B when used on heifers. If you are going to use the bull for cows, you do not need to have that number as high.
There are several genomic tests available. The GGP 100K test qualifies the animals for AI sires and donor cows and tests for parentage. The results are incorporated in to the EPDs through the single-step system (BOLT) and increases the accuracy for each trait.
All the bulls and heifers in the offering have been GGP 100K tested and the resulting EPDs are in the catalog. If any bulls will be used in an AI program, they are already qualified as an AI sire.
All the red animals in this sale are non-diluted (DLF). DLF means they are free of the dilution gene. Grey calves will not result from any of these animals when bred to black animals.
OH or Oculocutaneous Hypopigmentation is a cosmetic genetic trait affecting Simmental cattle. It is a recessive trait so it is only possible from the mating of two carriers. It is non-lethal and doesn’t affect performance of the animal, but the animals will have “white-colored” eyes and/or a diluted hair coat. The most popular recent ancestor that is the carrier is PVF-BF BF26 Black Joker. We have tested everything in our herd that could possibly be a carrier and have identified the ones in this sale as either OHF (Free) or OHC (Carrier).
OHC means that animal carries the gene. If mated with other carriers, there is a possibility to see the trait. If not mated to carriers, you will not see the trait, but may pass the carrier gene to some of the progeny.
The Stayability EPD is a very important EPD because we all need the cows to stay in the herd as long as possible to be profitable. But one needs to understand how it is calculated. Stayability EPD measures the length of time a cow stays in the herd from after her first calf until she is 6 years old. If she is culled before 6 years old, it will affect her Stayability EPD, as well as her sire and dam’s. But if an animal is culled prior to having her first calf, the Stayability EPD is not affected. For example, if a whole sire group is culled due to disposition or structure, prior to breeding, it does not influence the Stayability EPD for that sire. The females aren’t considered part of the herd until they have their first calf.
The Stayability EPD is the largest portion of the API Index as female retention is very important to profitability.

The bulls were fed a TMR ration formulated by Tim Clark of Hubbard Feeds. Our ration is formulated on a moderate level of energy that’s appropriate for the genetic type and the northern environment in order to develop bulls for breeding. We worked the bulls up to a 48 Mcal ration and kept them at that level during the test period. Our trace mineral program is designed to improve structural integrity, foot quality and immune function. They are on a high-end supplement program. Our average ADG for the 2025 sale bulls was a 3.5 lbs. on a 98-day test.
All animals in the herd tested negative for BVD. We follow the state’s guidelines for Johne’s Testing and have maintained our Johne’s Status.

Creed was one of the high-selling bulls in our 2023 sale that sold to Quandt Brothers of Oakes, ND. We used him in our AI and ET programs, and we really love his calves! Creed was one of a set of flush brothers by our donor, SRF Miss 940G, who has really made her mark on our herd. Creed’s full sisters are exceptional cows in our herd and some even have bulls in this sale and the dam is one of the most beautiful uddered, structurally sound cows we have. Creed’s full brother, KS Declaration, also has a son in this sale – Lot 8. Declaration sold to Wicks Cattle Company and Beach Cattle Co. in 2023. The Creed sons sell as Lots 1 – 7.

This is the first calf crop by one of our new donors, Jody. She was always a standout in the heifer pen and after seeing her first calf, we moved her into the donor pen. Her mother consistently produces great ones! Jody is a very docile Guardian daughter, has a good udder, good feet, and is an easy fleshing female. The flush by Creed really clicked! There are 5 full flush brothers by her in the sale selling as Lots 1-5 and Jody’s maternal sister sells as Lot 125.

We sold Caymus in our 2023 sale to Wes Leapaldt, Woodworth. We collected semen and sampled him in our AI program for our heifers and highperformance cows. He worked super well! We love the Caymus calves, which isn’t surprising since his granddam is Kayla – who is known for producing the great ones! The Caymus calves still have adequate growth for being a calving ease bull. The calves have thickness and style and are structurally sound with great dispositions. His four sons sell as Lots 61 - 64.

This is our 4th calf crop of Sitz Stellar. They are just so easy to like! They are impressively stout in a stylish made package, sound and fluid moving, stand on a great foot and have excellent dispositions. They have impressive muscle shape and thickness and definitely stand out in the pen! We used Stellar on our heifers and high-performance cows. The daughters in our herd are beautiful and great mothers! Six Stellar sons sell as Lots 65 - 70 and a daughter sells as Lot 143.

Kansas was our pick of the River Creek Farms sale in 2023 as a heifer bull. He was impressive in person as he had thickness and depth and a ton of attractive style. He was only able to be used one year as he injured his shoulder while breeding and never healed fully. He was used on heifers and high-performance cows. Captivate was the high-selling bull at the Rockin H Sale in Minnesota in 2002 for $95,000 to Lazy C Diamond and Bichler Simmentals. This is the 2nd year we used him in our ET program. Last year in our sale, 7 sons averaged $10,000. He carries a very well-balanced EPD profile and has added a lot of length and performance to his calves. The dispositions are excellent. The Captivate sons that sold in the Bichler Simmental Sale this year were also very well-received. Sons sell as lots 88 - 90.

Elsie has a good udder, a super disposition, and great feet and structure. She seems to click with every mating we throw at her! She only had one bull born this year out of her flush to Captivate and he is impressive – Lot 88!
Emery Ranch, Frederick, SD, purchased Bachelor in the 2023 sale. A son of the Elsie cow who also produced the Vanderbilt flush the year before Bachelor – which includes the Tennessee bull that has sons in this sale (Lots 105 – 106). Look to Bachelor to add performance and length with an outcross, red pedigree. He is a large-framed bull with great muscle shape and a good disposition.

D886 has been a tremendous producer in our herd. Every year, her calves top the scales. She’s a powerful cow with a ton of milk, good udder, great feet, wonderful disposition and easy keeping. Her Captivate flush is impressive. She also has a natural calf by Pursuit in the black section this year. Her sons sell as Lots 89 - 90 and Lot 40.
Hypnotic is an outcross pedigree for many in the reds combining Captivate and Bulletproof. There isn’t any Beef Maker anywhere in the pedigree. We used him heavily this past breeding season so we’ll see his first calves in 2025. We are hoping he adds calving ease and still maintains his growth. He looks impressive in person and his EPD profile is extremely balanced. His disposition is excellent and stands on a great foot!

We purchased some from him and used him in our AI program. We used him on heifers and high-performance cows. He calved very well on heifers and the calves still have adequate growth. Baylor sold in our 2020 sale to Ben Stroh of Tappen and we used him in our AI program in the past, but we purchased him back in 2022 and used him in our pastures since then. Baylor’s dam is KS Alivia A977, who is also the dam of KS Outburst and KS Calibrate (the Full Figures owned by TNT Simmentals). The maternal side of this pedigree is very consistent! Baylor adds performance in a moderate birth weight, has an excellent foot, and often puts the dark, cherry red color in his calves. Net Income sold in our 2021 sale to Lazy C Diamond Ranch. He is a guaranteed calving ease bull, but the progeny still have adequate growth for the amount of calving ease! The cattle are super functional, have great feet and wonderful dispositions. The females are beautiful and productive. Progeny has sold well in the Lazy C Diamond program the last couple years as well as our bull sale last year. There are a few heifers in our sale by him this year.

We have focused our Red Angus program around calving ease and carcass traits, but we are selective on udder quality, disposition and feet as well. We have 8 bulls and 4 bred heifers in the offering this year. The Red Angus are registered with the American Simmental Association and can be registered with the Red Angus Association of America upon request.
PUREBRED RED ANGUS
Admiral was our selection of the Twedt Red Angus sale in 2021 for $27,000. We were so impressed with his feet when we saw him! He had an excellent depth of heel and hoof angle which is getting harder to find it seems. We used him each year on heifers and all the Red Angus cows as clean-up as well as some high-performance Simmental cows to make 1/2 SimAngus. He’s in the top 30% for BW, yet also in the top 3% & 15% for growth and adds a tremendous amount of muscle to his calves! Adding in his great foot quality, he is an asset to the Red Angus breed. We sold him to Westphal Red Angus at the end of the breeding season in 2023. They have used him in their AI program and now have him in their pasture as well. Look for more progeny in the future in their program and in the Twedt Red Angus program! We will continue to use him in our AI program.

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing in what units they are expressed. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, sire A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more weaning weight than sire B. If calving ease was the trait, sire A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if sire B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect sire A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight at 475 days.
Docility (DOC): Percent of offspring receiving a disposition score of 1 (docile).
Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
Marbling (MRB): Carcass marbling score at 475 days.
Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of carcass ribeye at 475 days.
Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at six years of age.
Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See TI for more details.)
Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a rib-eye steak.
Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
Yield Grade (YG): Carcass yield grade score at 475 days.
$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide pieces of the economic puzzle. This is where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on integrated commercial production. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sires for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you are keeping replacements use API, if not, use TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed.
