It is with great pleasure that all of us here at Rishel Angus welcome all of you to the ranch for our 33rd Annual Bull Sale. To all of you that are past customers, we want to say “Thank You.” We value your support and friendship. We also extend an invitation to those of you who have not been to our ranch. This past year has proved to be a good time to be in the cattle business. We have been thrilled to receive many reports from many of you about how well your calves sold or how they excelled in the feedlot and on the rail. We have always viewed our relationship with our customers as a “partnership” and we are not successful unless you reap the benefits and realize the added-value of superior genetics. We have not lost sight of the fact that “added-value” is not just pay weight or carcass merit, but also includes the many economic benefits of superior reproduction, quality udders and disposition in the cow herd. The discussion of “added-value” leads me to a few things that we have added to our program this year in hopes of providing you with a superior genetic resource and potentially greater return to your operation. This year we have genomic-tested every bull in the offering through the GeneSeek program, and the American Angus Association has incorporated this genomic information into the EPD’s to create a bit more accuracy into what we now call “Genomic-Enhanced EPD’s.” By the way, we were extremely pleased with the results of this effort and the verification of our past efforts of balancing many traits of economic value in our program. We are also pleased to introduce you to another program called “Top Dollar Angus” founded and owned by Tom Brink. This is an opportunity for those of you that don’t retain ownership to garner a premium for your feeder cattle when sired by Angus bulls with superior EPD’s and Dollar Values. Retained Interest in Bulls: Rishel Angus and

Hoffman Ranch retain 1/2 revenue sharing semen interest in all bulls selling. The buyer has full possession and 100% of the salvage value of the bull. The reason for retaining this semen interest is that many of these bulls have the individual performance, pedigree, EPDs and carcass merit to develop into elite sires. However, the truly superior sires we would like to advance our programs and provide a better product for our customers will not be identified until their progeny records increase their predictability. Should we want semen on any bull selling in the sale, semen for our use would be collected in the off-breeding season at your convenience and at our expense. If you decide to collect semen for your account, the semen is 100% yours. The number of bulls on which a high volume of semen is sold is relatively small, but in the event semen sales develop on any bull, Rishel Angus or Hoffman Ranch and the owner will share equally in those revenues and expenses. If the buyer sells or leases any of his/her ownership in a bull, Rishel Angus or Hoffman Ranch retains its revenue sharing semen interest in the bull. 31

Genomic Enhanced Expected Progeny Differences - GE-EPD's The most comprehensive look at an animals genetic merit. DNA testing provides the opportunity to characterize animals at a younger age, which reduces the risk involved in using a young animal if you are seeking to make directional change in a trait. It doesn't totally take away the risks, but it lessens the risk in using an animal that's too young to be progeny tested. Calculating traditional EPD's involves combining (1) pedigree information (2) performance information on the individual of interest and (3) progeny performance. The only difference between traditional EPD's and GE-EDP's is the addition of genomic testing as a fourth source of information. The incorporation of pedigree, individual performance and progeny performance into EPD's happen in a sequence over time as that data is gathered. Information from genomic testing can happen at any time, even on a baby calf. Genomic testing does not replace all other sources of genetic information. It is an additional tool that combines pedigree, individual performance and progeny performance to increase the accuracies of the EPD's; therefore the term - "Genomic-Enhanced EPD's."

GeneSeek is an industry leader in analyzing the genomic makeup of an animal for the presence of genetic markers that enhance that individual’s ability to produce progeny with increased economic merit. The GeneSeek Genomic Profiler (GGP) provides genetic information that is incorporated into EPD’s by the American Angus Association. The GGP HD-80K enhanced EPD’s increase the accuracies of EPD’s on young bulls so seedstock and commercial producers can fine tune their bull and replacement heifer selection. No matter your goal, whether you are addressing maternal traits and calving ease, or improving the performance and carcass composition of your feeder cattle, the GGP HD-80K GE-EPD’s give you the tools you need to progress on your goals.

Value Added Marketing Opportunities Rishel Angus Bulls are designed to help you achieve the premiums you can capture from these leading industry programs. Angus Source– Verify your Angus-sired calves with AngusSource or AngusSource Genetics. Both of these trusted programs offer the most cost-effective, genetic verification in the beef industry. Both programs document group age, source and a minimum of 50 percent Angus genetics, while incorporating valuable information from the American Angus Association database. To be eligible, calves must be sired by registered Angus bulls, born on the ranch of origin, and have calving or breeding records to document group age. Top Dollar Angus– Top Dollar Angus is a genetic certification and marketing company focused exclusively on the best Angus-influenced feeder cattle/calves in the industry. To qualify, feeder cattle/calves must contain two or more generations of Angus genetics, with growth and carcass traits in the top 25% of the breed. This new program works by certifying calf crops that meet program requirements on the farm or ranch, enabling these cattle to be marketed using the Top Dollar Angus brand name and logo. Top Dollar Angus feeder cattle are eligible to receive a $50 per head premium (sometimes more) above the average market price when sold to partner feedyards. One group of Top Dollar Angus steer calves sold recently on Superior Video Auction for $67 per head above the average market price for their weight and location. US Premium Beef– In 2014, U.S. Premium Beef (USPB) purchased more than 11.6

million head of cattle from producers. The average premium above the cash market in 2014 was $48.28 per head, and the top 25% premium was $89.18. In 2014, producers who marketed cattle through our USPB earned more than $358 million in premiums above the cash market. USPB purchases fed cattle on a value-based system that rewards high quality (high marbling) carcasses. Producers who retain ownership should strongly consider USPB as an option for marketing their fed cattle. Lots 96, 97 & 98 Three flush brothers sired by “Connealy Confidence,” the bull referred to in the Select Sires stud as the calving ease specialist. He is a bull that also excels in rib eye and %YG. The donor dam of these bulls is a daughter of one of the most powerful carcass bulls of all time, B/R Ambush 28. He is among the highest $B sires of the breed. This cow’s first calf was a daughter of “High Prime 4037” that is retained. She was immediately put into our donor program and produced the embryos for these “Confidence” calves. We flushed her again to “Comrade” and have six calves on the ground this spring. She immediately bred back and produced a 2/11/15 natural heifer calf by B/R Destination 928-630. Her dam has had all heifers, including two full sisters to the mother of this bull. Rishel Angus Tops 2010-2011 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Research and Education’s Retail Value Steer Challenge

In the largest contest in the 12 year history of the RVSC, a purebred Angus steer from Rishel Angus garnered the No. 1 carcass value of the 142 entries. He was a son of B/R New Day 454. His dam was sired by B/R Future Direction 620 and his grand-dam was sired by B/R Ambush 28. This powerful steer gained 4.41 lb./day for the 181 days on feed, giving him a final weight of 1,461 lb. His hot carcass wt. of 946 lb. yielded a dressing percent of 64.8%. Even more impressive was his combination of .51 fat cover with a 16.48 sq. in. rib eye and his marbling score of SLAB 30 (slightly abundant). His final USDA Quality Grade and Yield Grade was PRIME - Yield Grade 1. This was only the third steer in the history of the “Challenge” to grade PRIME and all three were entries from Rishel Angus. The total “Retail Value” of this carcass on the late May 2011 market with a minimal Choice/Select spread was $1,843.56. The next closest value was $1,764.38 and only three steers of the 142 entries were over $1,700 in carcass value.

Rishel-Maassen Steer Excels in 2009-2010 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Research and Education Foundation Retail Value Steer Challenge

With the largest number of steers in the history of the “Challenge,” a son of B/R Destination 727-928 finished 2nd out of 124 entries. This spring-born calf weighed on test 11/24/09 at 590 lb. and weighed off test 5/20/10 at 1,525 lb. with a 5.395 ADG for 177 days. This outstanding gain, through some of the worst winter and spring feeding conditions in recent memory, resulted in a carcass weight of 957 lb. that scored an MD 30 for marbling with a final Quality Grade of CHOICE and CAB. His total carcass value was a whopping $1,535.70.

Rishel Angus Wins 2007-2008 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Research and Education Foundation Retail Value Steer Challenge

A purebred Angus steer sired by B/R Destination 727-928 out of a daughter of the Sire Alliance Winner B/R New Design 323-9150 topped the 60 entries in the field. His final average daily gain of 5.02 lb./day for 177 days ranked fourth in a field of predominately crossbred cattle. His .24 inch back fat and 16.6 sq. in. rib eye gave him a final calculated Yield Grade of 2.2, a percent box yield of 71.8% and a carcass value ranking of sixth out of the 60 steers. In addition, he graded PRIME and was the only PRIME in the contest - just the second time in 10 years a PRIME was recorded, with other being the B/R entry in 2004-2005. This steer won the overall No. 1 ranking with a final gain in carcass value of $727.62 for the 177 days and a total final carcass retail value of $1,562.52.

Maassen Bros. Wins 2005-2006 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Research and Education Foundation Retail Value Steer Challenge

A son of B/R Destination 727-928 gained 4.75 lb./day for 158 days on feed, beating a field of 70 steers. His final 4% shrink weight of 1,258 lb. and hot carcass weight of 821 lb. yielded a phenomenal dressing percent of 65.3%. His .44 fat cover combined with a 14.1 sq. in. rib eye gave him a final Yield Grade of 2.51. He graded average Choice and achieved a final carcass retail value of $1,338.16. He had a gain in retail value of $0.61 for every day on feed, for a total gain in value of $570.96 and the first-place ranking of the contest. Another son of B/R Destination 727-928 from Rishel Angus placed 6th out of the 70 steers in this year’s competition. With a final 4% shrink weight of 1,363 lb. and hot carcass weight of 881 lb., he had a dressing percent of 64.6%. One of only four steers to grade CHOICE+ in the competition, he had a gain of $3.20 for every day on feed and a total gain in retail value of $506.03.

Purebred Angus Steer from Rishel Angus Sweeps First-Place in 2004-2005 Nebraska Cattlemen’s Research and Education Foundation Retail Value Steer Challenge

A son of “Future Direction” out of a daughter of B/R New Perspective 079, the $12,000 second high-selling bull in 2001, dominated the field of predominantly crossbred entries. With a birth date of Feb. 27, this 14½-month-old calf had a final 4% shrink weight of 1,419 lb. and a carcass weight of 967 lb. Gaining 4.47 lb./day at 113 days on feed, he continued to perform at a high level with 3.97 ADG for the 176 day feeding period. With .52 fat cover and a 13.7 sq. in. rib eye, he had a calculated Yield Grade of 3.5. His marbling score of 7.6 made him the only PRIME carcass in the event. His final carcass retail value was an astounding $1,565.21 or $186.58 more than his nearest competition. His outstanding carcass merit equated to a gain in retail value of $4.20 for each of the 176 days on feed or gain in retail value of $738.41. His nearest competition was $3.18 gain in retail value per day on feed.
