It’s that time of year again when the temperatures start to cool, the trees start turning shades of fall colors, and Niobrara Red Angus assembles an offering of Red Angus females that are at the forefront of progress within the Red Angus breed. If you thought last year was a fun set of cows and breds to evaluate, you haven’t seen anything yet! The caliber of females from top to bottom in this year’s offering is incredible. Couple that with carrying pregnancies from some of the most influential bulls in the business, and I can’t possibly get any more excited about the opportunities that are to come.
Anything Jeff and Tami Keller do, they do to the highest degree. They desired to become the best within a breed of cattle they fell in love with almost a decade ago, and with their perseverance, patience, and determination, I truly believe their herd sits among the top of the breed in North America. The passion and dedication NIO has to make progress within the Red Angus breed is unwavering. Each spring brings a new calf crop, and we have been incredibly fortunate over the past few years to see forward momentum every single time. Jake and I have worked hard to do our jobs as a Farm Manager & Marketing Manager to help keep Niobrara Red Angus headed in a positive direction. To be honest, it’s been fun as hell to watch our dedicated efforts translate into success for the Keller Family & Niobrara Red Angus itself.
The first Red, Redefined Sale was held in 2020 in an online format, where a group of our best heifer calves were marketed. Since its inception, we’ve had in mind to utilize this as our production sale; an in person, live auction at the ranch in Niobrara, marketing the female seedstock of our operation. It’s been a blast recalling all of the information we’ve gathered on these cows throughout the years. There is truly something for everyone, and the level of honest, phenotypic quality in this group of Red Angus females will likely go unparalleled this fall.

Jeff Tami Keller, OWNERS of Niobrara Red Angus, were born and raised in Niobrara, Nebraska, both graduating from Niobrara High. Together, they are blessed to have three incredible sons: Sam, Jack, &; Ben. Tami (Leader) Keller’s family made their living as Angus breeders in the area, originating with her grandfather, John Leader. Aspiring to have a herd of their own, they chose Red Angus cattle and enjoy the opportunity Niobrara Red Angus gives their sons to be more involved in agriculture..
Jacob Bathke, RANCH MANAGER, resides and oversees Niobrara Red Angus with his wife, Madison. He manages and oversees the daily operations of the ranch and is responsible for the wellbeing of the cattle. Jacob graduated college with a degree in agronomy, but he couldn’t leave his passion for cattle behind. Jacob is grateful for the opportunity to work with the Keller Family and their high-quality cattle. Even though most of his days are spent with cattle, he says what he loves most about his job are the people. He would also like to acknowledge and thank his family and friends who help him throughout the year.
Meg Penrod, OFFICE MANAGER, is a lifelong resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. Meg received her BFA from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and spent 12 years working in interior design. In 2019, Meg and her husband, Tanner, adopted their oldest daughter, Sloan, and two years later, they had a welcomed surprise when their second daughter Scarlett came along! Meg has spent the last several years at home raising their girls, but her love for working with people and passion for animals drew her to work for Niobrara Red Angus.
Garrett
Knebel, MARKETING MANAGER, resides in Bozeman, MT. There he owns and operates Harmony Hill, a progressive Red Angus operation focused on seedstock for the commercial cow-calf operator. With a degree from Oklahoma State University, Garrett’s main responsibilities for Niobrara Red Angus include marketing, consulting, breeding, and seedstock selection. In his spare time, he travels the country visiting with fellow Red Angus breeders and judging livestock shows.

In the simplest of description, our goal is to produce the most problem free, productive, profitable Red Angus genetics in the United States. After years of genetic selection and acquisition, having set the paper aside and sorting them based on their phenotypical strengths that allow them to remain profitable in herd, Niobrara Red Angus has incorporated some of the breed’s most elite genotypic cattle and traits, while not sacrificing the foundational basics of long-term, cow herd sustainability.
Cattle producers sell their feeder and slaughter cattle based on what they weigh. When investing in seedstock, it is important to be provided with actual performance data rather than only computer-generated projections that change weekly, can fluctuate dramatically and are only as relevant as the accuracy values behind them. EPDs are a tool for selection, and there are many different tools that should be utilized in making these decisions. Real breeding progress requires breeding beyond the numbers for realworld production traits. Selections and matings based on feet, udders, fertility, and pounds; that has created consistency, progress, and lessened the cost of mistakes.

When I saw 196G hit the picture pen, I wondered if Jake had lost his marbles. But… Jake lost his marbles a long time ago at Jimmy Dean’s… so I was less surprised. Haha. All jokes aside, U2 Larkaba 196G was a less intentional purchase from the U2 Dispersal. However, she’s proven to be an incredible asset and producer in the Niobrara program. I can clearly recall all three of her calves in my mind, having an upper echelon look of quality and balance. I’ve learned over time, scouring offerings of cattle looking for the most phenotypically flawless or overwhelming doesn’t always work out. As most are aware, we chose to support the Red Angus Stakeholders Foundation this year by offering our “Pick of the Herd” at the National Convention in Lincoln, Nebraska. This comes by way of offering the Pick of our Bred Heifers. It’s worth noting, we have not sold any of our replacement heifers over the past year, and you are truly getting access to the best Niobrara has to offer. It’s a struggle, annually, to choose which bred heifers we want to highlight the Redefined offering. However, Jake & I both have this heifer marked at the top of our lists, and it’s easy to see why. After she left the picture pen, I looked at Jake and made mention that this bred heifer could be haltered and shown at the highest level, and I’d put her up against any that I’ve seen being exhibited this year. The darkest shade of red, this heifer is nearly flawless phenotypically. Balanced, sound, cowy and bold, it pains me to see this one leave the program. She’s a John Wick; enough said.

Health
The health of the herd is excellent. We guarantee that all sale cattle will ship to any state or Canadian province. All females are officially calfhood vaccinated. All cattle are on a complete pre-conditioning and herd health program.

Terms
Niobrara Red Angus reserves the right to two future flushes on any females selling at our expense and the buyer’s convenience.
Terms of the sale are cash unless other arrangements have been made before the sale with Niobrara Red Angus. Every animal will be sold to the highest bidder with the auctioneer settling disputes.
Announcements from the auction block shall take precedence over the sale catalog and/or any additional printed information regarding animal(s) sold.
A transferred certificate of registry will be furnished to the Buyer for each animal. It is your responsibility to give Niobrara Red Angus the appropriate transfer information at the checkout counter, in order for the transfer to be executed.
All cattle are the buyer’s property as soon as sold and will be cared for, for a reasonable length of time at the buyer’s risk. Neither Niobrara Red Angus nor any person connected to this sale assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.
Guarantee
Every animal in this sale is free from disease or defect to the best of our knowledge or they will be identified.
All animals are guaranteed breeders, with the exception of:
i) Calves less than 12 months of age.
ii) Animals shown by purchaser after the sale that were:
a. transported and shown while trying to maintain a pregnancy, during heat or unnecessary stress.
b. only artificially inseminated, and never exposed to a bull with a recent BSE.
c. fed to an extreme level of obesity or kept too thin for reproductive health.
d. fed unnecessary supplements, or victim to illegal practices altering their conformation.
iii) Females that are to be used, or attempted to be used, in an embryo transfer program, after the date of sale.
iv) Animals who suffer injury and disease following the sale.
v) Gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the Buyer.
‘Safe in Calf’ Females have been examined by a competent veterinarian and are so guaranteed to be in safe in calf. No further fertility guarantee post calving is available.
Cows with calves at side are presumed to be breeders with no further fertility guarantee.
If those animals that meet this guarantee fail to breed after a period of six months, it may be returned to the seller in good condition and in compliance with Nebraska Health Regulations. The seller reserves the right to try the said animal for six months and if it proves to be a nonbreeder, either an animal of comparable rank will be substitute, or a credit will be given on a future sale on an animal for animal basis. Those credits are to be used within one calendar year from when the credit is offered. No cash refunds will be dispersed.
Livestock Mortality & Theft Insurance
It’s nearly impossible to have livestock without some deadstock. Unfortunately, our businesses trade a live product that can expire at any given moment, from a never-ending list of causes. It is important that your worthy investment is protected with an Annual Full Mortality & Theft Coverage policy. It is your duty as a purchaser of cattle in this sale to protect your investment from the wide array of unfortunate circumstances that come with the responsibility of owning livestock. We do not offer refunds if such unfortunate events occur. Either your policy does its job, or we will work with you to receive another animal of comparable value, so long as it still meets the criteria outlined in our Terms and Conditions. Please reference the Guarantee section of these Terms & Conditions.

Half Interest
On a few select lots we are offering half interest only. The buyer will receive all the show rights and will be responsible for all the show expenses related to such exhibitions. Whomever maintains possession of the animal after their show career, will receive the female’s natural calves in order to justify the female’s annual operating costs. Therefore, the other owner is not to be billed for half of the female’s operating costs. With respect to embryo production, the buyer and Niobrara Red Angus will rotate back and forth on who receives which flush/IVF opportunity; the first going to the buyer of said female. It is each party’s financial responsibility to pay for their flush entirely when it is their turn. All embryos from those flushes go to the owner flushing at that time, unless otherwise agreed upon before the flush/IVF occurs. Whomever is in possession of said female is required to make the female available for a flush or IVF in between each calving cycle. For additional questions, please contact Garrett Knebel.
Delivery TERMS
Niobrara Red Angus is offering Free Delivery for purchases made from the 2024 Red, Redefined Sale. Deliveries to U.S. destinations will begin after the sale at our earliest convenience. All deliveries will be organized to central points within the state. This may require buyers to meet our drivers at nearby nearby locations. Purchases from Mexico will be delivered to Clayton, NM, free of charge. Purchases from Canada will be delivered to Billings, MT, free of charge. We will assist in health or export requirements. Please call for details. We will assist in completing testing and arrange for shipping. But all costs incurred to import/export, as well as freight, will be the responsibility of the buyer. Please call for details. If you are not ready to receive your animals when we plan to deliver to your area, or if it is after Nov. 1st, feeding arrangements are available for a charge of $3.50 per day, per animal. Please coordinate these feeding arrangements after the sale.
